The worst possible customer service you can get!! I called them and scheduled a hitch installation. When I went on the day I had the reservation for, the lady at the counter told me my hitch wasn't there so "sorry but you need to come back another day" I asked why they didn't call me and she did not have an answer. Called after 3 weeks asking for an update on the parts, they told me "your hitch is here" I asked, "why didn't you called me?" they did not have an answer either. I scheduled again my appointment, they confirmed it for 8 am, I called the day before to be sure nothing had changed (didn't want to drive again for nothing) Jim, on the phone told me, " your appointment is at 11" I asked " Why did you send me a reservation email for an 8 am appointment then" he did not have an answer. I finally got the hitch installed, next time I will pay more somewhere else instead of dealing with them. read more

This place is the absolute worst. There are countless other places to go to in Pasadena (heres one where the guy is very helpful and even helped me adjust my mirrors Uhaul Neighborhood 3202 Foothill). I have no idea why anyone would ever rent from this Raymond location as I NEVER WILL AGAIN. I had an all-day move and by far the worst part of the whole experience was my interaction with this company. The 24/7 pickup saw me standing in this shady area of Pasadena that is known for crime and riff-raff in an empty parking lot for nearly an hour waiting at 7am. The truck was left with nearly zero gas so I had to rush to a gas station and the side mirror was loose which required me to pull over countless times throughout the day to adjust it. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS WAY TO GIVE A TRUCK TO SOMEONE. Also, as a bonus, THERE IS NO PARKING HERE!! Don't worry, they won't mention that at all, either verbally or with signs. But what they did do, was park a u-haul truck in front of my car to block it in so that when I came back at midnight, after an 18 hour day, I could not get my car. So I had to call my Wife to come pick me up in this industrial, vacant and crime-ridden area after midnight. Then I came back the following day to pick up the car and was treated to an attitude from the guy there who said that I was lucky because the tow truck was already on the way. He said "oh your the client who parked there by mistake?". This shows the disdain they have for their customers. He knew full-well that this was a customer's car and decided to have it towed anyway Almost forgot the best part, this worker, then refused to move the truck that was blocking my car. He was presumably trying to force it to be towed by pretending that he had no idea where the keys were to the truck. Then the keys magically appeared once the manager got involved. Do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else and when your car isn't towed and you are a given a safe truck, thank me later. UPDATE: And as if their excellent service and overall nightmare experience wasn't enough, they also make up nickel and dime fees to charge you (fees which Ive never been charged before- and I rent trucks all the time). I very rarely need a rental truck but today my son was completing his Eagle Project and he needed the truck to move his project of a large wooden bench Upon return of the truck, this man attempted to scam him! He accused him of leaving the truck dirty but in reality there was just one single leaf of which I have plenty of pictures as evidence. This man attempted to charge him an extra 25 dollars for taking the air hose to blow out the back of a truck for less than one minute! Then, when questioned about this, this man began yelling and screaming and pointing his finger at me and in in turn accusing me of threatening him! Then the man actually threatened me when I was attempting to share my story with a female because I was attempting to warn her about the fraud that this man tried to commit. The man reversed his attitude when my husband filed a complaint with customer service. While we were waiting to resolve this I over heard multiple people complaining of being over charged! It is obvious that this u haul facility needs to re evaluate their staff and customer service policy. I'm tired of going to this business with money in my pocket and having every one of the employees acting like they are doing me a favor. Only reason I've gone to this business is because it's close to my home. It doesn't matter if I want to refill my propane tank or buy boxes. When you drive up, there are aggressive day laborers accosting you. It's almost always a hassle driving into the large lot because the worker bees are busy moving trucks around the lot and what they are doing is far more important than making a sale. Shauna was my rock here, super helpful and nice. We had a few hiccups with our rental and she answered all of my questions and directed me well when she couldn't help with things herself. Jim, on the other hand, continued to pick fights with me from the moment I walked up. He had a very short temper and when I was confused about policies not mentioned in our emailed instructions or when I asked about something as minor as where to find something he berated me for it and insulted me. He was openly annoyed when I showed up at my reserved time because it meant he had to get up and move something and he complained about it to my face and his coworkers, insulting me to them. Want to rent a recurring nightmare? I've had two experiences with this place. The first was a truck rental for a crosstown move. After loading up and heading out, my girlfriend--who was driving behind me--noticed all the brake lights on the truck were out and had to tail me throughout the move to make sure I didn't get rear ended. When I checked in and pointed out that they let a truck off the lot with no functioning brake lights, they acknowledged the problem with a "Huh, I thought that had been fixed. Guess not." A minor oversight in their eyes, I suppose. Stupidly, I went back and rented another truck a few months ago. The cab smelled like hobo piss and hot cheetos, but the brake lights worked fine. Two and a half months after the rental, U-Haul made an unauthorized charge on my credit card of over a hundred bucks and held it for a month before finally refunding it without explanation. Two conference calls between me, my credit card company and customer service got nothing but pissy denials from U-Haul, with a final admission of "some sort of human error" and a "we can't delete your card information from our system to prevent this from happening again" line of BS before the gum-chewing battleaxe in the call center hung up on us. Listen, if I'm going to operate an unauthorized loan shop for shady truck rental companies, I want 24% interest, monthly--and I want assurance that at least part of the money they're borrowing is going toward routine equipment maintenance and customer service training. read more

