My husband and I are staying at the Belamar to celebrate our anniversary and decided to give this place a try before leaving given the great reviews. We were not disappointed!!! I ordered the chicken and waffles as there was a small selection of breakfast items. I am so glad I did! The chicken was extra crispy and breading was so tasty! The waffles were topped with plenty of fresh strawberries. My husband ordered the chimichurri steak and eggs and was also blown away. Don't get me started on the Bloody Marys! They are served in a big glass and topped with great garnishes: celery, asparagus, BACON, lime, and olives!!! We asked for it extra spicy and that's exactly what we got! The service was amazing! Saw great reviews on Yelp. I wanted a hole in the wall place with good food. This sounded like the ticket. It's a hotel restaurant, very modest size, good eats. I had the fresh pasta with veggies and chicken. The pasta could have used a pinch of salt and would have benefited from a light sauce. The pork shop was amazing...I was eating it off my friends plate. Ordered 3 desserts and shared. The chocolate ganache pie was good but one bit goes a long way. Only thing we knew before coming here was that they are located inside Belamar hotel. I have never heard about Belamar hotel but thinking it would be something like Montage or London hotel, so when we got there I was little shocked that it wasn't like that at all. When we got to the restaurant, there was nobody to welcome you and you kinda have to seat yourself, at that point, my husband and I started to regret that we even picked this restaurant. However!!! Once we sat down and ordered food, we were pleasantly surprised. They were pretty delicious. Between four of us, we shared spinach salad, boneless chicken wings, calamari, ahi tuna sandwich, Brazilian cut sirloin, and grilled filet mignon with lobster tail. A friend and I visited this restaurant located inside the Belamar hotel a few weeks ago to see about booking a baby shower here. The minute I walked into the dinning room I didn't want to ever have to leave! It's bright, airy, spacious, comfortable, classy, chic, modern yet classic. We met with the restaurant manager and discussed reserving the lounge area near the bar and a few food and dessert options and he was beyond accommodating and willing to work with us to make this event a memorable one. The bartender was also very friendly. The place just gave off good vibes! I love that our guests will be able to valet and enter through the ultra cute hotel lobby area. **Although the baby shower isn't for another 2 weeks and the Elite Yelp event isn't until next week. This restaurant is located in the Belomar Hotel. I came here for happy hour with a group of people. The place was pretty busy. For Happy Hour, I believe it was half off all their Appetizers. I ordered the New Zealand Lamb Chops (grilled) with mint pesto, beet puree & a demi-glaze $14 discounted to $7. And, the Shrimp & Mushroom Risotto $8 discounted to $4. Between the two, the Lamb Chops were definitely better. Although, there were only four pieces. And the meat on it was tiny. It was delicious. I could have had double that order. The sauce it came with was also good. The Risotto was alright. I wish there were more mushrooms in it. 3 stars for the Risotto and 4 stars for the Lamb Chops. Second Story is hidden inside the Belamar Hotel between Sepulveda and Oak St. My friends and I wanted a quiet enough place so that we can catch up with what's been happening with our lives and this was the perfect spot. I'd have to say the service was quite slow but luckily we were not in a hurry to go anywhere else so it was okay that night. The server gave us an amuse buche to start off with. It was pita with hummus and a green olive. Not bad but not something to remember by. One friend and I ordered the fish and shoestring fries. Another friend ordered the Brazilian picanha with rice and the other friend ordered the hanger steak and risotto. My fish was so juicy and the batter was perfect. The fries were good too...crispy and thin just how I like them. The rice that accompanied the Brazilian steak was so buttery and flaky. Really delicious! The sauce for the steak was also flavorful and the steak was perfectly cooked at medium rare. The I didn't try the hanger steak but from what my friend said, it was delicious. A friend and I were in the area and looking for a decent happy hour, I believe I've had this place bookmarked so in we went! Such a fun, tucked away entry from the hustle of Sepulveda Blvd., and free valet... Sweet! Stylish entry, lots of lit angles. Up the stairs and into a decent sized lounge/bar area, it seemed a little dated (could definitely use some new TV's!) yet it was well laid out and tidy. They have a free glass of wine with a check-in and purchase of one entré, beer is fun priced, and they have quite a happy hour menu. I came here for a Girl's Night Out on a Wednesday around 6:00pm for Happy Hour. The Service --- Service was slow. We kept having to look around for our server to order more food, drinks and for the check. The