We always hit the grocery store out north. It is close to downtown and has a good selection. We are always looking for a quick place to grab lunch. On this day it was Panera or this shabby looking Mexican joint. The parking lot was pretty full and I was feeling lucky, so in we went. The inside was bright and cheerful. We grabbed a booth for 2. Service was quick and we had chips and a drink while we browsed our giant menu. Normally, I will go with enchiladas when trying a new Mexican place, but like I said, I was feeling lucky. I ordered the chicken chilaquiles. I never had that dish before. It was so yummy and flavorful! I asked for spicier salsa and they brought out a brownish concoction. It had an off flavor and wasn't really that spicy. My partner compared it to battery acid, but I didn't think it was that bad. Anyway, it was the only bad part of the meal. I traded secrets about teasing hair with the waitress on the way out. I applied my Phoenix Arizona rule "don't judge a book by its cover" to this place and it worked out. Went back for more ;-) The waiter (Mesero) was super helpful this time - I asked if there was any way I could possibly order a Chorizo hardshell taco, and he set me up with two of them - and some Pico de Gallo. :^) If you like authentic Mexican food (like, you gotta order the Jarritos to go with the food--authentic) - try out this restaurant. On a tour of things here up north that we'd not tried, we stopped in to Senor Tequila for a dinner one night. The salsa was good, the chips were fresh, and it was seriously packed while we were in there. I was in a mood for nachos, but wanted to try more than that, since the menu was expansive. I ended up getting this monster thing, that had nachos, two flautas and a tamale buried under it all. I tried so hard to eat at it, but had to take it home and finish it the next day. The guac that I had on it was fantastic. The atmosphere was indeed bright and cheerful, reminding me a bit of a more authentic Carlos O'Kelly style of area, with the tin roofs inside and bright tablecloths under the glass tabletops. A packed parking lot is always a good sign. That's how I found out about Senor Tequila's, driving by the restaurantt at lunch time, noticing how busy the place was. I've been going to Senor Tequila's for years now, and I frequently bring friends and family. The staff is friendly and the food is always fresh and delicious. They offer an excellent and varied menu selection. Two of my favorites are the Chorizo Sausage with Eggs from the lunch menu, and the Chicken Mole. The Carnita Platter, the Steak and Shrimp Fajitas, the Pork Burrito, and their Guacamole are especially tasty too. . Heck, I like everything I've ever eaten there!! We have been here many times for brunch- was our first time for dinner. I had rellenos- they were fine but instead of being stuffed with cheese, dipped in egg batter and fried, they seemed to have a runny cheese sauce inside and a small omelet-like egg just laid on top of the pepper. This place has the best carne asada tacos ever. We have searched around trying to find something that compares with no luck. Even coming back from vacation in southern Texas we came here immediately because we missed the amazing tacos. They give a large amount of meat that has this perfect char on the outside with little crispy bits and is still juicy and flavorful. It is delicious! read more

Vegetarian aid is not really vegetarian. Rice had chicken powder. Black beans taste like they're literally out of a call with no salt or seasoning added. Enchiladas taste like they're filled with white velvita. Overall the averagest of the lower end places. Would rather go to taco bell. The salsa is 'eh, the hot salsa is 'eh with a little smokiness. The chips were less than 'eh. So, we waited. This is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant in the NKC area. I love their giant burritos and their margaritas are really good as well. I've never had a problem with the waiting staff and the renovation was an improvement from what it was. The pricing is fair for your portions and I've never had cold food. The hubby & I ordered Burrito Supremos to share. Menu said had 1 chicken & bean burriro and 1 beef & bean burrito. When we got our plate the burritos were covered with so much lettuce we couldn't even see the burritos. I cut into them to find out which was which. The chicken burrito also had peppers & onions which was not listed in the description... Very disappointed I ate my beef burrito. No beans or anything else in it... It was hamburger meat in a soggy tortilla and that's it... The chicken burrito didn't even have beans in it which was n the description. Service was luke warm at best. This is our favorite Mexican Restaurant north of the river. We had tried nearly everything with no complaints. The only minor criticism we have is the Hot Salsa is made from roasted chili's which has a somewhat burnt taste that we do not care for. First time back in a while and the food was good, and lots of it, but the service was to be desired. Before getting into the service I recommend the El Gordo. You'll get a variety of items with enough left over to take home for lunch or dinner the next day. We sat in the bar area and found it odd that the bar itself was closed. Nobody bothered to come by for at least 10 min to take our drink order and it took over 30 min to get our food, and that's with the place being completely dead. One of the staff members had his or her kids parked at a table during the shift, I get that and have no problem with it. The only problem was they were watching cartoons with the volume at full blast so that took away from the ambiance. If they're this inattentive and slow when it's not busy I can't imagine how bad it would be when it is packed. read more

My husband and I have become regulars here. When we treat ourselves to a night out, we brainstorm about where to go eat... We always end up here. The food is beyond compare. They have authentic Mexican dishes like chilaquiles, they have the typical "go to" goodies like burritos and chimichangas. Margaritas are cheap and fantastic and strong. Fajitas are always sizzling, and I would do just about anything necessary to get my hands on a bowl of their chorizo dip (fortunately it's only a few dollars so I don't have to.) The service is always excellent. Every single one of them is so friendly, thoughtful and helpful. Even if they are not your waiter/waitress they will stop and ask you if you need anything and gladly get if for you. Their prices are incredible. I ordered the combination Fajitas with chicken, steak, and shrimp. The first plate that they brought, yes, in fact, I did say, the first plate... was mounded with the aforementioned meat selections. The second plate, yes, we're up to # two, was rice, refried beans, sour cream, guacamole, salsa fresca, and a quesadilla. The third plate, was tortillas, flour and corn, wrapped in foil. I defy you to find larger portions in the great decadent United States of America. This meal alone, could feed a small village in Africa! Someone alert Sally Struthers. Just looking at all the food gave me a Sonoran Desert style of thirst. So, $15 pitchers of Margaritas fill the bill. And in the tradition of Senior Tequila's abundance, every time I requested a fresh glass with salt on the rim, they included a half of a glass of Margarita to boot! Now come on, these are my kind of people. Generous! I couldn't eat all my food, so like any intelligent woman, I turned my sights on the obtainable. The "empty glass/ pitcher club." Just left there and will never return. Very sub par Mexican food. Terrible service. We were given chips and salsa when we sat down and didn't get a refill until our food came out. I had the fish tacos and they were as bland as eating flour, no flavor, and very small portion. My wife had cheese enchiladas with beans that came right out of a can.