This review is for propane refill only. Stopped by mid afternoon on a Wednesday to get a refill on a new propane tank for the new grill at home. The propane refill area is close to Raymond on the exit side of the lot, next to the Public Storage building. It wasn't too busy and it didn't take too long. The going rate at the time of this review was $3.99 and my 20 lb tank was filled for about $20. Not sure if we're supposed to smell gas while or tanks are being filled, but I did smell it. You can pay right outside with a credit card or with cash inside the building. I can imagine how busy they can get with the truck rentals on the weekends but if you have 5 minutes on a weekday and only need a propane refill, I think I'd recommend it. read more

1. The vehicles are banged up and scratched. That's fine, but then you shouldn't try to charge customers for bringing back vehicles with dings and scratches that were already there. It's not reasonable to expect customers to document 18 different damaged sections when renting the vehicle. Trying to charge customers for missing one of the 18 dings and scratches in the initial inspection is dishonest. 2. The roof was filthy, covered with bird crap, and the dirt was streaked in multiple spots. When I returned it 90 minutes later, it was still dirty, of course, but the employee who checked it in decided that one of the streaks of dirt actually was a scratch. Of course, in my initial inspection, I had not gotten on the roof of the more-than-seven foot tall van to document every streak of dirt that might or might not have been a scratch. It's not reasonable to expect customers to do that during the check out inspection. 3. I asked the employee who helped with the check-out whether I should worry about scuff marks or just dents, and he explicitly said, "just dents." The employee who handled the check-in was definitely concerned about every scuff or imperfection, no matter how small. This is another dishonest tactic: telling people not to worry about trivial damage when checking out the vehicle, and then charging people for trivial, but undocumented, damage when checking in the vehicle. 4. The call center explicitly said that there is no extra charge for after-hours drop-off, but when you get to the location to pick up your vehicle, they tell you there is a fee for after-hours drop-off. Again, dishonest to say there is not a fee over the phone and then charge a fee in person. 5. The employees at the location do not answer the phone. Calls just get transferred to the national call center, so there's no way to contact anyone at the actual location except to go there in person. 6. The first van they tried to give me had apparently been returned empty, so the cashier offered me a fuel credit of $24 if I agreed to return the tank 1/4 full. The cashier claimed this was equivalent to $5.25 per gallon. However, when I asked what the size of the tank is, it turns out the tank is 31 gallons. Luckily, I am good at mental math, so I was able to quickly realize that this was yet another dishonest tactic. 1/4 of a 31 gallon tank is 7.75 gallons. At $5.25 per gallon, this would cost me way more than $24. Even at the actual fuel price at the local gas station, $4.29, this would have been insufficient. Other people are not good at math and would not have realized they were getting ripped off. read more

I've had to use the U-Haul a few times in my life, it's no biggie. It's actually pretty standard. What will fuck you up is the people that walk in there and don't know the proper protocol. It's like being at the post office sometimes. You'd be surprised as to how many folks do not know how to rent what from a moving company. It's friggin' U-Haul, not brain surgery. If you rent out a truck and use any of the accessories, your ass has to pay. What part of that do you not understand? If you do not want to pay, do not break off the seal. Oh, and they offer no-fault insurance for an added charge, I'd get it just so I won't have to worry. If you decide to use your own insurance, it turns into a hassle. I'd rather have the luxury/option of driving one of these big bastards off the side of the road and not go through my own insurance company, and let them handle it. Oh, and these guys have that program where you can rent out a truck, and drop it off at another branch. That's very convenient, but make sure you ask. Better safe than being a moron. read more

