I been to so many Sephora stores this one is my favorite. It's not because of product but because of the amazing employees. They were all so friendly and helpful. Other Sephora stores I go to often have so so customer service from someone following me all over the store and watching me to me asking an employee a question and they seem mad that I'm bothering them. This one is totally different, from the employee greeting everyone at the door to the employees on the floor and the employee that rang me up. When I walked in, I had no clue what I was looking for. Just wanted to play with some make up and see what looks/feels good enough to buy. A sales girl came up and noticed that I liked the shiny eyeliners by Sephora. She brought me few to try. I liked the fact that she was helpful yet not pushy. I ended up buying two of the Sephora eyeliners and a lip gloss by Benefit. Looking forward to coming back. The line went by so fast that I didn't get to look at the sample size items they carry at the check out section. read more

This is the closest Sephora to where I live and the gals here are AWESOME! I came in to look for some goodies and Adriana totally hooked me up by teaching me how to use the Temptu System. I'm now a total and complete convert. She also was a great resource on makeup tips such as how to apply bronzer so that I didn't look weird. Selection here is pretty good; the store size is large. Returns are a breeze when the color/shade doesn't work out. Sign up for their rewards program since they will email for lots of good gift with purchase goodies! read more

I'd have to say in most Sephoras I don't tend to get too lost when browsing for new beauty products I want to add to my collection. That's not the case with this location! I feel like the aisles in between some of the product lines here are so teeny tiny that you can easily knock over products or displays. Yikes! The customer service here was okay but I had to flag someone down to actually help me which was kinda odd as I'm so used to Sephora employees being extremely eager to assist with the customer's needs. The lady was helping us pick one out she told us to follow her to find another perfume we were looking for so when we go to follow her I look behind and two of the cops in there were just behind us watching our every move. I went to Sephora today for the Ojon trade in event. I brought in an empty NuSkin shampoo bottle for recycle and I received a voucher for an Ojon full size shampoo and conditioner! There was no line going through the door or to redeem the Ojon bottles. No lines at the register either! Best part, Leslie helped my friend and I with the Guerlain luxury make up line. Specifically the terracotta line and the Meteorites Perles. She color matched us very enthusiastically. She's passionate about the line and I'm pretty impressed. Stuff is not cheap though. Later I checked out Make Up Forever eye shadows, lip glosses, HD Foundation and primer. Love the brand. I had a different person help me. She was happy to color match and give me a sample to try tomorrow morning! I can't wait to go back to do a make over to sample the full line of Guerlain! It was a typical Sephora... nothing particularly good or bad. I went in to get a gift card for a friend who was doing my engagement photos. The usual business went down... I paid for the gift card, the cashier put the gift card in a mirror and put it in a small bag and stuffed the bag with tissue paper and crinkled shredded paper, and then we were off! My fiance and I were in the car when I realized I didn't write the denomination on the card. I pulled the mirror out only to discover that the outside was completely smudged and scratched up on the edges! It was as if someone took it, went home, used it for a year and then returned it. I feel like in our time together I started to pick up some basic make up skills, and she made me feel so much more confident! I work nearby so I come here to replenish my makeup/hair items but I'm starting to believe it would be better for me to shop at Nordstrom beauty even though I've had poor experiences there... at least they expedite my checkout. Stanford Shopping Center is in a affluent area and they have since remodeled it to include more high end retail. This considered, this mall is not as busy as say a mall in San Jose or San Mateo - yet, despite there being 3 girls on each end, no women to help apply makeup or do samples, there is continually a line. Its unbelievable. I mean truly... that takes some talent to have an empty store and STILL have a line. I tried to mention the unbelievable dynamic in regards to Customer Service to a girl ringing but as a low level employee she of course had zero answers. If I was one of the ringing employees I would be P.O.'d, if I'm over here without a second to spare and your coworkers are spritzing themselves with tester perfumes and chatting. The management is MIA - I had my credit card number stolen in Sephora - Palo Alto, and then used at Sephora - San Mateo because they don't check ID's so honestly, I guess I should be mad at myself for patronizing a business that is against professionalism and service. read more

Sephora is a fun place to shop, but sometimes the line takes awhile and people try to start their own line - but luckily the people who work there tell the cutters there is only one line. I like shopping on Sephora.com better as you get 3 free samples and free shipping if you purchase over $50. You also can get extra goodies as they have weekly specials. The location makes this a wonderful store, here in Stanford Shopping Center, just off the main courtyard, looking out on a seating area surrounded by flowers. Not sure why this store has so many bad reviews but my experience was pretty awesome. Went to look for a specific BB cream by Dior. Couldn't find it anywhere on the shelf and in the back. the lady there helped my locate one last bottle and I was delighted! She also gave me samples for the road (always ask for samples)! Bring a bag bc otherwise they charge 10 cents for a bag! I like that they do this bc to really eliminates the need for a bag! Overall, nice staff, clean store and lots of amazing products! read more

