    36. Godeung Eo and Sundubu Combo Special/36. MACKEREL / TOFU COMBO $19.95
    Nikky B.

It's still delicious and most affordable Korean food option within SE Portland in this ever growing inflation and anticipation of recession we're living in. 36. MACKEREL / TOFU COMBO 고등어 / 순두부 정식 $19.95 is and still my favorite on the menu. Price increased $1.00 from last year and still cheaper than comparable options around. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small space and lottery space with partition wall so plan accordingly during peak hours if you're short on time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Great food and great service. Prices were amazing! The bibimbap was one of the best I've had and it came with all the banchan too.

Seeking Korean we have never tried in PDX made this gamble trek down south worth it. Unpretentious, standard Korean restaurant decor. Clean, well kept but nothing new. Service ~ the lady was so kind & welcoming. She was hustling between an almost full house but gave every table warm greetings and attention. Food ~ simply tasty, delish, and we over ate by adding another dish! Banchan sides were plentiful & fresh. Happily refilled them before we asked. Hearing the staff call out customer names told us this is a neighborhood favorite in Happy Valley.

Really enjoyed lunch special - we got bibimbap and the pork bulgogi - partner has been coming here for months now, my first time - quick, convenient, yummy & well priced!

12/25/2024: 4.95 out of 5 - This update is long overdue, but I've been coming here for years and never ceases to amaze me. I often get the Kalbi as one of my main dish and, to this very day, I still feel it is the best in all of Oregon. THE. BEST! Also, along with the Kalbi I do like to get the Seafood Pancake, the Grilled Mackerel, Japchae with shrimp, Sundubu with oysters, and the variety of Banchan. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is kept clean, unassuming, and the food is deliciously made by a very kind, local couple who have been working together for most of their life.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely worth the try if you are craving something local and spicy.

Wanted a light dinner so we decided to try Seoul Korean Restaurant. It's a Chinese run Korean restaurant in the same plaza as Banh Mi Fresh. We dropped in on a Saturday evening (7:30pm). A couple tables were occupied with Kpop playing in the background. Service was the least friendliest we've experienced at a Korean restaurant. No tea or banchan refills were offered. Menu consists of appetizers, wok and grill, sundubu, tofu stew combo specials, soup and stew, fried rice and bibimbap. They have a few $10.95 USD daily lunch specials (12:00-3:00pm). - Banchan - kimchi, cabbage/carrot, cucumber, radish, mung bean sprouts, celery and tomato. All the side dishes were shockingly bland. - Bulgogi and sundubu (#34) ($20.95 USD) - beef bulgogi and vegetable tofu stew with a bowl of rice. Soup had no depth or complexity. Seemed they threw all the random vegetables they had on hand. Beef bulgogi was an okay portion but unmemorable. Wouldn't go out of the way to return to SKR.

This is a cute little Korean restaurant in a plaza, right behind the Ross, so it's very easy to miss. I came here for lunch one day, and it was pretty slow with just my friend & I + another table. There was a woman working at the time who was very sweet, and although the wait for both service and food to come out was a bit long, I didn't mind much. We got the cheese corn which was very good and there were also so many good side dishes. Both of our entrees (the bibimbap and soup) were so so filling and we definitely had leftovers. Super comforting place and very cozy. Would come back again.

On the East side, this is a solid Korean restaurant. Probably, best samgaetang (chicken soup) for sure. Being a family owned and operated restaurant, service can be slow but portions are generous and reasonable prices. Food was a 4 and service was a 2 so that left me with a 2 stars for this place. I was very ready to love this small, cozy Korean spot because I've been scouring PDX metro area for a go-to spot for piping hot soup and delicious banchans. And, like I said, their food was indeed good! Might be the best I've had in Portland and the closest too what I'm used to in LA. Super fresh banchans. The Yukgaejang was flavorful and delicious. The Squid Stirfry was fresh and had plenty of squid in it. Mandus were so-so but it ok. What really rubbed me the wrong way was how pushy the person waiting on us was. I'm sure they meant well and wanted to be attentive. It was just a bit much for me. I felt rushed to order and pushed to get things that I wasn't sure was what I wanted. Anyhow, I'd be willing to give this place another try and maybe stand my ground a bit more lol. Go check them out.

Seafood udon, soondubu & pork bulgogi combo special
    Isabelle R.

The restaurant is small and tucked away in a plaza with Ross and Michael's, so it can be very easy to be missed or overlooked, but it is well worth to pay a visit. The servers are great and provide wonderful customer service, and I've been back three times already. Their cheap lunch specials are a good option, but the star of their show is the spicy pork belly and squid. The pork belly is crisp and the squid is delicious! We've branched out to try their soondubu and spicy pork combos, both which are flavorful, and their seafood udon also provides lots of mussels, shrimps and other squid. The ban chan is also to die for: I love their cucumbers and bean sprouts and could just eat their ban chan forever! If anything, order the pork belly and squid with rice: it's the dish I'll continuously order when I come back to this lovely restaurant.

