Yelp 100 2018 Challenge 21/100 I don't know when this Sephora got all new staff, but it was a needed and fantastic change for this location. I rarely go to sephora for anything but skincare, but wanted a lightweight foundation to smooth my skin out today as well I was first acknowledged by someone in the store (didn't get her name) who somehow saw me with things in my hand and brought me a hand basket while i was looking. She then turned me over to Tom after I told her what I was looking for. Tom did a coloriq match for me and knew everything about every foundation that came up (it was impressive). Tom then had Christine do a color match for the new Nars formula and she was so helpful, nice, and patient. She pulled 3 colors just in case, sanitary, and just an all around nice person. I was never able to get a color match or any type of quality service here before when needed, so im very happy for the new staff. read more

People working there have no idea what they're doing. They recommend and apply makeup but really have no experience doing what they do. They also need more knowledge knowing what is in stock and what is out. 3x I was shown a specific blush and comcealer and when it came time to purchase they were out. I found more products on my own without help. read more

Came in on my work break to get some skincare and I had my work bag with me. The entire time while I was in the store there were multiple employees eyeballing my tote. They weren't even trying to be discreet and it made me feel very uncomfortable. I'll stick to Ulta or ordering online from Sephora. read more

I didn't want to put even 1 star! This place is horrid! Especially the security crew [[[ OLIVER, YOU STILL THERE DA???]]]]] Years ago I was in this store with my 1 year old. I bought a perfume and left. I was about 10-20 feet out of the store when fat OLIVERRRRRRRRRR ran and stopped me. He says, "Miss, I have to check your stroller, I saw you put something in it", I said no, you're wrong-and he didn't let me speak, he statred yelling "STOP, STOP, SHUT-UP, come with me". They took me to a small room out in back. I sat down, pulled my son out of the stroller as they proceeded to check it. The y check the Diaper bag, my purse, my other store shopping bags. They check the purchase I made in the store which was for the perfume. It cleared. They asked me to take off my shoes, my jacket, my sweatshirt-it was January and cold-and I cleared again, I had no other merchandise aside for the perfume I paid for. The police was called-I didn't know why at that moment-where OLIVERRRRRRRRR told Police I assaulted him by attempting to slap him IN the store. An Officer asked "Miss is this correct", I said no, that's not correct. I clocked him once[I've done Jiu-Jitsu since I was a kid] they had me in the back room BBBEEECCCAAAUUUSSEEEEE when I went to sit down he reached over and tried to remove MY SON from the stroller. To that I sckreeched "WTH DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING, DO NOT TOUCH MY CHILD!" I pretty certain the entire store heard me because not a minute later the store manager/assistant manger and 4 other employees rushed into that back room to find out what happened. OLIVERRRRRRRRRR lost his balance, but he didn't fall. The Officers told him "well, everything seems to be in order; the woman(me) has areceipt for her purchase, and it's apparent she didn't steal anything from the store." With I was told, "Miss, your free to leave" then OLIVERRRRRRRRRRRRRR moving his triple chins aside barked "hey, she hit me, what about that, I want to file a complaint and /or have her arrested"...the Officers responded with "Sir, you attempted to grab her son, you do not mess with Mama Bear's Cub, she's leaving, you'll survive". Oh lord, I hate this location. Hate is a strong word but...I hate this location. Let me start off by saying that I spend an appallingly large amount yearly at Sephora. I've been a member of their Rouge tier of customers since the program began. If I'm in the store, I'm probably gonna drop a few coins (but probably not at this location anymore). This place is just an unfortunate confluence of being in a busy mall, has bad/nonexistent customer service and messy, tipped over, empty displays. The redesign of the floor space has made it even more cramped inside, and when people are maneuvering strollers and bags, ugh, it can be a nightmare. I will give the store some credit, while I used to be ignored 100% of the time, I'd say that number had dropped to 50, which is still weak but getting better. The part I truly can't tolerate though is empty displays and disgusting testers. I never see anyone going around cleaning up, restocking and putting things back in order. Why isn't that a dedicated job? It's almost a given I won't find a product I'm looking for because it has been emptied from the shelf, but the app will show it in stock, and there are miraculously more in the bins underneath the displays (but good luck finding someone to help you!) Given a choice I will always visit the Calabasas location over Topanga. Better layout and better service. read more

