Scammers. Similar to Jacks review, they bump the rent shortly after moving in. They send an email stating periodically they need to raise rent but it's not complex wide, it's just for the new customers who they can scam after you already moved in all your stuff. When it was El Camino Self Storage we had a unit for almost 2 years before rent was raised. When the elevator is "out of service" they could easily send a generic email so customers dont waster their time, Nope. Employees hop around to the different corporate locations, they know little about specifics. The 2nd floor units are not secure, they use a concrete style building mesh for the "roof" of the units, meaning the unit next to yours could pour, drop or toss anything they want through the "ceiling". I've been a customer here for a little over a month. They lured me in with an attractive monthly rate, but I was barely moved in when they raised my rates. Nice predatory business practice, Securcare. I'd also add that access to the storage units is awkward and inconvenient through a slow and small elevator. Consider going elsewhere. read more

He has such a great attitude - everyone should have an employee like Eli - he cares so much about us customers, is so knowledgeable & helpful, answered all questions, was so patient, and such an honest person. When I had a issue, I worked with Yarlet, & after some back & forth, all went far more better than my expectations! The place is very convenient, with all 10x10 units on 1st floor, & 10x23 & above on 2nd floor. They have a big elevator & loading dock area with huge dolly-cart things to load up. They had a buy 1 month, get 1/2 off 2nd month deal that's really great & saves money! Good place - and Eli, you will always be successful with your amazing attitude! read more

They just updated their access hours and they now close at 545 on weekends. Yelp says 6. I was busting my butt to get here for a quick pickup and arrived at 546 to find it closed. It's been pretty hard to get here during their hours of operation as it is and now they're closed even earlier?? Saw a good deal for first month free and completed the online form for a reservation and scheduled it to start a month in the future. Got an email asking me to finalize the reservation, and the email confirmed the date that I selected.The email said I had to add payment info to finalize the reservation. I entered my credit card info, and then the lease agreement popped up, but the start date was today, not the date that I selected in the reservation form which was a month later. Therefore I did not sign the lease, which was the final step of the process. However, my credit card was still charged, even though I never got any email or online confirmation from them that I was charged. I assumed this was a simple mistake and called into the office and asked them to change the date to the date I selected on my reservation form, and they REFUSED. They told me that they always just start the lease the day you fill out the form, and the reservation date you select has no impact. I reiterated that I did not sign the lease but they didn't seem to care. They said the date you select in the reservation form doesnt matter. I finally got the call escalated to two different reps after I told them I was contesting the charges and leaving bad reviews online and they agreed to refund me. Such a poor customer experience. I'm going to pay more at cubesmart to not have to deal with such a bad company. read more

El Camino Self Storage will raise your rent regularly once you get beyond the 12 month "introductory" rate. I have been on auto-pay the entire time I've had a storage unit. No problems from me ever. However, I've had my monthly rent raised twice within the last 6 months. The first time in was a 30% jump, second time about 8%. They let you get in, get comfortable, begin to rely on the space, then they jack up the rates. AVOID. The facilities are fine, hours not the best, but manageable. If they rewarded loyal tenants rather than preyed on them it would be an ideal situation. 7/9/19 update: So the owner is saying that raising the rent, which is now close to 100% more than my introductory rate, is due to increases in overhead costs. Doesn't pass the smell test when the same size space I rent is available NOW in their facility for almost 50% less than what I currently pay. It's a simple matter of taking advantage of the customer. Even worse, taking advantage of long term customers. read more

