When we travel, we always treat ourselves to a 'fancy' dinner where we splurge a little bit more than we would normally. After a not so great experience at Sapalta, we were a bit rushed to find a place for dinner on a Saturday night, which is no easy feat on a summer night. Considering the yelp reviews missed the mark with Sapalta, we figured we'd take a chance on Blue Pointe Grille and as soon as we walked in, we knew we had made the right decision. Firstly the wait staff were so kind and attentive. I wish I knew the name of our waitress, but right away she made us feel welcomed. She started us off with a bread basket and we had a couple of cocktails. For an appetizer we tried the fried calamari, mainly because I'm a sucker for banana peppers (or cherry peppers) with calamari. The calamari came with a pepperoncini and caper lemon aioli, which it didn't need but it was a nice twist considering most places will serve calamari with marinara. For dinner we split a bottle of wine, and opted for their catfish special and their chargrilled frenched pork chop. I was advised that the pork chop was a large cut of meat and would take some time to cook through which was fine because we had opted to sit outside and were delighted to watch the sunset. The entrees were excellent, and came out quicker than we expected. Overall, we had a great experience. If you have the chance to sit out on their patio, I definitely recommend it as you'll get beautiful views of Seneca Lake, and the boats coming into dock. Afterwards, I recommend taking a stroll down the pier to take in the sights. I'm glad we ignored the yelp reviews and opted to dine at Blue Pointe Grille. read more

We were there earlier than expected but the Wait staff seated us , and brought drinks and menus. The dinning room is warm and richly appointed. We ordered a couple of apps, Calamari with banana peppers and pierogi's. Both apps had me wanting more, but we ordered wonderful chicken dish and the Frenched Pork Chop...we left with a some leftovers and I was grateful. We came here because everything closes early. So my friend picked this place, first the service is amazing. The food was alright nothing to repeat. We ordered the shrimp bisque, it had shrimps but it didn't have a good shrimp broth flavor. Then I ordered the lobster ravioli and that was a bit better. It was good and I would have the dish again but the raviolis could have been fresher, the texture of the ravioli was a bit chewy. The place is quite nice and you have a beautiful view to the docks with the boat. I would not come back. My friends' steaks were overcooked and they returned them but the waitress was amazing she was very kind and efficient. They did give us chocolate covered cherries which was a nice touch. read more

We came here for a birthday celebration. You can park in the parking lot of the hotel. There are seats inside or seats outside. We decided to sit outside, which was nice that you got a view of the lake. They start you off with a bread basket, which had three different types of bread which was delicious. We had the pierogies of an appetizer and I would order them again. It was very different. They have something for everyone for the entrées. So we walked into a completely empty restaurant at 6:15pm on a sunny Tuesday in August. There is literally NO ONE around. We asked how long of a wait there would be for a table of 7. Keep in mind that our bill would easily be $700 or more. We were told by an obviously inexperienced hostess, "I'm sorry but we are completely booked for large parties". What? In a completely empty restaurant? Now we could have said, "Oh, we actually have a party of 4 and our friends have 3." However, we knew there were plenty of other places to go. Avoid this hotel trap restaurant and go to Jerlando's right down the street. Get a clue people. read more

But 1st, the good: lovely restaurant, average upscale, pricey food, kind staff... Our Pittsburgh fam was meeting Buffalo fam here (we both happened to be in the area simultaneously ). Our server, Corrinne C, was nice. Here's the kicker: wasn't nearly through with my entree salad, and she started to bus it. Surprised (and embarrassed), I asked for a to-go container. She said okay, and i saw no issue. She brought the check, and I asked for the to-go, and she forgot (if they were slammed, it would be one thing, but forgivable, because they were not at that time of day, 3pm). I ordered the soup special which was scallop chowder. Nice chunks of scallops and potatoes. A little bland but a good choice. For my entree I ordered the NY strip special. It was cooked perfectly. The bourbon sauce was a little too sweet for my liking. The loaded mashed potatoes were incredible. I enjoyed everything. Dinner on a Thursday evening in Watkins GLen. Food - crab dip appetizer, strawberry mandarin salad with salmon for me, bam bam shrimp & caprese for my hubs - was very, very good! Drinks - cosmo, blueberry pomegranate mule - also very highly rated! Service was pretty much perfect - pleasant and efficient. We spoke with the manager during our meal about not being able to be seated outside as requested. She handled our "complaint" flawlessly. Bottomline - we look forward to coming back! The Blue Point Grill is located inside the Harbor Hotel and we dined here several times during our weekend stay. On our first night we ate dinner and had delicious meals and impeccable service. The menu offers a nice variety of items and is not overly large, which helps them maintain quality. We sampled the following on our dinner visits, all of which were delicious: Friday fish special, California Cobb Salad with chicken, Quinoa Bowl, and the Herb Grilled Chicken. For breakfast (Huge portions) we tried the Omelets, Stuffed French Toast, and the loaded oatmeal. We ended up eating breakfast and dinner there twice. I found the prices for the portion size to be reasonable and the convenience of being in the hotel made it worth it. The meal ends with the server bringing chocolate covered cherries on whip cream for each person. This was delicious. As we were leaving, my mother asked the manager if the cherries were part of the regular dessert menu to order because she could eat them again. The manager quickly ran to the kitchen and brought a togo container with several more chocolate covered cherries for her. This was impressive! We will definitely dine again at Blue Point Grill when visiting Watkins Glen. read more

