Phone line personnel barely speak English, insist on trying to endlessly upsell, and refuse to process direct requests to move out and close accounts. No, I don't want a $100 gift. I want to move out. No, I don't want coupons to Walmart. I. Want. To. Move. Out. The website makes it difficult to move out, or manage payment - with key functions present but unselectable. BUYER BEWARE. Public Storage increases its rates constantly by $50 or more a month at a time and they never have any carts available when you go to transfer items from car to storage unit. I moved into the Carlsbad facility in March 2025 with a rate of $149. In July they raised it to $195 just four months after moving in, and today (December 2025) I got an email saying they are now increasing it to $249 effective January 1, 2026. This is highway robbery and an 83% increase in nine months for the same unit. Terrible business read more

When I asked them about it, they said that is part of their business practice as public storage and it must be because my unit was more in demand. if you have a customer who is paying every month on time, I think you should treat them with a little more courtesy and consideration. Initially all is good. People are helpful and nice. Spaces are clean and units maintained. What to beware of: Hours-They post that they are open until 9pm. I have gone twice at 730pm and could not access the property. This is a real issue. The prices go up drastically and they sell low and then jack up pricing. I have to add to my review that all of you should consider using U-Haul in Carlsbad, just off of Palomar Airport Rd. (6175 Paseo Del Norte Carlsbad, CA 92011). It's AMAZING. They won't screw with your prices or your items. They have the cleanest storage area I've ever used, and Sonya and the team there are just amazing. Plenty of carts. Great hours. All fenced in and the units are CLEAN and maintained daily. ... and no, this is not a paid promotion of U-Haul in Carlsbad. It's just a great place and I've been using them for about 25 years now and NEVER had issues there. Ever. As for Public Storage?? Ha. What a joke. They have so many theft issues that they have to use a huge chain to lock down the two little courtesy carts they have for this HUGE building. That place is dank. You can tell some of the units had been broken open, which is easy to do. No one really monitors the inside hallways here... .UNLESS you open a door to use their restroom. Then you'll get a visit from the manager and get scolded for opening the back door. UGH (yes, it happened) To add, someone rammed the security gate and it was just OPEN for a month. With the help of Manager Daniella, the storage unit was flooded with water after the fire department came to put out the fire. Half of my stuff was ruined and with the Daniella help she moved my unit to another which was safer and not under the soak units. The staff of workers moved all my items and help clean my plastic boxes. I've been a member for seven years and would recommend this storage facility 100%. Public Storage even helped me during COVID with lowering my premiums for one year. PS very understanding business. Thank you Daniella for everything. Your service was truly appreciated. The people in the front are nice, but this company is notorious for bofait and switch. They lure you in with cheap rates, and then proceed to increase the rates even as they continue to advertise the same low rates online. They bumped my rate to over $500 while advertising a rate for $300 for new customers. I will never do business with this company again. Shady AF. read more

DISHONEST Public Storage (Corte del Alberto, Carlsbad) Less then 2 years ago (May 2021) I rented a 5x5 cubicle for $90. After a few months an additional charge of $15/month charge was added due to "Insurance". Despite the fact that my account's autopayment has always been activated (and my credit card remained the same), this month I received a strange message from Public Storage stating: "Your payment is due now. Please pay now of you may incur additonal charges". Public Storage's website had a promotional statement about auto-pay: "Activate auto-payment and you can win $1000" Public Storage was REALLY TRYING TO HIDE IN A DISHONEST WAY, that: REACTIVATE YOUR AUTO-PAY, BECAUSE WE ARE SNEAKING IN ANOTHER HIDEN FEE OF $15MONTH, DUE TO "FEES/OTHER". Having a price hike of 33% in less then 2 years, is not good. Having your belongings stored with a business that incurns on shady business practices is much worse. If i could give zero stars i would. This place flooded the units about three months and half of my stuff was ruined. The insurance that they require you have is a joke. They want receipts of purchased items in order to cover them and most of our stuff was artwork, canvasas, business stuff ect that we purchased years ago along with a lot of family memorabilia. I just got a call that they were testing the fire sprinklers and flooded our unit again. Twice now. We have to go down there and see what was ruined. We pay over a 100 dollars per month for nothing. I asked them if their job was to protect the items being stored and the snotty manager told me it wasn't. Then what exactly is the job of a storage company? Place just had a huge fire. Sprinklers went off everywhere. I was not notified. I only found out about it when I happened to stop by and saw the commotion. Stuff completely covered in mold. There were corporate people there but they are not helpful and rude. My last storage was over run with vermin and had to throw away all my furniture. I can't believe this happened again. Their insurance for vermin and fungus only covers $250 but the deductible is $150. So you get $100 to cover all your stuff. Avoid Public Storage at all cost. Avoid this storage facility! There are so many better facilities at better costs in surrounding area. Here are the reasons for my 1 star and if I could this would be a zero. Please read before committing. The only way to keep these corporates in check is to give honest reviews and assist future customers from getting treated poorly. 1.) In 18 months my rate went from $118 for a 5X10 to $224. The final straw was when they raised me from $187 to $224. 2.) Facility is rarely staffed. Customer service is uncooperative. 3.) Elevators are constantly not functioning 4.) Not enough push carts 5.) Facility is like a maze with homeless wandering around. Had a moment where a strange woman was riding her bike thru the hallways whistling one evening. CREEPY! 6.) Finally and this is the KICKER! Upon move out I gave them proper 2 day notice per the contact and swept out unit. The unit was empty on Feb.1st and when they still automatically withdrew the $224 I complained and was told I would be charged for full month and no pro ration. The 2nd KICKER was when they told I told them I would be moving some stuff back in for the month since I paid for it. I was told that was not possible as the unit has been advertised and my gate code cancelled. Obviously this whole experience has made me angry and frustrated. If you do read this and still rent a unit from this facility, when they do you like they did me don't say you were not warned. read more

