We've been extremely frustrated with the performance of Semper Solaris and their sub-contractors, and just filed a BBB report. The metrics tell our story of the addition of 3 power-walls to our solar roof (different company) system in the San Francisco bay area: -- 60 weeks since contract signing for a 12-16 week estimated install period, and system still not approved by the inspector, nor PGE meter installed. -- 2 almost complete installations when sub-contractor work 7 months into contract was rejected and completely removed by Semper Solaris and complete new installation made 11 months after contract, which then failed the inspection. -- 1 large missing check submitted to our bank after we reissued, and they cashed, a replacement check days earlier,,, an accounting error, but really? -- Dozens of emails and calls with very nice and warm customer service personnel with very poor support from their office to meet their commitments on many, many missed installation dates. -- 7 days of work in 60 weeks and we're still waiting, always ensuring someone is here to accommodate their many missed appointments, costing us time and money. If nothing else, then just 60 weeks and still waiting for completion! We hope the BBB can help us secure completion and would not award any stars, except for pleasant customer service and install crews. read more

From day one, this project has been a mess. Should have followed my gut and cancelled the project and gone with another company for my Tesla Powerwalls. Worst communication i have ever experienced. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but yet again, disappointed. I finally got a customer service rep who said he will handle the rest of the project scheduling, and yet again, disappointed. They didn't show up for an appointment to complete the installation (parts missing from last installation appointment). Customer Service rep so nice, really trying, but the company is so disorganized. They have provided incorrect information on applications, etc. I would like to say that Covid is to blame, but poor communication and disorganization can't be blamed on Covid. read more

The controller was ordered on December 9th and shipped January 19th. They are good and selling and installation but fall short with anything after that. read more

This is an update to my July review. I got a call from a woman from Semper Solaris the day of my review. She was going to take a "deep dive" and get everything straightened out. They had everything they needed to send the paperwork to get Permission to Operate from PG&E and she would take care of everything. Whoops! Apparently Semper Solaris never got the inspection done for the panels. Of course it wasn't their fault. They scheduled the inspection for 8/22. Inspection completed they needed the last payment I was never billed for. I said I wanted them to complete the project before I paid. They shut down the project. I asked what leverage I had if I made that payment. I was asked why wouldn't they do a good job for me? I said if you could tell me why you've done such a poor job so far, I'd be able to tell you why you'll continue to do a poor job. I paid. Finally got PTO 9/23. The Semper Solaris guy who was here for the August inspection, changed something, so I couldn't logon to the system. They rushed back out 6 weeks later, in October. I let them know the system wasn't generating the electricity they guaranteed? The Semper guy fixed it he said, there was an array not connected, he got it connected and left. Still not working properly. They came back 11/18 and still not right. He said it was a loose connection, but apparently not. He said they'd monitor the output for the next few days. I let the person who is on top of my project know, and she was going to look into it two weeks ago. I still haven't heard back. I tried her again yesterday, but no response. Good thing I have an advocate inside the company. There's a lot more disappointment to this project and company, but that's a quick update. I've been trying to deal with them for a year. Doesn't seem like it should be this hard. I would never use them again. What a waste of time and money. read more

