This is a tough review to write because the building, the staff and the beach were great but the food just was NOT!! There are several restaurants on site but none of them were good. The food was just bad! Unbelievable and unacceptable! At the airport on our way home we ate breakfast and we all joked that the airport food was the best food we had had the entire week. Also while the pools were great getting a seat at one of them was not. Very early every morning all the guest rush out to try and get a place at the pool. If you don't leave your room at 7 am then you won't get a seat. Lastly there was a sewer smell at various places at the resort, with the strongest smell being in the sports bar. My name is Annmarie Everett, I was invited to a tour at Secrets, in Cancun. It was my sister and my birthday trip in June 2022. We were already lodging at the Marriot. I would like to say that Secrets was beautiful with amenities. However, I soon learned that Unlimited Vacation Club, is a fraud, deceitful, misleading, liars, and an entire con. Our tour guide Roberto, was was very nice and alluring however, the venom of the entire company was unveiled. We were told all the tickling features to the ear which were ultimately untrue. Such as you can travel anytime. We are not a Time Share but a Membership (which operates the same as a Time Share). Buying into the membership would pay for it self. We were asked several times how much we spend when vacationing which is usually about $1300.00 all inclusive. Family and friends can travel, you can book up to twenty rooms for only a $20.00 reservation fee for all rooms. You wont have to pay for the resort only airfare etc. As a incentive, my sister and I were offered to stay and enjoy the resort with Unlimited Vacation Resort with the hope of us purchasing. The Unlimited Vacation Club, moved me and my sister and I out the Marriott, to their resort. Which again I'll say was beautiful however, that we soon found out is the deception to lure people in while being showered with Champagne, drinks, and various alcohol (I have video footage). We actually the Membership. On June 22, 2022, two days later we tried to book a trip in one of the sister resorts, the pricing was $2300.00. No different than booking on Book It .com, so how do we benefit. Raised red flags, no accommodations for a party of four so definitely not for a party of six. We found out a each room was a $20 reservation fee. We decided to cancel this membership. It was fraudulent and not true to advertisement. We attempted to cancel a representative by the name of Miguel, said it was no problem that he needed to send paperwork. Then was received several emails from CARLOS NEGRETE, the Director Of Quality Assurance. He's been rude, aggressive, bulling, misogynistic, threatening, and a liar! He continually sent conflicting emails and he's very deceitful (I have an email paper trail. I'm ending by saying this Company is a fraud DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THEM. If I could give zero stars I would. This is the WORST all inclusive "resort" in Cancun. DO NOT waste your money. 1. Hotel is dark, muggy, and smells Like black mold, there was mold in our room on our walls! Bed and pillows also stink. This is also after their reopening after Covid with extra cleaning protocols. 2. We asked to switch rooms and were told they would let us know when a room was open, never happened. Had to bug them again to switch our rooms. With covid going on, the hotel is not at full capacity so they blocked floors. The balconies are so close to the room next door and the walls are THIN. We could hear the couple next to us screaming all evening and smoking on the balcony (this is non smoking). The girl was coughing up a lung on her balcony and we could not even go and enjoy our balcony due to social distancing. After about 3 hours I complained and was told someone would go check on the room making all of the noise. It never happened and we did not get ANY sleep that evening. 3. The night we decided to not leave the hotel and have dinner, we asked and I kid you not, 4 people working there which restaurant was open. We were led on a wild goose chase to finally end up right where we started in the front lobby. Out of the 7 restaurants, only 2 were open. That wasn't the issue, the issue was that no one working here had any idea what was going on. 4. We decided not to do their all inclusive deal because not all of the restaurants were even open and the drinks were trash. We had to wear bracelets. My fiancé and I had an engagement photo shoot and I kindly asked if they can remove the bracelets just for the photos. They said no unless we paid $100 per bracelet. Another option was upgrading to all inclusive. Fine. It was already day 3pm and we spent about $70 on lunch at the hotel, so I asked if they could at least charge us a half day for this day. The manager said no. They have the worst customer service. They did not try to even work with us and NOT ONE person we spoke to ever apologized for our horrible stay. 5. This was a birthday trip for my fiancé and it was horrible. They treated us like crap and have the worst customer service. The food is not good, the drinks are not good, the management is RUDE. After a long flight they will sit you down and have their salespeople try to sell you vacations. It is not relaxing at all and the resort is just dirty and smells bad. read more

Meh. My husbands work comes here once a year and this was a second year back. We noticed a big difference from last year to this one. Customer service seems to have taken the biggest hit. Every time we called for simple things we were transferred which was frustrating. I also got food poisoning the last night which put a damper on the trip. I loved it here the food, the servers, the weather, the water! I have never had such an amazing time in my whole life and this hotel made the experience that much better! They also make you feel special because everyone remembers your name! Thank you secrets! The sea salt grill had amazing fish tacos! The water blue grill had delicious salmon and octopus. The dragon restaurant had good beef Kun pao and sushi. We stayed at an ocean front suite it was amazing. Keep in mind check in is at 3pm. We recommend not going through the haste Of exchanging money because they take American money everywhere and you can also pay with your debit card. Do take sun screen because it is over priced! This resort is adults only, modern, well maintained with well-trained staff and good service. Food and drinks is average compare to other all-inclusive resorts in Mexico. With nice and well groomed beach and number of large pools you wouldn't need to run first thing in a morning to claim your spot. At the other hand all restaurants at the resort are very small with no reservation system available. Usually it would take you up to two hours to get in there. They will try to sell you a reservation in one of three restaurants only if you order at least one bottle of wine that would cost you minimum $45 or bottle of champagne. read more