Food --- The food was actually pretty good and they do have a good Happy Hour menu. We had the Caesar Salad which I liked. I mean, it's hard to go wrong with a Caesar Salad. The Sicilian Meatball Sliders which were good as well. They were flavorful but I wish they had more sauce. I'll pass on the Cheese Fondue next time. It was pretty thin and more like a cheese sauce. It came with apples, strawberries (weird right?) and bread. The bread wasn't that good either. The last thing we tried was the First Class Chicken Wings which were buffalo wings and came with a blue cheese sauce. The wings were good. They were fairly large and had good flavor. The Prices --- During Happy Hour, certain foods are 50% off (including all of the ones that I listed). Full prices are $11 for the First Class Chicken Wings, $12 for the Sicilian Meatball Sliders and $8 for the Caesar Salad. $4 drafts, house wines and well drinks during Happy Hour. If you order an entree, you get a free glass of house wine with a Yelp check in! Overall, this place is good for Happy Hour. Hotel restaurants are rarely my cup of tea in California. However, that isn't to say I'm impressed sometimes as with the Second Story Restaurant (at least with their Happy Hour). The Second Story Restaurant had a happy hour everyday from 4-7PM with some daily specials. (Think they had some weekend deals but not completely sure). The happy hour is not too shabby - drinks (like well drinks and certain wines/drafts) are priced at about $4 and some appetizers/entrees are half off. I thought this was pretty awesome given that some of the bigger dinner entrees that are priced at $20-$24 come around $10-$12 in the end like the pancetta wrapped pork tenderloin. Although the actual pork tenderloin was not too bad, the sides that came with it were pretty tasty like the caramel apple and the meal is definitely a good dinner sized portion. It wasn't a mind-blowing dish but solid in taste and texture. Service-wise, you have to seat yourself (there's a bar and table service area) and they may be a little slow. However, I think you just need to get the attention of the service staff and everyone was super friendly including the bartender. I saw a lot of customers that have definitely been to the restaurant before and were super friendly as well with most of the staff. Apparently, if you valet here at the Belamar Hotel (where the restaurant is located - just go into the lobby to the second floor on the stairs), it's free. There's also some neighborhood parking although the streets are a little hilly/confusing so just be aware. The Hotel is right after you hit Rosecrans on your right side so just make that first right and you'll see it. Again, Second Story Restaurant is a surprise. I would rate the experience overall as a 3.5 with a lean towards the 4 star experience thanks to the friendly staff and the ease of coming in and out/happy hour deals. read more

I got tricked by yelpers with different standards again. I had bookmarked Second Story to try for happy hour for a while, and finally got to go yesterday. The place was completely empty for happy hour on Friday. There was literally 2 other people there when my party arrived. Beer, wine, and well drinks are cheap, but the hh food menu was limited. The quality and taste of the food were lackluster as well. Fish tacos were not particularly tasty, and at $8 for two, the pricing was not particularly generous. Brazilian cut top sirloin ($12) was pretty much three pieces of meat with brown gravy and fries. I asked if the boneless buffalo chicken was vegetarian because the chicken broke into two pieces when I poked a fork into it. Overall, it's just a boring hotel bar and restaurant, not a particularly nice hotel bar like Zinc. Food, drink, and ambiance are no different than if you went to a Marriott. Better to stick with the chain establishments down Rosecrans for happy hour. read more

Loved this little hidden gem! I had dropped a family member off at this hotel before and never knew about the restaurant. We made reservations but when we walked in we had to seat ourselves (strange). We sat at one of their huge tables (just the two of us) with no issues. They were busy but not packed or hectic for a Friday night at 7pm. Our waitress seemed to cover the entire floor area and I am not sure if I saw the chef running plates to tables? While there were some minor quirky details to get through, we had an excellent time. The food was DELICIOUS and the prices were awesome!! They honor their HH prices at the tables up until 7pm. We ordered: - Glass of house wine (free with Yelp check in) - Baked brie with fig jam (SOOOOOO good!) - Shrimp pasta (caper berries were perfect in the sauce) - Bacon wrapped pork tenderloin (delish) - two addtional glasses of wine (chardonnay & reisling) As other Yelpers have said, valet is free here and the restaurant is just up the stairs on the left hand side. My friend and I were looking for a place with nice ambiance that was in the area, and looked for places on Yelp. We were happy to find Second Story Restaurant, as it was exactly what we