Has anyone ever had this happen to them here?The first time, I thought it was a fluke but now that it's happened again, seems to be a common practice ("forgetting" to put customers items in the bag after they've paid for items). Today, I bought a handful of products (5+) and as soon as I got to the door took out the items that were in the bag to count. Once again, I was missing an item and immediately went back to the register. She honestly seemed surprised I came back so quick, but like I said, this has now happened to me several times (items I've bought going "missing" from my bag at the cash register, AFTER I've paid for them) so I count as soon as I'm given the bag. This has now happened at several local Ulta's I've visited (looking at you Leesburg Pike location), but ONLY when I've bought multiple of something or a handful of items. Worst customer service experience. I purchased two Tarte concealers on sale for $15 total. I later went back to exchange one of the concealers for a different shade. I explained to the cashier that I wanted to exchange it, but she misunderstood me and processed it as a return instead. She then told me to pick out the concealer I wanted. When I came back to the register, she told me I would have to pay $15 for the replacement concealer, which I was not willing to do since I had originally purchased two for $15 and only wanted to exchange one. She called the manager over, but unfortunately, the manager was even less helpful. She told me there was nothing they could do because the refund had already been processed. She made no effort to resolve the issue, even though the refund was processed due to a misunderstanding at the register. I ended up calling customer service myself, and they were able to resolve the issue by providing me with a discount code. This is something the store manager should have been able to address instead of simply telling me there was nothing she could do. I was very disappointed with the lack of professionalism and effort to resolve such a simple issue. I will not be returning to this Ulta location. read more

Great selection, I visited early in the day on a Tuesday. So the store was pretty empty. The employees were attentive and helped me find the items I wanted. The store is calm, clean, well organized. All givens fragrances are locked away so it was helpful that the store was empty and I was able to find someone to unlock the scents I wanted to purchase. I enjoyed the ambiance. So This Ulta Location Is Not My First Choice Ulta Location To Choose For My Ulta Shopping Needs As Unfortunately This Location Doesn't Have Free Parking Lot Unfortunately It's Metered Parking Lot But The Location Is Helpful Next To Target & Other Stores Around Near Pentagon Fashion Center Mall. Based On This Factor Plus Parking Isn't Easy To Find As Well So It's Not My Favorite Location To Go To As There's Other Locations That Offer Free Parking & Easier To Go In & Out For What I Need As I Can Get Lost In The Store For Hours Looking Around Shopping Which Isn't A Bad Thing But For Convenience Purposes This Location Is Good For A Quick In + Out Pick Up. Hi, William. I really like how you couldn't be bothered to answer my question when I came to the register to inquire about the location of a product. One of your associates did, thankfully. Not 30 seconds after the associate you delegated the menial task of answering a question gave me an answer, you followed behind me and my boyfriend. He was holding the exact product we were in pursuit of when you yanked the product out of his hand to put it back on the shelf. The customer that passed you who "knew exactly what she was looking for" went unbothered. I wonder, William, if your urgency to get to us had anything to do with his race. One of the associates made an error with an online return and made every effort to correct the mistake. She required some assistance from Susu (the manager) but was treated so poorly and unprofessionally telling her she did not have time to help her and that she would take care of it the next day. She eventually changed her mind and gave us the difference in the transaction amount through a discount on another item. Her unprofessionalism and rudeness to her staff gave me second hand embarrassment and I would not recommend this store to anyone. read more

I visited two Ulta stores in about a week. This store experience was opposite of a previous visit where I was approached by a few employees. No one approached me. I preferred that. I like looking at products and having inner conversations with myself ("Do I like this?" "What color goes with this?") The cashier seemed a bit preoccupied. I went to see the top stylist at this salon, Sirin, the day she was awarded top sales and being a "great stylist". I'm not sure what their definition of a great stylist is, but she certainly isn't mine. I have fine hair that I am VERY insecure about. I went in for a trim and to add layers for a fuller look. I walked out with a botched haircut (one I couldn't tell was until the next day because she round brush styled it). After realizing how horrible of a job she did, I called the store to ask for a refund. It took 3 visits to the store, 3 separate phone calls, and speaking with the salon manager and the store manager (each told me they would call me back, they never did). On my final visit, the manager was SO rude and I had to convince her to give me my refund, and even then she didn't do what I really wanted which was put the points back onto my account and instead she issued me a gift card. 1000 points I used for the haircut! I worked for ulta for three years and I know how these refunds work. This store desperately needs to work on its customer service and addressing concerns in the moment, not nearly a week past the issue. I will not be returning and will continue to tell people about my experiences with this store and with this stylist. read more

I had no idea that Ulta had so many options at their salons. I was a little hesitant because I haven't been to a salon in almost 7 years and I have natural hair. I was happy to see that they have stylists who cater to my textured hair. I picked James to be my stylist because of his Elite status. I am so glad that I did!! James was so kind and was gentle on my hair. He talked to me before each step in the process and made sure I was comfortable with the much needed trim and overall results. I loved the results and will definitely be back to see him! He was very personable and I enjoyed our conversation. read more