This is a great all inclusive resort!! My friends and I came here for a girls trip and I was impressed. They picked us up from the airport as arranged and as soon as we got to the resort we were greeted with champagne. It was 4 of us with 2 rooms staying for 5 days. We opted for the special VIP option and each room had a butler and once we were introduced to him, he told us all the resort had to offer, checked us in, and showed us to our rooms. I stayed on the 25th floor. Wine & apples waiting for us with a full mini fridge. All we had to do was ask and it was refilled. Same with the champagne which just made me the happiest woman in the world. We had a private pool on the 12th floor. The rooms were very clean and the view was everything!!!!! There was an iPad in the room that we used to check the daily activities and order 24 hour room service. I ordered wings and ribs from room service and was very pleased. Loved the corn! There was the marketplace that had international breakfast and lunch, then Mexican dinner. There was a steakhouse, an Asian Fusion restaurant, a seafood restaurant, an Italian restaurant and a Mediterranean restaurant all part of the all inclusive package. I ate at them all except for the Steakhouse. Disliked the Italian restaurant but loved all the others! There were pools and activities at the resort. I participated in Pool volleyball, wine tasting, saw a couple of performances, went to the DJ party every night, got a massage at the lovely spa, and also went downtown. I also like this location because it's right along the strip. Right outside the hotel, you can catch the bus for $1 to go to the mall, other restaurants and shops, and downtown where nightlife and the clubs are. I was out pretty late and the buses were still running. All staff were friendly and very accommodating. Our butler, the maids, the servers, everyone!! Special thanks to Jackie who did our volleyball game. She remembered our names the whole trip and was very helpful and fun. The only small issue we encountered was a lady turning us away for not having the right cover ups on for breakfast. While we were eating we saw a lot of other people with some extra skin showing too, but hey it could have been worse. I would definitely recommend and revisit this resort. Great trip! read more

Visited secrets the vine a couple of times now, the first time was during the first couple of weeks they opened, so they actually had their grand opening party while I was there. Everything at this hotel is a top notch 5 stars, starting from the service, restaurants, rooms, pool area, activities, etc... I have booked the VIP package (preferred club) with a personal concierge, it's much more expensive than their regular packages, but that was worth every penny! It gives you access to private pools, spas, and you have a private concierge who's at your service at all times. The service is ROYAL, not sure if that's related to having a preferred club status or not, but being called by your last name wherever you go and being offered a top of the line service. The restaurants are all just great, I don't recall one restaurant that I wouldn't give at least 4/5 for. My top choices are the Argentina steakhouse and Olios the mediterranean restaurant. These two are simply amazing, serving a wide variety of flank and aaa steaks, along with middle-eastern options of shawarmas, falafels, etc... from their lebanese chef ann-maria! Their entertainment options are on the higher level side compared to your typical resort entertainment. This features singers, celebrities, cirque du soliel style acts, etc... Pool and room service are nothing different than all of the above. The place is always clean and spotless. My second time here. Keep these things in mind before booking. First off, yes the hotel "looks" amazing, and yes the beach is fantastic. Main problems... FOOD! Breakfast. The buffet at cafe is usually the best part of the day. Fresh fruit always good. The chef making fresh cooked omelets were my go to. Lunch. The buffet was mediocre, Cafe slightly worse than breakfast but at times was the best choice. Forget sea salt grill and defiantly the pool side grill. I got served a shriveled up nasty low grade mystery meat hotdog with pickled onions. Who puts that on a hotdog without asking. Seriously how do you mess up a hotdog?! Dinner. Not good. Wait times / Service... HORRIBLE. You go to a restaurant which sit 1/3 or 1/2 empty and they tell you 40-1hr wait. On top of that you sit down and wait more for the food to come out not warm, questionable preparation and food quality. As if most of the food was prepared, and not brought to the table in a timely manner. Best dinner was the average ribeye steak at the steakhouse and 1/2 a overcooked Tony potato. Deserts. All show no go. Forget about even finding a freaking Twix bar here they don't have anything here if you have a sweet tooth. Fancy looking deserts and cakes that suck. They serve burnt cookies hard as a rock. How hard is it to make slice and baked cookies? Ambience in the restaurants is quite nice. The decor and feel is great. However, these does not make up for the lack of service and food quality. Simply put all show no go. On top of that every restaurant they try and up sell you a bottle of wine or champagne that for example: Veuve Clicquot normally retails for about 45$, they sell for $150. We had asked him the night before if he knew of anyone in town that served this delicacy as my boyfriend had partaken of it in previous vacations and was on the hunt for it once again. As an industry professional myself I am BLOWN away by this level of care and customer service. I cannot express enough how amazing this was and how special it made us feel. We are eternally grateful for the impeccable service the team gave us. We upgraded our room to a club level and that gave us access to the roof pool and the lunch spot located right by the roof pool. I would say it is worth the upgrade. Food = 1) poolside buffet grill has hamburgers hotdogs, fries, chips, guacamole. Hotdogs are nasty, stay away. 2) dragons is an Asian restaurant with sushi. Having ayce sushi is cool but it's all pre-made. Sushi is akin to grocery store sushi. The only good sushi is the Ikura and sashimi (only tuna and salmon available), and even that is sliced poorly. Tuna sashimi looks like they went at it with a butter knife, and salmon sashimi still has blood lines on the meat. Vietnamese spring roll is poorly wrapped and more akin to a poorly made Asian burrito. Ramen is bland and unflavorful, pad Thai is weird tasting but ok, ribs are amazing, and the octopus salad is literally a cooked octopus tentacle with a side of coleslaw I consider myself an Asian cuisine snob so this place didn't do it for me. 5/10 3) seasalt grill is a casual spot by the pool