SEC's shipping charges are the worst I've experienced in the US... $77.85 for 7 bottles.

Wine people can be fussy. There, I said it. What makes Sec Wines so amazing is that 1) Eric is a graceful curator whether you're in the know or just know enough to be dangerous (and annoying); 2) the service is fantastic, always responsive; 3) the selection of wines and regions can satisfy a geek or a neophyte; and 4) the prices are among the best anywhere. (More than once, I've passed on my wine club purchases since I can wait and get them from Sec at a discount.) While I have my own New World wine habits and favorite wineries, I have asked Eric to help guide purchases including Italian whites, grower Champagnes, and Piedmont reds. His selections gave me new insights and experiences that only a pro could offer, again with pricing that is invariably fair. Last night, for Mrs. Creosote's birthday, we opened a lovely bottle of Eric Rodez' rose champagne, something that Eric Pottmeyer turned us onto years ago. Guess my previous rating of 2013 didn't make the move when Sec Wines moved. Oh well, a perfect excuse for me to provide an update. I place orders typically 2 or 3 times a year with Sec Wines, depending upon releases and any gaps in my cellar. As a result, I now have favorite Pacific Northwest wineries and winemakers. Eric's prompt service, his willingness to answer questions and his wine expertise and recommendations are remarkable. Over the years I've broadened my wine horizons and palate through purchases made from Sec Wines; they have enabled me to move beyond my Northern California bias toward Cabernet-based wines. I still like them, but a great Oregon Pinot Noir, French Champagne or reasonably priced Bourgogne Rouge or Blanc can be the perfect change of pace. Eric is able to secure many hard-to-find gems, and I've learned to act quickly when his monthly newsletter states "extremely limited!" In sum? Great service, great selection and great wine. Sec Wines is a hidden gem! I've ordered wine from them for the past 5+ years and have never been disappointed. The monthly wine letter with highlighted specials is always helpful and the personal attention given is greatly appreciated. What I like most is that Eric knows what I like in a wine and is able to help me chose wines that fit my desires. I can buy wines to put away for special occasions, "day wine", or even call Eric and have him chose wine for a particular meal. When we have celebrations, I order wine ahead of time (it only takes 1-2 days typically to get a larger order!) and always am happy about the product and price! I am sad to report that in all my years, I think Eric is the first malignant soul I've encountered in the wine business. Last evening I ordered six nice bottles from him, with overnight shipping. My wife's phone pinged indicating the charge was approved. Hurray! Today, I get a terse email from Eric saying that he *thought* he remembered my name... Turns out that a year and a half ago, I ordered a case of his wine that I had to cancel the card on, because my card had been stolen. Not a drop of wine was shipped, and fair Eric canceled the order long ago. That was the end of it. Or so I thought. Evidently still butthurt from my long-ago oversight, Eric tells me today that he's not going to honor my recent order. He tells me about this long-forgotten (at least for me) canceled card "incident". (I got the feeling that there are dolls in my likeness in the shop with pins through them.) Nonetheless, I apologized, explained what happened, and try to make good by Eric. Nothing doing, says Eric. So Eric, along with your one star, I also leave you with this advice: Life is too short for you to be some Seinfeldian caricature called The Wine Nazi. Be better. read more

I've ordered from Eric for 10 years. First when I lived in Oregon, and now that I'm in Florida. Top notch all the way! I've never have had an issue and service is impeccable. This shop probably has the best selection of grower champagnes at the best prices I have ever encountered. They have such a killer lineup of hard to find bubbles. Can't speak on anything else since this is my go to spot for champagnes. My only negative is I'm all the way on the east cost in MD and shipping is expensive, but that's not there problem. read more

Do not order from them. I ordered a 1996 Lopez de Heredia blanco gran reserve because the price as good. Turns out there is a reason. The merchant sent me a bottle which was clearly heat damaged. When I sent a picture, he said that I should just push the cork back down. I said no way, that I would send it back. He said that it's my fault for getting it shipped (in November when it wasn't hot) so I disputed the charge with my CC company and sent the bottle back. He got it back and then tried to say that I switched the bottle for one that was damaged. I'm not even sure how one responds to that. Sec wines moved, so did their Yelp location. To follow suit, I'm moving my review to this new Yelp page. Sec Wines is still the best place in the country to buy wine. If you seek unique Italian, French or new world hard to find wines, this is your store! I haven't placed an order for some time (due to 'cellar maximus overflowith' ----no room), but I recommend using this online shop for your wine purchasing above all others in the US! The owner, Eric will truly will special order anything he can get and you will be hard pressed to find better pricing and you certainly won't find better service. Everyone I've referred to his shop have thanked me and continue to shop here year after year. Sec Wines is a class above the rest in the wine industry. Original Review still stands: I am shocked no one has reviewed Sec Wines! Let me be the first to tell you about amazing customer service in the world of wine! If you love wine as I do, you'll do what you can to find your cellar prizes and defenders alike, from all corners of the earth! I have referred many a wine geek friends to Sec Wines and all have been very satisfied. I still have to buy a few wines Eric (the owner) can't source from local pillar and post shops and from Full Pull (online Washington wine source), but Sec is my #1 wine shop for life, where I stock 90-95% of the cellar. The store is set up as an on-line shop, so there is no in-store "inventory" per se and no tastings, all of which keeps costs reasonable. All ordering is easy and done online, email or by phone and you can have your wine delivered or easily pick up at his store front on Broadway. I have been buying wine from Eric for years now. I only wish I had found him sooner. He has saved me a lot of money on my precious vin gems. If he doesn't have something on his website: a simple email or phone call asking him to source a coveted wine is quickly responded to- often with a price that beats all other wine shops in the country. Don't forget to sign up for his monthy emails with specials and interesting info about wines he sourced on recent trips to Piedmont, for example. The customer service Eric provides is exemplary & unmatched. His knowledge base of wine (new and especially old world) is encyclopedia brilliant, while being a true gentleman and humble. He never makes you feel like you are inferior for not knowing about a hot new region or producer. Eric Pottmeyer and Sec Wine have helped me with my Christmas shopping for several years. I do not know much about wine except I know what I like. I place an order for a variety of wines and let him choose. I tell him the number of bottles, specify they be Oregon wines in a certain price range and he picks out a nice variety and I find new wines to enjoy.
