This is just the cutest little place on Savannah Highway! They are serving up some seriously good southern classics. We started off with the garlic and Parmesan brussel sprouts, which was the perfect choice to start off with. Per the server's recommendation, I ordered the fried green tomato po boy and a side of grits. The sandwich was definitely a lot to take on and very messy, but it was so good I didn't even care. Start with a server that was a sweet as their tea, jump on those fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese as an appetizer then pick your entreee's. It's always caught my eye with the charming outside and quirky name. We weren't super hungry so my boy friend and I split the shrimp po boy with a side of red rice and cole slaw. The cole slaw was almost exactly like my grandmas! The red rice had a good amount of heat and the shrimp po boy was flavorful with the perfect amount of mayo. The waitress was very friendly and talked us into getting the peanut butter chocolate pie to finish the night off. I'll say it is just like eating a gigantic reece cup - so good!! Maintaining consistent food quality, service, and customer base in this area can be next to impossible, but somehow the GO nails it all. I've been coming here for more than 10 years and the food is always spot on. They remain dedicated to using local meat, seafood, produce, and even spirits, as well as natural ingredients. Because of this, the menu changes frequently depending on what's in season. You can tell that tourists have discovered this place, but it's also obvious that this is a local favorite frequented by locals who appreciate well-done Southern classics. My wife and I recently had dinner at the GO on Christmas Eve eve, and we weren't the only ones with the same idea. There were a few parties waiting ahead of us and they kept coming after we were seated. I imagine they were short-staffed due to the holidays, but the staff that were there certainly made effort to keep up with the rush. We ordered a few apps and an entree all to split so we could try a bit of everything. The Lil' Garden Salad is always fantastic - crisp local vegetables dressed with a simple but flavorful vinaigrette. The pickled vegetables that come on the salad - in this case, green beans and green peppers - add a nice pickley pop to the fresh vegetables. The Brussels Sprouts will convert anyone who doesn't think they like this vegetable. The creamy sauce and shaved Parmesan make for a rich and delicious side dish or appetizer. The Fried Green Tomatoes with Pimento Cheese are a Lowcountry Classic. The tomatoes are perfectly fried - crisp, not greasy - and the pimento cheese gets nice and melty on the hot tomatoes. The one thing we tried for the first time was the Shrimp Dip with Potato Chips. The chopped local shrimp in a dill-laced creamy sauce with capers was nice, but fairly plain when compared with everything else on the table. The housemade chips were fantastic, though. Sliced to the perfect thickness and fried to a golden crisp. The Shrimp and Grits are a must-order dish. Local shrimp, smoked sausage, creole tomatoes and a flavorful broth cover a robust serving of possibly the best grits you'll ever have. There are a lot of gimmicky shrimp and grits around the city - this isn't one of them. Greeted us and took our order with a very friendly and welcoming attitude. We both ordered the butterfly shrimp with greens. I added dirty rice and she ordered smashed potatoes. This food was excellent. The greens were cooked perfectly! The dirty rice had just a small bite which added to the overall excellence of the meal. I came here for lunch and ended up trying two of the po-boys and they were amazing and it was only about $15/sandwich. Got the green tomato and pimento cheese and the shrimp po-boys. I'm a shrimp lover, but I must say I liked the veggie one better. The fried tomato with the pimento cheese as the sauce was truly "chef's kiss". The tomatoes by itself would've felt too plane and it really needed a strong and rich sauce to combine that and the baguette and the cheese was strong and helped bring all of it together. The shrimps were also so well fried, light breading, cooked just enough such that even small pieces of shrimp were moist and tender. I would love to come back here and try other things!
