I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas ( 1 Ancho & 1 Cilantro Cream) Plate this Monday night. Very rich, very delicious and everything tasted handmade with true love. The enchiladas were very soft and cooked well. The cheese was thick and the sauces were very aromatic. The ancho was more on the salty and savory sides rather than sweet. The cilantro cream was earthy, salty and tangy to the right degree. I really liked the well-cooked, tender bell pepper n red onions in the filling. The chicken in each wrap was very juicy, marinated nicely, dark meat and very flavorful. Thick like fajita, but taste, texture and appearance like hunks of pulled chicken off the bone. The black beans were chunky and spiced well. The rice was very moist, buttery and mildly seasoned making a highly addictive side with the enchiladas. The service was very welcoming, friendly and efficient. I need to try their bread pudding with whisky sauce for dessert, which is made in house here next time I come since that's one of my favorite desserts anyway. read more

Quiet, homey restaurant with strikingly good food. Seco was the chef at my favorite Houston restaurant for many years (Jalapeños on Kirby), and many of my favorite dishes from there live on here. I love the Pollo Lily, the fajitas, the calamari, the spinach enchiladas, and the steaks, but everything we've tried so far has been excellent. I went to Seco's Latin Cuisine with a friend who was in town from Austin. I had never heard of Seco's but it's located right off of Kirby. They have a small lot but you'll likely have to park on the street. Seco's is a homey neighborhood restaurant. We were the only people there when we arrived at 5:30 but the restaurant soon filled up on a Sunday. There are some things to like and some things not to like about Seco's. While they're listed as a Latin American restaurant, the vast majority of the dishes on the menu are Mexican. We started off with complimentary chips and salsa and ordered some queso. The queso was some of the worst I've had at a restaurant. It tasted just like the Tostito's queso you can get at grocery stores. This was a shame as the chips were really good. For my main dish, I had the margarita chicken which comes with mushrooms, tomatoes, green onions, and serrano peppers in a creamy yet zesty sauce. The chicken is served with rice and comes with a side salad. While the chicken was good, the portion size was pretty small. You get two small pieces of chicken. The service, like the food, is average. Our waitress forgot to bring my drink and I had to remind her. She did, however, apologize. It also took a while to get our waitresses' attention after we had finished eating and were ready for our checks. She should've stopped by more frequently to check in on us. While Seco's is a solid restaurant to check out if you live in the area, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again. read more

OMG, what wonderful food they have! I was there 3 times this week, and plan on going again in a few days. I went on a Sunday, so I could watch the Texan game. Delicious meal in a very cute little house within the Rice Village area. We must have passed this place a million times going down Kirby and we finally decided to stop by for dinner club. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of food and service at Seco's. There is a small bar inside with a small tv, but you come here for the delicious latin cuisine. We had a wide variety of dishes, and we were all very happy with everything we ordered. The food came out fresh and succulent. I personally had the sizzling fajita dish (but it was called something else on the menu I forget) and it was served with a delicious sausage meat that I would love to put on a hot dog bun and eat all day. I recently had an engagement party @ Seco's. The service & food were great, however only 19 of the originally 25 people showed up for the party. The restaurant insisted on charging me for 25 people saying they prepared enough food based on our RSVP, HOWEVER it was a buffet and it was open to all of the restaurant, not just our party. I was really displeased with how they handled the situation, and charged us for 6 additional people that were not even there. I will not have another party at this restaurant. read more

Secos is one of my favorite spots to take some of my friends. It has this kind of special and home-y feel to it that other places don't have and the food here is delicious. When I go, I always order their famous spinach enchiladas. Everything that is included on that plate is magnificent. The beans has a subtle sweet taste to it and is great. The rice is made right, and the enchiladas...mmm... they disappear quick (plate comes with two). However... on my last visit I think they may have cooked the steak with too much alcohol or wine because it definitely stood out, but... it was still good. It seems as though the plates are made fresh too because the plate always comes hot and the wait time is a bit longer than usual. Once you are done, you have to order the bread pudding. It is to die for. Don't bother crossing the street to Crave Cupcakes for dessert. The bread pudding is amazing and really hits the spot well. It has the right amount of sweetness and arrives nice and warm. My only gripe is that the single serving is around $5 (If I remember correctly). Worth it! Their parking is funny. They have a one way drive way that leads to their backyard and you can park 4-5 cars there. Or... you can park on the street. The restaurant can't hold too many people though. Starbucks is bigger than this place, but that's why I think it gives it a home-y feel. Come and check it out, and try not to fill up on the chips and salsa either! read more

