Always love Segovia - whichever it is. What makes customers disappointed is the service. This one was giving me a bad vibe .... Not responding well, not seemed to care much, and well it turned out to be so. The champagne sangria that we always order was soooo watery, just apples in it, rather than the colorful berries that usually accompany the champagne sangria. Just juice. Then, instead of the "medium rare" we ordered, he brought "medium well" .... That good ribeye medium well !!!!! Translated from the Spanish meaning inn or tavern, my partner, our friends, and I decided on an early Easter celebration dinner at this establishment geared towards catering in-house and larger events located only 1.7 miles north of MetLife Stadium on Washington Avenue in Carlstadt. Tonight, some of us are returning to Segovia Mesón after a hiatus of 4 years. The reservation was easily made by calling the restaurant. Upon arrival inside, with the warm and inviting earth tones making a very relaxed vibe, we were greeted by the host and got a table in one of the three rooms. The menu offers an appealing array of tapas, paellas, and traditional Spanish dishes bursting with authentic flavors. As appetizers, we decided on a dozen East Coast Oysters and Ecargots Segovia. Our main entree consisted of Scallops and Shrimp, Stuffed Shrimp, Short Ribs, Whole Baked Branzino, and Veal Castellana unfortunately with no substitution. Rice, Broccoli and Potato Chips accompanied our meal to be shared by everyone. Complimentary European-style rolls with butter started our meal. Each bite was a testament to the chef's dedication to quality and craftsmanship. However, the shrimps were not only overcooked but also tasteless. The scallop and jumbo shrimp dish looked more like an appetizer than a main. The service was courteous and attentive; our server was Silvano, who was friendly. The price was a bit steep. Decided to try this place after finding out their 2 other location had a longer than usual wait time to dine. Honestly, i'm glad we dined here because it was less packed and the food was AMAZING! They also had a full bar so we ordered a 1/2 pitcher of red sangria (yum)! For food, we ordered the garlic shrimp for appetizer, followed by paella marinera and tomahawk to share. This was my first visit to Segovia Meson and it was very pleasant. The restaurant has plenty of parking and both the interior and exterior are kept clean. Silvano, our Server, did a great job throughout the meal and gave appreciated recommendations. I started with a Red Sangria and it threw me for a loop. It was served in a large glass, had an acceptable amount of fruit, but it made me hand over the car keys, again. I wish I wasn't such a lightweight, but c'est la vie. However, it was confirmed, that the drink was strong. We started with the Chicken Croquettes. The batter was thin and tasty, the chicken was savory, and the appetizer was large enough to share. For the entree, we shared the Skirt Steak, thinly sliced, with Broccoli Rabe, Sautéed Potatoes, and Shishitso Peppers. The steak was tender, prepared medium-well, and all of the accompaniments complemented the steak perfectly. With this visit, I have visited all three Segovias. I attended yesterday for my grandma's 80th birthday and I just wanna tell you what a great place to have a party. The waiters were absolutely amazing. The family style appetizers to start off were amazing. The filet mignon empanadas are top-tier the garlic shrimp didn't miss at all. the stuff lobster was amazing and my favorite. The flavor and how buttery it was was perfect. I would definitely recommend this place for gathering. I wish I could give the waiters a shout out but I forgot to ask them their names. So I went here last night for an Anniversary party. First off the hostess and the waiter's were excellent! They provided everything that we needed without hesitation. The food was fantastic I have to say. The pasta was great, the steak and lobster were delicious. The appetizer's were super delicious too. The Sangria was pretty good too. First, we were not even sure who was serving us as there seemed to be a main wait staff member who took our order, but then we barely saw her and there was another who would help, but I didn't want to bother her as she wasn't the main person. After our food was delivered, no one came by to check on us. I had wanted more bread because we'd ordered pasta, but no chance to ask. When we were wrapping up our food at the end, I asked if I could get some bread to go for the leftovers. The wait staff person recoiled at my request and went away. We were then charged $4.50 for a bag with 5 cold rolls inside and not told we'd be charged for it. They also added a 20% gratuity fee for a table of 5 and sent yet another waiter to collect the check. When I commented to him that we had never been charged for bread to go in prior visits, he was indignant and commented that what did I expect if I asked for something to go. Essentially, I felt like we were being nickel and dimed for our dining experience. If you go, keep the following in mind: 1. They do charge for refills on any fountain drinks which are $4 each. 2. I've been to all the other Segovia's, but never to this one. So my husband and I decide to try it out last night. There was no wait and we were seated right away. A cup of soup, and a basket of rolls are offered on the house with your meal. I ordered the sole franchise which was a larger piece of fish and came with three jumbo shrimp. All was cooked perfectly and was very tasty. My husband got the pork chops in a garlic sauce, which was a huge portion (3 big chops). He also was very happy with his choice. I even tasted a bite, and they were so tender and flavorful. Along with your dish they also bring out the potato chips, rice and broccoli. Staff was friendly and accommodating . Usually i go there for their pork chops and hot peppers . 