Enjoyed dinner with friends Saturday evening. Great service! Our server (I think Ashley--couldn't see her name from where I was sitting)--was so friendly and attentive! Lemon drop martini was delish! My hubby and I had the special...petite filet mignon served over a sun-dried tomato Alfredo pasta. Steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned, but the pasta could have used a little more salt or grated parm?? Just a tiny bit bland. There is no side served with it, nor salad, which would have been nice at $47.50...but all in all a nice meal. We started with the charcuterie board which another yelper recommended and that was large and had a very nice selection. Desserts were ok. Our friends enjoyed their meal--he cleaned his plate and she took leftovers--which she said were enough for 2!! Oh!!! And she's gluten free! They offer gf pasta! Horrible service. Horrible cooking (at least 1 of our 2 meals). When we placed our order the waitress said she would be right back with bread. Didn't happen. The salads we ordered were served 50 minutes after we ordered them, and 30 seconds before they brought out our entrees. They took back the entrees so we could have the salads first. After we finished the salads the waitress finally brought us bread. Another 15 minutes later they served the entrees (again). My ahi tuna was not rare, it was raw. Inedibly so. At that point I wasn't going to wait for them to cook it more. The manager came over very apologetic and comped our meal. But between my wife and I we shared one meal. We also asked again when we arrived but we're told there were none available for two. Only 3 window tables and had to have 4 or more apparently. Lively and fun bar. However, when we identified a problem, she jumped into action and did a great job. She apologized and took care of it and made sure things were fixed. She even made sure the manager came over to apologize. The mark of good service is how they handle issues, because issues are going to happen from time to time. I have to give Blue Point Grill an A+ for exceptional service. Started with the clam chowder and it was pretty good. My wife had the itinerary and it was excellent. Highly recommend the Ahi Tuna. Perfectly cooked and she really enjoyed the black rice that accompanied it. The pork tenderloin, at medium temperature (beyond medium would be dry), was perfectly cooked; juicy and flavorful. The asparagus which accompanied the pork was perfectly cooked and delicious. For dessert we shared the crème brûlée cheesecake. It was OK but not my favorite. Nice restaurant on the water in Watkins Glen. My friend and I were seated next to the fireplace which was lovely. We both ordered the chicken parm sandwich. The flavor was good and the chicken was crispy but it was also realllly thick! Doesn't seem like they tenderized it. I actually cut my in half width-wise so that I could bite it easier. My friend found a little bone in his... the fries and chips were delicious made in house I assume. The couple next us was vegan and they weren't very pleased with their ravioli which tasted very old - the restaurant must not get a lot vegans. I was there on a Tuesday in July after a wonderful day at Watkins Glen State park. I had been hiking for almost four hours and we had been pretty hungry. We got there around 12:00. The breakfast menu was gone so we had to order lunch. The place was only about 15% filled. The wait for our food was really long for the amount of people there. I finished my drink and wanted a refill but the waitress never came back to the table until the food was served. I got the Rueben that came with house made chips. The Ruben was made with what tasted like lunch meat. It was chewy and not very fresh. The chips were not fresh either. They were stale-ish and soaked up a lot of the fry oil. My lady got the buttermilk fried chicken sandwitch with fries. Her sandwich was better than mine and thankfully they weren't able to mess up the fries The food was not that great, and the service wasn't either. I would hate to be there when it's busy, but now I know why it wasn't. read more

On a Friday, following a long week at work, it can be pleasant to find a place in another town where no one recognizes you or knows your name... Blue Pointe is like that for me. Located in a hotel in Watkins Glen on Seneca Lake, the food is a level up from the rest and its quality is consistent. Beautiful inside area with fireplace. Bar is ambient, dim with warm lighting. An excellent beer menu - short but unique and changes often. Last week English Gentleman was on draft. Outdoor seating accompanied by fire pits ideal for groups. Tip: Order the charcuterie board... it look expensive on the menu but it can feed two or more people and it was enough food to be a meal. read more

