WOW, what an incredibly horrible experience! My first time there... never again. Many reviews stating how rude these people are-- believe it! I walked in and zipped my 5lb, 18 yr old dog up in my jacket even tho the security guard said it was ok to let him walk around but I figured it was more considerate to carry him in my coat. The g*y male employee had attitude written all over his face and demeanor but I told myself not to judge by appearance and asked for his help to find a foundation. Man, was he snotty from the get go. He led me to the Dior products and put some foundation on the back of his hand. I asked if they had any organic foundation and he rolled his eyes and abruptly returned the bottle to the shelf like I had totally inconvenienced him. Wow. I said, "it's OK just carry on what you were doing." He reached over to my face to dab product on it WITH HIS FINGER, and my toothless dog gave him a warning. A 5lb 18yr old toothless dog and this guy acted like he was physically abused. It's not like he even got bit, and my tiny dog couldn't cause any harm even if he tried. He was so rude, "Yeah, no, this isn't going to happen." SUCH an over-reactive jerk. I should have trusted my instincts about him. I walked away from him to another employee, very sweet young girl. Saw the jerk guy gossiping about the incident in the corner with coworkers. Walked by him and called him a jerk (the least of which he was) and he got all uppity like he'd been slapped, saying I had to leave over and over again, making a big dramatic scene. Asked for manager (she was one of the recipients of the gossip in the corner). She wanted another employee to accompany me and the girl who was going to help me-- what? Like I'm some criminal threat? Nice management and customer relations-- NOT. Rude, oppressive, unprofessional. Wow, I will never step foot in there again. He nor the manager ever even smiled. Horribly run. If I were the owner, I would be mortified reading these negative reviews and DO something about it! The young girls there were very sweet but this fussy, g*y Karen guy and manager were just awful and should not be working with the public who are there to spend their money and support their business. I'm so sick and tired of businesses like this where they think they're doing YOU a huge favor. That generation (particularly of his "ilk") are so entitled and governed by their self important, over-exaggerated feelings. IT'S NOT ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS. Do your job or don't work with the public. I not only do not recommend giving this place your business and your money, but would say steer entirely clear of it. Was at this location today with my girlfriend. I witnessed a woman with a small dog in her coat being treated abominably by the young male employee and the manager. I saw the whole thing and couldn't believe how rude they both were. The young man should not be working there, let alone with the public, period. The manager needs a serious lesson in customer service and appreciation. I am aghast at the lack of professionalism at this store. I took my girlfriend out of there after seeing their behavior. Hailey was extremely rude, I came in to return a few items and let her know they had already been used. Even after I said that, she opened everything and went ahead and unscrewed the shampoo bottle, the hair mask, and the blush. I reminded her again, they have been used, but she responded in a very unfriendly tone saying don't worry and continued anyway. She didn't ask if I wanted a return receipt and just ended the interaction with "Have a goodnight" If she's feeling sick or in a bad mood, it might be better for her to take the time she needs instead of making customers feel uncomfortable. I wish I could leave a review that isn't so challenging to write. The manager here has treated me well when I walk in wearing designer clothing but after visiting the store after the gym (no makeup on/hair in a bun) I was treated very poorly. I spend around 1k a month at this store and at one point they wouldn't refund/credit 1 concealer that they gave me by mistake in the wrong color because it was 62 days past the policy. Unwilling to work with me and I have never returned anything else. I'm sad to know this location has a manager that treats people this way. The manager ignored me several times and she became all smiles every time she then saw me at the cashier ringing up all of my regular purchases. I love Sephora but I don't love the sales leader here. I waited next to a representative for 10 minutes to ask to open up a case. That whole 10 minutes my presence wasn't acknowledged, not hi welcome in, ill be right with you. Granted she was having a nice conversation with the client, but the representative literally did not acknowledge my presence at all. I needed something done that only a worker can do. What's the point of having the inventory put away if none of your colleagues are going to help. I was so frustrated that no one wanted to help me in the store i just put down all the products i was going to buy and leave. I'll just order online and wait the week. read more

It's nice to have another Sephora in Marin. Not only am I impressed by the way I'm immediately greeted, but also for their assistance finding products. I'm surprised to see all the negative reviews about the service since the employees provide great customer service when I've shopped here. On one of my visits, I was asked multiple times if they could help me find anything. I've also been to the store when it's been pretty busy and there was a bit of a wait. The greeters remain calm and professional during these times and make sure my name is added to the waitlist. They offer services such as color matching. The employees who have helped me always do a great job and take their time to find the perfect shade of foundation. Another time, an employee showed me how to properly apply bronzer since I didn't know and I had the chance to perfect it afterward with her. These are just a couple services, but there are many more they have to offer. I'm knocking off one star because there could be some improvement with keeping displays stocked and the testers more clean. read more

