I think the owner may have been at the door that day and seemed a bit frazzled (understandable). Also, a sign that says please wait here to be seated. When we arrived we didn't know where to stand so we went to the other side of the front desk and were somewhat scolded and redirected to go back around and wait. It was pointed out there was another family waiting to be seated. Hmm. But it was a busy day so we let that go. Fortunately we didn't wait long to be seated. The waiter, although not to experienced, was trying hard and answered all our questions. When we placed our order we were informed several items were not available. Hmmm. It was still early in the day, how do you not have the items. We ordered humus. DELICIOUS!!! Spanish Octopus with white rice, combination plate with lamb, steak and chicken plus the white rice, and finally lamb chops with white rice. Problem the octopus was served first it had superb flavor and not rubbery at all. That was my son's meal. Then about 5 mins later came my meal, the combination which was deliciously seasoned and the chicken was moist!! Finally 5-10 mins later the waiter came and told my daughter that the kitchen failed to tell him there were no lamb chops. So disappointed. They apologize and she ordered the combination plate which came about 10 minutes later. Needless to say my son and I were done with our meal. Problem: initially when we got the hummus we ate it but had to drink water because our drinks didn't come till I got my meal. I reminded the waiter and he explained they had to make the drinks. habiscus water and a mint lemonade. Hmmm Problem: when my son got his octopus, he didn't get a knife and I had to give him my steak knife so he could cut his octopus legs. Finally when we got the bill, we were being charged for the lamb chops!!! Needless to say Al Bahar was recommended by Albawadi Grill waitress. And yes the food is terrific! Even the white rice makes my mouth water. But the service and consistency needs much improvement. Although the waiter apologized, at no time were we offered some type of compensation for all the inconveniences experienced. Not that it's required nor do I expect it but it would've been a nice gesture. The table next to us complained loudly and they were offered free food. We complained subtly and no type of courtesy was extended. Do I recommend. Yes for pick up order the food is scrumptious and No I do not recommend dine in experience. They have much to improve! Goto Al Bawadi instead!! Their food is delicious, the service is very friendly and the humus and fresh made pita unbelievably delicious!

They gave us a chicken shawarma bowl instead of steak. They didn't want to take the chicken shawarma bowl back so they just put it in a bag and gave it to us. Prices aren't bad. -mixed shawarma meal 4.5 - the mixed meat (steak and chicken) were both very moist and tender. A lot better than Haifa in Orland Park. The fries weren't bad but I would have preferred them to be crispy. These leaned more on the soggy side like McDonald's. I gave it a 4.5 because I wished the shawarma portion was bigger. -steak shawarma bowl 3 - I told my gf this but stop getting bowls. If you want to really experience the shawarma, always get it in a flatbread or pita. Never in a bowl. The meat loses moisture in the open air thus making it taste dry. -sfeha flatbread 4.5 - this was pretty tasty. The meat is moist but the bread on the outside can get slightly dry.

I selected feta as one of my toppings, and they literally placed a solid brick of it on top of the bowl. ‍ The other toppings looked like maybe a couple of tablespoons each. The wrap was also served in a floppy tortilla. From what I'm used to, places typically crisp the tortilla slightly in a pan before wrapping it so it has some texture and a little crunch. Great place IF you like 15 dollar wrap sandwiches with a side of slickness. Let me preface this by saying, I frequently patronize ethnic restaurants (mostly Middle Eastern and Indian) in the Chicago area. I also go to grocers such a Bee-san and Wala' on 95th. I teach Arabic and am quite familiar with the culture. I was really surprised by the blatant lack of ethics and the bait and switch. The menu says one thing and the prices on the register are quite different. I pointed this out immediately. The associate did not seem to want to honor the supposedly outdated prices on his menu, but ultimately did. The other guy spoke in Arabic (which I understand and used while there) about adding taxes, etc. They were trying to up the price back up. The menu doesn't mention that toppings are extra. He quickly added on four toppings--this was never mentioned anywhere. Then, another two dollars was added. My sandwich plate, advertised on the menu at 8.49, rang up at almost 14 dollars. I told them they could keep it and left. Save yourself the trouble and expense and go to Naf Naf down the street. Or better yet, head up to 87th and Harlem where the prices are jacked up. The food I did taste (they gave me a sample) was completely average. They don't even have kifta kabob on the menu. I suspect they thought they could bait and switch with me because I'm a woman and perhaps they thought I was clueless about the culture? Stereotypes abound. They wouldn't try this with a dude (especially of a certain ethnicity). ! read more