It was a good restaurant. My food was cooked excellent, my steak was the perfect temperature. They don't have the largest menu, but what they do have is cooked right. I do have to agree with other reviews that the service wasn't the best. I would have given it five stars but where our waitress wasn't bad she seemed like she had more important tables then us and other people where getting served before us. I understand it gets busy but we had reservations so I don't know why the people sitting next to us where getting their dinner while we where getting drinks when we where seated at the same time. read more

My husband and I went for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. I had the seafood scampi and my husband the 20 oz porterhouse steak We have high expectations and were a bit worried, being our first time. We had the cheese board to start which was just ok. It wasn't any imported cheeses and it was 90% crackers. (and ALOT of them) For lunch, we had the chicken parm sandwiches. They are served on what was basically a hamburger bun and tasted like frozen chicken parm that they heated up in a microwave. The "house made" chips were probably the best part of the meal. We sat outside which was pretty with a nice view. The service was just ok - she disappeared for a long time at one point. We chose this restaurant for lunch on a recent business trip and let me said we couldn't have had a more pleasant experience dining on the patio. As we all know that even though the reviews on Yelp and other sites remain for years things can change and part of the review process is to make the owners aware of what they are doing right and what they need to improve on so I usually base my choice on the most recent experiences and try and put things in perspective. This is 2018 so why happened in 2011 is less relevant in my opinion unless this trend continues into the present. The patio setting is beautiful and somewhat unique, the tables are spaced far enough apart so it offers a level of privacy, the staff responsible for this dining area are stationed on the patio so they can provide attentive service and today's service was spot on so kudos to the management team. There is also a set of train tracks located in very close proximity to the patio and the short train transversed several times during our visit and it was kinda cool and very respectful with it's slow movement, no blaring horn and the cars were tastefully graffiti'd which was amusing and somewhat nostalgic if that's possible. The food was really good most of our group ordered lunch portion salads, I ordered the Harbour Chef Salad with a white vinaigrette dressing and as you can see from the photo I posted it was well crafted with lots of fresh ingredients it was perfect in quality, taste and appearance I highly recommend this one. Prior to our lunch entrees arriving we were treated to a basket with an assortment of breads and crackers with three different toppings and spreads (pretty classy and delicious). If you are considering dining here I can't image you'll experience anything bad here, I just don't think they can go from this level of service to poor and inconsistency in such a short time. I'd definitely dine here again if given a choice although I do like to explore other options I will always feel this is a safe option or if I want to have a higher level dining experience I'm coming here... read more

We visited Blue Pointe Grille as they had recently reopened after being shutdown due to COVID. Our party was two adults sitting down for dinner outside around 7:30pm. We were excited to try this place as had heard good things about it. Service: 2 stars. The biggest disappointment was the service. It took over 1 hour for our appetizers to come, and we were not offered any apology, explanation, and also no bread was served to us. Our water glasses were frequently empty. We know that some of it was perhaps adjustment to reopening, but still were quite disappointed. Food: 2.5 stars. Given the cost of the food, we were expecting a little more. We started off with calami which came with a great sauce pairing. My partner ordered the Maine lobster roll and was disappointed and felt that it tasted artificial with not much flavor. He did enjoy the fries. I had the seafood scampi and was incredibly disappointed. The pasta had no flavor and the sauce was nonexistent. I had to ask for additional salt/cheese to improve the flavor and still felt sick/nauseous after eating. The seafood was cooked appropriately. For dessert we tried the creme brûlée cheesecake which while interesting combination, did not redeem the meal for us. Ambiance: 4 stars. Beautiful outside patio seating. They were appropriately spaced far apart for privacy and social distancing. All waiters were wearing face masks. We were able to watch the sunset and walk around a bit after on the dock. read more

I came here on a bachelorette party for dinner recently. We were seated at 2 different tables (which I understand as our group was large), and our waitress was nice and accommodating for those of us who needed mocktails. The appetizers were very good and our dinners were decent. Towards the end of the night however we were offered to move to a "very nice group space" aka we were being too loud in the restaurant and I guess they received complaints. A few of the girls on the bachelorette went to preview the room and it was essentially a conference room in the hotel. I can understand that they wanted us to be a bit more quiet, I wish I they just asked us to quiet down a bit instead of trying to trick us into being moved to a conference room. With 15 girls, we were paying a fairly large bill for food and drinks to them, so I would have appreciated them being more transparent with us. All in all, it was a good place to grab a nice dinner. The bar area was nice too. I would say be careful going in a large group as I guess the regular customers are on the older side and get easily annoyed by a loud group. read more
