I had my first Shellac manicure and spa pedicure in my living room where I sat on my own couch in my warm living room. She has her own salon chair and table and all I need was a kitchen chair for my nails and my cozy couch for my pedi. I had set up the dining room table and the kitchen table hoping that it would work for her but worried it would a nightmare for both of us. To my surprise she came equipped with everything! It was literally like she brought the salon to my house. I was able to work, have a conference call and I didn't have to worry about waiting for my toes to dry and then leave the salon in the freezing cold with sandals on. I'm spoiled and I don't think I can ever get my nails done in a salon again. I saved about 21/2 hours by not having to get out of work on time, drive in traffic, battle downtown San Mateo parking and remember to have change....and oh wait...eat something because I worked through lunch. She was like a nail genie. She arrived, worked her magic and then disappeared. No mess or trace. She even tapes a bag to her table to put all of the cotton and paper items in and takes it with her! She confirmed with me throughout the process to make sure that I was ok with the short length and that she wasn't cutting it too short...so I appreciated that since most hairstylists tend to cut your hair shorter than you want. This boutique salon is super cute. I was the last customer of the day so I was the only one there. But the salon only has the owner and Stephanie who work there so it's never over packed with customers and a million other stylists chatting. It's a very imitate and cozy. Steph is super fun to talk to for the hour that I was there. I'm very happy with my cut and have been getting non stop compliments from friends and co workers. Will definitely be back!!!!

I even went into the salon in person to make the appointment and specifically pointed out a client whose hair was being styled with curls using a curling iron and asked if they could do something similar for me. The receptionist assured me that it would not be a problem. When I arrived today, the stylist, Elisabeth, was rude and unwelcoming from the moment I walked in. She had a negative attitude throughout the interaction. After I took my ponytail down, she told me that because I have a lot of hair and because the appointment was apparently booked only as a "blowout" and not a "blowout + curls," she only had time to blow dry my hair and did not have time to curl/style it because she had back-to-back appointments scheduled afterward. Instead of trying to help find a solution, she blamed the person who booked the appointment. As the customer, that is not my responsibility -- especially when I booked well in advance and specifically discussed and pointed out the hairstyle I wanted in person beforehand. The entire experience felt unprofessional, dismissive, and extremely frustrating. Now I'm left scrambling last minute trying to find another salon before my event tonight. Internal system issues should not fall on the client, and I was unsure why this was being explained to me instead of simply addressing the scheduling problem. What I would have appreciated was transparency during the call that morning. I should have been told: "There will not be enough time today to include your haircut. Would you like to proceed with color only or reschedule?" Instead, I was asked, "What is more important to you, your haircut or your color?"