My girlfriends and I start out at Seco's every time we are in the area because of the attentive service and "yelp famous" enchiladas! My favorites are the spinach enchiladas -- with cilantro cream sauce, and the Houston Press "Hot Plate." The latter are filled with corn roasted poblanos, onions, and cream cheese with cilantro cream sauce. Race to Seco's for the most delicious food Ever! The owner/chef, Seco, has received six different awards from different food reviewers. I eaten there for over ten years and have tried MANY different dishes. Added to experience is the wait staff- Patricia and Pablo. They great everyone like family. Yum yum yum! Had a great time here. Even though parking is limited and a headache to find, it is definitely worth it. The chips and salsa that comes at the beginning of any Latin meal was possibly the best I've had in years. As for a main dish, I ordered the original spinach enchiladas and wow was I surprised by how good it was! I was planning to save half my meal because I was stuffed with the chips and salsa (which always ends up happening when eating Latin) but before I knew it, I had finished the entire plate! As for service, our waiter was very efficient and accommodating. The atmosphere was casual and easy, kind of like a cafe, and it got a little loud towards the end when large parties came in. Don't let the comments about it not being suitable for a ladies' brunch dissuade you...I came here with a group of six ladies and it made for a very enjoyable brunch place. Our reservation (yes, reservations for Sunday brunch in Houston are recommended) was for noon but they weren't too busy then. But by 1 pm, the place was pretty much packed. The food was SO good! Yes, it is not your typical brunch food, but no matter. I couldn't decide which enchiladas I preferred...the corn or the spinach. Both were so good and with them being cut in half, it made it easy for me to keep going back for more and not feeling guilty about eating too much. There was some sort of egg scramble with veggies and chorizo that was very tasty. The fish tamales were really good albeit a little messy since the plantain leaf was a greasy mess to unfold. There was some sort of chicken with a creamy sauce that was very good, as well as another fish dish. I didn't see labels so all this is conjecture. No joke, everything I tried was delicious! At the time of my meal here I was still a rookie in the game of Sunday brunch buffets. And I guess I am glad I held back on my review. Originally I was happy to have a buffet with various items, but after visiting the options at Cadillac Bar I had to drop this place by one star. First off, this place is tiny, which isn't a bad thing, but it proves to be a problem when lots of people want in. Parking is available on the street. Because of the potential problems being faced with a tight fit we decided to come very early, literally the first people in when it opened. This meant fresh food! The serving area is in the middle of the restaurant, reference back to small space, it takes up more of the area. The food itself was OK, nothing blew away at the same time nothing was terrible. This is one of my favorite Latin American restaurants in Houston! I have always enjoyed the food and have always had good service. My personal favorite is the Pollo Moran, which is flavorful without feeling too heavy! Their chile con queso is great too. Their margaritas are tasty and decently strong. It definitely has a cozy, homey feel to it, and it usually does not have a wait, which is great! It has a small outdoor patio with 2-3 tables, which is great for COVID concerns. I felt pretty comfortable eating outdoors there even earlier on in the pandemic when we were still figuring out how effective vaccines were, etc. Would definitely recommend this place! read more

My favorite thing about Seco's is the warm atmosphere of a small family restaurant. Engulfed by a deco that screams old family home, Seco provides good quality food that seems more focused on Mexican cuisine than the broader term used in their name. After searching through the extensive menu, I narrowed it down to a several that caught my attention. Appetizers began with the fried mozzarella cheese served with green basil pesto sauce and marinara. This didn't sound very much like latin cuisine but I am a sucker for fried cheese. Surprisingly much better than I expected when I took my first bite. The cheese wasn't hot enough to burn but just enough to ooze out as you cut through the crust. The second appetizer dish failed to wow us like the fried cheese. Skewers of grilled salmon and red fish served with a simple slaw in light dressing. This dish was missing several elements and there wasn't much to it besides just simple cooked fish. There was a lack of seasoning also but I'm a fan of plain cooked fish without any overwhelming sauce so I can't say I hate it but I won't say I love it. Coming up next is the Tortilla soup which was a simple vegetable broth with soggy tortilla chips and chunks of various items such as chicken, tomatoes, avocado, and cabbage. Very subtle on the taste buds because it was a basic vegetable soup. The corn enchilada with black refried beans and rice was probably my favorite dish of the night simply because I've never had anything like this before. The corn's subtle sweetness balanced with the creaminess of the queso blanco. This resulted in a heavy dish that didn't seem overpowering and it didn't leave you gasping for air after you finished the dish. I would definitely get this dish again if I came back. The last dish was the tequila lime chicken with green beans and rice. This meal also came with a house salad with your choice of dressing. I chose the cilantro jalapeño ranch dressing, also known as watered down ranch. Nothing exciting about this except the lime flavor slaps you in the face because that's all you can taste on top of a pan seared chicken breast that has been butterflied. I would say this is a nice restaurant of a quick meal if you are in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here. I loved the feel of the restaurant but the food fell a little short this time. I would certainly like to come again and give it a second try. Hopefully, things will be different next time. read more

Came here for lunch to meet my cousin. I was trying to find somewhere between our offices and this was the only place that came up on the map search. When we got there we were quickly seated and given menus but it took forever to place our order. Which was surprising because there were only a few other tables occupied in the restaurant. After we finally ordered the food came out quickly. I ordered the taco salad which was good but not great. We were in somewhat of a time crunch so we paid and left quickly but the chef followed us out of the restaurant like he thought we didn't pay it was very strange. This was one of my favorite brunch spots. It was a 5 star place in my mind, but after going yesterday I was going to update it to 4 stars. Don't get me wrong, the place is still good, it just seems to slide a notch in my book. I use to say "the food is amazing"... just go, for $15 it's a deal. Now the tag line would be "the food is good... but it's all about the tres leches cake.' I'll echo what others have said: "This place is tiny and literally feels like somebody's dining room" "The buffet line had a good variety and everything I tasted was good" So then why did it slip from a 5 to a 4... the fajitas were gone?!?! We go often with our family, and the food is always delicious and the service is always friendly and attentive. It has a family feel between Seco in the kitchen and his wife and daughters in the dining room - these are people who truly care! The spinach and corn enchiladas are both amazing, as are the fish tacos. The chicken and fish entrees are also terrific (and a great option if you're looking for something on the lighter side). We love the Pollo Lilly. Great margaritas, fresh & crispy chips and fresh, house-made salsa. Be sure to check out brunch, which includes a wide array of Seco's best dishes - it's a bargain!