Tracy in the front office of the public storage in carlsbad was super friendly and very helpful in getting my access code to work again. I had my stuff in an indoor 5x10 and found the who facility to be very secure, modern, and clean. One time I even locked my unit open, and they noticed that day while making the rounds, and called to let me know. I have moved around a bit now, and have had my stuff in three different public storage facilities, which have all been great so far. read more

This storage here is pretty simple to access as long as you have the code and plenty of parking when coming during weekday late afternoon. I could feel this place is pretty secured, especially if you're on the second floor, since the elevator is only accessible if you have your own code, and the first floor too. The inside is really clean too so storing things here are really nice. They've got pretty good online deals that going in-store so definitely make sure to check online. But they do charge a bit more that what the online mentions, such as insurance, locks, etc., which is one of the reasons why I couldn't give it a 5-star. Another reason is because their office says they close at 6 pm but no one was there for us to actually borrow a dolly when we were there at 5 pm; so we ended up having to make multiple trips by carrying boxes from our cars to the storage on the second floor. It took us about 30 mins to deal with that. So make sure to try going there during morning and afternoon (before 4 pm) if you need a dolly and expect extra fees coming in than you thought you'd be paying. read more

Horrid experience and it's still occurring. DAY 1 - Staff didn't show up on time for an appointment I was required to make with them. I sat in my car trying to call number to location. No cell service. No WiFi. Finally she came to the door and I thought it was the janitor. She was short with me, not very helpful. I was tired from packing and just went along with it to get out of there. She was pressuring me to purchase their REQUIRED cylinder lock to secure my unit. I knew I had one at home so I told her I was going to come the following day with my lock when I move into the unit with my hired movers. She made me sign several digit forms that were pages and pages long on a tiny machine unit screen that was a little bigger than the size of an iPhone. Small letters and pages and pages. As I started to read them she became impatient and told me that people don't read it they just sign it. There was no way I could stand there and read this entire 15 page contract on this little device so I signed it and signed here and signed there. I paid for the unit. I never received a copy of what I signed. Not physical, not email, nothing. At the time I figured a copy would be sent to my email where I could read it when it was clearly legible without pressure. There's no WiFi or cell service there at all. We went up to the unit and I saw that the unit was empty and there were no locks on the unit. I let her know that I would be back the following day with my lock and movers to move in. DAY 2 - I arrived with movers about 6pm. No staff in the office. I had the movers load all of my belongings at my storage unit and then I intended to open the unit and organize. As I tried to open the door - the unit now had a tiny yellow cylinder lock on it, visibly smaller than a quarter. Turns out, The girl locked the unit with their lock after I left the evening prior.. YES this happened after I let her know I would be back the following day with my lock and movers. NO AFTER HOURS EMERGENCY NUMBER. NO CELL SERVICE. NO WIFI. NO STAFF TO ASSIST ME ON PROPERTY. NOTHING. I WAS alone in a large cold building. I HAD TO LEAVE MY BELONGINGS THERE SINCE THE MOVERS HAD TO LEAVE. IT WAS A ONE WAY TRIP I PAID FOR. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO LEAVE MY BELONGINGS IN THE HALLWAY OUTSIDE MY STORAGE UNIT THAT I PAID FOR BECAUSE IM NOW LOCKED OUT. I left the property and had to go about a quarter of a mile out to call the property. I called more than a dozen times. Someone answered every time and I could hear them wrestling in the background but nobody talked. They stayed silent until I hung up. This went on for hours until I gave up. COMPLETELY NON RESPONSIVE. I could not believe the lack of service and integrity of this business. I called the 800 number and she told me they should not have put a lock on my unit and she put in a "request" for the lock to be removed the next morning. Meanwhile all of my belongings are there for anyone who wants to pick through it. Nobody at Public Storage even cared about my belongings. DAY 3 - 8:45am Still no response from Public Storage. I called corporate to complain and corporate told me that they "helped me" by securing my unit with their lock the night prior (after I clearly told her I would be back the next day to move in and bring my lock). It was an empty storage unit they put a lock on. EMPTY!! They kept trying to tell me it was to help me. Everyone's on drugs over there. . Nobody cares to delegate responsibility for fuc$ing me over. They gladly took my money. Customer service is a flat out joke. Corporate is just as cold and useless and their staff. There's no reasoning here why they have a logical reason do this to people. It's disgusting. My advice is to purchase a storage unit somewhere else that has staff to help and reciprocate and do good things for their patrons. Cardiff storage was always awesome. They always responded after hours with any issues at all. I had adequate cell service and WiFi for emergencies. I never had to call corporate or even had any issues. I was taken care of and valued. My belongings were always secure and I could count on them. Save yourself some grief and rent somewhere else. A complete joke. I never dreamed of such a crooked storage business. If you think it won't happen to you, don't dismiss it so easily. They hung up on me 12 times when I was in distress. Corporate told me they "helped me". It's now almost 10am and still no call from anyone or any type of sign of relief. My belongings are still locked out of my unit just sitting there. Pretty sad. I'll be out of there before the months end and into a different storage company. This will cost me more in movers fees and time off work. No more. Moving is stressful enough. just Horrid read more
