Getting fitted for contacts has always been a nightmare, but I had a great experience at See! The eye doctor who checked my vision was thorough, nice, and patiently answered all of my questions (wrote two referrals, good product recommendations, worked with front desk to resolve an insurance question on the spot.) The people working up front were really accomadating once I mentioned I was on lunch break, and made sure I was in and out on time. Also free water bottles. read more

The last 2 pairs of glasses I've gotten there, I've had to send back to be redone. I've been wearing progressive lenses for 30 years and I have a complicated prescription. I've probably been wearing progressives longer than the manager of the store has been alive. She tries telling me that "you have to get used to them". Aargh. I know the minute I put them on that they are wonky. Don't tell me I have to get used to them. Seriously? When things are wavy and I feel like I'm in a funny house of mirrors......both times they were redone they were done correctly. Why can't they get it right the first time? My experience at See was very interesting. The staff has changed since the last time I was there. The first sales associate I meet wasn't very nice seemed like he had an attitude, and acted like a snob. He also provided me with the wrong information about getting an appointment with the eye doctor. Once i was able to see the doctor it was smooth sailing from there on. I lost my glasses a week ago, and I've been half blind. I've also been having a really hard time finding a non-hipster but also not-boring pair of glasses in and around Georgetown and DC. I went to Lens-crafters in town, and their stock was incredibly disappointing, their store, staff fairly underwhelming, and several places in Georgetown including Georgetown optical (which isn't bad). I struggled to get the right shape for me - I've got an angular guys face and light complexion). Then I found SEE eyewear- I was sold 5 minutes from walking in. Great store, service & great brand! For a difficult buyer like me, I've never had a more pleasant experience in purchasing eyewear. Best secret they don't openly advertise... is that their single focal prescription lenses are included in their price - yes, they're FREE (for now)! So this means I decided to get 2 pairs for the same price as 1 - under $700 including anti-reflective coating (otherwise would have only been $500). Quotes I got every where else were $700+ for just 1 pair. Their styles are great and on trend, great quality - they really understand what people need. They also had my prescription expedited, and it was delivered in less than 2 days - no extra charge. For anyone thats got kids, I overheard they apparently also do junior eyewear, which is quite tough to find. Thanks guys, now I'm glad I lost my glasses! read more

I went in for an eye exam and have since been back in multiple times over the past month to try to figure out which contacts are best for me (testing strengths and types) and each time the staff is kind and helpful, and the doctor is attentive and thorough. Hands down best customer service I've had in a LONG time. I was in search of some new eyewear after scratching my glasses pretty badly. I came to SEE eyewear and was in the door only 10 minutes before closing. While it would have been normal and completely reasonable for the staff to ask me to come back another day, they were very polite and helped me pick a frame! I would like to specifically highlight Ali's work and attentiveness as she helped me pick the perfect frame. I cannot thank her enough for answering my questions about fitting my glasses and for continuing her pristine customer service after my purchase! Super-cheap and low-quality eyeglasses that are drastically overpriced. Even with a Groupon, I still shelled out over $200 for these (they add in all kinds of sneaky extra costs, like lens glazing, that they don't tell you about until the last minute and which, practically speaking, you can't really do without). My pair broke after only 7 months of use -- and I took excellent care of them. And, voila, when I tried to contact the store to get them repaired -- no phone number where I could leave a message, and I found out the store's closed due to repairs. DON'T SHOP HERE. Go to a legit eye doctor instead. A big, fat, frustrating waste of time and money. read more

I've been in to SEE-georgetown 3 times now. I enjoyed the staff running the front of the house, all friendly. The styles of the glasses are modern-ish, but the selection was enough to accomodate my tastes. I haven't had good experiences with the Drs and the results. I am taking my business elsewhere at my expense because I don't think they're competant anymore. My prescription didn't leave me with clear vision, I came back, we re-did the full eye exam, got a new prescription, waited a week for glasses to come in (1-hr places sound good to me now), and now I can't really see near or far. The Drs only work 3 days a week, so getting an appointment is difficult. Because I had 2 Drs do an exam for my prescription and couldn't get it right, I am done with this location. read more

