I like the fact that all their products are readily touchable/testable and the workers are always ready to give a sample if you need one. So this is a review exclusively on the customer service at this store. Every single employee I interacted with in the Soho store was incredibly helpful and sweet. I was helped mostly by Teresa who was very knowledgeable about the Laura Mercier products. She was so nice and took her time in helping me (even though the store was packed and I could barely move without knocking someone or something over) and I never felt rushed and I never felt coerced into buying anything. She helped me match my color and sent me home with a few samples because I don't like buying foundation before seeing it in the sunlight. I tried out the products and everything she recommended was spot on. I will be back to pick up the products she recommend. The cashier who helped me (I can't believe I forgot her name) was just as sweet and I left with a smile on my face. I think I found my new regular store! read more

The only thing I like about this Sephora is the layout & that they tend to usually always have things in stock. The customer service here sucks! The rudest employees ever. I thought it was just me but after a few visits it's confirmed. My last visit was probably the worst. One issue I had was that I needed to ask about a price adjustment since the advertised price on the stand was $20 LESS then what i paid for. When I asked an associate to please direct me to where I would get this corrected she looked at me blankly as if I was bothering her!! I even said please. I am super nice so I thought ok maybe she is having a bad day. To add insult to injury NOT only was I overcharged for that item BUT I was also charged incorrectly for another item. I didn't realize until I went over my receipt again a few days later trying to figure out how my calculations were so off. Oh and upon leaving the store that same bothered associate GRILLED me up and down instead of saying goodbye . I just don't understand. It's a big Sephora. I'll stop at that this place is insane. I love it because they have a massive selection of everything and everyone is very nice and very helpful. On to the bad, this place gets PACKED. I mean you can't even look at anything because people are bumping into you and asking you to move. I always shop Sephora for scents. I went in recently look for something new and recruited the help of Sam. Damn what a knowledgeable sales associate. He had me try 4 different scents on my skin to note the change with body chemistry. I of course forgot what scent was what in 10 minutes. Yet after helping my gf, i finally began to warm up to which scent i liked and he knew immediately what it was just by smelling it. This is my go-to store for makeup and essentially all other toiletries, not just because of it's convenience, but because Makeup Forever is my everyday makeup brand. The staff at this Sephora are far more helpful than I have come across in other Manhattan locations- particularly those working in the Makeup Forever area. The line always moves quickly and I always find what I am looking for. The only downside is how crazy this place can get on the weekends, so I try to come early to avoid the congestion. read more

I've got a Sephora favorites perfume sampler and a certificate for a full size (1 fl oz) of one of them. I went to so many stores to redeem it, but none of them had the size. Nobody even tried to help me. When I went to 555 Broadway Sephora, Courtney was very kind to help. I received amazing service from Skye (i'm pretty sure that was her name) when I had a complicated return and exchange. I came to the SoHo location because I was treated poorly at the Flat Iron Sephora, where they essentially accused me of stealing the item I was trying to return because I did not have a receipt. Upon going to the SoHo location, Skye was able to confirm that I did in fact purchase the item I was returning, and happily exchanged it for me. I work dangerously close to this Sephora. It's my favorite in the city--the staff is always super helpful, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. I'm here at least every other week! (Also, the MUFE studio inside is. So. Amaze.) But today prompted me to finally write a review because of the outstanding customer service I received. Yesterday, after making a purchase at this Sephora, I went home and discovered that one of the items I paid for was missing from the bag. I called the store this morning to see if it was possibly left on the counter. The employee who answered said that they didn't see it there, but that I could come by the store anyway and they'd honor my purchase. I went in during my lunch break and they were super kind and gave me no hassle at all in getting a replacement, apologizing for the error. Wow! So nice! of course i like Sephora. what women doesn't? it's a fun place if you're a product whore. i love the fact that i can go in and pretend like i'm interested in a bunch of expensive stuff and walk out with tons of million dollar samples. it makes me feel like i've accomplished something. So why only three stars? CUSTOMER. SERVICE. I'm not talking like Homey Depot customer service where you go in and can't find anyone working there to assist you. i'm talking about staff that actually ignores you. There are about 35 black clad kids standing around with Sephora name tags on. um, i think they work there. (?). there is one at the end of each aisle chatting and one gossiping with another. yet if you have a question, somehow, they don't acknowledge you. even when you walk up and stand beside them waiting for them to acknowledge you, they won't acknowledge you. actually, I think they may acknowledge you, they just don't want to help you. In a place with so many different aisles of millions of different things and with bright lights that can sometimes overwhelm you, the help is too busy working on their other skills for the make-up/fashion industry; their attitude, snottiness and discontent. also maybe making fun of the fact that i don't wear the right shade of concealer. which i WOULD, if someone would HELP ME! read more

