Quick Thoughts: If you're staying the night and have plans to walk the Glen, this is a GREAT option. Buckle up, this might be a long one. We are road tripping our way to northern NY and figured we'd stop at Watkins Glenn as a stop on our way to Rochester. Last minute we decided to stay for an overnight. Hotel/Motel: When we were driving I was doing my best to scout the area for somewhere to stay. Lately I've been using a particular chain, but didn't see any in the area, but lots of motels. We got into town (which is super cute by the way) and it seemed pretty clear that motels were the THING, and they all seemed fairly cute. We stopped to eat at the marina and decided to pick a motel near the main entrance to the park so we could walk there and not pay to park. We ended up turning up the west side of the lake and came to the south entrance and boom, a lodge was across the street. Decided to pull in and ask about availability. We opted for a two queen motel, but there were cabins (single queen) and king options too. The front desk attendant was amazingly friendly, and even offered to let us check out a room before booking to make sure we were ok with it. Beds- comfortable and clean so far! Bathroom- fairly spacious, plenty of clean towels, bars of soap (no shampoo/conditioner), and a closet shelf and hanging bar. Amenities- plenty of parking, no ice machine (a bit of a bummer since we're traveling with a cooler, although they advertise 10lb bag of ice for $3 at the desk), a little outdoor sitting area. Ok here's the best parts. All on "campus" is a full restaurant, tavern, and brewery. AND, we just have to walk across the street for free entry into the park with a playground and pool!! What an amazing family friendly find this is! Restaurant/Brewery: I believe you can tell a little about an establishment by their kids menu. If it's just chicken fingers and Mac and cheese, it's just ok for me. So imagine my delight when the first option was a London Broil!!! It came in thin easy to eat slices, a side of rice pilaf, and a trip to the salad bar. My husband had a chicken dinner, which were two marinated chicken breast and rice pilaf. I had broiled shrimp with rice pilaf. Everything was so good. Service was quick (always good with kids) and we loved the salad bar. It was small, but had so many fresh items, and it allowed us to get food right away (also good for kids). My husband and I really enjoyed our beers, and I kind of want to go back tomorrow afternoon to sip one on their amazing deck. Ok, the length is getting absurd now, but I highly recommend this place, and can't wait to share it with family, friends, and you brave souls to read this novel. read more

The waitress had the person a dry sponge and seemed upset that she had to wait on us. She rolled her eyes when we asked for Parmesan cheese and catchup. My pork chop was dry and tough. We didn't get refills on our water glasses. Lastly, the waitress never came back after serving our food to see how everything was. We think it definitely goes back to training or a lack there of! We have not been here in a couple years and won't be back anytime soon. read more

Three of us stopped in Sunday night to meet friends who were staying at the lodge. First impression was cozy tons of memorabilia and laid back fun. I had 2 of the house brewed ipas, decent but not as tropical and I normally love. We had issues ordered the second round and shots. Yes we were letting lose after the Nascar race. It was a struggle buying drinks after the first round. About 20 minute wait for the subsequent rounds with two bartenders on staff. We did not dine but there was a large dining room adjacent to the pub if you require a non liquid dinner. read more

We had our annual family Christmas Party at this venue. This family owned business was very accommodating and welcoming. The food was excellent and consisted of a buffet of many of their regular menu items. We also spent night in the lodge with multiple family members spread out over 3 rooms. The rooms were not fancy but were clean and comfortable and met our expectations. The bar was very comfortable and offered premium liquors that were very good!! The lodge has a very interesting history and is well worth your time to stop in eat dinner, spend a couple evenings while visiting the area. read more

