This Sephora is inside the Culver City Mall, just a 5-minute drive from my office. I often visit this location after work to do some shopping therapy. Shopping at Sephora is my therapy! My favorite brands are Fenty Beauty (their lip products), Rhode (stick blushes), Mary Philips, Haus Labs (their powder blushes are insane), and makeup by Mario (specifically their lip liners). This Sephora doesn't have a Mac stand, but there is a Mac store in the mall, RIGHT IN FRONT of this Sephora. Great customer service! I've been coming to this Sephora a lot since this is the closest location. And I usually have no problems, but my last visit left a bad taste in my mouth. The staff were very friendly and helpful, up until I went to go checkout. The person who checked me out, forgot her name but had short light brown hair, was just really rude. Didn't even say hello, and didn't even look up to acknowledge me. I worked retail before, so I get some days are bad days.. and I wouldn't have left a bad review for that. I stopped by to purchase makeup remover and had the intention to get a face foundation matchup . Though I was greeted at the entrance I was never approached to ask if I needed help . I didn't notice as much staff as other locations. I decided to not buy my foundation today and proceed to get in line . Today we visited Sephora and spent over $200. At checkout, I politely asked if there were any little gifts available, meaning samples. The cashier just smirked and said "no," which honestly felt pretty rude and uncomfortable. What makes it more disappointing is that this isn't the first time. I fully understand that the holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year, and I came in with patience and a positive, Christmas-spirit mindset. Unfortunately, my experience at this Sephora was extremely disappointing. I was met with a rude attitude and little to no assistance when asking questions about products and my rewards points. Instead of being helpful or even neutral, the interaction felt dismissive and rushed, which is frustrating--especially in a store where customer service and product knowledge are supposed to be a priority. I don't expect red-carpet treatment, but basic courtesy and willingness to help should be a given, regardless of how busy it is. If anything, this is when good service matters most. This location has a lot of room for improvement when it comes to customer experience, staff training, and approachability. A west coast Sephora with none of the foolishness I like I recently encountered back home at the one on Market Street. Fully stocked! All perfume display samples were out and ready for testing. The aisles were clean and by that I mean the testing areas were free of debris and used applicators. They were actually wiped down and fresh. Trash was in the trash. It's Sephora so you can get all the products you can get at any location. However, this location is in a mall and there are a lot of younger shoppers running around. Also, the employees don't seem as knowledgeable. I asked and was told that each employee rotates sections, so they don't seem to be experts in one area. The woman who helped me was nice, but I asked her about perfume discovery sets. She said they didn't really have any. I grabbed a travel set instead and then in the checkout line I saw a discovery set for most of the perfumes in the travel set I almost purchased (see photo). When I asked for samples, some employees seemed annoyed, like I was bothering them lol I prefer the other location in Culver City on Culver Blvd. The overall shopping experience is more pleasant and the employees seem to know their stuff. The worst Sephora I have ever visited. Wasn't going to write a review but it's days later and I still can't believe what happened. It's bothering me so here I go.. I have been purchasing INKEY retinol serum for years now and I absolutely love it, it works wonders for ME. However,A dark complected employee, petite(she mentioned she was 52) of African-American descent, approached me, overheard a conversation I was having with a fellow visitor about the serum. She asked me why I would recommend that brand if it doesn't work well as some others. Her approach was all wrong. I went on and explaining to her that I've been using it for years and it works well for me personally. she was rude, wasn't having it and suggested that I buy a $60 serum instead. She seemed to get agitated every time I said I wanted to stick to what I was used to .She insulted me saying I look my age and I should try to use something better... I was so upset that she ruined my shopping experience, I put my serum back on the shelf and walked away. To have someone working in a store where women go to buy products to enhance their beauty only to be let down by an employee telling you otherwise all because they wanna make a quick sale. How do I know she's 52? She mentioned it when she told me to buy the $60 serum. It's what she uses that's why her skin looks so great. I visited the Fox Hill Mall - Westfield Culver City store this past week. Having used MAC Cosmetics for years (I still love MAC), I now wanted to make a change, specifically to Fenty Savage. This was my FIRST visit to Sephora. I didn't necessarily walk into the store challenging the clerk, but In my mind, I quietly wanted to be wow'd and to be taught about the latest make-up trends - Melyssa, the sales associate did both!. Be careful if you're redeeming a gift card that the cashier doesn't deduct your Beauty Insider points. I redeemed a $10.00 gift card I earned from the Fetch app. I showed the cashier the barcode on my phone. I didn't realize I had to specify to her that the gift card is from an app and not from Beauty Insider points. The cashier made the assumption that I was using my Beauty Insider points. She never asked me if the bar code was from that or a gift card from an app. It wasn't until I got home and looked at my receipt that I realized that the cashier deducted 500 points! I called customer service and the person I spoke to was very nice and returned my points. I was also sent an email apologizing for the cashier's failure of assuming I was using my points. The CSR's on the phone are very nice. If you redeem a gift card from an app at this location be sure to tell the cashier that the gift card is not from Beauty Insider points. Very unpleasant experience! I bought some lip gift sets here for my daughters in law on 11-23 on a whim , then I popped into the Marina Del Rey and saw some sets that I preferred, so I purchased those ones and today I went to this location to return the first sets, unfortunately I left my original receipt at home but the gift receipts were in the bag. The cashier made me feel extremely uncomfortable.. these boxes I returned were still sealed, I never opened any of the 3, and they still had the seal on all the packages.. she shook the boxes then proceeded to open the seal , I then said go ahead you can open all of them.. she just opened the one and inspected it, then she said " I can only give you a store credit because you are using gift receipt" I said " no! I will find my Receipt and come back!" She then asked "well do you have the card you paid with?" I pulled out a random credit-debit card and she put the refund due on it. Then I come home and look in some other Sephora bags I have here and find the original receipt .. ha ha it wasn't even the same credit card! I will shop at the Marina location, so much nicer. Wow some of y'all have never worked in retail and it shows. Badly. I have been greeted every time, unless it's all hands on deck. I don't require people to smile or apologize for things out of their control (I.e. misorganized product is probably the result of another customer mixing it up, breaking the display or god forbid they actually attempt to watch and parent their children. Do you know how many child height lipsticks I've seen smashed and chews up pre-covid?) Returns are easy but too much returning can trigger a third party system denial. Nothing can be done in store so don't blame the employees. Same for discounts, all stores have metrics about how much "courtesy" discounting they can do before corporate starts getting upset. They can't honor any random coupon you want, otherwise go to Ulta. This is a kind Sephora that will make you feel at home with makeup.