This is more of a service announcement than a review. But, I think it's kind of important, seeing as I've been looking for a place like this for years. El Camino Self Storage has an E-Recycling Center that is open year-round. I don't think a weekend goes by where I don't look at a pile of old computer parts and equipment by the door and tell myself that that weekend is the weekend when I finally get rid of all of that junk. In contrast, I don't think there's a sign advertising free e-recycling that I don't either snap a picture of or put a reminder in my phone for (and subsequently ignore) to ensure that I remember to load up my truck and make a visit. Well, this storage place, tucked behind an L.A. Fitness in the very back of typically empty shopping center, is home to a dumping ground for all of that crap that has been collecting dust in your garage ever since you first threw your broken Commodore 64 in the corner. "What is this? E.T. for the Atari 2600? Should I get rid of this?" Yes, you should. No, it won't eventually go up in value. Ever heard of emulators on your PC? Recycle all of that crap, my fellow Yelpers. You don't need those three projection screen TV's stacked up in the den now that you have a few flat screens. You're never going to get that old laptop fixed and it looks ugly serving as a stand for your new monitor anyway. And for god's sake, no one wants to play your Sega Genesis with you; no one cares if you can beat Mortal Kombat and you have to blow in the cartridges to make them work anyway. Recycle it. All of it. Zero stars should be available to indicate this business is not worthy of your time, money nor trust. Probably the worst run business I have come across in several years. In addition to very poor customer service, there may be some serious violations of local and state business laws occurring here. You may be enticed by a lower price. By the time they finish adding on extra fees, you will not be saving any money. There are better options from much more professionally managed businesses that work hard to treat customers with respect, and fulfill their commitments to you. Spent several hours at storage unit and needed to use the restroom, woman with short blonde hair looked at me strange when I tried to access from the office from inside the building - spent about 25 minutes waiting out front knocking and ringing the buzzer with no answer. When I asked if they had a restroom for customers to use she began to tell me that it is NOT for customers but that she'll let me use it "because I am a woman". She then went on to tell me that it's not for public use because "men defecate all over the place" and suggested that she didn't want to clean up after them. I disappointingly found out that I am an exception as she's prevented other women in my family from using it before and sent them to the nearby gym, which has a strict no-members policy. Great customer service practice. Sexist and lazy if I ever heard it, especially at a facility that people pay to use and generally spend many hours at. I feel sorry for all the nice people who use the storage unit who that manager clearly judges based on gender (and who knows what else), and for the company who daily decides to employ a woman like that as the face of their storage facility. read more

Is it too much to ask to have a functional keypad to get in and out? Not only do they have the stupidity to have the keypad on wrong side of car so you have to get out of car and walk around when entering, but you can't possibly use without getting out of car even when exiting - IF you can get in or out. The keypad is some piece of crap like you've never seen (thank God) that gives no feedback sound/indication on some buttons and no as in NO tactile feel so you have keep guessing if you actually got it "pressed" . Oh, did I mention that unlike any other storage I've used/ seen where gate opens when leaving you have to get out of your car to mess with keypad just to get out? Clearly the owners don't give a damn about their customers. read more

I just showed up to pick up their moving truck for my reserved time, which I booked a week ago. I arrived and spoke with Krista who was extremely rude and unhelpful. I told her I had reserved the truck through her Carlsbad location and she gave me a blank stare like she had no idea what I was talking about. I then asked if they were affiliated and she said yes but someone had rented the truck this morning. I told her I booked it last weekend and even called their office and spoke to a Daniel to confirm the time as I knew it would be later than they normally rent the truck. He had assured me that as long as we returned by 5:30pm it would be fine. She rudely responded that no one worked there by the name Daniel. I understand that she could not make a truck appear out of no where but please do not insult me by implying I don't know what I'm talking about or that I didn't speak to anyone. Obviously I spoke with someone or else I would not have known the time, address, price or even that they were affiliated with the Carlsbad Airport Storage. With no apology or sympathy for the confusion or the inconvenience we left and had to frantically find a Uhaul facility that would rent to us this late in the day, which is more expensive and defeats part of why we even chose this facility to store our things in as we were under the impression that this was an added benefit. I definitely would not recommend this facility or if it's necessary that you do I would highly recommend you ask to work with someone other than Krista otherwise you can expect rude and unhelpful service. read more

Do not rent here. I was a tenant for 8yrs. Too lazy to move but should have long ago. New management raised by storage fee $14 a month without notification as they mandate automatic payment. Not big money but without notification is really criminal. Now after 8yrs as a tenant that never complained, they give me 20 days notice in the mail that they are remodeling and I will need to move. I'm moving alright, to a place that is properly managed. Will never rent again from this company or it's affiliates. Tim, you're an idiot, I hope you are soon fired. read more

This seems to be an honest business. The employees have been very friendly and helpful. I found the "free" truck useful (not actually free- $20 for insurance was required) although the truck had a hole in the roof which got some of my stuff a little wet from the rain. (What is the insurance for if they aren't going to repair the truck, I ask?) The storage space seems clean and dry and I feel pretty comfortable about leaving my belongings there. My only real gripe is that their business hours don't seem especially long (I'd have it open earlier... and for longer on Sunday) and they appear to be closed on a lot of holidays. People move on weekends and on holidays and not having full access to their storage units at these times is rather inconvenient. read more