offering seafood dishes. They offer indoor and outdoor (covered) dining. Tuna and salmon ceviche appetizers are to die for. I had the tuna 5 times during our trip. The fish cracklins are superb, the whole fried fish is literally a whole fried tilapia with rice. Very good. The tacos are very good as well (August only). The seafood soup is good, but it's been stewing so long the meat in the seafood kind of breaks down in your mouth. We ate here a few times. They also have a different menu at dinner so be sure not to miss out on that one. 8/10 4) buffets for breakfast are located in Dragons (limited to staff and presentation guests, I'll explain later) and another behind the gift shop. Breakfast is good but no fresh made to order juices. Typical food for breakfast buffets, with a variety of fresh fruit, cheese, and cold cuts. Has an omelette station for made to order eggs. Lunch here is pretty good, with a few American dishes mixed in with Spanish and Mexican fare. The seafood meatballs are to die for, grab as many as you can and run! 6/10 5) sports bar offers many American sports on TV, along with bar food. They have a self service popcorn station and a billiards table. Grab burgers, hotdogs and cheesecake here. We didn't eat here. 6) Bluewater grill is a steak house and seafood grill on the 12th floor. They offer a variety of great dishes. The steaks are just ok. Could be more tender. It's dark here so I couldn't really see how accurate it's cooked (I like rare) but some other people have told me it tends to be over cooked. I had the grilled octopus (delicious) and tuna tar tar (also delicious) empanadas are pretty good, but I wouldn't eat it again. The salmon with truffle mashed potatoes are very good as well. A solid dining experience, we ate here twice 7/10 7) olio is the Mediterranean restaurant with all outdoor seating for dinner. They have hummus, skewers and other Mediterranean fare. The salads are amazing, and if you go here at the right time you can watch the sunset. Meat is a little dry on the skewer and kabobs. We ate here once (7/10). 8) nebbiolo is an Italian restaurant with a small brick oven. They have a small antipasto bar. The pizza here is personal sized and thin crust. Amazing pizza. The gnocchi is pretty good, but not my thing. They have fresh bread and olive oil here for dipping. Seriously the pizza is very good. 7/10 9)cafe is located on the left as you head outside to the beach. They offer amazing big pretzels and coffee. Ask and they'll make it for you. They have a variety of deserts and sandwiches depending on time of day, and pizza by the slice after 11pm. We stopped by here a few times 7/10 10) final thoughts = food here is good but nothing stellar. I loaded up on octopus and tuna whenever I could. We went to Secrets for a 4- night stay over Memorial Day weekend. We were excited to stay at such a nice resort for a little R&R. We've been to this area of Mexico frequently so there wasn't anything new to see or explore. This was purely a do nothing vacation and we never left the resort. Here are the pros and cons listed below. Pros- 5-star service! The staff was the highlight of our stay. Staff mentions- *Blanca by the pool took my large float to the concierge and had it pumped up for me. It was larger than her and almost blew her away carrying it back to our cabana. *Bryant in the Nebbiola Restaurant was one of the best waiters we had in the restaurants! He was top notch! *Estrella made the best cappuccinos every morning in the coffee bar *David makes interesting cocktails in the Market Restaurant at night. He lit my cinnamon margarita on fire. The beach is long and expansive - great walking beach The pool area offers three pools and there are plenty of chairs. I personally preferred to read a book in the cabana. You don't have to pay for the cabanas which was a highlight. The entertainment staff was super friendly and they performed a Memorial Day show with a US Flag. That was cool! They offer an entertainment schedule each day from Zumba, pool aerobics, spanish class, dancing by the pool and nightly entertainment in the piano bar. They weren't pushy about selling timeshares! We just received a note under our door for a few days of our stay which we ignored. I am not a fan of timeshares and the last thing I want to do on vacation is to have pushy salespeople try to get us to attend a timeshare presentation. The rooms are nice. We did not go for the premium upgrade and it was fine. The balcony's are spacious and we had a partial view of the ocean. They offer free wi-fi and international calling to the US. Cons- The ellipticals in the gym are facing in front of large glass windows. The view is amazing but it's hot in the gym. They should turn up the air conditioning. Room- they have a water system in the hotel that purifies ocean water. I was not a fan of the salty smell of the shower or the linens. They need to improve the food. It's hit or miss. You learn what is good and what is not. Our favorites are the ceviche at the Sea Salt Grill. Short Ribs at the Bluewater Grill. The duck at Dragons. Try the tempura ice cream at Dragons. The pizza at Nebbiolo is thin and good. Just go with Bryant's recommendations. The steak tacos and coconut shrimp at the Market Cafe were good. We never made it to Olio's. Avoid room service it was terrible. The omelets are the way to go for breakfast. For a 5 star hotel the food just doesn't impress at this level. If you love wine- the wine to buy is way over-priced. I stuck with the house wines. They are ok. This hotel is more like a 4 -star hotel. I also stayed 4 nights at the Grand Velas Riviera Maya another 5 star and that was far more superior but it comes with a much heftier price tag too. All in all we enjoyed our time at the Vines. It was all about sleeping in, working out, day drinking by the pool, and reading a book. Our vacation was about spending time doing things we don't have time for at home. Awful!!! We were stranded due to our flight being cancelled back to the US so we had to book another night. They told us to book through a third party because they couldn't book us another night. So we did there are 4 of us total we booked 2 more rooms based on DOUBLE occupancy then for them to tell us we had to pay and additional $400 for two of us. Then we went to have lunch waited an hour for tacos and salad for our waiter to tell the manager that we eat it but yet he never put it in and kept saying 10 more minutes. Scammy Resort- BEWARE! They cancelled our reservation without notice, a week before our trip! After calling to clear things up, we were told they had attempted to notify us 48 hours ahead of the cancellation via email. No such attempt was made. We asked for a screenshot or proof that this notice was sent and they couldn't produce proof. This would have have been our second trip to Secrets, and while the first was far from perfect either, this takes the cake. We will not be staying at any AMR resorts in the future. We've discovered that AMR will cancel reservations that have been made far in advance, or those that have promotions or reduced rates, so that they can charge customers more expensive rates. By the time we had called to rebook, they wanted to charge us triple the cost and had already sold our prior room reservation, less than 2 hours after being notified of the cancellation. They attempted to do this to us the first time, but we were able to negotiate to keep our reservation, as they had actually issued a 48-hour notice prior to cancellation. Perhaps this is how they fixed that loophole - by not sending advance notifications at all. IF you end up keeping your reservation, stay vigilant. There are numerous ways the resort will try to scam you into more money or 'experiences' that never live up to their price. read more

