Fried green tomato poboy and macaroni salad.

I've been wanting to try the glass onion for a while so since I was having my car worked on and that was within walking distance, I decided to try it. I was not disappointed. The fried green tomato Po-boy and macaroni salad on the side was delicious. Nice clean restaurant. They use paper on top of the nice tables to keep everything clean.

At The Glass Onion for lunch great spot!! Always good vibe here nice buzz everyone talking and enjoying great meals!! Seated right away and our waitress was on point with drink orders! Started out with the NC Chicken Liver Mousse, outstanding!! For the main dishes we had the Chicken Salad Sandwich and the Pan Roasted Carolina Mountain Trout, both were delicious!! I just love the food here at The Glass Onion easy 5 Stars !!

This place is a hidden gem! We hadn't originally planned stopping here on a trip, but found it as we were driving by and we were pleasantly surprised! We really enjoyed the feel and atmosphere of this place and the food was great, especially the fried green tomatoes with the pimento cheese!

Wanted to try this place out and finally made it. So glad we did. Service was top notch. We got there rather late in the evening so it was not crowded. We started with some Chicken salad with hand cut chips and veggies. Then I chose the pork with mashed potatoes and macaroni salad. The tomato jam was yum! Mine was so good I didn't even bother to notice what the others had!!

Carolina rice had a nice kick!

Haley is oh so sweet and welcoming. We were the first or second party to come in on a Friday after 10AM. - Fried Green Tomatoes $12: w/ the pimiento cheese slathered on top, these were heavenly! It's a simple idea, but something about freshly fried, slightly tart tomatoes is so tasty. - Shrimp and Grits $20: shrimp were large and luscious. Grits still aren't my fave, but this was tasty. Towards the end, it did get a bit salty for some reason. - Buttermilk shrimp plate $19: fluffy crisp on the outside. yummy! - Brussels sprouts $10: this was saaaaalty. not my favorite. They have other unique options on the menu, eg quail. And they change up the menu! I would come back still to try different things.

Get the cornbread, add the honey.

Shout out to Chris and his team. This is a staple for me. Fried quail w/ grits is always awesome, homemade desserts, clean, fresh, and local. I'm a believer.

Our 1st night in Charleston and we definitely wanted that low country experience. The glass onion didn't disappoint! Start with a server that was a sweet as their tea, jump on those fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese as an appetizer then pick your entreee's. At the Glass Onion the sides are as important as anything on your plate. Collard greens that were so deep in flavor and served with proper cider vinegar, macaroni salad that supported our fried shrimp and catfish, dirty rice that was rich and spicey. Unfortunately we just ran out of room for desert.

First stop for us in Charleston, as hubs picked it for lunch. He loved the fried green tomatoes with the delicious pimento cheese. It was his first time ever having quail, and probably his last. He wasn't a big fan, and he really didn't care for the cheese grits. I thought they were "okay". The pork belly was fantastic! It was a sizable portion and melted in my mouth. Hubs also ordered a Key Lime tart for dessert, which was his favorite part of his meal. The Glass Onion was very clean and organized, our server was great!

It has been an unbelievable 9 years since my last visit to The Glass Onion in West Ashley and I'm so glad I returned. It still has that same welcoming charm -- casual yet thoughtful, with a focus on fresh, local ingredients. The food was every bit as good as I remembered (maybe even better!). You can tell there's real care behind every dish -- perfectly seasoned, balanced, and made with top-quality ingredients. The menu has evolved a bit over the years, but it still keeps that comforting Southern flair that makes it special. This time I had the Chicken Salad Brioche Sandwich.. yum. My family had Fried Green Tomatoes, Macaroni Salad, Fried Chicken Sandwich. All bursting with flavor... delicious Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere remains cozy and relaxed -- the kind of place that feels like a local gem even after all this time. The Glass Onion is definitely worth the return trip!