were looking for. The restaurant is located inside a hotel, and you have to valet park your car, but the valet is free of charge. I ordered the herb roasted Mary's Chicken, which consisted of potatoes, roasted garlic, and sautéed spinach. The food was delicious, and I seriously inhaled my plate! The chicken was tender, juicy, and filled with flavor. The garlic, the potatoes and the spinach went perfectly with the chicken. I let my friend try a bite of the potatoes, and she loved it. Actually, we both loved the potatoes so much, that we ended up ordering an extra side of potatoes, with the sauce from this chicken dish for dipping. We decided to give this restaurant a shot for me and my sisters bday. Its in the Belamar hotel and I feel its almost a hidden gem. Its a nice comfy restaurant with a modern look. The service is excellent. Our server Genoa was very good. I checked in and figured i might as well get the free glass of house wine. I went for the merlot. It was decent, not spectacular, but i wouldnt expect much from a house wine. Jumping ahead for a second, when we paid the bill, she mentioned that because i had the offer for the free glass of wine, she felt she needed to give everyone free drinks, so the rest of our beverages were all free! i know its not big deal but it was a very nice gesture. Jumping back to the food..... we started off with a few appetizers from the happy hour menu. meatball sliders and the filet mignon tacos were pretty tasty, id come back again to try all the happy hour dishes. we also got the mac n cheese, it was also pretty good. it wasnt your typical bechamel creamy mac but had a little bit of the oozy stringy cheezyness to it which i really liked. The Fish & Chips were tasty...nice and light batter, served with thin fries similar to houstons fries. The Petite sirloin with lobster tail was solid. That dish was served with a risotto cake which I thought was very good. The grilled chicken with shrimp, artichoke and potatoes was solid. I had the Brazilian picanha top sirloin. it was very tasty, flavorful like a typicaly picanha. It was served with a basmati rice which tasted so good i was eating it plain for some odd reason. haha. for dessert we got the Becker's cupcakes(it comes with 4 mini cupcakes). the lemon one was really good. The chocolate cupcake was my #2, their red velvet was #3, and #4 was the white cake with chocolate frosting. the second dessert we got was the chocolate lava cake. I would say its one of the better lavacakes....esp considering everyone and their mama has some sort of molten chocolate cake, chocolate lava cake, chocoalte souffle, etc. now the final bill after tax and tip for 5 of us basically came to $200. It has kind of gone downhill. I was here a year ago and had a really yummy dinner. And then I was here a couple days ago for happy hour and I was somewhat disappointed. I had the wings. They were boneless, which may have been the first mistake. I should have gone with my gut, because usually I am displeased with boneless wings. Sauce was mediocre in flavor. There were a couple of the wings that were super fatty and inedible. Dipping sauce was poor. Warm, white, and bland. I am old fashioned, and completely happy with blue cheese. Bartender was very sweet though and the beer I had was fine. 4 bucks for a pint during happy hour. Bar stools are incredibly uncomfortable and my back was aching after getting up. I was here with one of my colleagues and I ended up awkwardly standing for awhile during the time we were here, because I just couldn't sit in that stool any longer. read more

Great place to entertain large groups since it doesn't get terribly crowded and there are ample seating. They have a partition / room in the back with couches so big parties (20+) can sit and chill. The happy hour menu was upgraded and kind of lacking. Before they had burgers and fries, now they have sliders and greens. I tried the fish tacos(2) which wasn't too bad. The batter they used didn't give it that crunch it needed. My coworker got the spicy chicken which was quite disappointing. It looked like cut up chicken nuggets dipped in hot sauce. The banana bread pudding was apparently really good. The Brazilian steak isn't the big steak with rice that is in the yelp pictures. It is rather small and comes with shoe string fries. My coworker described it as flavorful. The servers were very accommodating and friendly. Wasn't impressed with the happy hour food/selection but when you are with good company, it doesn't really matter. It was $25 per person for a 3 course meal during this fabulous DineLA event, and I'm so happy we dined here. House wines and certain beverages were discounted during happy hour, which was nice. I ordered the mac and cheese for my first course, which was very good. My mother in law and I both had the salmon, which was excellent. The portion sizes of the meals were perfect - not too big, yet you were still full afterwards. My husband had the skirt steak, which he said was awesome as well. Our server was a true professional - very knowledgeable, made good recommendations, very friendly, and attentive. She allowed us to substitute a dessert that wasn't on the Restaurant Week menu - got the chocolate lava cake, and that was delicious, too! I would definitely go back! read more

