I came here on a chilly day for brunch with my boyfriend and it was great. The inside of the restaurant has quite a bit of seating, but my boyfriend and I sat at the bar. Service was polite and quick. We ordered the tempura udon, fried soft shell crab, a variety of nigiri, and a salmon skin handroll. The tempura udon was good. The udon was light and noodles were delicious, but the tempura was a bit underwhelming and not as crispy as I would normally like it. The fried soft shell crab was also pretty good and the sauce complimented it well. Overall, for the variety of nigiri we ordered, they were not bad. You could tell the cuts of the sashimi weren't from a trained sushi chef, but that's a really minor thing when it comes to taste (the cuts were in the thinner side, and uneven). The quality of the fish itself was also pretty average. And, the last thing we ordered was the salmon skin handroll (which was a special item listed on their wall), and it was also pretty good. These types of sushi places are very popular in suburban areas: bright colors, sauce heavy, and creative names and concoctions. Probably not a favorite of Japanese purists, but I'm not one. After a very looooong wait (with only one other customer in the dining area), there was some payoff. First, the plum wine was delicious, but the pour very small. The Tempura Udon was very good, decent value, but only one piece of shrimp. The Denver roll was satisfyingly ample. The Sashimi Market bowl was an ice and radish show. Service was friendly. They offer 10% when paying cash, in others words, a 10% surcharge for plastic. It felt a little "nickel and dime", I can see why some reviewers felt cheated. Hate to say it but this place was a let down. I had called ahead of time to make a reservation but was informed that they don't take them on the weekends. So we arrived around 6 pm on a Friday night and it somewhat busy. My friend actually got there a few minutes before us and managed to snag a table. We ordered several rolls - they were very mediocre and small like the size of conveyer belt sushi. Not only that but it took over an hour for our order to come out and it was never acknowledged how long we've been waiting. Our waitress did not bother checking up on us at all or refilling our waters. Service was definitely lacking. We also only got 6 out of the 7 rolls that we ordered and was charged for an extra beer on our bill. Be aware that they apply an automatic 18% gratuity for groups of 4 or more. I used to love this place. Lately, the service is truly awful. The one time I went to eat there recently, I was almost entirely ignored. My questions were met with judgy looks, and I had to literally flag someone down to order more. The quality has gone way down, but the price has gone up. The size of the fish on top of my usual rolls was so thin this time, it was barely there. My husband and I have to order 4-5 rolls and it ends up costing $60+ dollars. Don't forget that if you take out, you pay a $2 charge for the to go box. And even if you GrubHub order, they adjust the charge afterward to reflect that charge! Nori is OK. This is the same building that used to be a "Bluefin Sushi", and "Dunkin' Donuts' prior to that. I do not know if Nori is the same as Bluefin, but just under a different name, if it is under new ownership, etc. as the waiter did not know the answer when I asked him. The ambiance is interesting. There are lots of small, colorful lights, a nice saltwater fish tankk, and a truly delightful full-wall mural. These high points are somewhat negated by the institutional tables and carpet. I don't attend dining establishments based on ambiance, I go for the food. In that respect, Nori is a mixed bag, with items ranging from dreadful to outstanding. Skip any and all deep-fired appetizers Each of ours (the popcorn lobster and chicken) were criminally overcooked. The salmon appetizer was also ridiculously overcooked. Of all of the appetizers we ordered, the gyoza were the only good items. Stick with the sushi, and you'll do much better. The nigiri were outstanding. Perfect ratio of fish to rice, with perfectly-cooked and perfectly-seasoned rice. The rolls were also quite good, with the fried rolls not suffering the same overcook of their appetizer counterparts. Service was fast and friendly, and the iced tea was remarkably good. Nori has a VERY small parking lot, but this didn't pose a problem on the night we dined there. Ordered agedashi tofu, miso soup, and caterpillar roll. Agedashi tofu came out as 4 pieces for $6.00. Made probably in a lunch time and saved for dinner orders. Miso soup was tasteless, almost without seaweeds insides. Caterpillar roll was something, something which I cannot call a roll at all. I think it also was a lunch leftover. Tiny 6 pieces, with very thin avocado slices, very small amount of eel and rotten cucumbers inside the roll. I understand that in pandemic all things are changed but hey Nori Shushi when you make your next order just keep in mind that because of the food quality you provide your customer will never come back.