Semsem Mediterranean Restaurant is situated in Tinley Park, IL, and shares a parking lot with Floor & Décor and Hobby Lobby. I have had the opportunity to dine at this restaurant twice, and while my first experience was pleasant, the second one was not as good. The restaurant's menu includes Piat, wrap, bowl, falafel, and signature items, which you can mix and match according to your taste. These items can be purchased separately or as a plate, and the latter offers better value for money. Whether you choose to dine in or take out, you may experience chaos when paying for your food. This is because there is often a backlog of special orders in front of the cashier, who has limited English and has to figure out which order belongs to whom before checking them out. Although Semsem Mediterranean Restaurant has great potential, it lacks organization and structure. Moreover, while you can customize your food according to your preferences, I found the food to be quite basic. read more

I'm just tired of paying with my hard earned money to a establishment that does not appreciate my business, let's keep it real we only come here because it's the only shawarma place in town, but the service sucks, there's only 2 guys that are pleasant, the ladies at the register are pissed off that your shopping there, a simple thank you would suffice, and if I order a shawarma garden, a fork would be great to eat the coleslaw with, do better because once All the other places open up in orand/Tinley y'all will be second best, especially with that sub par service, bridge view restaurants are way better, btw if your white black or Asian you will be treated like royalty, but middle easterners who put this place on the map are treated like we are second and third class citizens read more

Hi this is my first yelp ever, and my first visit to SemSem Mediterranean restaurant. I went it knowing I wanted a Gyro sandwich. You can't go wrong with what you know right? The gentleman and lady were very pleasant and nice. They handed out samples to the customers. Delicious by the way. I got to the counter and asked for a gyro. The nice lady explained that gyro was almost ready....meaning fresh. She suggested I try a steak and chicken wrap, and she even picked toppings. Now listen hear, I took a bite into the wrap. OMG, this is very good food especially when your mind is set on something else to begin with. If you love Mediterranean food, forget that GOOD food period. My husband came around 2pm Friday to get a falafel sandwich and they told him it would be 5 minute wait so he chooses a beef shawarma sandwich meal, the server didn't even bother ask what he would on it and proceed to put what ever the server wanted and he put lots of onions and tomatoes and the sauce that was very watery started wrapping the sandwich like he was not standing there so my husband chose not to get the sandwich and left. While we were leaving someone came to the door and acted like he wanted to fight and actually even opened the door when we were on the busy street just watching us. Anyway we will definitely not be coming back. And customer service is not good read more

Had previously been a very big fan of Naf Naf but they closed. So, I tried Sem Sem. It was good. Everyone was very nice. I got a bowl similar to what I had gotten other places. It was good but it felt like it was missing something. The flavor profile wasn't as complex or something. Some spices missing maybe. I think I was comparing it too hard to Naf Naf. It was good, fresh, and everyone was nice. I'm going to try it again soon and see how I feel. But they fell short on my first visit. I'm surprised more people haven't reviewed this place. Hands down the best shawarma sandwich I've had in the states and I've been all over. The falafel sandwich is also very good but may not be ideal for all as it's not in its traditional form. This place serves a modern style of sandwich which is excellent in my opinion. Just the bowl of lamb broth pre-meal is worth an hour of wait. I DREAM OF THAT BROTH, it was that good. I wanted to seek out the chef, and kiss his/her hands, but I don't have bail money, so I didn't. Their grilled fish was also to die for; booked through perfectly, and juicy, with a bunch of beautifully caramelized seasoning giving it a scrumptious yet delicate flavor. Baba Ghanoush can be had as a main, versus a side, the portion is aplenty, and the flavor is top notch; I prefer my ghanoush more chunky, but this is creamy and satisfying too! Overall, thoroughly satisfied, this is the kind of meal that will have you hating yourself for not getting here sooner! Go try it now..... it's not just about Yemeni Coffee, the food is amazing too!

Yemani Adni tea was good, but unfortunately was pre mixed with sugar - no other choice was possible. Appetizer of a breaded chicken Sandwitch was OK, the hummus left a lot to be desired. Only Lamb Mandi was good. Chicken Biryani was too oily. Could not understand the freshly made dessert of dates, cream and others. Service was with a smile. Staff was accommodating. I will give it another try after they have run the place for a few months and hopefully improved.