It was the worst travel experience I have had in the last decade. From the moment stepping into the resort it went from bad to worse. It look standing in line for over an hour to check-in, the food was horrible and in our experience every day about 15-20% of their already limited menu at restaurants was "sold out". Everything shut down at 11 pm and didn't resume the next morning until 11 am. Our bathing all suits were literally bleached in the hot tub and after bringing it to the hotels attention as we were concerned what might be in the chemicals they basically called us liars and told us the sun bleached our suits. We rented the presidential suit which the room Itself was beautiful. You would like for $1600/night you would get service that matched. It basically felt like we were staying at the motel 6. You are greeted with champagne and a hot towel where they pamper you all the way up to the Preferred lounge (if you booked Preferred) to finish your check-in process. They give you an overview of the food, activities, and some general info on the property. Food and Drinks: 8/10. I loved the food for the most part. Everywhere you eat, the plates are presented nicely and the food is well thought out. The servers are wonderful and make sure your drinks are full and you are enjoying your meal. Reasons why I did not give 10/10: there is often a wait at the in-demand restaurants (Blue Water Grill & Nebbiolo) and you are not allowed to take leftover food out of the restaurant. Drinks were good 95% of the time. I recommend sticking to the same server and also encourage you to try the wine & Champagne tastings (offered at an extra charge, but well worth it). Pool and Beach: 10/10. No matter where you are on the property, you will be taken good care of. I recommend going down to the beach early for a good cabana. The three different pool areas all have a different vibe, so I recommend checking each one to see what suits you. The jacuzzi is open 24/7 in case you are interested. Rooms: 10/10. The rooms are stunning. We did the Preferred Ocean View suite and a Honeymoon suite. Preferred suite has a beautiful balcony and is plenty spacious. Housekeeping takes great care of the rooms and the butler service you get with Preferred is great since they will basically handle anything you need (including unpacking/packing your suitcases). Honeymoon suite is HUGE with a GIANT balcony that wraps around the corner of the building. I would say that no matter which floor or corner of the building you get, you will have beautiful views of both the lagoon and the ocean. Only one negative comment (please read): We attempted to meet with two different Amstar reps to book excursions and both of them were less than pleasant. I am not sure when it happened, but their excursions have increased in price by almost double since I last used them a few years ago. Especially not worth it its all the attitude we received at the desk... take your business to the beach and book your excursion with Jose @ Barracuda Tours. You won't regret it. Overall: 9/10. STV is the perfect hotel if you are looking for a luxurious and relaxing vacation where all you have to do is show up and enjoy. My fellow Americans/Canadians/friends from other countries. I wrote this to help you guys out I went into a bit of detail. My experience here was great overall. If anything I would just point out a few things to improve on and I'll also mention a few things that I will compliment them on. Pros: the fact they have 3 decent sized pools to choose from is fantastic. The security here is spot on and they want to know your room number each time you come in and out including going to beach and back. Pool sized service is great, the hot tub is big in the main area, the showers in our room is huge with two shower heads, rooms are big compared to a regular room at a holiday inn. Nice view of the ocean and the laguna. The overall look inside of the resort is elegant, clean, with a fire place in the lobby and they have a coffee counter where you can order mochas, pastries, etc,during hours where the restaurants aren't ready to serve yet. They are an all-inclusive resort, and have specific hours for breakfast, lunch and dinner hence why that coffee counter helps. They have an Italian restaurant that I loved! The whole bread and olive oil, pasta, tiramisu, salmon you name it. There's another restaurant that's a grill where you can get more fish, etc. Asian restaurant that in my opinion was just ok, sushi was gross. There also is an American sports bar with hot dogs, nachos, etc with a pool table to play in lobby up the stairs. Several bars, and then if you wish to go the premier route and pay more you can get this Mediterranean restaurant and access into another pool on the 12th pool which in my opinion is lonely looking as I can see them from the floor I'm staying on. They're so far from beach, and are isolated but you do you!! They do valet parking and will park your rental car and bring it for you and park it for you all included in the price. Beach towels are provided. Order a few items from menu since portions are smaller at times. Cons: I think this con is just an overall Mexico con, the wages obviously are low here for their workers and tipping is essential if you want your stay to be perfect. Some don't tip at all, I noticed, and others tip $20 for drinks and they'll jump around at your service which sucks because I am not tipping that much for a drink, so I don't get special treatment I guess! I'd rather go get it myself to be honest. So make sure to bring many many singles. $50 in singles wasn't enough for a week for hubby and I. Make sure to bring USD with you. I would say bring at least $600 because there's activities here that are like $100 a person sometimes, like jet skiing, or visiting isla mujeres island, etc. Or use Visa, but we brought only $400USD and we had to pull money out as the souvenirs are expensive. ATM charges you $20 total for fees and if you convert to pesos expect to lose $10-20ish I believe for like $150USD to convert (why even bother unless you're going out of the