2 huge double pork chops bones in and smothered in hot cherry peppers.when i went there christmas day i was totally suprised when i was only given one double pork chop and it was already sliced and put on top of sliced potatoes to make it look like a lot . The food is amazing. From the warm bread to entree, the food is well prepared and delicious. The service on the other hand is horrible. Our server, Miguel looked like he hates life itself and everyone that goes to the resturant. He's rude and has smart ass comments. He didn't even introduce himself and as a former server at resturant, an introduction was the first thing we did. If you have him as your server and ask a question, you'll most likely get a smart ass answer back. He was so rude to my mother who simply asked a question. He's the reason I will not return. Awful service makes the experience horrible and the food itself isn't enough. We've celebrated our father's birthday back in April and it was amazing service and guess what Miguel wasn't the server. Thankfully, but this second experience was awful and disappointing. To make matters worse, they charged my sisters card twice and when she called back the manager denied it although it's on her statement. They required a $200 deposit to make the reservation and advise you if it will only be taken if you don't show up but at the end of the night they will say it's going towards your bill without warning. Honestly, the food does not make up for the horrible service. The 1 star is only for the food. So I've been craving great paella for a long time & you would think we could get it here in south Florida but not really so. The best I've had down here is cafe Seville but theirs does not compare to Segovia Meson in Carlstadt, NJ. I was visiting my parents in Hackensack, NJ and Monday was my dad's 84th Birthday, so I took them for lunch. Service was spot on. The food was just amazing. 3 of us went for lunch and shared mussels in green sauce, filet mignon empanadas & paella Valencia (all shellfish, calamari, chicken, chorizo & half a lobster). OMG, se freaking good. I've not eaten at this location before because they opened after I moved to FL but I've eaten at 2 of their other locations. They are always great! The food is very much lacking in flavors that says "Spanish"! I've been to the other Segovia restaurant which has better flavors and quality. Segovia Meson falls short when compared to the other restaurant. I've been here on three occasions. The first was for their steamed lobster twins special which was a good deal. I was excited to go to this spot to celebrate my good friend's birthday. I made reservations for 7pm and arrived right on time. I parked in their private parking lot. I walked in and there was a lot of people waiting. There was no one at the hostess stand so waited a while until I seen a lady that seemed to work there and I asked if there was a hostess. She said she does it all including management. I told her I had reservations and my name and she said give her a moment. I waited about 10 more minutes until she sat the large party then got to me and sat us. The place is very spacious which was appricated. We were served by Miguel. When he got to us after a few he asked if we wanted a drink and I asked about the sangria and if they made it fresh. He answered with an attitude "uh yeah" like I was supposed to know. I already knew what kind of night we were going to have. While I get Miguel was busy serving, he was not very attentive. He never checked on us and we had to get his attention for the check. Service wasn't great, let's just say that. Here's the good part, the empanadas I ordered wasn't bad at all. The bread was very fresh and tasty. My friend ordered the Segovia Platter. I tasted the clams, scallops and filet and they were all good. On the other hand the sangria was a tad watery and not strong at all. Also the food took forever to come out. Odd place - my friend ordered shrimp in garlic sauce. I Ordered filet mignon tips. They arrived together, hers too hot (temperature) to eat right away, and mine cold. Also my dish was well done , was not asked how I wanted my steak - - - This was wrong for this meat. Also the presentation was unexciting, they could make it look better. We had a nice conversation about wines with a gentlemen I believe to be the manager. He suggested an Albarino which turned out to be very good. I ordered, beef empanadas- delicious, surf and turf (filet mignon- which was very flavorful-I ordered it medium well). We rented the private room for a 50th birthday this past Saturday. The staff was great, super attentive throughout the night. The food was decent, I would recommend getting the seafood (calamari, shrimp, mussels) over the chicken/steak. The sangria was refilled all night which I appreciated. What a gem! This was my first time visiting Meson. My friends and I stopped in for the social hour which runs from 3-6 during the week. I usually go to the other Segovia location on Moonachie Rd which is also very good. I loved the bar area. They have spacious booths which are very comfortable. The restaurant has a very cozy feel. Our female server, Nicole, was outstanding! Very attentive and personable. She is definitely an asset to the organization. Let me just say this place was an amazing value and the food quality exceeded my expectations. Every single thing we ordered was prepared perfectly and tasted so fresh. We started off with a pitcher of the red sangria which was amazing! They definitely were not shy with the liquor. lol love you does not taste like it has much alcohol but they do hit you hard after drinking a few. lol. Pace yourselves people. Now for the social hour food. We ordered a bunch of appetizers from the special menu to share. The paella was the star and one of the best I've ever had. The rice was so creamy not hard or dry. The flavors were busting in your mouth. I was very impressed with this dish. The seafood was not over cooked and so fresh. We also tried the calamari, stuffed mushrooms, clams oregano, empanadas, shrimp and garlic, grilled asparagus and house salad (loved the dressing). Every single dish was presented beautifully and of the