We stumbled on this place while traveling through Medford, Oregon looking for a breakfast stop. Portions were large, the food is delicious, the food was cooking on the grill when we walked in, so you can see how it's being prepared in the open kitchen. Prices are super reasonable, restaurant is clean, and we left with lots of yummy leftovers. They even let us sample food we didn't order. Loved this gem of a restaraunt and the atmosphere inside. read more

I've been coming here off and on for over 20 years. This used to be a go to and unfortunately I feel it has been going down hill for a while. Two days ago we went in with our masks on (COVID19) and ordered food for take out. We were the only ones wearing masks. I did notice that a sneeze guard had been put up, even though it doesn't fully go down to the counter where it's positioned which seems less useful. The woman who would be helping us washed her hands (yay!!) and then took our orders. She proceeded to get our tortillas and cheese on the grill, then wiped her hands on her side.. My quarantine buddy and I both noticed this as it happened. I let her know my concern and our experience became uncomfortable after that. She seemed offended and denied this but washed her hands again. From this point on we both noticed what felt like attitude from the two woman there. We continued with our orders, trying to not let the situation ruin the experience (really had been looking forward to our burritos as we hadn't gone there in over two months due to the pandemic). I paid for my burrito and waited. The woman who made my burrito didn't pack mine up the way she had with others and the cashier eventually went over to my burrito. Said burrito was tossed into bag (same hands as on cash register taking money). I went to pick up bag. Bag ripped. Cashier started walking away and said, "careful, it's heavy". I stood there looking at her as she had seen that the bag had ripped before she said that. She asked if I wanted another and I replied yes. She handed me one abruptly and said, "that's all I've got". Quarantine buddy and I were very surprised by this entire experience. I did not leave a tip as I almost always do. These are the same woman we've talked with in the past here. The same women we've been served by before. Never a bad experience before. They give the homeless 2 full scoops of rice and beans, and paying customers a level drained out scoop of rice and beans. The last two times I was there--two separate obnoxious homeless guys cam in early for rice and beans and got "Mountains of rice and beans" and I got squat. I have always loved the food here but recently have been unhappy with service and attitude. I cannot eat large amounts of food so I often order from the kids menu for the smaller portions. I don't get sour cream, guacamole, salsa or some of the other items they include but instead ask for an extra scoop of beans. They charge an extra $1.00 for that. Today I ordered a quesadilla from the kids menu. Asked for pork on it. Extra $1.50. Drink was suppose to come with it but was told it didn't apply as I wasn't a kid. They ask if I wanted chips and I said yes but at the register was told no unless I wanted to pay another $1.00. I am very disappointed and not sure if I will go back. read more

SO GROSS!!! I ordered two things because I just moved to town and didn't want to have to make food. THIS BARELY QUALIFIES AS FOOD. Very rarely do I post negative reviews. Seriously, check my reviews! I love leaving good reviews. So I'm going to start this one off in a positive light. First of all, this review pertains to service, not food quality. I rather enjoy the food here. And the service is generally good, too. But today was laughable. Upon entering, there was one employee standing towards the back, seemingly lost in a text message conversation. She greets me without looking at me, and continues typing away. 30 second later she puts down her phone and approaches to take my order. I order a big burrito, so I'm confused when she slaps a tiny tortilla on the grill. "I ordered a big burrito," I tell her. Apparently I was wrong. "You ordered a mini." News to me. I insist that I ordered a big burrito. She glances down at the small tortilla and says to me "you ordered a mini burrito but its ok." Her statement is odd considering she continued to make my order with the small tortilla. Confused, I continue my order. Finally it's time to wrap the burrito. The worker performs hack surgery on this poor burrito until its innards are pouring into the to-go container. I look at her puzzled and ask her why the monstrosity before me exists. She tells me "you ordered a mini but then changed it to big. The tortilla is mini but the rest is big" Dumbfounded, I ask her to just make me another burrito with a proper tortilla. In impressive dramatic fashion, she tosses the whole container aside and agrees to re-do the burrito. I look around for emotional support but there is only one other soul to witness this event unfold: the man in line behind me. The disgruntled worker proceeds to take two complete orders from this man behind me, even though he asked the worker to serve me first, because I was in line first. After serving the man his meal, the worker returns to me as if she'd never seen me before and has me repeat my entire order, performing each task carelessly, skimping on portions. Before paying, I had to remind the worker that my order came with free chips, which something they know to ask customers if they want before packing the meal. Needless to say she wasn't going to offer me my free chips. I told her she had no reason to be upset with me, since I was just asking for what was ordered. She offered no response, no apology, no explanation. I assume she was just having a bad day, but we've all been there. Can't take it out on the customers. The burrito WAS good, though. read more

Bad Mexican Food served with hate. Looking at the imaginitive menu featuring items like "beef" and "chicken", I ordered nachos - I figured what could go wrong, but wrong it did go. From the point where the senorita blanca slapped the tortilla chips on the plate and dumped cheese on top, and quickly popped it into a microwave. I wanted to change my order to bottled water at this point, but persevered. She then proceeded do dole out glops of indescribably goo onto the melty microwaved chips, and then slapped it on the counter for me. The place has the ambience of an abandoned food court. It could be the setting for a post-apocalyptic dystopia where people went to hide from Zombies, knowing that even Zombies wouldn't eat the brains of the patrons. I can only imagine one would eat here by choice if they were training for a Mexican prison sentence, though I doubt the prison would use a microwave. If you really hate yourself, this is the place for you. read more