resort). Our room is cleaned but not the best. I left $3 one time and room was spotless, like I shouldn't have to pay MORE than what I already paid for for a clean room. The other downfall is their drinks are weak, so ask for a double of your favorite liquor or you'll be sober the entire time. Some ladies here aren't very friendly I noticed. My hubby and I are in our late 20's/early 30's and some gals were just filled with frowns and attitudes. Words of advice: Just to know for future..... it's expensive here, not sure why I hear so many friends telling me it's cheap, it's NOT and they try to rip many people off. So bargain! Renting a car is stressful, they take a $2,500USD deposit for damages even if you bought insurance separately. They have workers who fill your car gasoline here, make sure it's set to 0.00 when they start filling it up. Don't speed.... not even 1-2KM, DONT. We got stopped for going 20km over and it's either a $100 usd ticket which we have to go to downtown Cancun to pay or give the cop money which is what we did. How much you ask? He said to me, "whatever is fine with you, is fine with me".... I gave him 200 peso and he was fine with it. Comes out to $10USD. If you can get a rental, it's a learning curve but seeing cenotes, seeing the real Mexico and getting away from the resort, was just worth the stress and anxiety I had. See tulum and playa del Carmen. Make sure to have pesos with you when you go to these towns. COVID testing is here at the resort, take it 3 days before your flight back home, you get results in 5min, and will be emailed to you within a couple hours, so you can upload it in your airline app before you arrive to airport as it takes time to process. You'll be approached by guest services that will tell you that if you watch their presentation they'll give you a free massage or activity. It's pretty much a time share, but they call it a loyalty membership or something along these lines. I don't recommend signing up for it, but get the free gift! read more

We just spent an amazing week in a preferred junior ocean front king suite and it was amazing. Our butlers, Manuel and Erik couldn't have done more to accommodate our requests, we even had a cell number for Erik so we could text or call him with any requests or issues. Manuel helped with the checkin process (floor 21, preferred VIP suite for preferred guests only with appetizers and drinks all day) and Erik was there each morning at the desk on the floor where our room was. 1. Our refrigerator wasn't cold so I mentioned it to Erik (we weren't complaining, just asked if someone could take a look at it) and by the time we got back from the pool, we had a new fridge and a complimentary bottle of wine, I'm guessing for the inconvenience which really wasn't one. Tip, leave the door to the cabinet holding the refrigerator open so it can get air. It gets too hot when the door is completely shut. Did that with the second fridge and the water and other beverages were colder. 2. Manuel asked how things were going one evening and we mentioned (again, weren't complaining, just conversational) that we had tried to make reservations for one of the restaurants but couldn't get in and asked if he could help us make our reservations for the next night, he came back with reservations for the next three nights to each of the restaurants. Not to mention it was later in the evening and he had been there all day. From day 1, Manuel and Erik knew who we were and knew and greeted us by our names. These are just a few of the examples of their commitment to excellence. Would highly suggest the preferred floors just for the personalized attention. Everyone on staff with the exception of a couple of people was so nice. Housekeeping personnel was also great. Arrange your transportation with Amstar through the resort and prepay. It was so easy, u can walk straight out of the airport without stopping to hear a sales pitch from the gauntlet of people who'll try to pull you in. Be sure to ask where to meet them when u make the reservation so u don't have to ask anyone at the airport. Amstar was amazing too. Went to the concierge's desk to make the appt for our covid tests and went ahead and made arrangements with Amstar (they have a desk next to the concierge's desk) to take us back to the airport. Had already paid so it was just a matter of coordinating it with them. Only complaint is that the AC wasn't working on the bottom floor. It was REALLY hot in the Market Cafe and lobby area. They were working on it but it was very uncomfortable. My personal favorite restaurant was the Bluewater Grill. We will definitely go back if we're able to do so. read more

We had mixed feelings about this hotel. Our vacation here got off to a rocky start, but once we figured out the lay of the land we made the most of this property. We'll share some pertinent details we wished we'd known prior to booking. Spoiler: Book a Preferred Club room!!! The BAD - We had purchased a vacation package with a standard (non-preferred) room. Shortly after arriving, we had deep regrets about booking Secrets. Immediately after checking in, we were harassed by several employees trying to sell us spa treatments, wines, excursions, and urging us to refer friends and post on social media. The pools were freezing (March) and we were informed that they are not heated. The bars had a lousy selection of alcohols and the bartenders didn't know how to make anything except the simplest of drinks. It was lunchtime, but there were already long waits at the restaurants to be seated. This was all within our first hour at the property, but luckily... Saving grace (the GOOD) - Upon recommendation from the manager, we upgraded to a Preferred Club room. WHAT A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. Dedicated check-in with no up-selling. Higher floor with a substantially upgraded room. Private heated pool. Preferred bar with premium spirits and the yummiest cocktails (they'll customize them, too, if you have a recipe in mind!). Exclusive access to Olio restaurant all day with pool-side service. Lounge access with food, bar, and coffee. If you're planning a stay at Secrets The Vine, book a Preferred Club room. The hotel doesn't do an adequate job advertising the vast benefits. If you're already booked in a standard room, request an upgrade when you get there. Other tips: Dine at Bluewater and have the rib eye steak (and beet carpaccio!). Desserts and coffee at the lobby cafe are generally better than in the restaurants. If you're preferred club, don't be shy to ask for premium spirits (e.g., Grey Goose vodka) in your drinks everywhere, such as while dining at restaurants. They'll go to the Preferred bar, if necessary, to get you what you want. Take advantage of the wine tastings. Few people show up because they lose track of time, and it's the only opportunity you'll have to drink the resort's premium wines for free. The gym is fantastic! read more