For the past month I was going through a major hair meltdown, and I didn't want to spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on getting my rainbow hair back to being a blank canvas, and my roots were starting to grow in as it had been about a month since I got it done. I decided at first to do a clarifying treatment along with an express root touch up, but DJ literally came to my rescue and recommended I go fully blonde again. Which I gotta say was a really smart choice on his part, because the full blonde treatment, while it did cost more, it's okay because it did its work on my hair. I was looking for a place to get a haircut and silk press but I was overwhelmed at the amount of options in the DMV and lack of transparent pricing for services. I ended up booking James for my appointment and he's going to be my go to as long as I live in this area. He looked at the picture I brought and cut my hair to my requested length and did a great silk press! While the retail side of this store is like heaven, the hair salon is like the third ring of hell. I have curly hair and was thrilled to see an option for a "curly cut" at the salon. I assumed that if it was specifically advertised (and charged a premium, I may add), the stylists must be specially trained and experienced with curly hair. MY BAD for assuming such common sense. My stylist, James, butchered my hair and gave me the worst cut I've had since my mom tried to cut my hair in high school. Like I was literally embarrassed to be seen in public and just tried to wear my hair tied back as much as possible. He gave me "layers" but they were so far apart and not blended that it looked like he couldn't decide between long hair and a bob so gave me both. It was ridiculous. I had to have this abomination of a haircut fixed at a credible salon. Avoid this place! read more

It's located near the Pentagon Row Harris Teeter. I recommend parking at the Army Parking Garage portion of the Harris Teeter, since the escalator takes you right up to Ulta Beauty. In addition, when I came Friday night, and stayed until around 11:30 pm, parking ended up being free for me. The gate to leave was open. When I entered Ulta Beauty, I wasn't greeted, but I knew exactly what I had wanted: a red bean colored nail polish and a new makeup brush set. After browsing for 15 minutes for the matching nail polish I had wanted, I ended up stopping a Ultra brow employee, asking her if she worked there and could help me with finding the right selection. She happily did. Unfortunately, there wasn't a perfect match, but she had tried her best. On the left side of Ultra, there is the holiday sale selection. You could find items there for 50% or even 75% off. I found a red OPI nail polish for ~4$ when it could normally be up to around $10-12. There's also quite a few makeup brush sets on sale as well. James Charles makeup brushes are on sale for 50% off currently, making it about $~25. I'd say check out this place if you're in the area! Personal hygiene and self care is important! read more