Some time ago we rented the lone truck that Allen Avenue Self Storage had...they don't have a lot of trucks, but at least they're not excruciatingly unpleasant like this U-Haul location is. Pick up time: 8am Our arrival time: 7:50am TONS of people (not U-Haul's fault, obviously) BUT ...simply NO excuse for us not getting out of there with a truck til close to 10am. We were only 5th in line for the truck... Employees work exceptionally slow. Employees apparently didn't even show up to work (2 of them). Finally waited in our line for the truck at close to 9:30 and the truck they have is BROKEN. They go and modify the contract to get us a new truck..more time passes. I don't know why there are so many bad reviews for this place. I have been here twice already, once with my sister when she was packing up her stuff and now again by myself. Both times, the staff was super helpful. This time around, I was greeted by an employee before I even walked through the door. He asked me what I needed help with and helped me pick the items I need. I already looked around online a bit and realized that they have pretty great deals for their moving supplies. I opted for the 20 boxes bundle for a little over $40. They will buy back any boxes you don't use as long as you bring back your receipt. Their shipping tapes are also very cheap compared to store like Target. read more

Going to the U-haul is like going to the DMV, it's a painful experience full of people who do not know what to do when they are actually being helped, and filled with incompetent employees who do not know the meaning of speed. The last time I came here 3 years ago, I waited forever in line because a girl had returned a truck 2 hours before and left her cell in the truck. The u-haul employee who found it actually took the cell home with him. The girl then proceeded to yell at everyone (rightfully so) and threatened the girl at the counter (big mistake - you don't mess with a chola) and a fight was about to ensue before another manager sent the chola to the back. Yesterday I went down to pick up my car, 3 employees in 3 lines, I was next, but it still took 30 minutes to get to the counter. the 2nd employee took 20 minutes - 20 MINUTES! - to tape 4 pieces of paper together and write "Walk-in customers: Use 3rd line to the right" that's it. 20 minutes to do that and to hang it on the door. I reserved online thinking it would save time but that's just a tease. Also a tease - the rates. Online it's $10 for a dozen furniture pads which I reserved - except when I got to the truck - it was $10 for 6. What a racket. The computer also claimed the gas tank was full, but it wasn't. When you do notice discrepancies that they sign off on, remember to bring the paper. I had to go back to the apartment because the only record of the gas tank NOT being full is the paper they gave me - otherwise they would've charged me $3 per gallon that never existed to begin with. read more

We went to this U-Haul location this past week because we're moving, which is weird on its own due to the current pandemic. LA has a requirement that people wear masks as a precaution to prevent spreading the virus. When we went inside to get moving supplies one employee was barely wearing his mask properly, which I'm not thrilled about, but I'm not going to complain seeing it was more or less on right. When he asked us what we needed we told him we had a corporate certificate to cover supplies and he directed us to another employee. This employee, unlike his colleague, was wearing his mask around his chin, so I politely asked him to put his mask on. He pulled it up a bit more and told me it was ok because were 6ft apart, but the tone of this statement was clearly: Go screw yourself. Even after explaining that I have asthma and other autoimmune disorders he ignored me and made the situation as awkward as possible. As he tried to figure out what we were trying to pay with and how to enter it in the system he made a comment about how Art Center, the art school down the street, would handle it, which again was clearly a jab at us. I get students might not be the easiest to deal with at times, but you are near to major colleges (Caltech is down the street) cut the attitude. And to be clear we aren't student, and we are relocating because of work, who was paying for the move... not that that really makes a difference. It's bad enough you have the attitude to make low blow attacks to random customers, but to not care about spreading a virus to people at work, even after they asked because of their health issues... Even when your work clearly expects you to wear a mask and maintain social distance seeing the floors have stickers and tape all over them, and other protocols visibly put into place to protect both the workers and the customers. This experience was rather annoying, and now I have to further worry about my health because of this employees refusal to do something as simple as wearing a mask. I don't expect anything from the employee, its clear that he will never wear a mask, and I really hope that doesn't catch up with him, but I do expect the management of this location to do something. read more

