I can never say enough positive things about this gym. I have paid for many gyms, weight loss plans, pills, I mean you name it I tried it. All failed, I was super intimidated when I started because it's way outside my comfort zone. I knew my trainer from his previous location as he trained my kids. I have been going for 2 months and I have to say by this time I would have quit and made excuses not to go. The results are slow but steady and I feel the gains and personal best with every session. This is the first time ever that I have wanted to continue what I started. I work out and the time flies. And everyone wipes down equipment and re-racks weights in their place. Ground-breaking! All the trainers i have interacted with have been friendly and helpful. My trainer, Ben Woods, is awesome. I have been through 8 workouts with him so far and plan on many more in the coming months. I have already started seeing results. Ben listens to what your goals are and develops extremely specific sessions to address those. And he has functional training expertise, so he knows how to address your limiting issues. I love my personalized training, my trainers, and the options in workout equipment that can be used. All great. However my reason for the three star is the in the past several months there has been a particular trainer that brings in almost camp size groups of kids that use up almost half of the gym making in impossible to share and limits what my trainer can do with me when I come. My trainer can't even give me heads up because she doesn't know when they will be there. Note I'm talking groups with 10 plus kids (the trainers with 3-4 at a time I don't mind). Along with this the parents tend to hang out and at times have toddler age sibling that's just run free giving me worry that I'm going to hit one when doing some of my exercises (kettle bell swings for example). I love this facility and pay for the personalized environment. If I wanted to be around a bunch of kids and parents I could go to a park and workout on my own for free. Like I said this has been a new thing so hoping it calms down eventually. EDIT: Thank you Miguel for your quick reply. The parents definitely make it hard and please note I do appreciate the youth activities some of the trainers do. But like I said those huge groups of 10+ do take up a lot of space and it's not very consistent when they are coming. May I suggest the trainers who do these big groups just give a kind of heads up? I met Derek Johnson back in 2018. I had lost my Mom to breast cancer and shortly after that I lost my husband to a motorcycle accident. I was in a really bad place and living wasn't high on my list. I decided I needed to do something about my mental health. Derek changed my life. When I started bodybuilding , I could feel the depression and anger leaving my mind and body. I trained with him 3 days a week. Derek trained me on bodybuilding, Powerlifting, Posing, and Nutrition. On March 13th 2021 I had the great displeasure of meeting Dominique Morrison. He assured me that he would/could help me surpass my goals. He then proceeded to collect $1,440 from me. He did this before I ever had the opportunity to get to know his abysmal "training services". I asked about paying using Venmo after each session was complete (as I currently do/have done with the other REPUTABLE trainers), but I was told that that was not an option. I wanted to give Mr. Morrison the benefit of the doubt, so I paid him with my credit card on March 13th (the day he sent me the invoice). I never signed a contract (nor was I ever asked to). I NEVER agreed to let him keep this money regardless of the quality of services that he rendered. Nor did he ever explain to me that that was what he planned to do. Mr. Morrison eventually told me that personal training was a side business for him. It is evident that personal training is not something that he takes seriously. 3/13/21: I met with Dom Morrison at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 13th at the Self Made Training Facility in Temecula. I was very clear with Mr. Morrison about my training goals. He assured me that he would be able to help me surpass my goals. He was unable to offer any real insight on any of the goals that I had. He proceeded to "train me" by having me run up and down the street and do push-ups outside. 3/14/21:Mr. Morrison proceeded to make me walk around aimlessly for approximately 40 minutes on a trail that he admitted he was unfamiliar with. He told me to climb down hills that I was not comfortable climbing to the point that I had to crawl down out of fear that I would seriously injure myself. My phone fell out of my pocket and my screen cracked as a result of his terrible "training". I don't even want to imagine what could have happened to ME if I had not stooped to crawling down the hills. 3/15/21: Mr. Morrison arrived late to the "training session" wearing his pajamas. He originally asked me to meet him at the gym at 5:00 a.m. (this was before he charged me $1,440. It was even on his poorly-crafted training "plan" (the one he is currently trying to charge me $200 for). He called me to ask me what time we were supposed to be meeting. I had already warmed up for over ten minutes on my own at that point. I asked Mr. Morrison how I should begin the session. He told me to do sit ups by myself while he chatted with his friend on the other side of the gym. He was nowhere near me to TRAIN ME??!! He finally came over after his chat was done. He had me do "lat pull downs". He could not pick the correct weight for me. He made me do repetitions incessantly until my hands developed painful calluses. He then proceeded to inform me that I would be doing those exercises and some other exercises independently from then on. (What would he be doing while I was doing those I wondered... ) Then it was time for a run. Mr. Morrison proceeded to get in his car, he pointed to a spot on the curb, told me that that would be my starting point. He drove to the spot where he wanted me to run to and he told me that I would then turn around and run back to the original spot on the curb that he had pointed to. He told me he would be waiting at the gym to "make sure I ran it." Then it hit me: He was instructing me to run by myself. In the dark. In the rain. It became increasingly harder for me to understand why Mr. Morrison was advertising himself as a "personal trainer" if he was not going to offer me the support, coaching, motivation, or tips that I needed to reach my goals. It was pitch black outside and it was raining. It was extremely unsafe for me to run the two-mile distance that he highlighted for me while HE was in the safety of his car or in the gym chatting with friends. I politely voiced my concern about running alone and he replied w/, "Oh, so you want me to run with you? WOULD THAT MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER? HUH?" I paid him $150 for the three TERRIBLE HOURS that he "trained" me. He is now trying to charge my credit card $1,290 for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING other than a horrific experience. read more