Let me just say that the lodging and food and bar are all lumped into this review. The lodging is very cool very homey cozy and the fellow folks that are staying there are quite sociable with their animals and whatnot. It's a bit shabby To the point where the pool and the tennis courts have basically been abandoned but that's okay. The bar is excellent.. very rustic looking with most colleges in the Northeast represented with pennants. A lot of arrows lodged in the wall as well... basically looks like a hunting lodge the beer is cold and the drinks are good and the bartender is excellent. The food at Seneca Lodge leaves something to be desired...I had a salmon and a crab cake ( crab cake was highly touted) The crab cake was basically all bread ( no lump meat as one must in Baltimore) and clearly microwaved ( part of it was cold). The salmon was lukewarm as well.. For over 30 dollars that shouldn't happen. It's a better place for breakfast. Very pleasant otherwise.. there are plenty of places for dinner in Watkins Glen so I'll just keep it the cocktails in the evening and get dinner elsewhere. Great place for wine touring or checking out the fall foliage.. of course a good central space for hunters as well you could see hanging deer carcasses at the lodge as well.. read more

This review is based on the brewery and customer service. I have not tried the food or lodging yet. The restaurant was closed they open for breakfast and dinner, but in between you are able to buy beer And sit out on the deck or inside. The deck wraps around so you can choose sun or shade. Picnic tables or Adirondack chairs there is a lot of seating. The woman behind the desk was super friendly and turned the lights in for me so I could get a good look at the bar area. Super cool decor, clean, nicely laid out , inviting, and fun! I tried the peach beer because it was a super hot day and I had just hiked Watkins Glen. The beer was tasty. They have other choices from ipa to amber. I really like this place and am happy to support my local NY brewery. Cheers read more

I have stayed here on 4 different occasions with no issues. This weekend was my 50th birthday and looked forward to staying here. When I reserved , we reserved a cabin with a KING size bed , due to back and hip problems. We called on our way in to see if we could do early check in only to be told that they showed no reservation for us. I'm like I'm holding my confirmation card in my hand. Well how do you spell your name, are you sure that's how you spell it ? I'm like what , yes I'm sure that's how I spell my name. I got pissed and hung up. A few minutes later she calls back, yeah I found your card in another area you're good to go. Fine, get there check in , get to the cabin only to find two TWIN beds. Call back and say there's yet another problem , that there's twin beds and not a king and she's like well your reservation couldn't have been for a king as we only have two cabins with king beds. This was by far the worst experience I've had here. Not to mention the beds squeak EVERY time you move. My boyfriend kept saying let's just check out and go get something we will be happy with. We only stayed due to the fact we were doing the wineries all weekend. Really disappointed and partially ruined the weekend read more

Terrible experience. We've been coming here for years and enjoying it but tonight our server was dismissive, rude and even confrontational. It took forever to get a server. When we did, he was very inattentive and threw our order on the table without saying anything and then disappeared. I finally saw him by the salad bar so I approached him and asked him politely to bring my husband another beer. He started ranting about having a party of 18 and being too busy for us. When I suggested that he give our table to another server, he started yelling and saying I was being "nasty". It turns out that he is a family member of the owners and a substitute manager or sorts. When I asked who the man ager was, he got in my face yelling that he was the only one. I found out later that this was not true. So sad; we used to love this place. read more