As I was shopping in Soho I decided that not only did I need new clothes, but also a new look. Hmm.. what could be better than red lips? Nothing! The only beauty experts (the friendly, trustworthy, and available type) that I work with are found at Sephora. I have never been to this location before but was very, veryyyy happy with the outcome. I have never worn lipstick before, let alone a deep, sultry red. Where the hell do I start?! Well, thank God for the Sephora staff. Although it was busy I had two women working on me until I was totally ecstatic about my new look. Not only did they show me a variety of products (they don't get commission so they don't really care about the price point, and you don't have to be shy about what you can and cannot afford) but they also taught me how to apply. Not only did I get compliments from other shoppers in the store but from all of my friends who then went to Sephora to buy the products (Nars lip pencil and DuWop venom lip potion)!! I came in for the 45-minute makeover because it was my 21st birthday and some friends and I were going out to eat. I've been to Sephora before to get makeup done on my birthday and I was completely satisfied with my makeup and the service so I was 100% sure that I'd come again. Unfortunately, time-wise, my day wasn't going as planned so I ended up being pretty late to my appointment. I was really flustered and stressed when I first walked in because I thought maybe they wouldn't take me. I found an associate and let her know I was here for an appointment, she asked me my name and told me that someone would be with me shortly. Another woman came over and asked for my info. I apologized for being so late and she assured me that it was no problem, but that for future reference, there's a 15-minute grace period; good to know. She sat me by the Beauty Studio and let me know that Tamara would be doing my makeup for me as soon as she finished with the client that she was with. Tamara turned to me immediately and apologized saying that she took the next client since I hadn't arrived yet but that she'd be with me very shortly which I completely understood. I was in a bit of a hurry so I was worried that I'd have to wait a long time but Tamara was done with her client within two minutes and I was in her seat in no time. Tamara was SUPER sweet and SUPER friendly from the beginning and her attitude calmed me down so quickly. She complimented my outfit and my hair and told me how beautiful my smile was..I was almost blushing! She immediately asked me what I was looking for and I told her I wanted to emphasize eyebrows and lips. Since my outfit was all black I was thinking of a deep red lip (I'm so basic :( lol) but I told her how my boyfriend (who was with me) joked about me getting blue lipstick because my nails were also blue. She said how that could actually work very nicely; a berry-ish blue lip ombre with red in the center. I was IMMEDIATELY in love with the idea. Then she said how she was thinking of doing a smoky eye with glitter eyeliner and a contour...in my head I was screaming! That sounded beautiful and I was too excited. I also loved how she asked me how much time I had and was very conscious of making the appointment enjoyable but speedy. She said to my boyfriend "okay I'm gonna give you some homework...I want you to keep an eye on the clock and tell me every time 15 minutes passes" I REALLY appreciated how even though I was so late, she knew I was in a hurry and wanted to be timely! She started off with some skin care..exfoliation and moisturization. It felt reaalllyyy nice and my skin felt great afterwards. She went right into the makeup and the whole way through she was explaining everything she was doing and making recommendations to me. She was even asking my preferences and what I was more comfortable with using. Every time she gave me the opportunity to turn to the mirror to see what she had done, I was blown away. I almost didn't even recognize myself anymore and it was EXACTLY what I wanted. I was amazed at the fact that I told her so little about what I wanted and yet she gave the EXACT look I had in my head but 10x better. When she was finally finished (in the time that I asked her to be) I literally could not have been ANY happier. I was IN LOVE with what she had done. I couldn't stop smiling and my boyfriend couldn't stop telling me how beautiful I was. I ended up buying 3 of the products she recommended to me and I can't wait to use them. I told Tamara, "I always tell myself, the most beautiful I've ever felt was the day of my high school prom 3 years ago but that's not true anymore, this is the prettiest I've ever felt." and I still mean it! I live in Queens but I would honestly travel all the way back to SoHo just to come here to get my makeup done (by Tamara if she's there!) I left this location feeling so happy and so pretty. I love Sephora just as much as the next person. It is very interesting to see what clients think of the service at the store. Unfortunately, every store is a bit different, and every staff is as well. Alot of times, the things that you dont like arent because of the staff, but because of the company instructing them to do things that way. Many makeup artists truly love what they do,and would loveee to be more hands on, I know this personally, unfortunately, the company enforces us to limit our hands on time with one client, so we can better serve everyone not just one client for an extended amount of time. The emphasis has stopped as far as "makeovers" go and has turned into a very quick but hopefully worthwhile consultation. It can get frustrating for us, but we cant help it. Also, you cant really move around the store freely to help the client, you must give them away to someone in that particular area of the store if they want to venture out to lets say the skincare section. And as far as us not being very helpful when asked what other store u can find a certain shadow we dont carry, we are ENFORCED not to give our business to another store/company, we are instructed to suggest that you find it on our website. Dont take it personally guys. The main reason for all of this is two words: SECRET SHOP. hope I made a few things clear at least.
