This is no cosmetics retailer. It's a club masquerading as a retailer. The noise level here is high, the energy higher, and the sales staff and customers are all abuzz. I've try to avoid Sephora because of this reason. This is no place to browse unless you need your fix of a club scene without the cover. But I have a particular item in mind you can't beat Sephora sometimes for different brands all under one roof, without the aggressive pushiness or snobbery that you find at department store. The sales staff here is friendly and not overbearing. Sephora was also rated as having a top quality eyelash curler since Shu Uemera pulled put of the US market. And being in a pretty red, I had to try it. Just don't come in if you have a headache unless you have noise cancelling headphones. read more

Great collection. Big and spacious store. excellent customer service always. The girls are patient and always ready to help. Every time I've gone in, i have received great recommendation on products and tips. They even have a huge Make up forever section where they do make-up applications and sessions. This store is in Soho and you would think they would always be busy but it's actually not that crowded and very manageable. I don't wear makeup, so when I actually need to grab any cosmetic, this location always does a great job. I only purchase lipsticks and eyeliners. Despite being in the heart of the NYC shopping district, and despite the fact that this location is almost always packed, the staff is helpful when you can actually flag one down who isn't already assisting someone else (but when u actually get a stylist to fully assist you, they are fully helpful) They don't harrass me when I'm testing out new lip-color shades and eye-liners, but casually check in on u periodically, which is a plus. One time, I wanted a lip color shade that was sold out in-store but available online, and a stylist allowed me to order the shade and waive the shipping! So cool! Very helpful!! read more

Shopping at Sephora can often be overwhelming, and this location is the epitome of wanting to pull your hair out. That's mainly due to the large crowds at any given time. The lines tend to be very long, so I appreciate that there's always someone near the registers who announces that they're accepting credit card payments for purchases. Customer service is pretty good, though I don't remember if anyone has come up to me to ask if I needed assistance. Since I love the SoHo area, I'll always stop by when I'm in the area, even if it's just to look around. read more

Holy over-sensory load. Lower your music, please. Coming into this store from too crowded/loud Broadway should be more relaxing. But it's not. Now I am sounding really, really old. I have to start of by saying, I'm a HUGE beauty/ skincare junky, and Sephora Rouge VIB ( meaning I spend more then a grand a year at Sephora ) Not to brag, but just to show that Ive had my fair share of experiences at Sephora. Now for the review, This place is great! Spacious, a great range of companies, and a store within a store - Makeup For Ever, with their own skilled MUAs and sales people. The Makeup For Ever section sells items that are usually exclusive to the free standing Makeup for Ever stores, and you are not bound to purchase items in the that area, so you can get a product and carry it all around the store. The store gets a bit crowded, but I am never overwhelmed or uncomfortable by the volume of people. There are tons of makeup stations in the store, a whole long wall full! Which is more then I've seen in any other location! The sales people are soo sweet! The lady helping me led me around the store while I was looking for a makeup brush, consulted a sales person in the Make up For Ever section, and all three of us chatted about the quality of the brushes! And when one wasn't in stock THEY offered to call a free standing Make Up For Ever store! Love this location! THAT said, the reason why I don't give 5 stars, is nothing to do with the location in particular, its more the fact that most of the people working in sephora in general are not very versed on makeup. I am not the average customer since I have a collection of makeup and brushes, so maybe a regular girl who has just a "makeup bag full" of makeup at home will not notice. I got my make up done with Deasia R. before a photo shoot and I did not know what to expect. She spent more than enough time to perfect everything I asked and more. My photographer was blown away by the contouring and she made my eyebrows look amazing. Also, her demeanor was very relaxing and she defiantly knew what she was doing with confidence. Went into this place to get the girlfriend some eyeliner and I think primer. Then I was tempted to buy some cologne, when we approached the cologne section a very nice employee showed us how to use the strips to sample the cologne! However we were new and didn't know that you were supposed to wait to reset your sense of smell before trying a new cologne.. Coffee beans is the key! I went there this past Saturday with one of my friends, who had scheduled a beauty consult with a team member there. The deal with a beauty consult is that you get a free 45 minutes makeup tutorial, but you have to purchase $50 worth of product. We were with the woman for probably close to 2 hours, and my friend ended up purchasing every single product the woman put on her (close to $400). My point is that they go above and beyond to help you, and the service is great, which definitely entices people to spend more. Even though I wasn't the one getting a consult, they pulled up a chair for me so that I could sit near my friend and watch. Great customer service. read more