Going here was a total experience.. I was simply walking in to look at a few frames, I was helped instantly and taken on a journey. The saleswoman was charming and allowed me to pick any frames I want, and she also pulled out frames that she felt would fit my face. I think we had a total of 9 frames in the box. She asked if I needed an eye exam, once I was informed that my insurance was accepted, I went right on in, and was seen in two minutes for contact and glasses exam. The contacts that I was given were these Copper Vision Brand, which are amazing. They last all day long and keep their moisture. After that , I was selecting the final frames for my glasses. After commentary, opinions, I finally ended up with two pairs of glasses ( the selection of glasses here are just great) these glasses are hand made and are unique. I was very happy with the selection made and walked out excited about my purchase. A week later, picked up my glasses, they made me feel like a super star. I almost felt like I knew everyone. This was probably the best experience of getting glasses ever. I've gotten several complements on my new frames and just overall enjoyed this store. read more

I bought my glasses at SEE in Georgetown about 18 months ago. Unfortunately, both temple pieces came disconnected from the hinges. I was really skeptical of this breakage since I have worn glasses since 1982 and I have never had this kind of damage (snapped hinge plastic yes, but hinge dislocation, no). Despite my efforts, I could not fix them myself (I tried everything from crazy glue to masking tape). I should have saved myself the hassle and just called SEE immediately. After three months of embarrassing tape, I went to the DC Store. Still closed. So, I called customer service in Michigan. I spoke with Cheryl and she was great. She told me they hadn't had any similar complaints about my style frames and she would happily replace them for me if I sent them in to her. But how would I see at night with my glasses in Michigan? I happen to go to NYC a lot and she called the stores there to see if my frames were in stock. They were. So, yesterday I walked into the SEE on West Broadway, said who I was, Genevieve recognized my name, pulled out a replacement set of frames and voila, 10 minutes later I was walking out with new frames. No questions asked. Yes, SEE glasses with lenses always end up costing more that what qualifies as "cheap," but they back up the product 100%. read more

It looks like the normal frame price you see at other eyeglass stores for the most part...until you realize you don't have to pay an additional $200 for lenses...what a great deal! Glasses look cool from See but they don't hold up. Bought at pair and they lasted less than a year. Worse still, this was in 2005 and I'm still getting "spam" company email from them despite pleas to take me off their marketing list. Set an appointment for today at 3:00 pm for an eye exam. I showed up at 2:57 pm and the lady there informed me that the doctor was running a little behind, I said "exactly how behind?" The lady at the next table said "I'm his 2:30." So I asked the lady that worked there "how long should I expect the delay to be, 30 minutes?" Again the lady at the next table said "AT LEAST!" The employee said "I'm sorry, yes...30-45 minutes." Seriously??? You were sure to call me yesterday to make sure I remembered my appointment with you but you couldn't call me prior to my driving to Georgetown, finding parking, and getting to you on time to let me know that the doctor was running behind? Rude. I have no patience for my time being wasted. Here's the biggest loss for you, See Optical. I like to wear glasses, and I like to buy glasses. I have two prescriptions and already picked out my super crazy/splurge pair. I went to SEE to find unique frames that would flatter my face and not be overly offbeat This place has amazing prices and great pieces that are sleek/ classic with a tiny hint of funk. The prices are unbeatable too - I walked away with only a $200 bill including lenses, coatings, and frames! Granted, I have a single vision prescription but that's an unbelievable price for such an interesting pair of glasses. If you have VSP, it's 30% off (that's definitely not something that VSP advertises so that was hugely pleasant surprise). Really impressed. Normally only write spite-filled reviews just to make myself feel better when I feel ripped off by a place. This is an exception. Wow. Very, very good. From the moment I went in the strapping lad I dealt with, Chuckie (sp?), was just as nice as he could be, professional, and helpful in my picking out the frames (I have no fashion sense and no idea what looks good). The doctor was equally kind and helpful, sort of a nice, Mr. Magoo type. I was dreading this, thinking I was going to be endlessly upsold and pressured and over-charged. Nope, all just perfect, no trouble with the insurance or anything. Granted, I haven't gotten the glasses (7-10 days, which seems like kind of a long time, so if you're looking for a negative point about the place, I guess that would be it), but unless there's just a royal screw up, I feel really good about my experience here. Have had so many bad experiences related to these kinds of health-related services in DC, it's really nice to have a good one. read more

While I haven't had my glasses long enough to see if they hold up, I've had a pleasant experience with See. The people currently working their are great--they take time to try to remember your name, and are very friendly and attentive. The eye doctor I saw was also very nice, and as someone without any vision plan, the fact that they have tons of sales and specials (esp. if you're on their email list) is helpful. And while I can get glasses cheaper elsewhere, I'd rather invest in something that looks good, considering I wear my glasses 24/7. read more