Love this Gym. Very knowledgeable trainers. A gym for all levels. They have great kids programs, and a lot of great elite trainers. I train with Sean Shannon of Fit Train, he knows how to sculpt the body. I came in and learned so much from him. I was experienced in weight lifting, but not body building. Sean ended up getting me prepped for my first Competition. Never would I have ever thought I would do a Competition in my life. But he gave me a plan to follow and we made it happen!! I couldn't have done it without him. I lost over 40lbs and lost a ton of body fat. I was shocked of my results! As long as you follow his plan it works. Hands down one of the best trainers in there. He knows his stuff. The facility is very large and has a lot of machines and free weights. There is so much variety. It's the perfect place to train. I really enjoy training there. I had a bad experience with one of the trainers at the Temecula location. I paid the trainer $400 up front for the month of training at this gym, the trainer then went MIA. I could not get a hold of him for couple weeks. I was able to get the name of the owner of the gym from a friend of mine who also went to the gym. I called the owner and he related that the gym is not responsible and said basically I was out of luck and it's unfortunate. I have since switched gyms and now have every confidence at my new gym that when I pay for a month of workouts, I will actually get a month of workouts. read more

This place has nothing but good reviews and here's another. Self Made is clean, well maintained and has every piece of equipment you could think of to keep your workouts interesting and motivating. I have been working with Cynthia Gonzales and she is simply incredible. She is always communicating, making sure you're staying on track to meet your goals, and genuinely cares about how her clients are progressing. I have worked out with probably a dozen trainers in my time and no one comes close to her. I've made the best progress EVER and that's speaking at 10 weeks in. I started not knowing even were to start and she walked me through the whole process, from meal prepping, to knowing what kind of supplements to use, You can tell she loves her job with the dedication she puts in each work out, she is always available for any questions and is able to work around my busy schedule. Been getting in some amazing training and recovery here with Jason Shirley since reinjuring my neck/upper back after my last trip to Samoa. The facility is legit to say the least. My recovery is progressing nicely and with the extra bonus of his IASTM (instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization) I've been able to start training jiu jitsu again, still not surfing but progress is progress and my neck is feeling way better/stronger. The recovery/soft tissue work is insane, helps improve range of motion and break up the knots that slowly start to sneak back in after a long week. As someone who trains constantly and religiously for years, I'm extremely knotted up and tight, which gets into the way of my workouts. For the last few weeks I've been seeing Charity for iastm/scrapping and I've noticed a big improvement with my lifts. I don't have nearly as much shoulder pain as I used to and I'm feeling I'm able to move and perform better while training. There aren't enough words words I can use to describe how much love and respect I have for my coach, Jane Joaquin. Her story moved me and has inspired me to go for something I've been wanting for the better part of a year. I have gone through a few trainers before her but none have gotten me the same results. What a fantastic idea for a gym! The business model of Self Made is highly professional, vetted trainers who are each given freedom to run their own businesses within the gym. This gym is very private with appointment-only workouts with trainers, so the equipment is available, people are very respectful of each other's space, and everyone gets along. The vibe is great -- very positive and focused on pushing yourself but also chill and happy. There are not groups of dude-bros milling around monopolizing one station for 45 minutes while posing for instagram. The one downside is no showers--bummer for people who would work out then head directly to work. But they make up for it in variety and quality of equipment with everything always in working order. You never see those annoying "sorry, this machine is broken" sign that sits for months like at many other gyms. As for specific trainers, I highly recommend Franco (Franco's Lifestyle Fitness) for his knowledge, skill, and personality. read more

My trainer John Watson is hands down the most thorough and passionate coach I've ever met. He is super detailed in designing the program that fit me, my lifestyle and my goals. I gained 20 pounds of muscle in two months and increased my strength tremendously. For example I started out only being able to do 2 (yes two) wide grip pull ups body weight. In two months I was up to three sets of 10 pull ups body weight. And went from 80 lb dumbells as my highest rep weight on incline press to using 120lb dumbells. Being an athlete all my life and bodybuilding on and off for the past 4 years, I was just looking to get a bit of extra motivation and learn a few new things I could take with me. To say the least, I have never been so sore in my entire life. Training with Autumn (the owner) is unlike anything you'll ever do! She mixes lifting with circuit/cardio training which leaves your heart rate well above 140 at all times. I would usually lift at my own pace and very heavy for 8-9 reps.. My heart rate was always low except during a lift, and after it was back to normal. I would sweat minimally until I went to go do cardio. Now my lifting and cardio are combined and it saves so much time! I'm burning 5-800 calories an hour working with Autumn, and I couldn't be any happier! Self Made Training Is THE BOMB! read more

I've worked with Junie Sunga (@changethe6ame) for about 5 months. When I first started I had a hard time running 2 laps around the building, but when I met him I let him know my goals to be a better athlete and loose body fat. 5 months later we did just that. Junie found my limits and pushed them every single session. He did not let me give up and encouraged me to keep going. He constantly reminded me how important nutrition is as well.