You ever go somewhere thinking you'll just grab a quick bite, and next thing you know you're planning your return before you've even finished chewing? That's this place. What I like is they don't box themselves in. You've got Korean, Hawaiian, and a little mix of everything going on. I lean Hawaiian most days, something about it just hits right, especially when you're not trying to go all in. Sometimes you're just grabbing food, maybe bringing something back for later, pacing yourself like a responsible adult. This is that kind of spot. It works with you, not against you. And here's the thing, I used to write those safe reviews. "It's cute. Nice service." That tells nobody anything. That's background noise. This place deserves better than that. This is a spot you actually remember. Friendly people, solid food, and a consistency that turns a casual stop into a routine. Happy Valley's already a great area, so you're starting off on the right foot just being there. But if you're walking into that food cart pod and wondering where to go, I'm telling you straight up, this is one of the top choices. No overthinking it. Take my word for it, or don't. Either way, you'll end up here eventually.

My go-tos are the Shoyu or Teriyaki chicken plates, the Kalua Pork Plate, or the Bibimbap. My only do-betters are that the teriyaki chicken can sometimes be dry, and I wish both the chicken dishes came with a sauce. They do have sriracha packets if you ask. The plates come with rice, a small lettuce salad and dressing (could use a little more of that sometimes), and a mac salad with pretty simple black pepper seasoning. It's a good amount of food for the price. I also really appreciate, and choose to visit K-Bop, because they use the compostable clamshell containers, and not the wasteful single-use plastic like so many others. Recommended if you're stopping by his cart pod.

"Let me know if you have any questions!". We had questions about her menu items, and she answered them nicely and thoroughly, in detail. Okay, so we order two things: the S3 and the Spicy Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen, and here's what U think about each: Tonkotsu Ramen: -The Meat doesn't have a huge initial, impactful taste, but the flavor settles in a couple seconds after you bite it and it's a very soft, warming feeling. -The Broth is where the spice is, and it's not like "oh my mouth is on fire" it's the type of spice that hits you in the back of the throat, so it's bearable but I couldn't chug it personally, I had to take sips which is nice for someone who devours their food like there's no tomorrow (like me). -The Noodles are.. just your typical Ramen noodles, nothing special to add there but nothing bad to say at all! -The Egg, although not marinated in soy sauce like some places do, was cooked well. The inside was soft and gooey, but the white was fully cooked. I have no complaints! -The Mushrooms added a nice texture to the noodles and the overall dish, and worked to make it even more satisfactory. The S3: -I don't have much to say because my cousin ordered it and I only had a few bites, but the veggies were cooked nicely... -The big boom about it was the noodles. If I had to describe it, I would say it's like.. an Orange Chicken type of Tater Tot, it was really unique and fun to eat. Next time I go, it'll be hard to decide what to order.. Upon first bite you'll realize how different it is from traditional fried chicken, and now it is the flagship for most people's first foray into KFC ( Korean Fried Chicken). It's a great casual place to have some fried chicken and snacks ( or even heavier meals) with the family or friends. Their service is like any other chain, don't expect anything stellar, but there are no complaints either. The food is consistent, fresh, hot, crunchy, and plenty of flavor no matter what you get. I recommend trying their original flavors the Spicy and Soy Garlic wings on your first venture, but if you're familiar already then dive into their more expansive menu! I haven't had a miss yet, though their specialty is definitely their wings. The rest of their menu doesn't miss, but they aren't top tier compared to dedicated Korean restaurants. Chinese Delicacy Restaurant - Yelp Review…read more A former chef of mine and longtime friend recommended this place, saying it was at the very top of his list for Chinese food in the Portland area. I'm still not sure whether he was feeling nostalgic... or slightly intoxicated when he made that claim. Like several other Chinese restaurants I've reviewed recently, the exterior leaves a rough first impression. The signage is faded, the building shows visible wear, and overall maintenance appears neglected. Yes, it's on 82nd Ave, so expectations are naturally adjusted, but even with that in mind the property looks tired. Inside was better, though far from impressive. The dining room was passable. I've definitely seen worse. The waitress was friendly, seated me quickly, and brought tea and a menu. I ordered a standard combo dinner with a few modifications. They advertise substitution charges, so I assumed special requests wouldn't be an issue. I asked for extra egg and green onions in the fried rice. Unfortunately, there were no green onions at all and maybe a quarter of an egg total. The rice was heavily saturated with oil, making it greasy and unappetizing. Instead of barbecue pork, it contained small, indistinct bits of pork. The sweet and sour pork was the only decent part of the meal. It had a thin, crispy batter and wasn't drenched in the usual overly sweet red sauce. The sauce was more orange than red and was acceptable, though nothing special. Personally, I missed the pineapple and bell peppers found in many East Coast versions. The chow mein was disappointing. Very few vegetables, soft noodles, and minimal flavor. It felt bland and uninspired. Let's not forget to mention the three small pieces of baby corn in the chow mein with deteriorated kernels. I'm pretty sure it was rotten. I can imagine them pulling it out of a 1970 something Tupperware dish in the fridge and tossing it in there. I imagine it was bought in a number 10 can and I've been sitting in the fridge for six months. My palette is quick to pick up anything spoiled. I requested hot and sour soup but was initially served egg flower soup instead. After pointing out the mistake, the correct soup arrived. It was scalding hot and extremely thick with cornstarch. Flavor-wise, it was boring and forgettable. One taste was enough. I also ordered barbecue pork on the side. What arrived were three very thin slices that looked and tasted old, with a slightly off color. Definitely not fresh, and frankly unpleasant. Overall, this visit fell well below expectations. Final Grade: D D for disappointing, with several elements edging toward downright unpleasant.