My dinner was not worth the money. Chicken Carbonara is not a breaded deep fried chicken breast with a half ladle of mushrooms in chicken gravy. My baked potato was hard enough to break something. And what? No vegetable? No coffee refills? For $27.00 it was not worth half the price. To top it off, my waiter did not come back to check on us. Invited by friends to dinner here. Rustic ambiance and friendly service. Reasonable prices and good food. Record low price for makers mark on the rocks at $6.25! Large portions. Salad bar comes with entrees and was fresh with homemade dressings. Scallops were very good. Fried chicken was a half chicken with green beans. Great place to go after a race for drinks. We arrived around 7:00 and the place was jammed. Parking was full and inside was very crowded. We couldn't sit down. We ordered drinks at the bar. The service was quick and the drinks were good. We stood on the back porch and enjoyed the view while drinking and waiting for a table. After a while, we decided to go back to our campsite and make our own dinner, as it was a bar atmosphere and we had a 10 year old with us. We saw other people eating and the food looked good. Who wants to cook when camping? We always see many people and yet we had never eaten here until this year! Inside was a huge lodge great room that was plenty bright. The bar had many different themes and interesting detail. They give you $2 bills as change, that was different. The restaurant food was very good! Salad bar with everything. Stopped by to see what the locals do, and to get a steak since there are some good Yelp reviews talkin bout steak. Hubby was not disappointed and loved his medium rare steak. I loved Christy's cosmos and my burger. We sat in the bar area, watched the Yankees lose, talked to the locals and had a good night. AWESOME, just awesome. Super cozy, casual and fun place for dinner and drinks. The front porch has a beautiful view and the interior will give you more to look at than any other bar in the area. It's definitely a unique establishment, very old school, popular with the locals and people passing through. Don't miss the London broil or the chicken parm, both are excellent! Their corn muffins are also to die for. I was so full by the time it came around for dessert I had to pass but I was told the peanut butter pie is excellent. Oh and the shrimp cocktail - it seems pricey for 5 shrimp but they are huge! They also brew their own beer, I had a couple pints of the blonde ale which was delicious! Give it a chance, stop in and see where the locals like to hang out. The owners are usually there and are happy to chat with you. It's nice and clean but nostalgic all in one! read more

I chose this as lodging for the main destination during my honeymoon: Watkins Glen, renting out one of the small cabins for me and my lovely new wife. Being located directly in front of the Watkins Glen State Park, it was the ideal place to stay. Quaint little cabins in the bosom of nature, as well as an on-grounds restaurant serving both breakfast and dinner. (Note: There is no lunch available at the restaurant, and breakfast does not come free with a night's stay.) The cabin was quite clean when we got there, but being out in nature, a few insects did manage to sneak inside the bathroom before we got there. The stay was almost perfect. And the reason I say "almost", as well as giving them four rather than five stars, was because the lodge refused to provide loaner tennis and archery equipment even though a tennis court and archery range were available on the grounds due to "liability". Sigh. The joke of New York law. AS IF WE WERE SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT BEFORE WE GOT THERE. YEAH, LIKE I'M A MIND READER. But now you know. Keep that in mind when using this facility. Thankfully, they hadn't chickened out on allowing guests to burn campfires on the grounds yet, and you can buy and burn an armful of firewood for $4 on the site. read more

A cute old school place with nice local people. A very simple place with a lot of charm and character. We had breakfast one morning and Dominick was our waiter, he was so sweet and helpful and made sure we were taken care of. From the front staff person to the bar attendants every staff member we encountered was so kind and happy to tell you the story of the place. Food is pretty bland but overall a great experience for a weekend get away. read more

Seneca Lodge is a cool location-to come to. The cabins are quaint and the motel rooms are comfy. The only gripe is that there are no small refrigerators in the rooms. For some reason they still refuse to put them in the rooms. We've been coming here over the years and I guess they just don't care what their patrons think. We have eaten here as a family on numerous occasions and I have always enjoyed my meal. Unfortunately, last night's experience was less than desirable. Four people in our party of 7 ordered the Chicken and biscuit special. All 4 dishes came out to warm/room temperature. When I hear chicken and biscuits, I think of a dish that's so hot you have to blow on your food before eating. This was not the case. I sent my dish back to be heated, but it again came out warm, not hot. The top layer was warm but everything else was still warm. I did not finish my meal and spoke with our server about the poor quality of the meal and having to send it back. He apologized and asked if I was done and if we were interested in dessert. I'm the only one in our group to send it back, but no one finished the special of the night due to temp and quality of the meal. I will not be back! read more

