The salsa is terrific! And addictive.

Quiet, homey restaurant with strikingly good food. Seco was the chef at my favorite Houston restaurant for many years (Jalapeños on Kirby), and many of my favorite dishes from there live on here. I love the Pollo Lily, the fajitas, the calamari, the spinach enchiladas, and the steaks, but everything we've tried so far has been excellent. We're looking forward to trying the buffet next time!

I went to Seco's Latin Cuisine with a friend who was in town from Austin. I had never heard of Seco's but it's located right off of Kirby. They have a small lot but you'll likely have to park on the street. Seco's is a homey neighborhood restaurant. We were the only people there when we arrived at 5:30 but the restaurant soon filled up on a Sunday. There are some things to like and some things not to like about Seco's. While they're listed as a Latin American restaurant, the vast majority of the dishes on the menu are Mexican. We started off with complimentary chips and salsa and ordered some queso. The queso was some of the worst I've had at a restaurant. It tasted just like the Tostito's queso you can get at grocery stores. This was a shame as the chips were really good. For my main dish, I had the margarita chicken which comes with mushrooms, tomatoes, green onions, and serrano peppers in a creamy yet zesty sauce. The chicken is served with rice and comes with a side salad. While the chicken was good, the portion size was pretty small. You get two small pieces of chicken. The service, like the food, is average. Our waitress forgot to bring my drink and I had to remind her. She did, however, apologize. It also took a while to get our waitresses' attention after we had finished eating and were ready for our checks. She should've stopped by more frequently to check in on us. While Seco's is a solid restaurant to check out if you live in the area, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again.

Came here for lunch on a Saturday. Very peaceful environment with soothing holiday music in the background, our waiter was welcoming, attentive and friendly. Really like how cozy and homey this restaurant feels, what a hidden gem in the neighborhood. We are very impressed with the food, great flavors and it is not too heavy. Very affordable price as well. Support local restaurants like this one, come and dine here!

Delicious meal in a very cute little house within the Rice Village area. We must have passed this place a million times going down Kirby and we finally decided to stop by for dinner club. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of food and service at Seco's. There is a small bar inside with a small tv, but you come here for the delicious latin cuisine. We had a wide variety of dishes, and we were all very happy with everything we ordered. The food came out fresh and succulent. I personally had the sizzling fajita dish (but it was called something else on the menu I forget) and it was served with a delicious sausage meat that I would love to put on a hot dog bun and eat all day. We would definitely not hesitate to come back again for another meal. Apparently, they have a great Sunday brunch that we intend to check out!

Had the joint to ourselves. Amazing service and delicious pupusas. Chef can cook a steak correctly, which gets stars! Love his El Salvadorian/Tex-Mex fusion. Highly recommended.

Their unique position as one of the only Venezuelan spots in the loop becomes even more niche when one realizes that part of the menu is also Mediterranean / Middle Eastern (#1). If that's not Houston in a nutshell, I don't know what is. The place sports a casual vibe with a clean and bright interior. It's been practically empty with every visit, but I suspect the takeout game is strong here. There is limited parking in the back of the restaurant and the narrow alleyway entrance is somewhat easy to miss. Food wise, I am not disappointed. Their cheese cachapa is the stuff of dreams and includes a number of stuffings from ham to shredded chicken / beef. My vote is for their pabellón, which is a nice combination of shredded beef, black beans, and sweet plantains. For cheese lovers, the double cheese is perfectly indulgent with the sweetness of the cornmeal. The main draw for me was the arepas, which is something I missed having had so much of it back in NYC. La Pelua (shredded beef, mixed shredded cheese) is one of my go-tos, but my all-time favorite is the reina pepiada, a shredded chicken mixed with avocado topped with sprinkled salty white cheese. It's a staple in the Venezuelan arepa game and while their version is very solid, I'm just extremely thankful that it's available. Their breakfast platters are a big draw, which mainly consist of scrambled egg combos paired with arepas and various proteins. I think their yuca buñelos, tequeños, patacones, and especially their mandocas are incredibly underrated. The latter is practically dessert since it's mashed plantains with the cachapa stuffed with sugar and cheese. While they're not known for their empanadas, I do think their cazon (#2) is unique and their potato and cheese is always hearty. The shredded beef is a nice alternative to their arepas or arepitas (side) and make for an excellent snack on the go. Fans of Venezuelan cuisine who find themselves in the inner loop owe them a visit and I highly recommend calling ahead of time to ensure they have items available and to get a jump on the wait time for takeout. They are a slept on gem in the neighborhood and one that I hope sticks around for a very long time. _____________ (#1) The owners are Venezuelan and Syrian. The sweetest couple. (#2) Dogfish? It's really a mini shark.

From the moment I stepped into this cozy spot, I instantly felt like I was back home in Puerto Rico. Just like our island, it's small, but filled with a huge heart. We spent time chatting with them about our families, childhood memories, and how happy we are that they've kept our culture alive right here in the Montrose area of Houston. We enjoyed a true Puerto Rican feast: arroz con gandules, pernil, mofongo con camarones al ajillo, pollo frito, empanadas de yuca y masa, flan de coco, limber de guanábana, and of course, more food to take home because we couldn't have it all at once! My personal favorite were the limbers with traditional flavors I don't recall ever having a limber outside of PR. This is a counter-service eatery, where you can see all the freshly prepared dishes right in front of you. You truly can't ask for better service; if there's something you're craving that's not in the menu for that day and they have time, they'll gladly make it for you! That's the kind of love and care you only find in places that cook from the heart. Prices are very reasonable although parking can be a bit tricky but that's mostly all of Montrose. Let's keep our culture thriving. s Support our local Puerto Rican businesses. WEEPA!

Best thing I tried. The shrimp was well cooked and the rice had some flavor but was overall something I didn't feel the need to finish. Not impressive. Some folks ordered the tuna tacos and steak. They were all eaten quickly. The steaks ordered medium were on the medium rare side so cooked appropriately. Oysters were good. Scallops were okay. Chocolate cake just okay. Churros were great.