Poor experience. I was in there looking at products for about 30 mins testing out foundations and moisturizers to potentially purchase. I was not greeted at all when I first entered and I was also never approached to see if I was finding everything okay. There was at least 4 or 5 staff members around talking around me about coverage. Obviously, I LOVE Sephora. I'm good with Sephora at JC Penney, any old Sephora, Sephora.com -- it's all good. This branch is BY FAR the worst branch I've visited. I keep trying it and it keeps failing. First of all, horrible organization. Everything is out of place, there is zero order to the store. Second, looking for someone to ask anything is a mess. No one can ever help you, and they keep ping ponging you between staffers, all incredibly clueless. Cleanliness is horrendous. I mean it. The place is junk. It's located next to designer stores, and it looks like a pawn shop in comparison with how untidy and dirty everything seems. Then we have the cashiers. I've never seen worse cashiers before. Not only do they never smile, they visibly frown. I don't know if they're being tormented or what else is happening, but the experience is unpleasant. During my recent visit, as I was paying, my cashier kept forgetting a bunch of stuff, and at some point during the purchase left the cash register to go show something to a shopper, without so much as an "excuse me for a moment". On top of it all, I wasn't even offered samples at the point of purchase, something that is customary and part of the idea of sephora, and something I've gotten at any other place (I don't know if it's only offered for VIB, but either way, I'm VIB Rouge, if that matters). Seriously, terrible experience. And depressing, really. Not coming back here again. P.S. when you ask a person at Sephora if they have tanning mitts, SOMEONE working at the store should probably know what those are. read more

**Me taking my usual long time to get ready** Dude: What if I told you I thought you were prettier without make-up? Me: Nice try, Pal-O. I know a trick when I hear it and that's not gonna make me be ready any faster. If I have to leave my apartment and see humans that I know I'll need to have ongoing interactions with, I wear make-up. A whole bunch of it. I'm not ashamed. I'll own it every day of the week. I'm not saying I look fabulous with make-up, but I'm letting you know it could be a whole lot worse and the extra time it takes me to get ready is a generous courtesy to you and everyone else so you don't have to ask why I look so tired or if I'm sick... because I'm not. That's just how I look. I came here to do an overhaul on my ages old product rotation and was excited to get my make-up done in store that day since it's complimentary if you spend over X amount of dollars. The store on a Saturday afternoon was as busy and bustling as you'd imagine it to be and I was glad to see the make-up stand/artist station was placed off to the side of the store so that my work-in-progress face wasn't on full display. I told the make-up artist the look I try to go for (which I'm never actually able to achieve on my own, but hey... C- for effort, right?) and she did her sort of best to achieve that. I knew the brands of products I was interested and which ones I've tried in the past and just wasn't a fan of (Sorry, Benefit... you are just not for me) and tried to point her in the right direction of my personal brand likes and dislikes but it seemed like there's just certain brands they maybe won't work with while applying make-up in store. Like, Urban Decay's 24/7 liquid eyeliner (my fave)... they just would not work with me and insisted trying out a different brand that, surprise surprise, didn't even stay on for the length of time it took to do my make-up. They seem to do a heavy push in the NARS and Make Up For Ever department, which was great because I do really like those brands, but she seemed to be really disinterested in certain colors and forms of products for me, even though I expressly noted that I wanted them. I've definitely had my make-up done before where it looked better but for what my make-up artist started with, she did a pretty damn good job. In the end this Sephora is fine if you don't mind it being a bit more hectic than their other locations. I don't know that I'd get my make-up done here again only because I like my preferences to be taken into account a little more, but it certainly won't keep me from coming back for more of my type of make-up in the future. read more