This UHAUL kept me waiting for 20 minutes, only to find out they messed up my reservation! The guy at the desk seemed like he was stoned. EXTREMELY stoned and slow and apathetic. It took forever to get out of there, and on a day you obviously have your work cut out for you, losing time waiting is not acceptable. They also tried to screw me on the gas, and if you return it with less gas than you supposedly took it with, they charge an astronomical "refueling fee". Make sure you take note of the gauge, even though there isn't a way to accurately measure. They mark down the fuel gauge on the contract and have you sign it. Of course I was in such a hurry, I just signed it without looking and had to put in more gas than I used. You have plenty of choices, but if you get stuck using uhaul, just prepare to be irritated, watch them like a hawk, and give yourelf extra time so dopey can navigate the program. I tried to buy some boxes here today. There was only one guy manning the counter and I ended up behind this girl and her boyfriend that couldn't seem to accept a simple fact that she fucked up with some sort of dolly rental and needed to bring back the one she took by mistake so she didn't get charged or some such. The guy behind the counter called over his talkie three or four times for some assistance to get the line moving, but none ever came. Anyway, I must've stood behind her for a full ten minutes before giving up and putting my boxes and tape back and leaving. It was ridiculous. There were more customers behind me by that time, and my mother said that two people behind me left before I decided to give up. We tried to go back after visiting Whole Foods and the line was EVEN LONGER AND you could not get into the lot because people returning their rental trucks decided to park them in the parking area instead of the rental lane. I just said "Screw it," and headed to the staples to buy myself a couple of smaller boxes to tide me over. I've been to this u-haul before to rent a truck, and that was a headache of it's own, too. I think I repressed the details of that memory. Needless to say, their service sucks and they're not very clear (except when they are, but the customer's brain is thick as custard). read more

I brought the gas back exactly as I was told to and was still charged $50+ in gas and fees which is extremely frustrating because now I have to deal with this during a very busy weekend. Details - the computer said the gas tank was at 1/4 full, but when we went to the truck it was actually between 1/8 and 1/4 full, which the guy marked on my paper and just told me to leave the paper on the seat when I did my after hours return. I drove approximately 35 miles and put about $15 into the tank, which means I filled the tank up to EXACTLY where it was when I picked the car up and somehow they're saying they had to put $20 in gas into the truck and charged me a $30 gas fee. That is IMPOSSIBLE. And what makes this extremely sketchy is that they're claiming it cost them $20 in gas to refill the 1/16th of a tank that they said I was short. That's also impossible. I feel totally taken advantage of!!! I called to resolve it but she said "I'm not at that location so I can't help you." I waited 3+ hours for someone at that location to call me back but nobody did. Everyone was super nice and helpful when I picked up the truck, I just have a problem with whoever processed my return. Update: they did end up refunding the money but only after i spent an hour out of my day driving down here to get it resolved in person because they refused to help me over the phone or call me back - NOT RECOMMENDED!!!! read more

