IF YOU ARE NOT A LOCAL - DON'T BOTHER. Yes, it's a hole in the wall little place, clean, and friendly. BUT - That's a huge BUT....if you see the reviews and think you'll get a nice variety of food....DON'T. The place is unassuming from the outside, and upon walking in, since we weren't local, everybody gave us a look, and a smile. We were not greeted by a server, so we tracked one down and got our own menus and sat ourselves. The draft beer list totaled three beers, one of which was out. The bottled beer was your standard bud, Coors, etc. I ordered an IPA, which was cold and refreshing and served in a plastic cup. My husband since he did not care for a Coors, ordered a sweet tea, what else are you gonna order when you're in South Carolina. The sweet tea, see picture, was more like flavored sweet water. Server, I believe her name was Maddie, was friendly enough, very courteous. The menu was limited, some appetizers which included wings, mozzarella sticks, etc. There were two salads to choose from. Fish was a shrimp basket, and cod or flounder basket, two burgers, there was also a pulled pork platter, half rack and full rack ribs, brisket, and pizzas, but the pizzas were only served on Thursdays. I opted for the brisket, my husband for the fried shrimp basket. Upon inquiry they informed him that the shrimp was local, because what else do they catch in McClellanville but fresh shrimp! The brisket, Maddie informed me that it was not served on a Wednesday. So I selected the pulled pork. My husband felt at the shrimp basket was frozen shrimp, with a flavorless batter. The cocktail sauce that came with the shrimp was frozen in the center. He had collards as a side which he said were very good. My pulled pork came as a large serving, in a basket, at room temperature. The pork itself had a good bite but was flavorless, our server had brought two sauces to use on the pork, which was needed. My side was the Gouda mac & cheese, which was also very tasty. While we were there, and looking at the menu, the menu has greatly changed from the reviews that we read to the visit. Yes, great place if you were local, because there's not much else available. Friendly yes, but if you were driving any distance (Charleston), don't do it. read more

We were driving between Charleston and Myrtle Beach after a long flight and found this sweet gem! The atmosphere (trivia night) was laid back and friendly, the food was excellent, and our waitstaff made us feel more than right at home. And when it turned out I had accidentally left my credit card behind, the owners went out of their way to meet up with me a week later so I could pick it up. Highly recommend! read more

My wife and I were traveling from Savannah to Myrtle Beach and happened upon this little gem of a restaurant. It was mid afternoon and we were greeted enthusiastically by one of the owners, who had a great smile and inviting personality. The menu had a good variety of items and we ordered a grilled chicken caesar salad and the Brett burger. My with said it was one of the best caesar salads she has ever had. Lettuce cold and crisp, chicken warm implying freshly grilled but the best were the homemade croutons - delish. My burger came out cooked to a perfect mid-rare, the tater tots hot and seasoned nicely, but the best was the homemade ranch dressing. It's easily overlooked by many restaurants, but house made items taste better and are less expensive to make. If your traveling Rt17 thru Mcclellenville, SC this is a MUST stop. read more

We were in town for a weekend in early May and stopped by the Bent Rod after a long day outside. We opted for outdoor seating due to our comfort with indoor dining and Covid. The staff was friendly and helpful. We loved our egg roll appetizer and each enjoyed our food platters. I accidentally said fried and corrected myself to grilled, but ended up with fried shrimp, but didn't say anything. A minor mishap, but I was HUNGRY ! Their fry is extra oily, so I was unable to finish my fried shrimp with fried okra, just too oily for my stomach. The fry batter was good, but nothing to write home about. Overall, we had a positive experience and really enjoyed their sauces! I wish I'd taken a photo , but the bathrooms are REALLY nice. Nicer than the rest, visually. read more

A nice, local restaurant/bar here. The meals are large and delicious. The staff are friendly and very helpful. We were a party of four. Walked in and we were greeted and seated in the dining room instantly. Ordered some drinks and read over their menu. I decided to go with a nice French Dip with tater tots. Others went with their own, house made crab cakes and a nice salad. Everything we had was perfect! Our waitress was really nice and attentive. On our way in, I noticed a very inviting bar area. Stopped in on our way down 17S to Charleston. What a find! Great food, decent prices and ice cold beer. I had the fried Shrimp basket with Parmesan truffle fries and my husband had the fried flounder sandwich with a garden salad. We also had ice cold beers. The shrimp...a dozen, large, very lightly breaded, I mean barely, fresh and perfectly cooked. The cocktail sauce was just spicy enough. The truffle fries were very tasty and there were lots of them. The flounder sandwich was also very good as was the salad. Was a good crowd for a Sunday night. If you're anywhere nearby, go there and support local business. We will be back! read more

First time eating here during our trek between Charleston and Myrtle Beach. Location: basically a road side Bar. Staff: Very Friendly and service was fast and drinks stayed full. Cost: terrible for what we got...... Food: Our family of five were all over the menu and the overall impression was just Ok. I got shrimp and was not impressed by flavor or taste but it was ok. Wife got a burger and it was average. Eldest boy got adult mac and cheese and ate half. This is very out of character for the destroyer of crops, pizzas and entire cows. Two youngest picked at grilled cheese and broccoli. This place would not be a do again by choice but being ,OK, if I find myself famished in between Charleston and Georgetown again they may get another shot. The people were so friendly and accommodating - had two young kids with us - and the food was great. Really loved the crab cakes and fish sandwich. And pretty inexpensive foe the quality of food. Saw this getting fixed up as we drove from Pawleys Island to Mt. Pleasant each week. Was the Crab Pot or something like that... never ate at the old place, was just a run down shack, but this place sparkles. Rustic but with a dash of class. The fixtures and the furnishing are nautical theme; restrooms are pretty cool (understand one of the owners is actually a plumber); Love the hostess desk... way cool. Neat menu; Jalapeno poppers wrapped in bacon was a big yummy surprise. They do serve frogs legs and the burgers I hear are great. Side salad with home-made dressings a plus. Shrimp entree and my fried fish dish were quite tasty. Open 7 days a week. 1/2 of the patrons that were there this day took carry out. read more

We love The Bent Rod. We were lucky to discover it on our way from our home in Pawleys Island to Charleston last year. Now we make it a point to visit! First time here and it was delicious!! Have been to Seewee Restaurant in the past and although the food is good there, I think the extra 20 min ride north is worth it. The place is extra clean and the staff was really friendly. We had the fried flounder and fried shrimp dinners. Each was more than we could eat. There were 20 medium sized, perfectly cooked shrimp and two huge pieces of flounder. The truffle fries are good but should be thinner. The thick potatoes take away from the flavor a little. A great find, happened to pass by and decided to turn around and go in-- happy we did. Place was decently packed for their Taco Tuesday special. Started with the Bourbon Butter shrimp, some of the best shrimp we've ever had. The bourbon butter was delicious, and perfect with the bread to dip in it. Also got shrimp and alligator po boys, tasted very fresh and were good portions! The service was exceptional, friendly and made you feel right at home.
