The disappointment is real! So much so that I don't even know where to begin. I guess I'll start with the fact that there Cuban sandwiches are NOT EVEN ON CUBAN BREAD, it's on hoagie bread. Yep you read that correctly it's A self-proclaimed Cuban sandwich on hoagie bread. Now I could get past that one BIG fact (Bc who doesn't love fresh pressed Cuban) if the actual sandwich was good but they literally had two slices of chopped ham or (cooked ham depending on were ur from) pan fried with DRY FLAVER LESS COOKED PORK, then one slice of tomato cut in half small amount of shredded lettuce and no Swiss.... I've never had Cuban without Swiss on it. We did order them pressed ... but the press must have been broken that day Bc the only thing that was pressed that day was me and my family. Thank god we own a press bc my boyfriend save the whole day by property pressing them with garlic and herb butter. That was literally the only thing that made the sandwiches palatable. It's a hard thing to make a good grinder. It needs to be cheap, fast, and good, or, at least good enough. It needs to taste like it came off a well-worked griddle, and It needs to be just left of "too greasy," and just right of "what decade was this bread baked?" Like a cheap NY slice, it's a fine balancing act of using good ingredients, good technique even more, but keeping it working class. This place pulls it off, I think. The bread was a real winner here. Soft, pillowy, not stale, and really well toasted on the griddle (with real butter as far as I could taste). A vessel well suited to carrying a payload of thin sliced beef, itself picking up plenty of crispy bits from its time on the griddle, and a good ratio of melty American cheese. And some onions, which you think would be something easy to do on a cheesesteak, but gets done dirty so often. They nailed the onions, imo. Right in between caramelized and raw. Soft, but they hold their form. Al dente, I guess you could say. Oh, and yeah, it's in a gas station. Almost feel like its a gimmick mentioning it. Personally, I don't have qualms with getting food from a gas station, the place is clean and professional, and you can buy a six-pack on your way out if you want. The workers do seem a little cramped though, shoved in the corner of this Chevron. Hopefully they do well enough to get a dedicated place near by, I'd like to see what they do with the added space. I'll be back, and maybe even upgrade the score once I've tried more. It's certainly on my shortlist for something cheap, fast, and good, or, at least good enough. read more

I'm from California and food from a gas station is not a thing lol! My sister had moved out to Florida and kept bringing these Cuban sandwiches with her when she would visit. She eventually told us she got them from a Chevron gas station. I was in awe lol these Cuban sandwiches are AMAZING! Not only are they affordable but you get your money's worth! We come here all the time now and to be honest it's the best Cuban we've tried! Every time friends come visit we take buy them Cuban sandwiches and they end up leaving with some to take back home. At the request of the owner, Kathleen, we went back today to try the steak sub again. This time It had white American cheese, extra peppers and onions and as last time, plenty of steak. This sandwich was not dry at all and was very good. I only needed to add a bit of salt and pepper once we got it home. I'm very happy I did go back. So hard to find good sandwich makers these days. This place is seriously a hidden gem. We live across the street in Summerfield and order from here constantly. The breakfast sandwiches are decent but the real winner is their Philly Cheesesteak. Legitimately brought me and my mom back to the chicken place we used to swing by ridiculously often back in SC, perfect and delicious mixture of BBQ and mild. Wings were way overdone. Too crispy and really couldn't get that juicy chicken bite you want from a wing. They also were very small. Not the same quality you find at other wing joints. We are new to the area, and saw the reviews prior to our visit. I ordered the Cuban which is good, and has lots of flavor. I'm going to hold off on a full review until I try the steak and meatball subs which the lady at the front desk says are the best. I paid 12 bucks for two subs which I believe is the smaller option for their subs. In addition to a great price point they are open 7am to 8pm which is outstanding. I love the steak sub from this joint it's in the Chevron near the Summerfield elementary school off of Big Bend. I've had subs from philly as I lived in New York for several years and they don't compare to the steak philly at Selfie. These folks make some awesome subs and some of the best around. My husband and I order Selfies Subs from Uber Eats at least once a week. Tonight my 1/2 Cuban was too well done (burned) on both sides. I called Selfies. They admitted they had left it in the press too long. They tried to contact Uber Eats to send out a new sandwich, but Uber Eats said they couldn't do it, I would have to. So, Selfies personally just delivered me a WHOLE Cuban. 1. They are honest - they admitted they screwed up 2. They found a solution and owned that solution, so I didn't need to, and 3. One of my favorite sandwich shops. Their breakfast subs are excellent and so are all their others. The family run business is fast friendly and reasonably priced. The portions are huge. The half sandwiches are about the size of the large ones elsewhere. I typically get wholes and have at least the other half or more for another meal. Everything is to go since I do not recall any seating. The business is tucked inside a gas station/convenience store, but don't let that fool you or put you off.
