The clientele in the store is a nightmare, they were rude. But she was graceful. I will probably stick to the Springfield location because the entitlement of the patrons there is disgusting. Great little store to stop to get quick essentials. It's a smaller store so it doesn't have the variety that the larger stores have in DC or at the mall. If you're coming on foot, public transportation or uber is probably the best especially on busy days or snow days when the snows piled up on streets or parking is congested as it can be in Old Towne. I was greeted by a number of staff and was especially pleased with the service, knowledge and support from Ashley. She was friendly, listened to my needs and helped me find much more than I'd intended to come in for. She informed me of the various promotions in the store and was able to find me the answers that I needed regarding my Sephora credit card and Sephora membership. I'd like to give this store a higher rating; however, based on my overall experience I'll give it a 3. If it were solely on Ashley, it would've been a 5 but on everything. I'll give it a 3 read more

I always feel so unwelcome in this store. On more than one occasion, I've come in here and been ignored by the staff the entire time. I recently went in and stayed for 20-30 minutes, and the whole time, they just stared at me like I shouldn't be there (and most of the staff are women of color like myself, so I don't believe race or gender to be factors). Giving two stars thanks to the one person - a very sweet Latina - who helped me check out. She was the only person who spoke to me and had great energy with all the other customers as well. read more

I had a very bad experience with customer service at the King Street Sephora. I had intended to buy several things, but ended up handing my bag of products to a sales associate and walking out. The gave this Sephora two stars because the person I handed my bag to was polite and seemed concerned. I will never go back to this store. read more

As a loyal Sephora customer and top-tier member, I've always had positive experiences with both Sephora and Ulta. I'm a frequent shopper, and my visits have consistently been smooth--until today. This afternoon, I stopped by Sephora to redeem a certificate, and I was taken aback by the treatment I received. The staff seemed reluctant to assist me, and the entire experience felt unwelcoming and biased. It was shocking, especially since I've never encountered any issues before. My cousin even used to work at another location so I'm pretty familiar with the policy, and I've always felt comfortable shopping here. I understand that policies can change over time, especially with older certificates, but it shouldn't be the customer's responsibility to prove their validity. Sephora's reputation for excellent customer service is something I've always admired, so this experience was especially disappointing. I hope Sephora can address these issues, so other loyal customers don't have to feel the same frustration I did. While this won't deter me from shopping Sephora just not this location,and it's certainly something that needs attention read more

This is a smaller Sephora so they don't carry as many items as the larger stores. The staff is always helpful. Unfortunately Sephora doesn't know the ingredients of many products so, as a soy allergy sufferer, I am very limited in what I can buy here. read more

Not sure why reviews are so mixed for this location; I had great experiences the last few times I've been in. This 5 stars is specifically for Vi, who did my makeup for me before my engagement portraits. She did a great job finding more subtle/natural shades since I don't usually wear a ton of makeup. She was also fun to chat with! I let her make the decisions about how heavy to go on makeup, since I knew I'd be slightly uncomfortable with a lot on... but if you're doing portraits, you look much better from far back with professional makeup so your eyes pop, etc. I didn't feel pushed to purchase any products but I ended up spending $150 on them because I love the shades she matched to me, and the liquid blush from the Selena Gomez brand. She also (with very little direction from me, other than "not gloss") picked a beautiful shade of matte lipstick that she said is commonly used for bridal looks. Finally, I noticed Vi and the other makeup artist working next to her paying attention to when people walked in the door and greeting them, which I thought was nice. When I returned the next day to get some eyelash glue (since I wanted to reuse the eyelashes I bought), the line was long so a gentleman who worked there took me aside and checked me out via a mobile app. All in all -- very happy with customer service here. read more

Sephora has always been a great place to buy makeup, skin-care products, fragrances and more and the location in Old Town is one of the many in the DMV. There's nothing wildly special about the location in Old Town except for the fact that it's not inside of a mall, which I appreciate for popping in and out of quickly. But the purpose of this review is to shoutout the many kind workers I encountered last week when I popped in for my birthday treat. Everyone from the floor staff to the cashier to the manager was kind and helpful and provided exemplary customer service. While I typically don't have a preferred location, the service in Old Town was excellent and I will plan to do my shopping at this location moving forward! read more

This review is for NELLA!! I have visited Sephora many times asking for help with matching me to a foundation; I have received recommendations and I always brought home products that didn't quite fill the bill or completely ignored my skin's needs. Nella immediately offered the skin scan (why have I been a customer for years and never known about this???!) to determine my skin's needs + matching shades for all the products they carry. Whoa, whoa, whoa! Nella helped me try the shade in the brand I was interested in and even let me test primer beneath it to determine if I wanted to go that route. She was incredibly patient, answering all of my questions and did not try to oversell me on anything. In fact, I was attempting to buy an extra product which she let me know I probably didn't need. I took advantage of her expertise to get recommendations on some other products I'd been contemplating, and she helped me pick out quality products that were right for me. Please give this woman a raise or paid time off or something! I am beyond happy with her customer service and the knowledge she imparted on me so I don't have to keep making the same mistakes with foundation. Also - I always dread going in this store as it is always packed when I go in, but Nella made the visit smooth, efficient, and a lot of fun. read more

