When calling in, we made sure to double check the order they took, only to pick up and take home missing two items and all of our sauces. Not sure how you're expected to eat shrimp without cocktail sauce. When calling and asking for a refund on our card for the items we did not receive, we were told we had to come pick it up in cash. I work in a restaurant and know for a fact you can refund a card after cashed out. The woman on the phone explained that she "spoke to her manager and he said she shouldn't give us any money back anyway because hushpuppies are free." Confused as to why we were charged for two orders of hushpuppies if they're free? Food was subpar and due to the lack of customer service, we will not be back. This place was a total surprise to us. The employees were so very friendly you had a feeling of a real welcome atmosphere. I was not sure what the servings were like so I ordered the fried flounder and there sides. Each portion was huge and so very tasty. We've been here many times and the food and staff is normally good. We were there yesterday around 2:00 for a late lunch and my husband and I both ordered the fried Flounder. I cut into mine and there was black meat inside and didn't look right. My husbands was perfect as well as the lady at the table next to us. I asked the waitress if this was normal.. she hesitated then said it was the skin of the fish and left. The black portion of the fish wasn't against the scales of the fish. It was disgusting. I couldn't eat it. When the waitress finally came back I told her to take it cause I didn't feel right eating it. She goes oh ok so you don't like it? I said no, the fish doesn't look right. She said ok and didn't offer to get me another or replace it. She then brought the check and threw it in the basket of hush puppies and left. So now the receipt is all greasy. Very disappointed by her reaction and she still charged me for the meal. It's only $12 but I expected more of a pleasant reaction or an offer for something to replace it. Found this joint in a guide for "must try" restaurants while traveling the U.S. of A. The hush puppies that came out before the meal were slightly sweet and to die for when dipped in drawn butter. My wife and I had fried and grilled shrimp with fried squash, green tomatoes, turnip greens, and homemade macaroni and cheese. Everything was outstanding. I have passed this place MANY times on my way to Myrtle Beach and never thought of stopping. Not sure why other than it may not look grand from the outside. I decided to give this place a try Wednesday (6/10/15). This is my kind of place. I consider it a hole in the wall place. It is a 45 minute drive for me but worth the drive in my opinion. Bill for 2 people will run about $50 average, but again, I promise it's worth it. The food is very well prepared and tasty. Very low key atmosphere. Daily special listed on their board. Nice staff. I used to drive to Myrtle Beach just to get decent seafood because there is nothing, in my opinion, worth eating and/or fighting the tourist crowds for in the Charleston area. I will no longer go MB. Why should I when I an get great tasting food much closer? If you don't care for this place, all I can say is wonderful! Less people that know of SeeWee the better. Seewee is a long-time family favorite that we discovered after attending a Birds of Prey show which is right across highway 17. Don't be fooled by the modest exterior. This family owned restaurant serves some of the best seafood and comfort food around at a reasonable price. Last night I had the special--pan-fried grouper topped with fresh shrimp and my husband had the fried shrimp platter. Both were excellent. Our grandson had the kid's chicken tender meal. It was very tasty and was enough for 3 servings (we brought home the leftovers). My only complaint--I never have room for dessert! read more

My Husband wanted to stop at Seewee after our trip to TSC, and I really thought he was kidding. We have been ardent supporters over the years and use to take our guests to sample the local flavor there. The last several visits were terrible and I could tell no one cared. We spontaneously visited this restaurant on May 30 during early afternoon and enjoyed fresh local fried shrimp, she crab soup, and fried flounder sandwich. The Cole slaw was fresh, crisp, and not saturated with mayo. The lady server was excellent and experienced. She told me if the slaw was not up to par, She would bring me something else. After discovering the hard way that national parks are closed on the weekends, we discovered a silver-lining - the Seewee Restaurant - the very definition of southern hospitality. The inside is old-timey and welcoming, the hush puppies are delicious, the fried chicken is amazing, and the folks there were just as nice as they could be to us and to our little dog (in a silly Hawaiian shirt). As we were walking out, a stranger said to me, "this is the best restaurant in all of Charleston", I have to agree. And the girl who took care of us was just as charming and bubbly as a Peach Nihi. I have been here a few times & for some reason have never written a review. What a quaint little spot with mainly fried fish. It's a family run very very busy spot & a delight to take out of town guests who want plain good southern food without the upmarket pretense. The decor is a rarity I imagine, a shop up front with bottled sodas & a selection of condiments. There is minimal air conditioning, if any but lots of fans & it does not feel hot inside. The staff are local men & women with no pretense & teenagers working the ice boxes & doing general cleaning. The feeling inside is that one feels they are taken back in time to the 1950's 1960'. A major time warp!! Lots of local history & decor to look at while eating. Now for the best part.. The toilets are outside & no I did not frequent. They have outside dining also & parking is somewhat limited. It's on the busy 17N so be careful. I love it here. The portions are very generous. Go & support local small businesses. Out for a drive on our weekend in Charleston and found this on my mobile Yelp app- great job Yelp! The Seewee was just what we were looking for! Perfectly lowcountry and perfectly casual. This is real honest seafood and country cooking. The hushpuppies were the best I've had and came when we sat down- hushed me right up! All of the food, including the veggie sides was tasty. We "dined" at several respected establishments in Charleston but this was our favorite meal of the entire trip so that's saying something! One drawback to note: they do not serve beer (alcohol, whatever) on Sunday. One of the owners told us that there is some licensing that is super expensive to serve on Sunday and that they couldn't justify that expense. Not a problem for us as their sweet tea was mighty fine. If I were doing this vacation again, I'd have stopped by for a bowl and moved on to eat a fuller meal down the road. The soup is a bit heavy, but still top-notch, and comes with a little paper snifter of sherry. I shouldn't like to know the nutritional facts that describe one serving's worth. It was nice to drink Nehi, as well. But I'm less enthusiastic about what followed. But the food is consistently good. My biggest issue is that I feel I always have to wait for the hush puppies. They are always running out. A sign said please wait to be seated then I heard a yell " table for 2"? A woman across the room was flagging us down. I was brought here by coworkers for a holiday lunch. We had called days ahead (twice) to make sure we'd have seating and of course no one knew anything about it once we got there. The place smells dank and musty. I suppose it's part of the 'rustic charm.' To top it off the restrooms are outside on the side of the building! I suppose ADA compliance is something they don't care about. The food was average seafood. You can get something comparable if not better at most seafood places in town without having to drive to the ends of the earth. I'll never be back. The two stars are for the hush puppies. read more