Ripping off the elderly? My elderly parents had Semper Solaris install a solar system earlier this year. They asked for a system that would power their whole house, and the salesman led them to believe that was what they were getting. Unfortunately, he charged them $8000 more then a nearly identical system that I had bought from Solar City only a couple of months before. The workmanship was shockingly bad. The installers left one side of the electrical box wide open with no cover -- just a gaping hole to the live wires -- a clear electrocution risk and fire hazard. They also ran wires inside the house in plain site, making no attempt to cover them and leaving a wide hole between the house and garage. An HVAC repairman who came to their house was appalled at the condition of the installation and said there was no way it would pass inspection. The pictures I've posted show just how bad it was. My parents tried for 2 months to contact various people in the company to get it fixed, but nobody paid any attention to them until I posted the pictures to YELP. After that, the company contacted me and took action to fix the installation. Although we were initially pleased by their eventual response, that all changed a few weeks later when the power went out and we saw what they actually did . . . My parents thought they were paying for a system that would power their whole in an outage. Not only did the Company never inform them differently -- the installers actually tried to get them to pay even MORE for a slow start switch for when the air conditioner had to run off the battery. It was only after the system was installed that the company informed my parents that the system wouldn't cover the air conditioner at all. And then when the power went off, my parents found that it hadn't been hooked up to their refrigerator, oven, cordless telephone, living room with internet modem, and more. Who would knowingly install a system that wouldn't cover those things???? I had to intervene with the company again. They sent the installers back out and they switched up what was covered so that at least the main priorities like refrigerator and internet are covered, but there are still large parts of the house that aren't covered. For example, my 80 year old parents don't have light in their bedroom when the power goes out. My parents were led to believe they were buying a 1 battery system that would power their entire house, including air conditioning. What they received was a system that that fell far short of that, at a cost MUCH higher than what similar 1-battery systems were selling for. This isn't just an unscrupulous salesman -- the company headquarters is aware of the problem, but have been stringing us along for months and has been unwilling to offer any meaningful solution. I had semper put a new roof and solar on my house. The roofing crew was on time worked efficiently and quickly. I had a few spots of dry Rot they fixed it all perfectly. They also left my yard cleaner than they found it. The solar crew was just as punctual and efficient. They were always on time and respectful of my property. do not know where to begin. To keep this short I selected this company because of the glowing reviews. I was trying my best to remain positive. After receiving a call today stating that once our property will be inspected by LADWP, we could turn on Solar panel.... but DWP already gave us an approval??? Even though LADWP said it was not working properly. I sent an online service request and have attempted to contact a live person with no avail. This process was extremely stressful. I gave two stars because the pricing is affordable, consultant is knowledgeable, but the ball was dropped numerous times. FIRST Review: 7/14/2020 - 2 STARS OK, so I tried to give them the benefit of doubt, where I wasn't going to write a review until they are done...it's been now a month, and they still are not done....and no idea when they will get it done. So, here goes: - Warning: They don't do the install and use sub-contractors. Fortunately, we like the installers (Infinium Solar in Campbell, CA), but they need Semper's direction to move the needle when something needs to be done. - Warning: Semper's communication sucks. I mean really sucks. They are very, very non-responsive once they get you in contract. Multiple times, they called the day before wanting to install, no warning (ie, they don't coordinate or try to schedule the install to make sure it works for you). Now, the install is, well, STALLED and our sub-contractor is trying to get Semper to approve the work to complete the work. With that being said, I'll update the review once the job is done. Again, they started the install over a month ago, and now we are left with panels on the roof, battery in the garage, and nothing hooked up. Frankly, I feel bad for the sub-contractor (Infinium Solar) because I think Semper didn't communicate the complexity of the job before hiring them...but I guess that's not a surprise given my experience. UPDATE REVIEW 1/20/2021 - 4 STARS This is an update to the installation and project completion. - Communication was much improved when Semper Solaris had one of their CS reps personally handling our install. Mrs Wantanabe was really pulling for us to get our project done, and was genuinely interested in making it right. - Panels were installed by August, but the battery wasn't properly configured until December 2020. We wanted the battery to add up to 30% capacity to daily household energy use (so not pulling from grid), and save the remaining 70% for emergencies. Until December, the battery did not provide any power to the house and reduce our grid consumption, unless there was a full power outage. - Power outage last fall, system operated as intended and battery back-up did work, and we were thankful we had the system. - We finally got our approval from PG&E and are now getting credits for returning power to the grid...that was also in December. So, from August to Dec, when system went live, we were not getting credits for returning power to the grid...but responsible for paying for the panels & battery. - Semper did help offset costs for a few months where we did not get credits for returning power to the grid. Final thoughts, thankfully COVID gave me time to manage the install and try to keep things on track. I wish this would have gone better, but the system is working (finally) as intended...and that's the most important result. read more

