Some of that can be overshadowed a bit by the rather surly woman who works at the desk. I do feel bad for her as I'm sure it's not an easy job to do but it can definitely dampen the experience. Beyond the staff and volunteers, the shelter itself is depressing as hell. The two rows of kennels that face each other in the middle are intimidating to walk down and the dogs really seem to trigger each other, very stressful environment. The building needs a HUGE makeover. Also, It smells awful, even when you first walk in. I understand there are animals there but the whole lobby doesn't need to smell like urine and various other unidentifiable smells. It doesn't even smell that bad where the dogs are contained, why so gross out front? Anyway, I'd give five stars because I love our dogs so much and would def support from them again but had to take off a couple of stars because the building itself and overall mood is quite abysmal. It seemed there have been efforts lately to change that but they've got a loooong road ahead of them.

Then on top of it all - they told me they were not working with me because I was rude. I was never rude and they were perfectly happy to have me coming in and paying them fees - but when I tell them I want my records so I can go somewhere else they decided I was rude and terminated the relationship with me. Will never come here again - their staff do not understand customer service and do not have a desire to make you feel welcome - when they are going to lose the business they cut you off even if that impacts the health of a pet. If you care for your pet - you want a Vet who will put your pet's health above all else and this place just does not seem to have that opinion. I work in healthcare and the joke has always been that the bad healthcare providers value the ABCs (Airway - Billing Method - Can they Pay). This is clearly the opinion of Westside Animal Hospital. And profits before healthcare is never the answer. Horrible - Horrible - Horrible.

We called and they took us right away. We had to make the difficult decision to let her go. The Dr. and staff were amazing with our kitty and with us. Dr. Murphy said a beautiful prayer as our girl said goodbye. They gave us the gift of time to say goodbye and made it as supportive as possible. EVERYONE at the practice was amazing and they didn't really know us. The next day we received a beautiful floral arrangement wishing us warm memories to ease our sadness. This compassion and kindness is rare today - Thank you to Dr. Murphy and Team.

Kara is simply the BEST!…read more Before Kara came to my house I have not heard of at home pet grooming. This is a niche market that I am sure Kara will soon dominate in the Rochester area. Kara is an experienced professional who has been in the pet grooming industry for over 14 years and has recently decided to begin at home pet grooming. How it works - Kara comes to your home with all her supplies and sets up shop right in the comfort of your own kitchen. She has all the professional accessories and gear which is quite impressive. She uses your kitchen sink to bathe your pet and then sets them on her grooming stand to dry them quickly (with her number of professional dryers). She then proceeds to cut your pets hair to the length and style you desire. What is so awesome about her service is you can sit and watch her work so you know your pet is safe. But what is even better is she talks with you the entire time and explains to you what she is doing and why. She is very informative and teaches you many things from information about your pets breed, flea application and overall pet/care information. She is very kind to the pet and they feel very comfortable having her handle them.

Kara is the BEST! I have a very large cat, whom is…read morerelatively difficult to get any sort of cleaning done to (a Norwegian forest cat named Figaro). Every single time, he is given a bath, nails trimmed and given a hair cut PERFECTLY! Kara comes to do at home visits, which makes my life a million times easier, as I don't have to drag my cat down three flights of stairs and into a car, across the city. She simply grooms the cat in the kitchen sink, or whatever large basin/sink you have available. Figaro would rather see Kara 10 times than see the vet once, she is that gentle and loving with him. Kara listens to what each pet wants and makes sure they are comfortable at all times. Somestimes if Fig is a little grumpy, we do not get his belly or tail trimmed, which I appreciate not forcing him to do anything he does not want to partake in. She is a wonderful and amazing person, and I always look forward to our chats while Fig is getting groomed. She has a ton of professional equipment, and uses whatever works best for your pet (ex: The louder blower dryer actually worked better than the quieter one for my cat, but I am sure with others it would be the opposite situation). She is knowledgeable about animals/breeds/etc, and is more than willing to share any information and suggestions. Every once in a while she gives Fig a cute little collar as well. :) Afterwards, Figaro is always so happy and smells AMAZING!
