When my parents told me that their hard drive "crashed" and that it make a "loud" sound , I was almost sure that it was a mechanical failure. I was sick to my stomach when they informed me that they NEVER backed-up their data. Especially considering this is a computer that they use in running their business (alas, sometimes you have to learn things the hard way)! So after much Googling, I discovered that Secure Data Recovery services (among a slew of companies) seemed to have the best reputation for recovering information from physically damaged hard drives (note: I took the hard drive to a BestBuy first, on the slim hope that it was a software issue--they confirmed that it was mechanical). Like many companies, Secure Data Recovery offered free diagnostics/quote. But the most important thing to me was the 100% data guarantee: if they don't recover your data, you don't pay. Also, before you pay, they have this really smart file directory browser that allows you to see every directory and file that they were able to recover, and what files they were not able to recover (if applicable). In our case, they were able to recover ~97% of our data. Only a few mp3s were lost (and these were easily recoverable from other sources). All of our business information, photos, Office documents, tax info, etc. was recovered! What a relief!!!!! Throughout the process, my contact, Chris McMacken (hope you don't mind the shoutout!) was awesome. He kept me continually updated about the progress of data recovery via e-mail and phone, provided shipping info, and described how media would be delivered. The website is excellent--lots of explicit information; and contacting real people on the phone was never a problem. My 1 year old Mac computer's software went corrupt causing the hard drive to destroy 90% of my photos and all of my videos and I took tons! A year of my son's life vanished before my eyes. We searched data recovery companies and decided Secure Date Recovery was the best route as they have the highest success rates, great team, trustworthy, and fair. They were easy to contact and my hard drive was shipped for free overnight where they started analyzing it immediately. Mitchell Moore was fantastic. We communicated with him and he kept us informed about each step and didn't do anything without our consent. Secure Data Recovery Services saved our bacon! It wasn't until a hard drive failed that we realized our cloud backup service was not properly backing up our Quickbooks accounting software. We were freaked! First, we called Al Williams at NC Computer Tech. As soon as he determined that the drive failed because of mechanical issues, he recommended we use Secure Data to try to retrieve our files.