Fabulous Experience at SEE. I was in need of new glasses and definitely wanted something really stylish... a statement pair of glasses. I had seen SEE online and loved the styles and colors I saw. Entering the store in Georgetown I was greeted by Sheila who was incredibly stylish in her black and white frames. Sheila let me and my friend browse a bit and then happily started making some suggestions and pulling a pair she knew about from a drawer that she thought would be great. Of course they were fabulous brown frames with a heavy tortoiseshell arm and a bit of the tortoiseshell wrapping around onto the front. These were my glasses! The whole process was extremely easy. I had a Groupon but Sheila also asked about my insurance, which I had forgotten about, and made a call and found out that my insurance would be a much better deal than the Groupon. Sheila also knew that I was purchasing a 2nd pair of glasses at another store and made me aware that if I brought the other stores frame to her she could have my lenses done with the SEE purchase and save me about $400 on the cost of the lenses from the other store! DONE. The lenses were in, in about a week. I had a small problem that the frame I purchased had a much deeper lens than I was use too and with my Progressives the reading area was too low to see through. Sheila told me to wear them for a week to be sure it was a problem and if it was they would change the lenses. I went back after a week and said they needed to be adjusted and without any problem she said they would order the new lens and have it in about a week and they could then make the change at the store and see if it was better. What amazing customer service! I love my new frames and will definitely go back for sunglasses and other new glasses in the future. BTW I was able to drive to G-Town during the day and was always able to find parking whether out front on Wisconsin or just around the block. read more

I stopped into See on a humble. I saw some great looking frames in the window and that is what drew me in. I was greeted by everyone. But Sheila made me feel comfortable. She showed me several frames they all were amazing. I never felt pressured to buy anything. Her easy going personality and her genuine knowledge of the See brand frame helped me to purchase 2 pairs. They were perfect for me. The frames made me look fresh! I can't wait to get them back. This store is like a diamond in the rough. I am glad I stumbled in. I have had great experiences with the SEE stores in both NYC and SF but not this one. I walked in one slow Saturday and asked to return a recently purchased pair of sunglasses that had broken. The person at the front desk said it wasn't allowed and mumbled something to another employee who mumbled something back and neither addressed me with a response. I followed up by asking what the result would be and he said they couldn't do it. I then asked if they couldn't return if they could just fix them to which he said they could. I came into See eyewear on Saturday. I was approached by someone name Antwan or Anthony. He was a very fast talker. He was showing me frames that I wasn't Interested in, which seemed to annoy him. I been wearing glasses for years. The price he quoted me for lenses were unbelievable. I know there are options that I could have done without, but he didn't seem to care to give me any. I paid nearly $700 for a pair of glasses recently. The two lenses are not in sync, so my vision is blurred when I wear them. I went back to have the lenses adjusted. While the staff were friendly and tried to fix the problem, they were unable to do so. I just requested an appointment with the staff optometrist to have the problem addressed. Here is the note I received: "I am sad to hear that you can't wear your glasses. Our doctor can do a office visit to check the prescription but there will be a 30.00 office visit for the doctor's time." Unacceptable. read more

I am brand new to the glasses world, so I don't have anything to compare this experience to, however I was extremely impressed with my experience at SEE. About a week ago I was pitching in a baseball game and I couldn't read the catchers signals. This scared the bejeesus out of me so I went into SEE to get an eye exam. The doctor was extremely knowledgeable and had a great bedside manner. Within minutes he had me blabbering about my life and forgetting all about the fact that father time might be creeping up on me. About 20 minutes in, he turns to me and says..."well I can tell just from your eye exam that you are a very fast reader, but you often lose your place and have to go back and re read it if you aren't interested in the subject matter." He was dead on!!! Maybe this is an easy thing for eye doctors to tell (again I am new to the world of glasses) but it impressed the hell out of me. the whole process lasted about 30 minutes, he found out exactly what was wrong with my vision and showed me how the lenses would make my world clearer. The sales associate (Geoff) was awesome helping me find something that I thought looked good and would fit in with my professional life. He was extremely knowledgeable about the types of frames they had and was honest with me if one did not look good. Overall, the whole shbang (eye exam, frames/lenses, and glare-free coating) cost me about 400 bucks with a student discount, which is a lot, but it could have been alot worse.