Oh my god I freaking love this place. Our cabin was rustic but cozy and clean. Don't let the pics online fool you, it's not fancy but very comfortable. The food was great and the staff was super friendly. My wife and I had just had a child over a month before and this trip would be our first time making love post partum. Did we ever make love. Every which way and on every surface (avoid cabin 86 if you're ovulating ;) Made a new reservation for August before we left. Worth a trip up the hill just to check out the bar! This is an "old school" joint that appears to be popular with the locals, perhaps in part of the basis of being one of the original businesses that pioneered tourism in Watkins Glen. We had very nice service, perfectly cooked steaks, tasty if basic side dishes and salad bar, all at very reasonable prices, in a spotlessly clean and charming setting I like places with history. we came on a very busy night apparently . We were told an hour wait but it ended up being 20 minutes at the most . We both ordered the prime rib the prime rib was lacking flavor(mainly salt ) . My son got the London broil which was good and my other son got the fried shrimp and did not like it at all . We ending up spending $130 for 4 people . I really enjoyed this place, but don't go in expecting the Hilton! Smaller A frames, and little cottages, nothing too fancy. We had three rooms in ours, and it held four people just fine. Plenty of towels, and all the appliances one would need for a week. Quiet, peaceful, and pleasant- very clean, as well. Down at the main structure, they had a nice ballroom area and a decent bar, with low cost drinks. I'll definitely be staying here next year! read more

This bar has got definitive character but with so many great breweries and bars around, it's the main thing it has going. We got a little bit of a not-welcome feeling from the locals when we visited, but nothing overt. The decor is interesting with arrows shot into the walls; a lot of arrows. There are also pennants from nearly every college, at least in the northeast. The beer selection is good and there are are many craft selections. read more

We are here this week for a bike meet in Trumansberg. 20 years ago my husband proposed to me up in the gorge so its wonderful to be back after so long. Although the town has changed a bit Seneca Lodge still remains just as charming as we remember it, of course with a few updates to the place. We couldn't wait to have the prime rib which is their specialty. Just as juicy and delicious as we remembered it. Great prices, friendly staff, great food and desserts. Stay in a cabin across from a state park that has a full restaurant and tavern on premises... And they brew their own beer? YES, PLEASE. My boyfriend, our cat, and I rented a cabin for the week of July 4th to spend some time outside the city (we live in Philly) and get closer to the outdoors. The cabin was one of the smaller ones, not the larger A-frames. Ours was very tidy inside and seemed to have been updated recently. It was very small - just enough space for the queen bed and a dresser, but we are no-frills kind of people so we didn't mind. Our cat enjoyed the two windows on either side of the cabin so she could watch chipmunks and the neighbors :-) The restaurant serves some delicious breakfast and dinner (no lunch service). We had breakfast there every day of our stay. Great prices, hearty meals like your momma made (read: lots of butter). Service was always attentive and friendly. The tavern? Awesome. An eclectic hole-in-the-wall full of regulars and locals enjoying some pretty decent craft brews. We stopped in 3 different evenings for a nightcap after everything else in town had closed to get a beer and wander around looking at all the stuff on the walls. If we ever make our way back to this part of NY, I'd definitely stay here again. read more

I was on vacation in the Finger Lakes region with my boyfriend and his parents and were told to check out Seneca Lodge. It's located right next to the Watkins Glen State Park. Upon entering, the first thing you notice is the high wooden beams and beams as part of the walls. There was a nice deck wrapped around the restaurant as well. But honestly, from the looks of it, I didn't think much of it. I thought it was just going to be like another Cracker Barrell. We were seated promptly and our waitress told us that she was the 3rd generation in her family to has worked at the Lodge. All entrees came with salad bar (nothing special about the salad bar). I ordered the special that night: Scallop and Shrimp Scampi. The scallops were pretty large sea scallops and my pasta was delicious. I was delighfully surprised. But I guess that's why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. They served wine and cheese from the local vineyards and creameries. In addition to the restaurant, they also had a pretty busy bar in the back. Granted, Celtics vs Lakers was on...but the bar was pretty crowded. But then again, in that area, there's really not much to do except eat and drink:) read more
