We shared an omelette (substituted ham with grilled chicken) + pancakes...it was pretty good. The pancakes were served with a generous amount of melted butter which made it even better. We stopped by for a late breakfast on a Sunday. It was moderately busy, but the place was pretty spacious with lots of chairs/tables/booths available. We ordered 2 coffee, classic eggs benedict with hashbrowns, and the porkchop with eggs with hashbrowns and a side of buttermilk pancakes. We saw everyone else's food being brought out to their tables, and it all looked pretty good (especially the omelets). Our food took a little longer to arrive, and people who ordered after us received their food first, but it wasn't a big deal. The coffee was watery, and no amount of sugar or creamer could help it. And to think it was $5.49. We finally got our food, and unfortunately, it was not good. The Eggs Benedict ($17.99) was the first disappointment. I took a bite and immediately tasted something sour when I started chewing it. At first I thought it was just the ham, but I'm not entirely sure, since it was covered in hollandaise sauce. It also lacked flavor overall. The only thing I liked was the poached eggs. The pork chop with eggs ($18.99) was extremely dry, difficult to chew, and very bland. It didn't seem seasoned at all. We ordered a side of gravy to help, but I didn't realize it cost an extra $3. I wouldn't have ordered it had I known, especially since it didn't improve the taste or texture of the pork chop. The pancakes were oddly eggy and didn't taste like pancakes at all. As for the hash browns, I didn't realize hash browns could taste bad, but these were mushy and almost slimy. Half of them were heavily seasoned, while the other half was bland. Even the ketchup didn't help because it only made them mushier. One of the best breakfast options in Manhattan Beach, and one of my favorites in South Bay in general. It's in between a traditional breakfast restaurant and a diner, and some things I love about it are it has friendly and quick service, a giant menu, and great food. Inside is pretty large so it can host many different sized groups, and has booth and table seating. Parking in the area can be a bit tricky, we found a metered street spot a block away, but you may have to circle a few times before finding a spot. For this visit, I chose the Crab & Avocado Benedict because those are two of my two favorite things combined, so it was a no-brainer to order. The crab was very tasty and the hollandaise was made perfectly and overall it was a great dish. I also ordered a side of fruit and they really did not skimp on the fruit quality, they gave me banana, watermelon, grapes, and didn't just throw the melon and cantaloupe at me. I had not dined here for years, but had breakfast here last Saturday. As other reviews will likely point out, this is very much a local venue for breakfast and lunch, not the upscale hipster type places found in the downtown core. The decor speaks beach cafe, and the menu and food does the same. The food is very tasty, the portions are good and the prices are reasonable. We had not problem getting a table at 11:00 on a Saturday, no wait - maybe we were just just lucky. I can see how this place would be divisive. It's a diner and a staple of the beach cities. If you're looking for something more hipstery and cool, go across the street or next door. If you're looking for some good, old fashioned diner food with all that goes along with it, come here. The server was such a nice guy, didn't rush us and gave us some muffins to nosh since it was near closing. You can tell the seating is from way back when and the counter is probably original. I'm a sucker for a good diner and this is almost as good as our go to, Ocean's Diner. This ranks pretty high on my diners list! read more

The drip coffee was actually very tasty but not worth $5.50. You order drip thinking it will be more like $2.50. The Eggs Benedict was very bad. Smothered in a hollandaise sauce that was kind of unrecognizable and thin with odd chunks in it. It was not flavorful at all. I asked for the English muffin to be cooked well / dark. It wasn't. This is not hard to do especially considering we were the only two people in the place at 8am on a Saturday. I ordered extra fruit trying to be healthy. The fruit tasted very bad as it was not fresh at all. I sent the fruit back. If your fruit is not fresh, don't serve it. It's obvious to everyone on the planet when fruit is not fresh. You're not tricking anyone. I asked for a glass of orange juice. You could tell it was right out of a carton. Minute Maid carton orange juice. It tasted ok. $8. Not worth it. Should be like $3.50. If you're going to serve carton orange juice from the grocery store, no problem. Don't charge $8 for it. I hadn't been there in years and now I know why. I won't be returning. read more