Worst Sephora ever. Every single Sephora I've been to around the country has been amazing... and then there was this one. Strike 1 - I initially ordered a product online to pick up in-store. I received an email 30 minutes later saying that it was cancelled. I checked back online the next day to see if the product was in-stock. It was. I decided to go to the store to purchase. They had PLENTY of said product in stock. Strike 2 - Customer service is TERRIBLE. As soon as I walked in, there were 2 employees at the door (I'm assuming one was the manager), and nothing. No greeting, no hello. Just too much personal chatter about someone they don't like, loud enough for the store to hear. Strike 3 - Again, customer service is terrible. I decided to check out perfumes, and there was a different employee right beside me and still nothing. He just looked at me and kept going. Didn't ask me if I needed anything, didn't say a word. Just acted like he was busy organizing the same shelf for 10 minutes. Not that I needed any help, but the fact that the staff decided to greet and help 2 women who walked in right after me felt a little discriminatory and unwelcoming. This Sephora is lazy and unwelcoming. And I will happily not be returning. read more

The staff at this location are extremely friendly and helpful, and it was encouraging to see that they had all the appropriate signage and were enforcing mask wearing and distancing. As soon as I entered the store I was helped by a kind and cheerful associate who answered all my questions and allowed for my quick turnaround at the store. She was extremely knowledgeable and even looked up extra information to ensure her advice was correct. I appreciated getting helped right away (I have been to other stores where associates don't even acknowledge you!) and by answering my questions so quickly, I was able to leave a very happy customer. I'm not very fussy about makeup - I like to keep things quick, easy, simple, natural. I also get very overwhelmed at stores like Sephora, so thank goodness for Rebecca!! She listened, and really understood me and quickly directed us to the products that were best suited for me. I needed a better undereye concealer than what I've been using for years - my skin is aging and my concealer was not the best color for me and was actually emphasizing my wrinkles. She matched my tone in ONE shot and this concealer blends so gently and nourishes my skin! Amazing! I definitely will go back to this location for Rebecca's guidance and expertise read more

I have been a customer of Sephora since 1998 when they opened in the U.S. However after two recent visits to the Old Town Alexandria location in April 2023 the customer service and manager were so awful that I have closed my Sephora account, unsubscribed from all their communications, and will never shop from Sephora again. Hopefully someone from corporate looks at this and looks into current management and staffing at this location on King St that has the worst and most insulting customer service of anywhere I have shopped - ever - anywhere in the world. I had a great experience shopping here today. I originally came for some Pat McGrath products, but I didn't realize this is a smaller store that doesn't carry that brand. I ended up talking with one of the associates Charisse for a long time, she was extremely helpful with all kinds of suggestions in many different brands for the products I was interested in. Also the store was pretty clean, Charisse helped me with everything so I didn't touch any products. They had a table outside where they were handing out hand sanitizer and I'm assuming disinfected baskets for shopping. read more

Not sure if this is a policy, but there was definitely a furry canine in line with me. I love this location. The folks who work here are always very helpful, sweet and not stuck up, like at some locations. Shae in particular is my go-to for recommendations on makeup and skin care. I recently mentioned a few issues I was having and she recommended some products that I have been using regularly and have seen a huge difference. She's great about letting me know about promos and will throw in samples. Little things like that make a difference especially when I spend $100 every time I walk into this store! The Sephora store on 810 King Street in Old Town Alexandria is a bit cheaper than its competitor on 600 King Street, but you get what you pay. With noisy music and employees some of whom look ill-kempt, the store feels like a Walmart or Seven-Eleven amongst perfume stores. One employee had difficulties understanding what I meant by "European brand," but at least, she figured it out. The next employee was probably the best: After selling me the perfume, she asked me to wait for her to ring up 2 other customers before wrapping the perfume into a box with a ribbon (for which I paid separately). But once she had started with the packing, an older employee, perhaps the manager, told her to stop because it was "not their policy" to do so. I explained to the manager (?) that I had waited for 2 customers to get the service and that now, nobody was standing in line whom we could have held up. To no avail. If a policy like this exists, it should be used to make things smooth when there are long lines. But there is nothing wrong with being kind and giving a bit extra service if there is no practical reason against doing so. I perceived the manager (?) as stubborn and inflexible in her thinking, or even enjoying to say "no" to a customer to show who is boss. I feel bad for the young employee who wanted to help me out and reasonably asked me to wait for 2 customers. That made sense to me. Her boss (?) comes across to me as mean and miserly, and her demeanor and attitude reflects on the store. Next time, I will go to 600 King Street, or buy from Amazon. read more