I had a system installed by Semper Solaris early this year. So far, I am 100% satisfied with my experience. The customer service during the build process was outstanding. Many companies have poor reviews on communication and customers can't get a hold of anyone. Semper Solaris gave me regular updates even when there was no new news. The whole process was completely painless and I didn't have a single complaint. My main panel was upgraded as well and I was pleased with that work too. I had three other quotes and Semper Solaris had the best overall package. Cheapest price on the Silfab panels I wanted as well! Buy those, don't buy cheap panels from China!!!! read more

I've signed contract with Semper Solaris for a whole package - tile roof replacement, 6 additional solar panels and 1 battery backup - end of Oct 2021, in my house in Hayward CA. Signing/initial contacting with Dimitri: 5 stars, gave all discounts,friendly,professional although a bit slow on response; Roof tile replacement (done mid March 2022): 5 stars - Jose Montes, roofing superintendent/ manager was amazing - very professional, extra responsive, very quickly addressing small issues paying attention on all details, taking all communication with city; Roofing team is very professional, quick, good quality; Hope they will install solar and storage quickly. Overall - 4 stars (a bit slow to start the project), but so far so good. read more

Here how it went afterward. It took the online team to get the backend to take notice of the project after my previous review. Turned out no revisions were made for a good 5 months. . It just got dropped. After it got moving again, we we did 2 more rounds with the city which was another 3 months. We passed the final inspection, around 9 months after the installation. My suggestion is to be on top of it and communicate with your PM frequently. The backend and the front end and the installers are all different, with all these roles, things will go sideways when the project gets complicated. read more

We had Sempra Solaris come out and give us a bid. We thought it was high, but they seemed like a reputable company...NOT!! Do not, for ANY reason, no matter what someone else tells you, ever use this company for solar or roofing! They destroyed our roof! We just had a brand new roof installed and it was less than 6 years old. Because of what they did, we no longer have a warranty on our roof and the roof in the attic looks like a waterfall when it rains in many areas! It also is going to cost over 13K to fix what they did! There were multiple holes drilled into our roof so these clowns could find a beam to screw there lag bolts into. In MANY places in the attic I found 9 straight drill holes in a row until they could find a beam to screw into! They knew what they did, so they put glue on the roof to try and seal up the holes! You can't get a hold of ANYONE, especially a manager that has any authority to help us and talk directly to us. We have now filed a complaint with the state licensing board and the BBB sense its been like pulling teeth to get a hold of ANYONE from this company! They are coming out in Feb to look at it, along with my roofing contractor and have put us off for 3 long weeks until they would even come out! Please beware of this company and don't ever use them for ANYTHING! There commercials are a complete and utter lie and I never saw ONE SINGLE vet working for them, because I asked all who worked on the roof! I originally contacted Sempra Solaris for a quote to expand my existing solar system. After evaluating the existing system and the roof, we determined that the roof needed to be replaced as well as the solar. We have now had to call them three times to have the roof looked at because there is a leak. There is now water damage inside my house. Sempra is working to resolve this issue but I would not recommend this company for anything outside of a solar system instal. Especially we worked with Rob Leverton, the sales rep who was with us through out the process, clarifying things and smoothing out issues with the operations team. The roofing project went very smooth and on time. The solar work hit some delays with city approval due to minor issues like missing placards and not painting the conduit delaying us by a month. Although construction projects don't always go perfect, Semper Solaris did right by their commitment to us and finished our new 50 year Owens Corning roof and new solar system in a timely manor which exceeded our expectations. We are very happy with our Owens Corning Night Sky roof and all black Panasonic panels, looks great on my roof. We looked at multiple companies and Semper won our business due to their reputation and pricing as well as offering us the best warranties out of the competition. One star for Semper Solaris is one star too many. It has been almost a year since we ordered a Tesla power wall from Semper Solaris. After several months, the wall was installed but still not hooked up to the grid. Three times now they have cancelled the hook up at the last minute. Two of those times Semper Solaris forgot your call PG&E to stop the power shut off in prep for the install causing PG&E to turn off power only to have to return an hour later to turn power back on. The last time Semper Solaris confirmed they evening before then cancelled last minute day of and failed to contact the country inspector who showed up and the work was not completed. As of this post we are still waiting for Semper Solaris to connect the power wall to the grid. Semper Solaris stop advertising for new customers and take care of the ones you already have. read more