highest quality. Now let's talk about the customer appreciation special. OMG!!! It's available all day on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday's. You get the choice between a 16 oz NY strip steak and 5 oz lobster tail or Two twin 5oz tails for only $30! We were already pretty stuffed from the tasty appetizers but we saved a little room. lol. This is one of the best deals on the menu. It comes with that tasty yellow rice, fresh vegetables and a side of those addicting homemade potato chips! The steak was cooked to the temperature I ordered it and the lobster was so succulent! Add a side of melted butter and you have Heaven on a plate! Food pretty good! Service not so much. Came in on a Sunday evening around 6pm, no reservations however it wasn't crowded at all. As you walk in, straight forward is the host stand and the bar to the right. The hostess or server just looked at us, as if they were wondering why we were there...? We mentioned we needed a table for seven and no we had no reservations. They walked us to their dinning area to the left which is pretty spacious and has a fireplace on the wall. Our server was very nice but not attentive at all. As we settled in he came by to take our drink order... about 10 minutes passed he brought the white sangria and some glasses.. then brought some more, we still needed the bottle of wine we asked for and wine glasses which he later brought. After we began to drink he came up to ask if we were ready to order... BUT WE WERE NEVER GIVEN ANY MENUS!? We just looked at him like what how? And he quickly went to get the menus. Eventually we placed our order and food came at a decent time however not all at the same time. We got 1 pitcher of water the whole time we were there.. finally we asked for more because clearly it was never going to be refilled even though our water glasses were empty.. We also had to move empty dishes to the table behind us because no one would come to check in to remove them as we finished our appetizers and meal. Food thankfully was actually really good, I wasn't too hungry so I just decided to have the grilled octopus. Others had the lobster ravioli, stuffed salmon, stuffed mushrooms, paella .. all really good. Asked for the check, another 15 minutes, to get the card back another 15.. it was pretty ridiculous. Here they call it "Social Hour" instead of the classic "Happy Hour", huh? (If I knew I would be going to a fancy place I would've made sure to wear a belt to keep up my trousers instead of the frayed rope I'm partial to!) Be that as it may... it took one full year but the family finally tried all three of the Segovia restaurants in the area. The verdict: we're leaning towards Meson as being the best of the bunch. (Although it wouldn't hurt to hit all three places one more time just to be sure.) We were seven-strong out to celebrate someone's milestone birthday (one minute you're graduating high school and the next you're now getting the AARP magazine in the mail?! How the heck did that happen?!) and had the entire dining room to ourselves. Service: everyone was delightful but... there were long gaps when you couldn't find someone. Food: excellent all around. Yeah, maybe the chicken breasts were a bit tough to cut with the standard kinda-sorta-butter-knife they provide but at least their steak had very little fat, compared to the Segovia over in Little Ferry. The Mrs. (and her mom) were over the moon with the baked branzino special they both ordered. One issue: we received six entrees at the same time, the last one (halibut special) didn't come out for another 6-7 minutes. (Worth mentioning again: that we were the only table in the dining room at the time. A place this big must be able to handle seven entrees so everyone at the table can get their meal pretty much at the same time, right?) Drinks: we thought we'd keep things normal with a pitcher of red sangria but our waiter mentioned a few other styles/options and he sold us on their passion fruit sangria. ¡Guau! Now this was an incredibly delicious and refreshing drink. Restaurant looks good. Decent-sized parking lot. Pricing was more than fair for the portions they're giving you. Came after Giants game, as it's up the road from MetLife Stadium, it was our anniversary..and we love another location of Segovia. Our waiter once he took our order disappeared for long periods of time. Never asked if we wanted a second drink. Had to walk to bar to ask. Same for dessert and the check, had to hunt someone down. Maybe he was the only server on. Find that hard to believe on a Sunday, but things are tough all over in the restaurant industry. The food is outstanding. Consistent with our other Segovia experience. That will get us back here to this location again next time we get to a Giants game. Probably won't be until next year. Food is really fantastic! I've had quite a few things here but I really enjoyed creating my own steak and lobster and crab leg combo. It was super indulgent and way too much food (the sirloin was 24 oz!!). But it tasted damn good. They really do a number here with the garlic shrimp and pinchos. Those are two of my favorite tapas here by far. I always end up doubling my order of the shrimp. Their paella here is also pretty rock solid. Warning: The portions here are GIGANTIC. Unless you have a huge appetite you will most certainly have to take the paella home if you're ordering it for yourself. You can easily feed four people with one ala carte order of paella. The bang for the buck aspect of this place is terrific, not to mention the food itself is solid. I like the fact there's a big parking lot here. The bar area is also quite nice with plenty of TVs. Didn't introduce himself, didn't crack a smile, just very rude! after taking our orders he became mute deaf and blind because he barely looked out way, not to be rude but that was his behavior. For our first time there, he sure ruined the experience for us. There are restaurants that do pay waiters to be rude maybe he should consider applying to one of those gigs.