What can i say, this place is a dream. Stayed on the preferred floors for an extended weekend, which was enough time to unwind. We actually spent more time at the larger pools instead of just the preferred pool. I'm not sure it's totally necessary to pay for the extra features of the preferred but the resort is absolutely amazing. The food, the service, the view, the room... wow. Stayed here for 4 days and I have to admit it was underwhelming. I'll start with the pros: 1.security is good 2.nice views 3. Entertainment was cool Cons: 1. Food was terrible. 2. Service was VERY slow 3. Alcohol was cheap unless you upgrade to preferred room 4. Room service sucked 5. My room flooded 6.strange sewer smell on our floor 7. Housekeeping was rude and insisted we leave our room when we denied service 8. When we left the resort for dinner they tried to lock us out and say we didn't have a room 9. They will nickel and dime you for everything 10. Did I mention the food was bad? 11. After reading all the reviews I would like to first tell you that I am a world traveler who always stays at five star resorts. I live in Las Vegas and we eat at nice restaurants five times a week. The people that complain about the food here are insane. Every restaurant is wonderful food. The sushi was top shelf, the steaks the finest and the service definitely five star. The room is large, beautiful ocean views and the room service spot on. The property is gated and very safe. The drinks were delicious with quality alcohol. I have been to other secret properties this is by far the worst property they have a plumbing issue that needs to be fixed it smells like sewer Back up and sewer gases. We were up on the 21st floor and the room smelled like sewer back up and so did the hallways when we complained we then noticed a strong smell of paint upon entering our door for the next two days they were trying to hide the smell but you can smell it even at the seaside restaurant.. You're trying to sit there and order a meal and you smell disgusting sewer gases very unpleasant All of the people that work there work very hard and are very accommodating however they need to fix the smelly hotel I have a dull headache the entire vacation..This is dangerous to people's health read more

We have been back for a couple of days now and I have spent the majority of the time being depressed and figuring out how the h*ll I am going to write a review that justifies how amazing our honeymoon was. I can say this, the theme for our 8 day and 7 night stay was, "Is this real life?!" I said that to myself countless times. If I had to describe Secrets as a whole I would use the following words: opulent, high class, plush, plentiful, breath-taking, majestic, rich, luxurious, elegant, magnificent, and grand. Because of Secrets, there have been a few food items that have been ruined for me. These things include: sushi, Italian food, fish tacos, cronuts, anything salmon, mashed potatoes, deserts (of pretty much any kind), and peanuts (yes, peanuts). Because of Secrets, where ever I go to get the aforementioned food items, I know that they will pale in comparison to what I ate while on vacation here. Whenever I ate something that was just divine (which was 9.56 times out of 10) I always thought, "well, there's yet another food that will never taste as good as this" aka RUINED! Secrets also has a state of the art gym that of course offers Ocean views. The equpiment is high tech, clean, and easy to use. There are attendants who walk around and clean the equipment so you don't have to bother with it. They also offer a juice bar and fruit bar. But be careful working out here, it's so magnificent that it well, like everything else, ruin your normal experiences when you go back to your local gym. When I do cardio, i find myself just staring into the wall in front of me and mentally taking myself back to the gym with Ocean views and that is so clean you can eat your lunch off the floor. Working out = RUINED!!! The staff, oh my god, the staff. I have never, in my life, ever experienced such attention to detail in my life. We had two separate butlers; Leon during the day and Emilio (my favorite) during the night. We had someone waiting on us literally 24/7. Anything we wanted, they got for us. Even things we didn't know we wanted, they got for us. The housekeeping staff were great as well. Their attention to detail was also out of this world; "oh, I'm just going to wrap this ribbon around the toilet paper I just replaced for you." The staff in the restaurants were also top notch. We spent some time in the spa as well and the ladies who did our massages and facials were extraordinary. The room we stayed in was so grand, it blew my mind. We stayed in the master honeymoon suite and lemme tell you...it was SWEET! We were on the corner so as soon as we walked in, we had a view of the lagoon AND the Ocean. The shower could have easily fit 6 people. Oh, and did I mention that the door to ceiling glass doors slid all ALL THE WAY open so we could get a cool Ocean breeze whenever we wanted?! We were on the "preferred" level (level 21 and up) which gave us access to our own private infinity - edge swimming pool that had a view of the Ocean. Also, we had access to the "preferred" level where they have a private bar and eating area complete with gourmet snacks. They even set up a dinner on the beach for us which was SUPERB. Every night they had fun and interesting entertainment. They had everything from a circus (I know, right?!) To casino night, to the newly wed game and everything in between. The beach, my god, the beach. The sand was so white it burned my eyes when I didn't have sunglasses on. The water is so clear, you can go waist - deep and still see your feet. The cabanas were equipped with wood planking floors and crisp white fabric surrounded the exterior that shielded us from the sun. If we wanted, we could lay more towards the beach on their many lounge chairs. Worried about getting a drink? Don't worry they have concierge service that will bring you drinks at ANY time. You'll never have to get off your ass unless to go to the bathroom or take a dip into the Ocean. Now, the Ocean, or as I call it, "her Majesty", she is warm, transparent, a little moody, and is the heartbeat of our planet. I have a deeeeep respect for Her, so as soon as I saw the vibrant gradients of blue, I got really emotional. The Ocean there was majestic. One night, my husband and I laid on the beach late at night and watched a meteor shower. *sigh* Ugh, I can not tell you how perfect this place is. The people who work here bust their as*es. They do it with a smile on their faces even when people are complete ass***** to them (I witnessed this more than I care to remember). They provide 5 star service across the board. I know its expensive to stay there for most people, but remember the people who work here probably don't see any of that money you paid to stay there. Please