The installation of a Tesla PowerWall Battery for backup at our home was a lot more complex a process than we imagined and took a long time to complete. It is now installed and works very well as intended. That being said, we wanted to point out a few items worth mentioning: 1. Rene Vaca and Michelle Cuomo (and other team members) stayed engaged throughout the SGIP Rebate process - which the state changed several times. I felt very comfortable that they were on top of things. It took lots of paperwork, many changes, and enduring patience. They did a great, professional job and all rebates have been received. 2. Early on, our sales rep, John Garcia was very attentive and sorted lots of details out as the project was planned. He was diligent in finding all the possible benefits, grants, and rebates for us. The installers had some issues and for some reason, when we needed him for changes and inquiries on our project's installation progress, he became impossible to contact. We even wanted to purchase an HVAC replacement package, but never got a bid(?). Must have been something I said...too bad, we'd have liked to give the additional business to Semper Solaris. It took a year to complete, but we'd hire them again. read more

Very professional team that treated my property with care and respect. Good about keeping me informed of things along the way. The wait was longer than I had hoped but I think worth it for the level of service. They always addressed and resolved any question or concern. These guys are fast and efficient. My new roof was done in basically two days - the permits and city inspector were the only delays and that's on the City of Martinez. Everyone I had contact with on the job-site was amiable and attentive. They weren't annoyed by my questions or input. Solar is going in today and looks like they'll wrap that up tomorrow. It took my neighbor 2+ weeks to get a new roof on so I really appreciate that they try to minimize the disruption and chaos that often surrounds projects of this nature. From the sales rep to the job foreman to the guy picking up debris from my yard, I have no complaints and only good things to say. The fact that they were able to roll my roof replacement and solar install into one transaction with good financing options was a real plus. Thanks to Jeff Levitt for putting the package together, sticking with me as we worked through some financing snafu's, and always being available to answer my questions or direct me to the right source. This is a 1-star review despite the quality of the roof I ended up with. That's how bad the experience was working with Semper Solaris. You should NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. They are dishonest, unethical, and incompetent. DISHONEST & UNETHICAL SALES TACTICS - account manager lied to me twice and tried to bribe me to give them a 5-star review. He sold me on a roof intake system that they don't even install in California, and told me that everyone working on the project would be a Semper Solaris employee when everyone on-site other than the project manager was subcontracted. When things went south on the project, he offered me a sweetener but only if I gave them a 5-star review. As if! INCOMPETENT COORDINATION & COMMUNICATION - too many issues to enumerate here. Suffice to say that if they could find a way to screw something up they managed to do so. Permitting, scheduling, updating on status were all a complete disaster. The downside is that there was a long time delay between the time I signed the contract and the time the batteries were installed. I think this delay was because Semper Solaris lost a number of workers during the peak of the COVID period where Santa Clara country was shut down. read more