This place holds a special place in my heart, since my wife and I got married here many moons ago when it was Barnaby's Hotel. The upgrades since then are impressive, including a swanky bar and dining area. We've enjoyed sitting at the bar and ordering appetizers or splitting a meal. We've sampled a wonderful skirt steak with fries and arugula, plus a decent charcuterie plate. We're picky on our wines (especially reds), so they could add a little imagination to their wines-by-the-glass. It was nice to see a Sonoma Cutrer chardonnay. Came here this summer for a quick drink after work. I work out of the WeWork building not far from the Belamar hotel. The bar was pretty empty at around 5 p.m. The bartender was attentive and fun to chat with. They appeared to have a nice happy hour food menu. I stuck with my $4 glass of house red. The bartender gave me a small bowel of complimentary rosemary roasted nuts. They were a bit too oily for my taste but it was a nice gesture. He seemed to care that I didn't get too sloshed before driving home. We will be having a firm happy hour here shortly so I look forward to seeing how that goes. Really impressed by Second Story. A high class atmosphere, with friendly staff and a wide selection. Really high quality food too. The Ahi Tuna Tartar was excellent. We are guests of this hotel. We decided to finish our evening here after a nice dinner. The bartender was very rude and made us feel victimized. He told us that we would not be served if we were drunk (which by the way we were not, just excited to be out of town for a girlfriends birthday). When we decided to stay even though he was already being rude, he then told us to "keep it down because people were trying to have dinner". I would understand if we were being out of control or unbelievably loud. But we just were laughing and having a good time visiting. We are from Las Vegas. Work in the customer service industry. Extremely good service even though our server never showed up. Instead, the bartender was our server and she was amazing. I don't remember her name but she was a blond woman in her 40s or 50s. She was very personable and engaging. The cocktails were also very nice and well mixed. The charcuterie appetizer was great to share and the cheeses were very good. The meatball sliders were very juicy. I had the pappardelle pasta with meatballs. It was a really generous portion but tasted excellent. We also had the fondue chocolate for dessert and it was a lot of fun. It comes in a nice cast iron pot with lots of sides including a banana, brownie bites, a cookie, raspberries and strawberries. By far my favorite restaurant! I've been here several times the service and food has always been awesome!! My husband and I wanted to try their dinner menu (since we been here for happy hours only) best choice ever. Exceeded our expectations, I had the pork pancetta tenderloin w/blue cheese mashed potatoes this dish was amazing! Pork was juicy,moist and tender all the flavors complemented each other nicely, husband had the Alaskan Halibut with rice he loved it! We also recommend the cheese fondue & kettle chips w/sweet and sour sauce. Genka service was excellent she made sure to always check on us had a possitive attitide and was very friendly at all times, she also had some really good recommendations. Tried the new brunch menu with 3 other friends and everyone really loved our meal. The highlights for me were the chicken & waffle, huevos rancheros and the chorizo mac & cheese although everything we tried was great as well. The chicken from the chicken & waffle smelled fantastic and we could tell it was already going to be great before we dug in. I was also really impressed with the huevos rancheros, especially since it's not something I typically get at brunch but I think the black beans (instead of refried beans) really worked well and I loved the flavor combination.The chorizo mac & cheese was a hit but that wasn't surprising since we all love chorizo and mac & cheese. The bloody mary and mimosa were on point as well! Super cute hotel and I may be back to stay here. If so, I'll definitely want to come back to Second Story. I've been here twice, once during the DineLA event, and then just this past week. Both times we have been seated promptly, service has been attentive yet un-intrusive, and the food was excellent. This place is fast becoming one of my favorites. There is an excellent happy hour between 4-7 pm that has several drink and food items, including main entrees at 50% off. I have tried the Halibut (best I ever had, and I eat a LOT of fish) and the Pancetta wrapped pork tenderloin (awesome!) with blue cheese mashed potatoes (they needed some salt, but that was ok because I dislike when the food is too salty). My friends have had the Halibut & the Organic Chicken (OMG!). Their cheese fondue is addicting, and the chocolate lava cake is perfect for sharing.