I immediately asked an associate for Pat McGrath only to be told they do not carry that brand at that location. I'm going to guess because this store is much smaller than others, but I was annoyed nonetheless. As one of the few black owned beauty lines, it's disappointing that I cannot find it at all sephoras! Do not buy gift cards from Sephora. Many of them get hacked and have a zero balance when you try to use. Sephora knows this, won't stand behind the card, and continues to sell cards the recipients often don't actually receive. Happened to me at this store yesterday. I am a very frequent shopper at Sephora and I know that employees ask if you need help but today, I felt that I was constantly followed by an older women employee. I called out to my sister who was about five foot steps away and the employee began to look at me strange and asked if i needed help. I said no and we walked away, when I was crouched down looking at something with my basket beside me and she shows up again asking if that's my basket and if I needed help. Replied that I did not and walked away to continue looking, looking around the checkout area she then stands directly behind me and watched my sister and I. Horrible service, pretentious employees. I was in the store for 20 minutes. Eight employees crossed my path, looked me up and down and walked away. Not one person said hello or asked if I needed help. None of them were helping other customers. I came in to purchase products from Laura Mercier, Fenty, and YSL. I'm walking over to Nordstrom where they actually have customer service standards. I'll buy the Fenty products from a different vendor online. It's graduation season. So that means a lot of my nieces/nephews + friends' kids are gonna want a celebratory gift. Especially this year (with all the Covid chaos), I feel like these kids deserve something special. So when I asked my buddy what to get his daughter, he immediately said "a Sephora gift card." And you know what - he was totally right? Why waste so much time trying to guess what the kid wants. I don't know how to choose clothes or music or anything cool for a teenager. So here's the truth: the thing that most teenage girls in Marin want is either cash or a Sephora gift card. So I went with the gift card and emailed it to the graduate. Long story short - she loved it! I'm a hero. Her parents think I'm the best friend in the world. And best of all, I didn't even have to go shopping. I popped into Sephora over the weekend to return some items I had just purchased at a different location. I had the receipt in-hand and everything in its original packaging. Backstory: I've been struggling to find products to suit my "more mature" skin these days and so this was an exercise in trying to find my new lineup. Unfortunately, the foundation powder I was recommended wasn't a good match for my skin color/texture (Bobbi Brown), the mascara flaked (KVD Go Big or Go Home), and the Biossance serum and sunscreen didn't do much for me--I prefer Goop. Anyhoo, products aside, what really stood out was the attitude I received from the woman administering my return. There was not an ounce of warmth in her greeting, she grabbed the items from me and asked if I'd used all the products (in an accusatory manner) to which I answered yes. There was an eye roll in there. Note that I had also brought along some items I had purchased about six months ago, which I hadn't had luck with/hadn't used (two were unused and one was a Fenty contouring stick that was totally wrong for my skin). I was told by a team member at the Laurel Heights location to bring it back! So I did and this woman in Corte Madera laughed out loud and told me that they don't accept returns A YEAR LATER. I said it hadn't been a year and that I was told I could bring them back. She said "not here you can't. Sephora has a strict 30-day return policy." (Note: there are mattresses you can sleep on for a year and return so this rigidity during a pandemic no less was surprising to me). Frankly, I was most surprised by her attitude and general cold demeanor and honestly couldn't leave the store without mentioning it to her (gently). She told me that she didn't like my attitude either! What??? I was returning product that was well within the return window and bringing back product that was outside of the return window but which a member of their team said I could do! I had jokingly mentioned that Sephora is great when it comes to upselling and she hung onto that and defensively told me that that is NOT what they do at Sephora. I personally beg to differ as I often walk in with one product in mind and leave with a bevy of goodies - but okay. Net net, I work in marketing and if I ever treated a customer the way that this woman treated me, I wouldn't have a job. When the manager popped over, she seemed equally surprised by the attitude and actually had to tell the woman who'd been "helping me" to "please stop" because she continued the digs even when her manager was standing beside her! I won't mention the woman's name because it's possible she was having a bad day. But suffice it to say, I will not be shopping at this location again. read more

Not only did he explain each products thoroughly but gave us sample of each things! He answered more of my questions and he has tried so many of the products I had in question. Honestly, one of the best employees at Sephora. He didn't pressure me to buy anything - just straight up down to earth. Made me feel like I was talking to a friend for skincare advice and not a sale assistance pushing me to buy something. It was more like he was concerned for my skin and wanted me to get samples to try things before I commit to buy. Give him a pay raise or something HE IS AMAZING! read more