I consider myself a makeup junkie, and have been to many locations of Sephora in many places, including Vegas, Baltimore, DC and New York. My husband and I were in the city for dinner on Saturday 8/20 and I dragged him over to Soho to check out MAC and Sephora. You can read my review of the MAC store that I just posted. I can't believe they make enough profit to pay the rent with the way they ignore people. Anyway, I walked into bright, shiny and bustling Sephora and was greeted loudly and fabulously by the gentleman up front. He offered me a Jolly Rancher. I told him how rude the MAC people were. He said "Honey, come shop in here with us!" And so I did. Loved the selection, loved the vibe, loved that I was asked if I needed help but not too often to be annoying. And I dropped $250 that night in this store. Keep it up, you'll run that snobby reeks-with-attitude MAC Store out of the neighborhood and the makeup artists there can go brood together at their favorite coffee shop or playhouse. read more

This is a terrible Sephora. There are plenty of staff but most of them seem to have little to no product knowledge! I came in looking for a specific hair spray which none of the sales associates had ever heard of. None of them knew whether or not they carried the brand at all. My friend had questions about an eyeshadow pallet so we asked a sales associate for information. She knew nothing so she then directed us to another sales associate who knew even less. Most of the shelves were almost out of stock and very disorganized. We couldn't find anything we were looking for. Sanitation stations were a mess. Dirty tissues, splattered makeup, empty tissue and wipe dispensers thrown all over the place and no one even attempting to clean anything up. Save your time, order online. read more

Good Sephora and decent location. Walking distance to yellow trains and a couple different bus stops. A bit further down but there's the orange and brown trains and the 6 train. I came here looking for a foundation. First, it took me over 15 minutes to stop an employee here. After I stop her, she told me I would be assisted by someone else. Then an associate named Jade came. She was fairly pleasant but truly didn't seem to want to help me. She asked me questions and seemed annoyed by my lack of knowledge for a response. If I knew how to match myself, I wouldn't be asking for her help clearly. She suggested two foundations for me then literally left. I had several other questions, but I didn't even bother. Went to the Sephora at the soho location on Thursday. I wanted to try a sample of the Fenty foundation before purchasing I tried to get someone to help me, there was one of the workers standing by one of the beauty stations until she walked away then I started following her saying "excuse me...excuse me" she never turned around while customers around heard me trying get her attention. So, she then stop and put her head down when I got close to her and she still ignored me and look at me until I found this other lady that look like she could possibly be a manager. So,I told the manager what I was looking for until she even told me to go back to fenty section, stating that there's a girl with a fenty top on. I walked around looking for the girl and never found her until I got frustrated and left. First time going to this location and will not be going there again. read more

I had a fabulous makeover here with Jenny H.! She was very friendly throughout the whole process. My skin was cleaned and moisturized before the makeup, which was very considerate of them since I was sweaty from walking outside. She asked me what my plans were for the night, and suggested a natural smoky eye makeup. During the entire process, she was very gentle applying the makeup on me. She had me checked in the mirror frequently to make sure I was happy with the look. She was also fun to chat with, which really relaxed me since it's not everyday when you meet a complete stranger so up close to your face for a long time. The result was BEAUTIFUL! The eyeshadows were blended so well that the makeup looks clean despite of being a smoky eye makeup. The foundation on my face matched my skin perfectly, and it covered all the pigmentations and scars nicely without being heavy. The lipstick color she picked for me was a perfect match for the smoky eye makeup. It was easily the best makeup job I've ever received from someone else beside myself. The complete makeover usually costs $50, but you can spend it on their makeup purchase instead. Mine was a free offer from my recently renewed VIB status. This is definitely worth it, so don't delete your free offer email if you have gotten one. read more

I love Sephora but the employees at this location definitely need to take training in professionalism and customer service. I am in the customer service industry and it is important that you treat each and every client like VIP. I walked in no greeter, ok fine. Then I walked around looking and no one came to ask if I needed assistance, the place is crowded but there are a lot of employees there as well so that's no excuse. I picked up some items and headed to back to the perfume area. I saw a male rep there but he was assisting someone already, I waited a few mins. Then another customer came up to him and asked for assistance at which he responded that she go and asked a female rep standing by the men's section. Hmmmm, so I walked over there and she was assisting a guy, I waited then she looked at me and I swear says, "Yes?", To which I respond, I need some assistance, and want to ask some questions, she then responds, with a slight attitude, "well what is your question", I respond, "I want to get a sample of a perfume and ask a question about it", she then says, lol, "ok well go get it" lol (I swear!!!)at this point a small group of customers had also formed a line by her, I respond, "ok well it's high on the shelf and as you can see, I am short!!", she then says, "well I can't move from here, so you can go ask that guy over there", I then with complete frustration say, "well he's busy with another client and sent me over to you, but I didn't know your feet were planted in cement, but cool no problem forget it" and I walked away leaving all my items. I cannot believe that they have reps that treat customers this way. It is absolutely disrespectful and unprofessional. I don't expect that I will be back at that location. read more