Like those before me, rarely will you go through this coming out happy with the service. You'd probably get a better experience just giving someone $100 and having them beat you up and berate you. I reserved online, the 10' truck, got there, all seemed fine, but was advised of a long list of fees, including gas level (if I don't return at same level, I pay $30, plus almost $4 per gallon, so let's say it starts with a 1/2 tank and I bring it back at a 1/4 of a tank, that would cost me approx $20 plus $30 for a total of $50 assuming it's a 20 gallon tank. It's a scam. Then, that $19 a day haha yeah right, then it's about $1 a mile so if you drive anywhere, AND we had a 4 hour window to do this. So we got everything that couldn't fit in a car on one trip, stopped at gas station, returned it. The guy seemed disappointed we filled it past the level so we couldn't get charged more, got statement all is fine but wasn't a great experience Like another reviewer mentioned, the lady was there but she avoided dealing with anyone, must be nice in this day and age to have a job and avoid work while still collecting a paycheck. Be very careful if you're returning your uhaul after hours at this location. Two evenings ago I was in a terrifying situation where a homeless, decidedly schizophrenic woman was lurking in the shadows on the premises of this location and, came at me, and decided to attack me, totally unprovoked. Needless to say it was very terrifying and could have been easily prevented had the staff forwarded me that there is a homeless facility just a short ways down the street and they are having increasing amounts of problems after hours with homeless people trespassing and hiding inside trucks or other areas. (Which they told me AFTERWARDS). This woman was out of her mind and was very intent on physically and verbally doing me great harm. Fortunately I was able to break free and run to my Uber van. (Which she tried to climb into and attack me until we fled away). Under normal circumstances I would not want a partial refund but for goodness sake! (Of course they didn't offer any). I used UHAUL for a one-way trip this January, moving from NorCal to SoCal, and my experince when returning the UHUAL in Pasadena was horrible! We waited for 30 minutes before being helped. They also told me I have to fold the furniture blankets/pads or else they will charge me extra. I was already upset with the long wait, and now they're teling me to go inside the truck and fold the dusty blankets? I wouldn't mind if I received the blankets folded, however, the NorCal UHAUL just tossed the blankets in! Went in to this uhaul location last Saturday to pick up some boxes and tape and see about reserving a dolly for our move in a week. Called up before heading out and the lady on the phone told me no issues with reserving a dolly, just go in and see the staff. Ok, all set. First issue. When we pulled into the parking lot, our car got tackled by a several of the independent moving guys. My wife is from a foreign country and it looked like 3 homeless beggars were running up to the car to beg for money to her so she was a bit shocked to say the least. Anyway, they seemed to get a kick out of that so I fucked with them a little on the way out to give them a taste of their own sarcastic meds. (I got them all excited over a job then took off out of there). Anyway, second issue. Went in to inquire about the dolly rental. The guy behind the counter quickly said there are no reservations and it is first come first serve. I asked about my chances to get a dolly for the following weekend if i came first thing in the morning, he then curtly snapped that they didn't have any left in that location and had no idea when they would be available. He then changed his mind and tone and said that I would need to buy a new one. I scoffed at his answer and just got our boxes and tape and blew out of there. As issue 2.5, my friend called up earlier today for me (this is actually what inspired me to write up this review) and he got the same rude response, which is to go bugger off. Third issue. After opening the door, I noticed there were 3 dollies around the corner not being used. It didn't appear they were new. So that convinced me this location is no good and doesn't care about their customers. I am assuming that these locations are franchises, and I was going to make a suggestion to the location owner but thought better of it and didn't want to waste my time. The guy's that work here are always helpful. I bought a piece of furniture and needed a flat bedtruck ASAP. The lot is fairly large so they usually have a variety of trucks on hand. In and out, quick and painless to get the truck and return. That being said, they constantly have people standing on the corner leading into the parking lot looking for work. I usually drive straight in and go towards the office but I can see how it can be unpleasant with the hootin and hollerin. These guys typically stand on the sidewalk (not UHaul's lot) so not sure what the business can really do about that. My major gripe is that the number listed on yelp is for their call center. ABSOLUTELY USELESS. I made the mistake of calling to see if I could confirm they had a truck on site and what the cost would be. After being on the phone for what seemed like an eternity, I was still not able to get a straight answer. It seems that the call center employees may be paid a commission for orders placed over the phone but sorry, I had no interest in doing so. Let's just say things got awkward. Rented a large uhaul in riverside and everything was fine. As we were driving on the freeway through Pasadena the driver side mirror fell off. Just like that, gone. So we drove to the nearest uhaul dealer and this is the place we came to hoping to have a new mirror just put on and back on the road we'd be. Pulled into the uhaul place to find a dozen trucks the same size as ours. All that it needed was a mirror inserted and to have the retaining screw screwed in (which is why it fell off). Anyway, they were zero help. Wouldn't install another mirror or even attempt to assist us. It was literally a screw, we just needed a mirror. Anyway we had to sit in their parking lot and call roadside assistance to come fix our uhaul AT THE UHAUL DEALER!!!! Junk service and will never use uhaul again. read more

If you need a truck, they have a whole lot of them. Plus, they charge the same price for a 10ft and 14ft truck. They are shorthanded though. We had to wait for the main person to get off the phone since the other person seemed to not know how to do anything. However, the person in charge of getting the truck was nice and quick. He was also reasonable in marking the correct gas gauge and the scratches that were already on the truck. Be careful not to get tricked by the day laborers - you don't have to use them. The other thing is to make sure to check what you are/aren't renting - OPEN the back of the truck. My friend and I forgot to do that and the dolly was already off its tied down spot. We ended up using it because it was already cut (they typically tie it down with a ziptie), but that could have saved us 8 dollars(?). Overall, they're there if you need a truck. read more