Wow! Not a fufu place! Very unimpressive once you walk in! It's like you just walked into the neighborhood hangout! The menu was relatively short! No breakfast at 11:30 ! You basically sit where you want ! I will say the decor does not fit the quality of food! What came out of that kitchen was just short of amazing ! The cat fish strips were cooked perfectly and very hot! The trout was excellent ! Corn cake like a little cake! Collard smoky and tangy and not over cooked ! Portion sizes good interesting make up of just a group of old men serving and cooking ! Looks like family and friends ! Service was good! Not much conversation but pleasant !

The Glass Onion on Route 17 is a true Charleston gem! Inspired from the Beatles song. From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed with warm Southern hospitality. The feel is you are eating in someone's home. The food is outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared with a modern Lowcountry twist. The catfish fried in cornmeal with a sauce was excellent and the macaroni and smashed potato sides were two of the best I've had anywhere! The shrimp po-boy was huge. Every dish tastes from scratch and beautifully balanced, and you can tell they take pride in quality ingredients. The shrimp is locally sourced when they can. Today's catch was from the gulf and tasted very fresh. The service is friendly, attentive, and never rushed, creating a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. If you're looking for authentic, elevated Southern cuisine in a cozy setting, The Glass Onion is a must-visit.

Our server was really amazing. Our son ordered the cheese pita pizza and vegetable which was cauliflower tonight. He liked everything. I was not super impressed with the pizza, but it's a kids menu so it gets a pass. My husband and I were a bit deflated when we saw the current menu after looking at menus on here, but I didn't look at the dates so I'm sure they are old menus. So many things we had our heart set on trying that they didn't offer anymore. That's our fault, obviously. We had planned to grab our son dinner and we were set on a couple of apps and splitting something. We ended up ordering the fried chicken, paying $3 more for all white meat, French fries, and a side of Mac and cheese to split. It took ab 15 min to make the chicken which was no problem and we appreciated them telling us that when we ordered. Once the food arrived it looked great. The Mac and cheese was fantastic. The chicken was good and juicy, but we didn't think it was anything special really. They did give us some honey tobacco that my husband enjoyed but we felt let down by all the hype on the fried chicken. The food was prepared great and came to the table hot, we just didn't love it. They didn't do anything wrong and if they brought back some of the older menu options we might go back but after this experience it's not getting added to my favorites, unfortunately. I would maybe try again for just drinks bc the restaurant is really beautiful!

The food itself was slightly above average and fine for a casual meal. The service was average as well. Our waitress was polite but nothing really stood out in terms of attentiveness. I wanted to try this place because of the positive reviews and because I love mediterranean food…read more I thought maybe it would be one of those hole in the wall surprises... but, it was disappointing. I got the Chicken Shawarma Platter since that's what I saw mentioned the most in reviews. The chicken with dry, the "garlic sauce" was basically mayo, the rice was also dry and wasn't necessarily a flavor I would pick. There was one dolmas (even though the menu says 2), and it was good (to be fair, I didn't say anything about it). I imagine their greek salad would be good because the small side salad on the plate was good. For $16 though, it was pretty disappointing. When I think platter, I think more like sharing size, but this was pretty comparable to most places one person meal. I didn't finish it, but mostly because it was really dry and didn't taste great. We also got fried pickles (okay, but pretty greasy and they could really use some kind of dipping sauce), the hubs got the Ribeye Philly, he said it needed some kind of sauce and that he didn't feel the need to come back, so... nothing noteworthy. The kids got chicken fingers and fries. They polished off the fries (they were good!) but left most of the chicken fingers, I didn't try them, so... and lastly, the ambiance... if I had to pick between here and somewhere like Kairos, I'd pick Kairos... it's cleaner, they have music going, and my kids like to watch the videos of people making the kairos food. Med Diner has no music, the vibe is a bit weird (like someone cut out the middle back of all the chairs with like a saw or something), it feels a little thrown together and sad. I saw a handful of people go through the drive through while we were there, so maybe there's just something else they are better known for and we hit an off day. Just not my vibe.