This was some of the BEST Customer Service I have ever had! Alyssa was emailing with me about maybe 10 emails at least with all my questions - so quick to respond and SO helpful! Then once I was there is was Krista who got me all set up and she is a PRO!! Her owners should give this woman a raise because I could not believe how well she ran me through so much information and it was speedy but thorough. She is funny and polite and very organized. The manager Tricia Baker gave me a price of $29.99 for 1 month ( I have this info on email) I emptied out my storage after 22 days, they wanted to charge me another $36.26, I had my items there for less than one month. The manager was obnoxious and rude and threaten to call the police on me if I didn't pay the remaining balance, she also said she was recording my conversation, unreal. Her billing practices appear to be shady and unfair in my opinion, Apparently she is also the owner, It's no wonder the storage place is so EMPTY there's no one there, also she has a huge turnaround and their billing tactics are questionable according to a comment one of her employer made to me. read more

They worked to assist me with removing a fee and also scheduling their truck to help with my move out of their facility which is greatly appreciated. Also offered additional suggestions as the consignment store and computer equipment, thank you. This is how business should be conducted and I hope we all learned from this. I can only upgrade to 3 stars as I feel personally it is youth at work here and not experience, experience would have treated this differently out of the gate. I never really noticed that there was a storage facility right behind my gym (LA fitness), since I'm moving to a smaller house I needed to find a place to put all my extra stuff before deciding on what to do with it. When I went in I noticed how big it was and even though their prices were a bit higher that some other places I looked into at least they gave me the full price upfront including insurance and admin fee, no extra surprise fees. Luz showed me unit and reserved it for me at no cost while I was still shopping around! When I went back Krista helped me wit the paperwork and she took the time to explain to me the entire process. I had four units at this facility until two days ago when I had the incredibly unpleasant experience of dealing with Tim. What an incredible jerk. He was so intolerably rude. He made numerous insulting comments to me when I was trying to fix his mistakes i.e. double charging on a unit that had a ongoing monthly debit set up. I asked him if there was anyone else I could work with to fix his mistakes and he hung up on me. Congratulations Tim, your direct actions lost you four units I have had at El Camino Storage for over eight years. read more

The new management particularly Tim have been extremely uncooperative. They had leaks and caused damage to some property. Thenthey said that they can't file a claim because of the change in ownership. Made a "deal' to take 20% off my rent for 6 months (nowhere near the damage amount) and then it took 2 months to process the adjustment. Finally they mistakenly charged me $23.45 for something that had nothing to do with me. For 3 months I've been trying to get my money. They charged it to my credit card but they can't process a credit???!!!??? I've heard every excuse in the book and after waiting a week and a half for Tim to speak with his district manager, I called today and he said the district mgr was there and he would speak with him. I told him to let me speak with the D.M. who apparently did not want to speak. Tim said he would review my account and figure out what to do. When I asked what he had to review and what he has done for 3 months, he told me he was trying to help me and take care of this. When asked again what he had to do and why it was taking 3 months, he had no answer other than he had 800 accounts to handle. I asked him if he had 800 errors and there wasn't any answer to that. I'd be real careful before doing business with this place. All this over a wrong charge and a refusal to refund my money. read more

This is an excellent storage facility with outstanding, friendly staff. We have an RV stored here and feel completely at ease with the security of the facility. We have had nothing but excellent interactions with Tim, who has been very helpful from our first encounter. When the first space we had turned out to be a problem for us, Tim very graciously moved us to a spot that was easier for us to maneuver our RV in and out. I have also observed him on more than one occasion deal diplomatically with a difficult customer. The green e-waste drop-off brings in a lot of people, some of whom aren't all that easy to deal with (they get annoyed about the location of the drop-off bin, etc). It's hard for me to imagine Tim ever being rude -- he's exactly the kind of can-do manager I would want if it were my business. Because of the excellent service we have received and the flexibility Tim extended to us, we have recommended this facility to another group that subsequently rented a large exterior storage unit. They, too, have nothing but good things to say about the facility in general and Tim in particular. read more