I've used this location twice now. Uhaul is UHaul. They charged for mileage and for gas. That's just the business model and I don't hold that against them. Their one of the cheaper places to rent anyway since I've checked 2-3 other competitors. This particular location has been particularly kind to me. They're fast and friendly and get me on my way out. Plus the cashier (Gary) was helpful in pointing out the free boxes behind me and clearly pointing out everything on my contract so I understand it completely. I've been here three times; twice to rent vehicles and once to get propane. To rent a vehicle here, it's relatively painless, but BE SURE to take a picture of your odometer when you return it! They do paperless receipts when you return a truck. In my case the guy charged me 70 extra miles. He also tried to mark the truck as having a full tank of gas when it was down to 7/8 ths. Very shady. The next week I was able to get refunded the difference after spending 40 minutes in the store with the manager. Getting propane was no easier. The guy filling the tanks up was more interested in singing (loudly) to himself, heckling customers and eating starburst (loudly) than helping people get out of line. With one person in front of me, it took over 20 minutes to fill up a 5 gallon propane tank halfway. Pros: -It's there if you NEED a Van or Propane. The staff are mean, unhelpful, and impolite. I will never be going back. Tried to move a trailer out of my way so I could drive the rental back and they flipped out and forced me to move it back, after which point they moved it to an entirely new place- just trying to prove a point. These people are scum & shady! Avoid them at all costs! I was harassed by an employee. The employee was condescending and rude with an attitude. I said I didn't need the attitude. He said "I don't need the attitude" right back to me. Wow! This is how you run a business? He was not wearing his name tag and would not tell me his name. Big surprise. In fact many employees weren't wearing their name tags as required. When I filed a complaint with the CEO he said ALL employees should always be wearing their name tag. I spoke with the assistant manager to get the employees name to file a complain. The assistant manager would not tell me the employee's name either and the assistant manager himself wasn't wearing a name tage. This place is super shady!! I then went to the store manager (who again wasn't wearing his name tag) and explained what happened but he could care less and felt inconvenienced that I was telling him what was going on in his own store. I'm seeing a pattern here now. I see why this location is rated super low on yelp. Also, some employee including the store manager were not wearing face masks as mandated by executive order in the state of California by the governor. Don't go here! Avoid this location. HORRIBLE SERVICES HERE! The guys are rude they act like they don't even wanna work here! You go in and they don't even acknowledge you! And the prices are high you guys in and they start adding all these prices to your trip! Bad enough they are rude and then they start saying you having to pay for this and that! Never going to this U-Haul again!!! Plus when we took the truck back they tried saying we hit something and bumped the truck and were talking to us in a rude way!! That wasn't true at all we never hit anything, they had to go back and recheck and then said they were mistaken! Horrible services! Don't go to this one! read more

I rented a truck from U-Haul Pasadena store, I only drove the truck "14.7" miles, but was charged for 3 gallons of fuel (@$4.25/gal). That says this truck only gets 5 miles to the gallon? I don't think so! I emailed the General Manager twice to look into this issue and have not gotten an answer. Since I didn't get a call or email explaining the overcharge, I filed a BBB Complaint. read more

Watch out for this one! They will pin on you ANY damage, smudge, scrape they find in the vehicle when you return it. If some employee neglected to detect damage caused by the previous user(s), they will pin it on you. Yes, they tell you to point at damages when you pick up, but if you see a smudge (on a cargo rental vehicle, for Pete's sake!) and you don't report it as damage, it will be on you. They're like piranhas, so be careful. read more

I usually don't write reviews but I am so frustrated at this point. I have rented vehicles from this location on numerous occasions but definitely will never return. They over charged me for my mileage. When I picked up the vehicle and arrived at my house I notice the vehicle was no cleaned. Half burned cigarette in the passenger seat. I returned to the location so they could remove it and clean the vehicle they simply removed it and sent me on my way. Stay away from this location go to another uhaul or use a different company. Especially with them not cleaning their vehicle in the middle of COVID. read more
