When we walked in and no one was speaking english, I knew we found the right spot. The lady behind the counter was helpful in assisting us with what to order. We ordered a pastor burrito, quesadilla, and two papusas. I think our order total was around $25 or $30, which is unheard of (especially for us over-orderers). The food was great, while I think the pastor was a little under-seasoned (from what we are used to), overall we very much enjoyed everything we ordered. We will definitely be returning! read more

Had a steak burrito and it was excellent! It's not Mexican but they serve burritos. Plus the have fried plantains which was yummy.

While in the area due to my son's baseball tournaments close by my wife decided to try this little local gem and believe me it was worth it. Sorry for the photos of empty plates but... I couldn't let this little gem slide by without being given the proper respect it deserves. It's located in a mini mall lot with parking. What a great place to find Salvadoran food in Sarasota. Love pupusas which are corn pancake like stuffed with cheese, veggies, & or pork etc. served with the Cole slaw. It's so good and for something that seems so small and simple it is so good and filling. I also had a Salvadoran tamale. They have the Mexican ones and sweet corn ones as well. The diff is the one I had is not spicy and it had chicken potatoes and carrots.The Mexican one is spicy. My husband had their sopes which he really enjoyed. This food was pretty popular bc the whole place as packed and many orders also to go. Soccer is on the TV and some El Salvador decs on the wall. Ok I must admit, after moving back to Florida, but in the Bradenton Sarasota area we have been looking for good places to eat. Some have been found whereas others are a waste of money. Bitia's is fantastic ! The prices are incredibly reasonable and the portions are great. The food is all home made. They offer papusa, sope, tacos, quesadillas, soups and more. You can choose from several options. Among them are Carnitas, Barbacoa, chicken, carne asada and more. I haven't ordered the soups yet but I'm told they are huge. Woot hoot this place is amazing. It was full of customers around 11am and plenty more coming thru the door. Great selection of meats to create a taco, burritos, sopas and/or platters. If you're in the area you HAVE to try Bitia's Taqueria. They do offer a sit down if you want to dine in and there's a parking lot. The tacos themselves were so full of meat and toppings and flavorful. I am still drooling as I think about Bitia's taqueria. I will have to go back when I go back to Sarasota, Florida again. Service was fast we only waited less than 10 minutes for our food and the ambiance is a very homey feel inside. My first Pupusa My wife came up with the idea of having dinner at Bitia's and I scrambled to figure out what I would order. Yelp reviews raved about their Pupusas, what was a Pupusa? I finally decided they were like Arepas, which I'm not fond of, but I must try one anyway to review. Turned out it was similar to Arepas but the tortilla was slimmer and while there wasn't a great amount of pork and cheese filling, there was enough. It came with a container of pickled cabbage. Actually, I think I liked it because I was having fun trying to eat it with my hands like I saw on Youtube videos. It was so hot, think melted cheese inside, I couldn't hold it to pinch some of that pickled cabbage. I was using a knife and fork to construct my bite of food, then used my fingers to feed myself. What a newbie. I also tried 3 tacos. Inexpensive but small, made of the meat of my choice, cilantro, and chopped onion. Limes were included to squeeze on some juice. Nestled in a plaza in south Sarasota amongst a Chilean restaurant, and British and Scottish pub, and a crazy hair joint - Bitia's is 10 tables and a counter. Their open kitchen shows tacos warming and an endless supply of delicious papusas on a flattop as customers wander in. The menu is on a screen above the counter and in Spanish first. When my wife and I walked in, we stood out like a sore thumb amongst locals who had come for a Sunday lunch and ordered en Español. This is the type of place that if you feel alien - you have found something real. The tacos are legit. Corn shell tortillas with incredible meat fillings and the absolute minimum otherwise - raw white onion and cilantro. The salsa verde and roja is made available to you and both are great. The pupusas - the papusas! Masa grilled with caso fresco - plentiful caso fresco, along with beans or meat: extraordinary. Served with an exquisite curtido - nothing in UTC can compare. Bitia's is a hidden gem!!! It was so good that we came in 2 days in a row! On the first day, we ordered tacos galore: asada, barbacoa, pollo, carnitas, buche, chorizo, and pastor. My favorite was the pastor and my husband's was the barbacoa! We also ordered one of each tamale to try them all and compare which we liked best. I'm gonna be honest, we couldn't finish these after our tacos, so we saved them for breakfast the next day! We loved all of them; the sweet corn tamal was particularly delightful. The next day, we had to go back for the pupusas because we watched them make it by hand the day before and couldn't resist! We ordered one of each for lunch: loroco, frijoles, and a puerco, queso, and frijoles. We also ordered a pastor sope. The pupusas were huge and so flavorful! We can't wait to go back for more and try their sopas and platillos, and get more of that salsa roja! Moved to Sarasota recently and was despairing of ever finding my "favorite" taco restaurant. I'm so happy. I ordered the carne asada tacos. I also ordered a side of rice and beans just to test the cooks. Lastly, I ordered a couple of the Mexican tamales. It was all delicious. Fresh, so flavorful and seriously yummy. Authentic flavors. This place was packed on a Sunday afternoon, and was well worth the wait! The cashier was friendly, the tacos were delicious, and came out relatively fast, given how busy they were. We ended up eating ours in the car, as there were no open tables. A Columbian friend of mine introduced Bitia's to me a few years ago when I first came to the US. I was blown away then and even to this day. This place used to be 'a hole in the wall' with amazing food. They have since digitized and slightly expanded their menu without price increase and revamped the decor. It's a small venue, very casual and can sometimes get over crowded during peak lunch hours, but is it worth the wait? I think so! I usually get paposas ($2), tacos ($1.50) and something different each time I go. I've never left displeased. The ingredients are abundant in flavor and the tortillas are always filled to the brim. I've never had an issue with their service however, waiting on your food can take a little long during lunch hour or if you go with a large group. I have very high standards for Salvadoran food as my parents are both from Central America ... that being said, this food is good! I can't compare this food to my parents cooking because quite honestly, nothing is as good as theirs. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Central American food. I tried a couple of different items to make an accurate judgement on this little place. Pupusa revuelta (chicharrón, beans, and cheese): it was good! Although this is supposed to have beans, I couldn't really find them inside. The size was great and it was perfectly made! The chicharrón was good as well and the curtido (pickled cabbage) had a very good flavor! I was just missing the traditional tomato sauce it's served with. Tamal salvadoreño: the flavor was good, but the masa was a bit rich ... either too much oil/butter/lard. Not sure that I'd have it again though. I was a little surprised to find carrots inside as I don't think I've ever eaten a tamal with carrots. It was filled with pork, garbanzos, potatoes, and carrots. Taco de carnitas & sope de asada: both good and I would recommend! The carnitas had a distinct flavor as if spices were used in it, but it was good. The sope was huge especially for the price, but I felt like the overall it didn't have much flavor. The beans were pretty plain and the asada tasted more like bistec (simmered meat, not grilled).