Five of us enjoyed breakfast here on a Sunday morning. It's a local neighborhood joint with a comfortable, homey interior and plenty of seating if you get there early. We had a couple of California omelettes, an Al's El Porto omelette, a Manhattan Beach omelette and a Denver scramble. All were served with hash browns and your choice of biscuit or pancakes. The biscuits are huge, fluffy and delicious. The pancakes were also very good. All of the omelettes were well prepared - not particularly large, but still a good value considering that the biscuit or the pancakes are included in the price. A must. I was driving by and saw this place. I didn't have breakfast yet, and I like Dinners. This place is small. I believe family owned and run by the looks of it. Very nice menu of a lot of different types of food to choose from. Today, I ordered the Denver Omelet, and a side of fruit instead of potatoes, which was very fresh, and the ham was not salty at all very fresh tasting. I believe it's a 3 egg omelet. Get the banana muffins!!! This place was like home to me growing up. Grew up right in El Porto my family and I went there every weekend and it's some of my favorite memories, if locals remember back in the day they had photos all over the walls of people and DOGS lots of dog pictures from everyone in the neighborhood which made it feel like home. To my surprise I went back to visit my parents and we decided to go for some nostalgia and everyone who worked there when I was a kid are still there! Over 20+ years those servers have been at Local Yolk, they know exactly who my family is and they were so happy to see me and talk about when I was a kid and it made me feel some much love. That place is built off diner style food and good people! They had changed owners some years ago so no more neighborhood photos but those servers are what make that place amazing and local feeling. I couldn't recommend this place more if you just want to have a nice chill diner breakfast. *This is not a LA fad restaurant so don't go in expecting LA ambiance because this place really is just a local neighborhood diner and I never want to see it leave. I truly hope I can go there with my parents and my own kids one day and can show them my favorite Mickey Mouse pancakes! I'm so happy I found this place! I was at the beach and got hungry so I started walking around, hoping to find a cute cafe and I stumbled upon this place. It had an empty table outside just waiting for me. Very large and diverse menu. Indoor and outdoor seating, and friendly, prompt service. I loved my California Cobb Salad! The Local Yolk has been a standard since we lived in Manhattan Beach in 2008 and I am pleased to see it is still serving good food with large portions. The staff are warm and welcoming even at 6am and the ambiance is diner style and busy at peak hours. The price of coffee is quite high at $5 per cup but does serve excellent coffee. This is a local treasure, similar to my favorite Redondo spot, Scotty's. I've read a few complaints about the price, and it is on the high side. At the same time, the food has always been on point (fresh, hot, plentiful), so you get what you pay for. The fresh orange juice is $4.50, but it does taste delicious, especially on a hot day. The average cost is around $22/person (not including tip), if you get an entree and some type of drink. On this particular Sunday our server was 'Z' who is always focused, I'd call her a consummate professional. The interior atmosphere can be a bit noisy; it is filled with locals who are excited for the day ahead, or happy to chat about the night before. I had the Gordito Burrito which was as delicious as it was big. It comes covered with an enchilada sauce, jack and cheddar cheese, guacamole, sour cream, diced tomatoes, and green onions; it is 'dressed to impress.' Most important, it is chalked full of scrambled eggs, sausage, grilled onions, rice, refried beans and American cheese. this is a food baby waiting to be consumed, I turned it into two meals. The inside is not looking to win any interior decoration awards, it is a simple cafe format, which also has sidewalk seating. Let's start by saying customer service is horrible! The lady with the glasses was rude from the very beginning. Rushed through our order, forgot drinks, we asked for straws and she tossed them on the table. Once we received our food it was horrible, simple pancakes we couldn't even cut them. Great food, great ambiance, great location. We sat outside and watched LA wakeup during a LONG layover in LAX (you can get here pretty quickly from the airport). Service was great and so was the food.