Incompetent. Negligent. Christy L. cut off a foot of my hair when I wanted 4-5 inches cut off. Christy L. did me dirty. The salon's manager and salon's assistant manager seemed disinterested and unwilling to help. The salon's assistant manager told me not to book general stylists and that it was my fault for not booking the other stylists with more experience. What happened: I went in and Christy L. was 20 minutes late. Which I was fine with -- I don't mind waiting. When I sat down in her chair, I told her how I stress over getting my hair cut because of a prior experience I had of another woman cutting off ALL my hair. To which Christy L. JOKED ABOUT CUTTING OFF ALL MY HAIR. And I said back, "Haha, good joke." She must not have been joking when she said, she too would cut off all my hair -- even though I told her about this past experience. I even presented her with 5 pictures to look at (I found them on Pinterest for a reference point). I explained to Christy L. exactly what I wanted: 4 (maybe 5) inches cut off and for her to add face framing / even out my grown out curtain bangs. She had one earbud in the entire time she was talking to me. Apparently, she was only listening to the music playing in that one ear because everything I told her -- DID NOT HAPPEN. I told her how I liked my part before she started cutting, she acknowledged it and continued to cut my hair how she wanted my hair be parted - not how I told her. I was dumbfounded - I still am. I hate what she did to me, SHE CUT OFF 12 INCHES OF MY HAIR. It used to touch my lower back and now it doesn't even pass my armpits. I immediately left after the haircut. I returned the next day to get my money back. When I came back for the refund, the assistant manager in the salon told me to only book the "expert" stylists (or whatever the top tier stylists are called) because with normal hairdressers it won't be "as good" and they "don't do a good job" compared to the better hairdressers. AGAIN, DUMBFOUNDED, WHY WOULD THEY HIRE BAD HAIRDRESSERS TO BEGIN WITH?????????? How was it my fault for not assuming they would hire incompetent employees to begin with? Why would I assume that cutting off 4 inches would turn into losing a foot of hair by trusting a basic hairdresser? Isn't that a basic skill??? I asked both the assistant manager and manager of the salon for a refund and for someone else to fix my curtain bangs. They told me that I could have one or the other but not both. THEY RUINED MY HAIR AND MADE ME CHOOSE IF I WANTED TO PAY THEM AGAIN TO MAYBE FIX THE FACE FRAMING (not even my whole haircut), OR TO WALK AWAY WITH MY REFUND, RUINED HAIR AND RUINED FACE FRAMING. You know, this hair cut would've been fine, IF I WANTED BAD FACE FRAMING AND FOR CHRISTY TO CUT OFF A FOOT OF MY HAIR THAT I'VE BEEN GROWING OUT FOR 4 YEARS. I'm new to the area and told her this. I was coming here because I don't know where to go. WELL I DEFINITELY KNOW TO NEVER COME BACK HERE. I believe in bad days, I believe that everyone is entitled to mistakes. Christy L. didn't make a mistake -- she took off more than double the length I asked for and didn't fix my face framing pieces (she made them noticeably worse and uneven lengths). I told her four inches, she said no problem and got to snipping. When she put my hair in front of me and said, "This is four inches. Want five? I can take more off but we can't go back!" I was in shock, I was in denial that she ruined my hair. I love my hair, I love being a redhead and I love how long it was 24 hours ago. I want a time machine so I can go back and tell myself - run don't walk away from Christy L.'s and Ulta's salon booth. Christy L. was right about one thing -- I can't go back. I wish I could though. So again, Christy L. is negligent and incompetent. The salon's assistant manager and salon's manager weren't at all trying to help me - they looked mostly disinterested and tried to get me to SPEND MORE MONEY. Neither one sounded surprised or concerned about what I had told them - to them it was no big deal (maybe even normal and expected). This was my first time at an Ulta, and it was no different than any Sephora I've ever been to, except service was worse. I recently decided to ditch my eyelash extensions and am going through serious withdrawal, so I wanted some equipment to try and easily apply falsies. Granted, I did come here after a bottomless cocktail brunch so I wasn't at 100% intelligence levels but with the associate's unfriendly and somewhat reluctant guidance, I basically ended up with two applicators that serve the same purpose... and lashes I'm still not able to put on, although I guess that's more of a me problem. I was always excited to go to an Ulta since there weren't any in the area I'm from, but this one didn't make much of an impression, positive or negative. I scheduled an appointment to get a blow out at the salon because I saw that Ulta charged less. I didn't get a blow out, instead they blow dried by hair pin straight and gave me curls. I said I wanted big voluminous curls and they gave tight curls. Nobody offered to give me a discount or anything even though they knew I left unsatisfied. While this Ulta may have a great selection and be clean and well-organized, unlike most others, the service is actually worse. I didn't believe Ulta customer service could be any worse, but at this location, it is. I went in to return something and the cashier was not only unfriendly, she was poorly trained. And she was very rude to the customer in front of me. The manager had to come by a few times and did not seem to care about the long line with only one cashier. The store was empty, except for the line. The attitude from both was appalling. I wanted to buy a few things after my return, but decided not to give this location my business. My daughter went to get her hair done, we went through exactly what she wanted and asked for pricing. The hair dresser said $150-$200 dollars. When we left she charged $391!!! When asked she said it was extra because she had to dye the roots, are you kidding, she didn't know that when we went through the whole consult? Truly disappointed will never go here again. I came here to pick up my birthday gift and I realized that it was their first day open! The team was very attentive and helped answer all my questions! The store even had a new smell! The layout is similar to most Ulta's right hand is prestigious products and left is drugstore. There is a salon in the back of you would like to get your hair done. I really like that you can test out drugstore products here, I find this to be a hit or miss at most Ulta's. They are missing a couple products but that's probably because they're still stocking. All in all it's brand new and clean! There's also parking, which is a plus in this area! read more

Zero customer service. We came for a PRE-ORDERED pick up between 2:45 and 3:15pm on Saturday 29 April. The customer service representative could not find my order and did not know how or where items were stocked on shelves. The representative was short and demonstrated zero urgency and zero ownership. This is clearly a failure on multiple levels, including the manager, as well as, the representative. I cannot believe this store has earned 4-stars given our experience. read more

After a few years with a pony tail, I was ready for a shorter hair style. Through reviewing the reviews of salons in my Crystal/Pentagon City neighborhood, Ulta and Jay kept coming up for a variety of compelling reasons.  Even in our first contact, he showed his compassion and sensitivity by adjusting his timetable to accommodate my jumbled schedule. I wanted to shed the longer hair but not too short while dealing with thinning hair on top and being lazy with daily hair care.  Jay listened intently and embraced my objectives and crafted a nicely tapered style that gave me volume in the thinning area and resulted in a low maintenance style with little or no product intrusion. Got a great haircut today by Sirin. Very reasonable priced considering salon prices for a haircut seem to be between $30-$200 in the DC area. I didn't leave with scraps of hair all over my face& neck or my hair gunked up with products I'd never use. I appreciate she took time to play it safe on the first cut then after I decided I really liked the direction she cut more to my request. I've never used Ulta's services until now and I'll certainly return because of Sirin. read more