remember that most of the people who are waiting on you hand and foot can not afford the experience that they provide to thousands of people per year. Please bring some extra cash to tip them. My wife and I chose Secrets for our honeymoon after seeing some fantastic reviews for it. Never having been to an all inclusive, my wife and I running on 4 hours of sleep from our wedding the night before arrived in Cancun and used the recommended transportation Amstar to get to the resort. Amstar was easy enough to work with and we arrived at Secrets the Vine shortly after 1:30 PM. We were greeted by a pleasant staff member who took our luggage and directed us to the check in desk. We were offered a wash cloth and some champagne while waiting to check in, a wonderful first impression! We were told we could grab lunch at the Market Cafe while waiting for our room to be ready (check in is at 3:00 PM). We ended up not being able to check in until a little after 4 which was disappointing as we were tired and ready to crash. Our floor's concierge Gabriela ended up taking us up to our room once it was ready. Needless to say, she was phenomenal at doing anything and everything she could go above and beyond to take care of us. We ended up ordering room service twice for breakfast through her which is an absolute must when you stay here! The food here was all very satisfying, but not incredible. They had such a wonderful variety at the restaurants to appease anyone. We loved the Italian, Steak, and Asian cuisines and weren't too fond of the Mediterranean one. Portion sizes are excellent for the meals and you get a chance to try a plethora of different options. The sports bar had some fairly decent food as well, especially if bar food is your go to. For drinks, many of them aren't as strong as you are used to which is good and bad. For being as hot as it is most of the time, it's good to be able to drink more and not be crushed. From wanting a nice drink, it's less ideal in that it isn't necessary what you are used to. Our go to bars were the lobby bar with Miguel and Omar as well my personal favorite, the premium lounge on the 21st floor with Yolanda. Yolanda Made some incredible mojitos, martinis, and margaritas! Even though she didn't speak as much English as some of the other staff, her personality and service made our time there wonderful. The room and it's view was incredible! We had a beautiful view of the lagoon and the ocean from our room on the 26th floor. Our fridge was stocked with coke products, mini liquor bottles, and corona along with some snacks of peanut butter M & Ms and Pringles. The room was serviced twice a day which included a nighttime turn down service. The shower was a nice walk in double headed shower. Overall, the staff here is really what made this a wonderful stay. Everyday, there were activities to do provided by the entertainment staff. We ended up playing beach volleyball, ping pong, pool volleyball, casino night (with the lovely Irene!), Texas hold em and participating in wine tastings, comedy shows, and DJ dance parties. The entertainment staff of Miguel, Anna, and Ariel did a wonderful job of keeping everyone entertained! For sure, it is the staff which makes this place so wonderful and sitting here 2 weeks removed from my stay I can still rattle off their names by memory. You will not be disappointed by staying here. It is a very relaxing time with too much food to eat in one week. We never found ourselves bored and wanting to go on an excursion. The resort always had some sort of entertainment going on that peeked our interest. The food although not knocking you off your feet was still extremely tasty. Pros: great security entering and exiting property, beach area had police and military driving/walking through. staff provided top notch customer service, food was good for the most part. Aldo our butler was was AWESOME! Free bottle of liquor with our preferred room. Bars had mid to top shelf liquor (this was a super pro for me). Cons: AC wasn't working properly in our room. When we had it fixed we assume housekeeping turned it off. We couldn't get it back on (our room temp averaged 74 degrees). Finally had it fixed our last full day (we put our do not disturb sign on our door so housekeeping wouldn't enter). Overall the hotel was warm where ever went and the smell in the main level was awful at times. Service was slow at the restaurants and room service was horrible. Don't bother getting ribs or steak. They will be tough (especially if you order room service). We had preferred status, but I honestly think it was a waste of extra money. The preferred pool area was small, the preferred lounge was overcrowded and no bartender was available one night. The two butlers were busy checking in customers. Restaurants closed early. They had one buffet (wish they had at least two). Entertainment was ok. Beach was really small. I don't think I will be back. If the resort was larger I definitely would consider it. read more

This is hands down one of my favorite hotels I've been to in all of Mexico, and I've probably been to about 40 of them (I do site visits as part of my job). It opened in August of 2012, so it's very new and modern. When I say modern, I mean it in the best way possible; it uses lot of raw materials, but still makes it very cozy, warm and welcoming. It's not like that old Saturday Night Live skit where they all hang out in absurdly, uncomfortable, useless furniture. :) In most all-inclusive hotels, I expect mediocre food and awful wine. Since this has a "vine" theme, they offer 5 red wines, versus the standard Secrets selection of 3. They have free wine tasting at 1pm and 3pm as well! So far, I've had amazing goat, pork, octopus ceviche, poc chuc, ahi tuna, seafood skewers (with the best muscles I've had in a long time), and of course great tortilla chips and guacamole. Actually, I shouldn't say of course... The Hard Rock hotel next door, despite being in Mexico, may have the worst tortilla chips ever. I'd rather have stale, rubbery tostidos than those chips! The rooms are clean, elegant, and comfortable, with views of ocean or lagoon. The pools are all great temperature and infinity-like. There are chairs available after 11am, even when the hotel is at full capacity. There is entertainment, but not the obnoxious kind. They have water aerobics, which is my favorite activity ever. The live band they had on the beach was great too! The staff couldn't be friendlier. Oh, and the gym that is on the 12th floor that is HUGE and overlooks the ocean. It's dreamy!! The spa was amazing as well. I recommend the "vine" special. I thought it would be wimpy, fancy hotel like, but it was wonderful. For sports lovers, they have the "half-time" sports bar, with pool table and all. There is a piano bar that is open late and also has live entertainment here and there. All in all, I felt pampered, pampered, pampered. It's an adults only, but you can come solo. I came solo, and it was not full of honeymooners making out. There is plenty to do and see, to keep you entertained. I highly recommend! read more