After having experienced the nirvana which is a San Francisco Mission-style burrito, few places can even think of offering up even a reasonable facsimile. Senor Sam's definitely falls into that category. Mind you, this is not to suggest SS isn't any good. It's just that unless you've spent your whole life living in a small town and your food-vision is thusly myopic, you'd think that SS was the best in town. Well, it certainly is among the busiest in town, that's for sure. But when you consider what places in Medford are always busy (e.g. Elmer's, Applebee's, Red Robin, Silver Dragon, etc.), you realize that busy doesn't equate to tasty. SS actually does attempt to recreate the almighty Mission burrito, in form at least. But unlike the myriad Mission burrito joints, SS uses typical mass-produced foodservice ingredients (think SYSCO) and not comida Mexicana autentica -- not that you'd expect otherwise in Medford. So in other words, it's plain old sour cream, and not crema, and cheddar & jack, and not queso casera. Their meats are actually decent-tasting, but I strongly suggest eating here as early in the day as possible. Much more likely to get freshly cooked meat that way. Put it like this -- you don't expect them to be running the grills all day long, do you? What's there in the evening is likely to have been sitting most of the day. Like I said, SS is decent. It's not (thank goodness) Mucho Gusto, and it's obviously a huge step up from Taco Bell. It's also, thankfully, not like any of the gringo-Mex places such as Si Casa Flores/Miguel's/Casa Ramos/La Fiesta/El Arriero. It's not the best burrito in the world, but in Medford, it most certainly will do. read more

I try to avoid this one because the ingredients usually aren't as good (especially the guacamole, which was memorably gross one time) and the customer service is kind of on par with what you'd expect at a bowling alley. This was actually disgusting. My coworkers and I placed a DoorDash order and got a variety of items. I ordered a chimichanga and instead got what looks like a regular burrito (since they did not fry it) with cold rice and beans on the side. The sauce (or maybe the chicken?) had a gritty texture to it like you were chewing sand while eating. Not to mention I ordered spicy salsa with it and it was mild as can be. No extra salsa sent with the one bag of chips they gave us too (and there were 4 items in the order). The burritos were just as bad, and my other coworkers tacos looked pretty bad too. They forgot her sour cream and guacamole, and it had dry and crusty shredded chicken with what honestly looked like a subpar salad on top. I came into this restaurant today and I was shocked at how filthy it was. The line where all the food is made was just COVERED with spilled food. There were dirty dishes/plates piled everywhere behind the counter that were covered with old food. Right next to a big pot of "cooking" chicken. The grill had charred old meat in the sides. The employees never wore gloves and put their hands in everything. The checkout area was covered in pieces of tortilla chips. The employees were completely indifferent. No smiles. Acting like they were put out. I have never seen this place so bad. I can't see myself eating there again knowing that the food is prepared in this way. read more

Terrible place, they microwave most food and pre-make chips and place it in dirty dish tubs, and to boot I was there once to pick up a Door Dash order and noticed they were dumping ice into the fountain drink machine and the tub they used had mold in the bottom of it! I have loved Sam's for over 20 years now. But this location is horrible! Burritos are still very good but the service is ridiculously bad. The workers are not friendly, act as though they are going out of their way to help you and are extremely annoyed if you interrupt their talking! I have been treated better at restaurants in Southern California than we have been here......and that's saying a LOT! My family has gone to this place almost every weekend since the first years they started. But we refuse to go to this location due to the horrible attitudes and bi**hy service you get. Burritos are excellent but the side of attitude you get with them is just not worth it. Save yourself the attitudes and goto White City one instead! read more

This has recently become one of my go-to Mexican joints in town. The portions are very generous, as their medium size is often a full meal for most and aren't terribly expensive. And the flavor is authentic and not too overpowering with spice (unless you want it to, then pick the spicy sauce). The restaurant itself is a little on the dimmer side, and looks a bit antiquated but still is decent enough to eat in. The staff are generally receptive and nice although sometimes I've had experiences with a younger female staff member where she gives off a complacent vibe and doesn't always roll my burritos tight enough so I get home and the contents are spilled everywhere. In short, the food is great, the atmosphere is alright, and the staff could be more attentive. But overall they keep me coming back so kudos. read more

This place seems to get a lot of hate, and maybe I'm biased since I've eaten here since i was in high school, but i actually like Senor Sam's. Disclaimer time, no this isn't as good as a burrito from the Mission district in SF, but i feel like that's an unfair comparison since that's widely considered one of the best burritos around, and very few places in the US can compare. (That's like complaining that Abbeys pizza isn't as good as New York slice.) Also yes the ambience is sparse and could use an update... That being said, I've always found the service to be extremely friendly, and the food to be fresh, affordable, and tasty. I always get the Jr. Big Burrito, and I love it. Pro-tip, instead of sour cream, try the spicy ranch, it's pretty damn good. So fine dining it is not. But it's a good lunch at an affordable price and no pretensions. Simple, fresh and tasty. I'd say it beats out Chipotle, Mucho Gusto, Baja Fresh, and the variety of wet burrito joints that are so popular around here. read more

Best quick Mexican (Americanized) food in Medford. I actually go to the one near N Riverside road and Barnett. Fast-casual food that is made to order in front of you. Pork or chicken is the way to go. Get it in a burrito, fried chimichanga, or in enchiladas and you're sure to be pleased. Make your burrito a "hot top" and they will smother it with enchilada sauce. The chimichanga is my go to. Doesn't sit heavy in the stomach after lunch either! Great food, good pricing, quaint atmosphere. read more