Definitely recommend Semper Solaris. As with any big project with a busy, large organization like Semper Solaris, it can be frustrating. However, everyone we worked with was helpful and professional. If the initial contact couldn't help they were quick to find the person who could. Two examples of excellence: We were out of California while the work was being done. The old roof was removed and the material delivered. When the city inspector arrived the crew was told that the material did not meet code requirements because the codes had been changed a week before. Semper Solaris contacted us immediately, worked with the city to argue for being "grandfathered" into the old code since it was legal when the permit was pulled. When that didn't work out we were able to choose an acceptable material at no extra cost. Unfortunately, because of this, it took a day longer to complete the project but Semper Solaris handled the issue efficiently with professionalism. While we were informed that the removal of the old material would be messy, we had no idea what that really meant. After the job was done and paid in full, Semper Solaris sent out a crew to clean our garage and attic. When they were in the attic noted a dead rat caught in a trap (another fun homeowner issue, rodents) and disposed of it. Above and beyond I think. read more

We were on the fence about doing solar, but once he broke everything down and how we can save money it turned into a no brainer. We thought, this is the price of a car and were really hesitant on such a price. But after speaking with Josh we saw the savings over the next 20 years alone and were impressed. From then on it was a smooth experience, I was updated along every step of the way through the Semper Team. I am confident in a company like this knowing that my warranty will go a long way. Everything went well as far as prove and install. Theres some sort of disconnect between the city and the company on the companies end. I had to make 4 or 5 different appointments with the company a f the city. It was 100% the companies fault the city showed up to every appointment. The company could t get it together. Because of this month and a half long screw up pg&e charged me for my electricity still costing a little over a hundred bucks The rest if the process was a positive experience. One of the workers stepped thru the ceiling in my garage but they told me about it and said it would be taken care of. Within 48 hrs I had a call to set the appointment for the repair. Rob is not a just a sales guy but really has passion for what he is selling and can give you endless resources of information about the product they sell. Anything less then a sunpower panel is just a waste of money. Our install went fine and they went above and beyond with a few extras. After year one we eneded up owing PGE $13 bucks. Not bad. We increased our use alot and almost came out dead even, so great planning on their part. The system was very fairly priced. I just had solar and 2 Tesla Powerwall batteries installed this week. I was fortunate enough to have the "Rangers" crew from Semper Bakersfield and they were amazing! They were on time, communicated effectively, did top notch quality work, and even broom swept up after the install. I was up and running in 2 days with 18 panels and the powerwalls. They communicated effectively and were pleasant to be around. I would highly recommend Semper Solaris and request the Rangers crew if you are able. I have no idea about this company and wanted to get more information about purchasing solar panels. Called on 07/08/2020 and scheduled a phone appointment with the owner for 07/09/2020 at 10 am. The woman who scheduled the appointment assured me I would receive a phone call promptly at 10 am. The call never came... this is how you treat prospective clients? Not very happy with this company. I bought a roof and solar from them 6 months ago and it's still not complete. They somehow forgot to do a portion of my roof and if it wasn't for my other contractor, they probably would have gotten away with it. Like I said, they have been working on my solar for a couple months and it's still not on. It's failed inspection and and is still waiting approval. I chose this company because of it being veteran owned and veteran operated. It also had decent reviews. This has been nothing but a horrible experience. Do some more research when going solar. We signed our deal with Semper Solaris December 5, 2019. We were looking for battery back up and contracted for Semper to install two Tesla PowerWalls to back up our existing solar array. At first everything seemed as expected, holidays slowed things, but on January 20 we had our first of three tech visits. I was told the designers were unsure what an 'ejector pump' was. Our art studio building with a studio apartment is over 80 feet from the main house, so we use a sump and ejector pump. It has a dedicated 20 amp 110V circuit and fires roughly every other day for about 30 seconds. Long story short, the company never contacted us to discuss the problems they were having. Over the course of the next four months I called headquarters three times, was promised a response and solution all three times and never heard from Semper again. After seven months, on June 20, 2020 I sent my notification of contract cancellation and asked for my $1,000. deposit back which I have not yet received . I cannot recommend Semper Solaris. read more

Calling HQ to complain and asking for someone else to call me back wasn't much better, the regional manager call me.