Dangerously dirty! Went into this location to try on a new under eye concealer for an event that was a few days away. Knew better than to apply it myself, so asked one of their employees to apply it. Apparently, she didn't wash her brushes properly, because I got periorbital cellulitis on the eye she tried the product on. I had to go on heavy duty antibiotics, that ended up messing up my immune system, which still hasn't recovered. Worse part? It was the second week of my new job, and I was helping run a major event handling VIP celebrities and had to do so with my eye looking toxic (Google photos of the condition - it's not pretty). When I went in there a day later, the manager acted like she didn't care at all and offered no apology; when I suggested she throw out the tester, she responded that it probably had already been all used up anyway and didn't even leave the conversation she was having to focus on what I was telling her. Hilariously the name of the product was "Bye Bye Undereye" which at least was truth in advertising! Would have let the whole thing slide, since it happened a few months back, but went in there for XMAS shopping finally after having avoided this location and saw an employee using a brush on one customer and then swapping to another right after without cleaning properly. I know the holidays are crazy busy, but NOPE. Eye infections are serious and can lead to permanent damage. Get a manager who cares about training your employees right in terms of safety and cleaning! read more

This review is for a makeup consultation I had with Juan. Juan is the man! I got a complimentary consultation after buying way too much stuff with Sephora (it's so fun though, right?) and wanted to learn a little more about makeup application. I brought in a bunch of pics of an actress with similar coloring to me whose look I wanted to learn and steal. Juan did an amazing job of matching the colors and the style! He also would show me what he was doing and do one side of my face, and let me do the other side - really a great way to learn makeup application. Just to note, while I love to play around with makeup, I don't love the heavy heavy makeup look or sticky, unnatural-feeling foundation. Juan totally listened and customized the products to my taste. He knows his stuff! I came away with a whole bunch of purchases (of course!), but I actually CAME BACK the next day and found him and bought almost all of the rest of the things he used and recommended - and haven't returned a single thing. Sephora is always crowded. Good thing all I needed was new powder. I weaved my way between the people, had someone point out the powder to me, and immediately got in line. Also, I had an email coupon. So that made my single purchase even cheaper. The people who work here are always just pleasant enough but clearly must be as overwhelmed by the store as I am. Sephora is great if you need absolutely anything makeup related because of how much variety they have. I just wish it wasn't always sooo crowded! read more

However, I've always felt like a bother to the staff and haven't had an overwhelming impression that each store hires experts in beauty/cosmetics. But this one - almost all the staff were just chit chatting with each other. I loveee this Sephora location. The workers are kind, laid back, and whenever I need a sample of a product, they don't roll their eyes or brush me off like some Sephora's do. Had a PBA yesterday which is a 90-minute one-on-one learning session with one of the workers. I was a bit scared coming in because I didn't know what to expect, but Ari really helped me. He knew his stuff and helped educate me on skincare and some makeup basics. The fact he knew what I was going through with my skin helped because I felt like I was in the right hands, and I was. His attitude was amaaaazziinngg and I had an amazing time learning. My makeup slayed and my experience was fabulous. I left feeling so confident. I love the SoHo location. They always have stuff going on and its a very fun shopping experience. The only problem I really have with Sephora is that they dont have enough freebies with purchase like you get in the department stores. The VIP points make up for it a little, but They dont often have anything I want for my points. On the other hand, you can browse here all day long without being cornered by a beauty consultant who will never leave you alone at a department store. I have my makeup done here for special occasions, just buy a few things and its free. One of the assistants told me that each Sephora has a few people who come everyday and do their makeup for the day. She said they dont mind as long as they dont make a mess. I can't even imagine the nerve it would take to do that, but it just shows how cool Sephora is about trying things out. Please, for the love of God, use the disposable wipes and wands. Don't spread your cold or worse around the city by contaminating the makeup. I dont think that's too much to ask, right? read more