I would like to give a shout out to a very helpful, sweet and adorable member of the Sephora team! Hailey helped me when I walked in and caught me eyeballing the Tom Ford display. Since we are not allowed to touch anything in the store Hailey was kind enough to help me find the perfect shade of pinks in 2 different formulas offered. Not only was she super help and kind but she just had the most amazing personality and energy! I really hope Hailey is recognized for her over the top customer service!!!! Once I got to my car I tried on both items from Tom Ford. Let's just say- where have I been not using this brand my whole life! I will now be shopping at this location over the one by my house. My wife and I shopped here for the first time this week and it was great experience. We were scent shopping and their selection was truly impressive with even better options than Nordstroms in our opinion. It's a little tight in their store (aisle-wise) as they carry what seems like just about everything you could ever need cosmetically. The person that came over to offer assistance was very friendly, not pushy and was more than happy to make us up some scent samples to take home and try. It was a pleasant experience. This Sephora was probably my least favorite Sephora experience of all time. I'm a Sephora addict, I was secured as Rouge through 2018 at the beginning of 2017. I love me some beauty products and the amazing selection Sephora carries. The 3 stars are solely for the fact that this location is amazing and it's a Sephora, so you can't really go wrong. But the lack of stars is for the employees at this location. I've been to Union St, Embarcadero Center, Novato, Powell St, Chicago Sephora's, etc, I've been to a lot. Every one I go to, I get impeccable customer service. Whenever staff asked if I needed help at those locations, they've always given me quality advice. They always thank me for being Rouge at the register (which honestly makes me feel weird, but appreciated) and they ask if I'd like to use my points for anything. Every. Time. I went to the Corte Madera store and was looking for a new Kate Somerville moisturizer and was deciding between two. An employee approached me and asked if I had any questions. I said sure, what's the difference and which is better? She pointed me to an 'incredible machine'! which basically pulled up a large scale version of the app. Not helpful considering I'd already read the summaries on both and was hoping an employee would have more insight. Then when I checked out, the girl at the register 1. was annoyed she wasn't going on break and vocalized that before I approached 2. didn't mention me being Rouge, nor did she ask if I wanted to use my points on anything. She clearly did not care about me or my purchase and wanted to shuffle me through as quickly as possible. I work in customer service, I'm not some bitchy person who expects the world, but I have come to expect the same experience from every Sephora, its why I spend money there (A LOT of money). Though the Corte Madera location is closest to my home it will not be my go to. :( I know Marin County women specifically can be a difficult crowd and maybe the employees were tired? but I wasn't given the quality experience I know Sephora always provides and that was disappointing. read more

Amazing selection of beauty products from face to skin to hair. People are super friendly and helpful. I asked few questions about couple of products and they were answered with guarantee. My sister has been looking for a moisturizer for her face and beauty employee Kate was very wonderful at helping my sister chose the right product for her face and skin. She was very happy and pleased with the outcome. Leaving Sephora she felt super confident in her skin and natural beauty. It's also super exciting that this Sephora carries Fenty Beauty products. I purchased Ilia Mascara and Eyeliner because I wanted to start changing to clean beauty. I wanted to like it, but I noticed that I started getting itchy eyes at the end of the day and slightly puffy skin. I stopped using it for a couple weeks and my condition improved. I started back up and my eyes got really itchy again. One evening the itching was so unbearable so I rubbed them a bit and woke up the next morning with severely swollen eyes. I had to be seen by a Dr and get a steroid injection along with other meds. I decided to ask for store credit in Sephora and they wouldn't help me. Said it was over 60 days so I was out of luck. It was 72 days and sorry if I didn't start using it right after purchasing. Then they gave me a corporate number that doesn't even oversee anything purchased in store. What a waste of time. C'mon- I'm calling B.S. If a mascara and couple of eyeliners are worth losing a loyal customer, then so be it. I'll take my business elsewhere. Ridiculous. read more

I had been trying to figure out how to link my Beauty Insider account to the Sephora app, but could not for the life of me remember what email I had initially set it up with. Nicole was not only able to tell me the email address I never ended up using and changed it to my current email address. I visited the store in Corte Madera Town Center a few days ago because I'm getting married in September and wanted to buy make up so I could do it myself on my wedding day. I figured it'd be better to invest in products with some guidance from one of their "artists" rather than hire someone to do my make up for the day. I shared these details with someone at the store as soon as I walked in, knowing I might need to make an appointment and return at a later time, which would've been fine. But the woman who greeted me immediately said she had someone available to help me. Well, it was an interesting experience, to say the least. She was equipped with her make up tool belt and looked very "professional" so I figured I was in good hands. I explained what I wanted and figured it was clear I was willing to buy whatever products she thought I'd need for my wedding day. But instead, she plopped some bronzer on the outline of my face and on my nose and then sprayed me with a finishing spray. No foundation, blush, eye make up, etc. she said the bronzer was important for photos. Then she handed me the two products she used and walked away. The friend I was with convinced me to go to Nordstrom instead. Nonetheless, the lady at the Nordstrom Laura Mercier counter was so amazing in contrast! But she gently asked about my skin, wondering if I had some type of skin condition she needed to work around! My face looked like I had an issue with my pigmentation because the bronzer was so dark and bold on my face. She laughed when she realized my "skin condition" could be corrected with make up remover :) I just can't believe the woman at Sephora didn't take advantage of a potentially big sale. Awful. Went in with hopes to find a new foundation and some other items. One employee made eye contact with me but then walked away. I browsed for a bit but when I came to realize I really needed help there was none. Other women walked in and were greeted immediately and asked if they needed help. I was in there for at least 30 minutes with no help. I walked around to find someone and they all seemed too busy (it was not a busy time). Part of me wants to go get dolled up and come back in and pull a Pretty Women (Big mistake, huge), but I don't want to give them anymore of my time. read more

Meanwhile, she spoke loudly to the rest of her colleagues about trying to get a 16 year old to open a credit card with them. She was not friendly until it was time to ring me up and ask me to open a credit card with them. She was quick to call me Miss & use a completely different tone of voice.