They thought of EVERYTHING! Property: From the little welcome kit to the turn down service, the relaxing music playing in the room when you first walk in, shower cap in the bathroom! (maybe this is only appreciated by people like me with crazy hair when it gets wet...). Nice balconies that face the water (whether partial sea view or completely waterfront). The bathroom downstairs is spacious calming, and has towels to dry hands on instead of paper towels. All of these little touches really make a world of difference. They have a photography center onsite if you want pictures to remember. Food: Usually I'm not impressed buffet food but their buffet restaurant Market Cafe was wonderful! Portions were small but I was glad. It meant I was able to try everything and not be overly full. The churro chocolate stand was heavenly. Samuel from Nebbiolo made my time the best. My last night there he gave me the best seat in the place by the window. I came on business and was there alone so usually romantic Italian restaurants make me feel awkward if I'm by myself but he went out of his way to make sure I was comfortable there bravo. Greek restaurant Olio on the 12th floor was delicious. Sea Salt grill had the best ceviche and chicken. So incredibly flavorful. Amenities: I used the business center a lot for work and even with only 2 computers, I never once had to wait. No extra expense, all complimentary. Quick and efficient wi-fi. The keyboard placement of the letters is a little different from what we have in the states but you get used to it. There's Spanish classes offered, a chess board randomly by the jacuzzi, water aerobics, and beach volleyball. So many things to do while you're here you really don't have to leave the resort. They had a comedy show at the Piano bar one of the nights I was there but I was too tired to attend. 3 pools in the same area to choose from (a more quiet one), and two with music and by a bar each. You will not go thirsty here people! Service: THIS is what will separate a good hotel from an OK or decent resort. Most resorts have good food and nice accommodations with a view. What really sets this place apart is the service offered by all of their staff members. From the cool towel you're given upon arrival in addition to your welcome champagne glass for you to sip on while waiting to check in. They thought of everything. I tell you what, when you're waiting in line to check in, it sucks a LOT less when you have champagne in hand ;-) Like I said earlier, Sam from Nebbiolo is fabulous. As is Ana from the entertainment by the pool. Her positivity is contagious and you can't help but smile when you're around here. If you'd like pictures of yourself (they have staff here who are willing to assist and are surprised when you give them a tip. They certainly don't expect it and go the extra mile anyway!). Location: Prime location here on the Hotel zone strip. Close to nightlife like Coco Bongo, close (literally a few steps) from the beach, and a short $1 USD public bus ride to anywhere on the strip, including the shopping area. I've been to several all inclusive resorts in the Cancun area, this was by far the best. It was truly 5 star from the moment I walked in to the moment I left. We came for our honeymoon, and opted for the "premium package, which got you a butler, room on a higher floor and your own elevator with a bar area full of snacks and drinks and our OWN pool. I would suggest upgrading for the better view alone! our view was stunning from the 18th floor. Check in- Staff welcomes you with a glass of champagne and a hot towel that smells of eucalyptus, they show you around to grounds,talk about the different restaurants then show up stairs for check-in. Our check in went very smoothly. They do have vacation club, which they ask you to visit shortly after your visit. We stopped by the day after our check-in, it took 20 mins. It is NOT a time share presentation or anything like that. We told them we weren't interested and it was over. Just like that back to our amazing stay. The Beach- One of the BEST locations in Cancun, next to the Ritz Carlton and The Hard Rock. We could always hear the "party vibe" from Hard Rock but it was never overwhelming or super loud. Get there early to get a good spot, also make sure you tip the guy giving out umbrellas, he WILL remember you the next day. lol. They have servers, but I can be a little show if the beach is packed, no worries their have 2 full bars near the pool area if you need something asap. Water is crystal clear, an beautifully warm. Vendors due walk around but they don't bother you, like at other beaches in the area. We actually got some cute stuff from those vendors too! The Pool- or should I stay Pools, amazing! I'm more of a beach girl, but they have 2 pools in the main area with more than enough space, and a ledge for lounge chairs in the water. Very Cool. FOOD- In Caps because it's all inclusive. They have a Sports bar, Patio bar/club, Mexican (Market Café), Asian (Dragons Oriental Dining), Steak (Bluewater Grill), Italian (Nebbiolo Ristorante), Mediterranean (Olio) and Seafood (Sea Salt Grill). We had greats meals everywhere, but our favorites were Bluewater Grill and Dragons. Olio is only open to preferred member during lunch, which is nice if it gets busy other places. Breakfast is at the Market Cafe, and consisted of a large varaity of food, inlcuding fresh fruit, bagels, potatoes, etc. TIP - They have a someone to help you book trips in the lobby, instead of trusting the people out on the street or beach, go meet with them. TIP - the Patio/Wine bar turns into club at night, it's fun! TIP- GO during a Holiday. We went during July 4th and it was great, they had a huge party with fireworks and a BBQ! Decided to celebrate our 42 anniversary here based on my older son's recommendation. Hit a home run. Place is awesome, from the service to the food. For airport transfers used Tranfers USA. Prepaid $55. Met at airport by a company rep with a sign with my name on it. Easy no hassle. Our driver even stopped for us to take a pic of welcome to cancun sign. Arrival at hotel greeted with a cold towel and champagne. Taken to our floor and met by our floor butler. Pay the extra $ for the preferred area. Worth it. For breakfast go to the market cafe. Sit in Yuseef's table area. Great service. The place is clean, plenty of appetizing food. So much to choose from. You won't be diisappointed. My favorite places to eat Olio, Bluewater Grill and Nebbiolo. Our last breakfast was romantic room service champagne with all the trimmings. I love being pampered. Highly recommend this place. Forget Puna Cana and go to Cancun. My younger one came here back in the late 90's while in HS and hung out with one of his buddies. You may have heard of him Channing Tatum!