'had appointment @ 4:30 pm someone called & left message that the original makeup artist "Lydia" isn't avail so they change it to another person "Samantha", we got there on time & said "Samantha " is on break, that our sched is 4:45! I was arguing with the lady telling her that our appointment is 4:30 not 4:45, I was willing to to have any artist available, but NO she said I had to wait....4:49...I didn't see Samantha.. girl came to me apologizing for the inconvenience?! Love the store. Not the biggest Sephora, but have all the important things we all like. Today store was almost empty and I had time to go Uber all the things I like. Also staff were free so got to chat with them and get some tips. Topanga mall can be a hit or a miss. A lot about the day you choose to come here. Listen, I'm super new to make up and am a bit intimidated by all the products and details that go into a great look. I went in looking for a new foundation for my sensitive and dry skin. I needed one by the end of the day and was pretty sure I was gonna be stressing about what to choose. And honestly, I really hate pushy salespeople, so I was nervous When I told an employee about needing help, she introduced me to Mykel. Not only did he help me find EXACTLY what I needed super quickly, he made me excited about different products and taught me about them and how to use them. He made everything clear and easy to understand too! I know Sephora workers are "supposed" to do those things but he was so genuine and friendly, he truly went above and beyond just by being himself. I really have had only great experiences here. I came in on a weekday after dinner and had to return a foundation. I was looking for a NARS foundation to buy instead. I couldn't remember which color I had tried and was so lost with like, 12 different swatches on my arm.. when Maddie came over and asked me if I needed help. She grabbed a few colors and took me over to the mirror to try them on and told me which one matched the best. She taught me about warm/neutral/cool tones and I finally found out that I'm neutral! The foundation ACTUALLY MATCHES MY SKIN. THANK YOU MADDIE! I also wanted a nice primer and was pretty lost with that too. She recommended the NARS primer.. and taught me about silicone based primers working better with silicone based foundations. I had no idea! Every time I've been here I have had really awesome customer service and the employees actually try to figure out what I want and how to help, unlike a lot of other stores that just push a certain product. Sephora is one of my top favorites beauty store. I never took make up classes before but this store has professional make up artist available for make up appointment. The girls are very attentive and very helpful assisting costumers. Sephora membership sends email reminder on new line make up palette and other designer brands. I always like when they have the cyber Monday and Black Friday sales. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE, People who work there love to call themselves "beauty advisors", but they KNOW NOTHING about products and are awful at matching you with color or foundation. They will lie and tell something looks great just to get rid of you. I have been in this store several times since stores reopening after covid, and the sales people jut get worse and worse SO RUDE! Catalina did a fabulous job of matching my skin tone (which is pretty hard in these mask-wearin' days), and was so helpful in recommending a couple other products that might pair well with it. 2014 YELP 100 CHALLENGE - 50/100 Meh, this Sephora is just ok. Located smack dab in the middle of the mall, next to Lush Cosmetics. This store isn't the biggest Sephora I've ever seen, and has a rather wide and shallow layout as opposed to long and deep. The employees are kinda hit and miss, but I feel like I generally get greeted whenever I enter the store. I've noticed they've run out of a few products during some of my visits here. I came here once to buy Dior's Creme de Rose and they were sold out for awhile. Also, all three of the Urban Decay Naked palettes were completely sold out last time I visited. This location is definitely not my favorite, but for the most part it gets the job done. read more

I went in for a Beauty Studio appointment. I wanted to learn how to apply makeup for myself. I was greeted at the door by Tarifah, and she was going to be the associate to help teach me. Tarifah was very thoughtful, and took her time to teach me what she was doing. She answered all of my questions, even if I asked them twice. In addition to this, her work is very good. I left feeling like a new person. I also felt like I would be able to apply all that she taught me. I appreciated that she had a sweet energy about herself. I didn't give this location 5-Stars, because I didn't think that everyone there was as nice as she was. I witnessed managers talk to associates in a way that I wouldn't like if I worked there. It made me feel like I lucked up with Tarifah, but it wasn't a good look overall. read more

I am usually intimidated to enter Sephora as a male with limited finances who can't spend a lot on designer colognes. I was approached by, BeBe, who is the Men's Fragrance Expert at the Topanga Location, who is absolutely amazing ! BeBe delivers not only phenomenal customer service, she also has a broad spectrum of knowledge in finding the exact essence of the scent I described. I wanted something on the earthier side, with a botanical scent, and wasn't something generic and gross like Spice Bomb. I haven't had the experience that other reviewers have had; there always seem to be available salespeople. I"m really surprised I haven't reviewed this place yet! The store has tons of stuff to look at and sample. I do wish that some of the sample areas looked a little more clean; I really think that's more of the clientele than the employees. While i do enjoy going into the store, truth be told, I often go into the store to check out the goods and then order online. I get more free samples that way =) read more

Every Sephora is pretty much the same, so what stands out is the service. This particular location could use a class on customer service, just sayin'. Like most girls, I have specific products that I stick with. With that said, I usually go in, find my item and purchase - no upsell needed. The only thing I need is a point in the right direction where my product lies. I've been here twice in the last couple of months and both times, the girls acted like I was bothering them. Sephora is of course like heaven for beauty junkies. I usually visit this location because it's really close to me. I wouldn't say that everyone that works here is extremely knowledgeable but you do run across some of them who really knows their stuff. I love that if anything doesn't work out, you can return it no questions asked. I mean that's kinda important. You don't really know how well you're gonna like the new blush until you really wear it with your whole get up. The checkout process here is just always the best and keeps me coming back. They are always so delighted to ring you up and chat about your purchase, and of course offer any new samples they have in. I thought I was alone until I read the other reviews. Hundreds of people have also had this experience. It got so bad at one point I thought it was a weird joke. I was followed and asked if I needed help approximately 9 times within a few minutes. I was treated like I was about to steal something when I was just simply browsing the items...after being asked what I needed to find 15 times, sometimes even multiple times from the same person, I got so uncomfortable that I thought to ask a question so they wouldn't think I was stealing or something. I asked for a blush that was darker then most to blend more easily with my bronzer. The employee looks at me and goes "Your blush is supposed to be lighter than a bronzer..." with a disgusted look in her face. Clearly, that's not what I meant. I now avoid this location at all costs and my friend and I still talk about how bizarre, unprofessional, and uncomfortable our time in this store was. read more

I just wanted to give a shoutout to Kat. I got one of those personalized makeovers, the ones which you have to purchase at least $50 of product afterwards. This makeover seriously has changed my life! Not to sound overly dramatic... lol, but really, I never knew how to do my makeup before, and she showed me some key products to hydrate my face. I am so appreciative of the time she took with me. She had to start over twice because my skin is THAT dry that it would begin to flake a bit after she applied the foundation. She even asked one of her coworkers for help so that my face would look smooth, and he suggested a product that was super amazing and worked with my skin. It's a type of chemical peel called Milk (I think?) anyway, I know the time allowed is only 45 minutes or so, but Kat took well over probably an hour and a half to make sure I left looking wonderful. She is super sweet and knowledgeable and I highly recommend if anyone is curious to see themselves transform into a beautiful butterfly, ask for Kat! read more