I love shopping at Sephora, online and in most stores. But this location always makes me question whether I should just stay home and shop online. My experience in other Sephoras is that everyone is greeted by a salesperson upon entering, and is offered assistance fairly quickly if they appear to need help. In a typical Sephora I have been greeted within 2 seconds of entering, and am offered help within 1 minute of looking dazed and confused by all the cosmetic brands. (-) I have NEVER been greeted at this Sephora, even after I've been in there for 15 minutes. And I have not been approached by anyone when I couldn't find something. In fact, the last time I was here, I had to chase down a salesperson who was spending a lot of time with one customer. I get that, so I stood back and tried to give her some time with the customer before asking for help. She clearly saw me standing there, but didn't acknowledge me and just turned her back to me. Finally I had to excuse myself with "Sorry, I just have a quick question." She looked annoyed. [1 star for floor customer service.] (-) This is going to sound ridiculous, but when standing in line I have been PASSED OVER for women who appear to be upper-class. Like I said, I know it sounds crazy. I was first in line after waiting for 5-10 minutes, and a woman ran up right in front of me complaining that she needed something. The cashiers ACTUALLY HELPED HER FIRST. [1 star for partiality to a certain demographic of customers.] (+) However the cashier that helped me on my most recent visit was kind, helpful, and very friendly. She alone saved this from being a 1-star review. [5 stars for helpful cashier.] Because of my belief in the Sephora product and brand, I'm keeping this at a 2 star review, but this location seriously needs help. I've been a loyal customer and VIB Beauty Insider for over 5 years, and this is the only place that makes me feel icky. TIP: If possible, try to go to another Sephora store. I came in with my two small children, trying to use a holiday gift card. I asked a sales associate to look for an out of stock product. As she was looking, my 4 yr old asked for lipstick. I was stressing out over what to get for my Secret Santa from Yelp. In the end I said forget it and went to Sephora. I had to pick up a few things here. I had to get a gift card for a friend of mine and was picking a facial exfoliate for myself. I found my Secret Santa gift here too. I was so excited and happy. I thought it was cute and I hope she likes it. I like it! The facial exfoliate I got was a self exfoliate. So it knows when to stop exfoliating. I tried it Saturday night and boy was it good. Ugh literally the worst Sephora to have ever existed. Customer service is so shitty, like oh I apologize, did I interrupt your "staring into space" time with my question????? So terribly sorry, I didn't realize your job requirements DIDN'T include attending to your customers. One time I asked a lady to find a good bronzer for me because I am the contour queen, and she seriously was like "...oh, um... so you want someone to like put it on you? That's going to take time..." and I was like wtf ya I mean that's called customer service so I said "u know what nvm I don't want to be a bother I'll find it myself" and she totally ignored me like I was some kind of peasant. Anyway, 10 minutes later I guess she checked herself and said "oh! I have someone that can help you" and I said "ya well I found a bronzer myself but thanks". I mean I was not rude at all, like just my usual nice and polite self (yes MOM i am polite), but inside I was a raging beast. Listen lady, your store is never that busy, I'm sure you can find someone to help if you tried...like... at all. This was not my only bad experience here I'm just too lazy to type the rest. If I didn't work like 5 mins away I would not come here. Visited this Sephora because it's close-by. Was looking for either a primer or foundation. The beauty expert was very informative and educated about both products. However, I learned that the primer is what you wear under the foundation. Shopping on a budget, I decided to just get the foundation, specifically the smooth finish foundation. Service was great! There was one employee at the door who put my name down for a consultation. There was only a one-person wait that was quick! The second employee that I worked with asked me what my need was. I mentioned that I wanted to find a "Laura Mercier primer". She was informative and educated and helped me learn about the difference between a primer and foundation. At the end of my experience there, another beauty expert found the right color of foundation that matched my skin. Apparently I'm a "number 5". Thrilled. The employee at the cashier asked me if I had membership. I gave her my phone number, and she informed me that I had points racked up for free products. I kindly rejected the offer frankly because I couldn't fit anything else in my purse. Like I said, my experience here was great! Would love to come again. read more

As much as I love Sephora, this store is just way too small for a store. Everything is almost here, as what's in Sephora at Valley Fair - only the spaces are smaller so during the weekends, everyone bumps into everybody. However, staff has been friendly and in majority, accommodating. There's a short lady that works here (heavy set, long hair) who seems to think they have to pantomime to explain how their products work - she seems to not like talking about cosmetics - like one time I asked her "what's the difference between a BB and a CC cream?", and she scoffs and just says something about color correction and blemishes. Thank goodness for Google. The products are a little bit difficult to find on your own. So more often than not, despite being in such a small space, I have to ask for directions on where to find Clinique or Dr. Brandt, etc. Then again, this store is in Stanford Shopping Center, almost right at the entrance, next to a not-easy-to-miss Louis Vuitton and Sony stores. I like the fact that it's easy to spot. I'll come back to this store, of course. I wish it was just a wee bit more spacious. read more

Ah, Sephora, thank you for refreshing my memory on why I don't shop here. Customer service was lackluster. Products which the Sephora website claimed to have in stock at this location were out of stock. -The person I approached for help was so purely uninterested in actually helping me that she was yapping "great team work" compliments to other staff through her radio, while I was interacting with her. -Once I finally had an item picked out she told me she'd send someone over to help me with that transaction. Apparently she was too busy with something, unbeknownst to me since she was staring off into the distance when I walked up to her, to help me with my petty transaction. -This mysterious other person didn't show up, or at least not fast enough to catch me before I decided to walk out empty handed. It's not like I drove all the way across town for that one thing I wanted to buy or anything. Where I faithfully buy all my products: MAC, specifically at the Nordstrom's counter if you want excellent service and an unbeatable return policy. Seems they were all too busy chatting around the register to actually help anyone. Maybe they had better things to do than actually work. Out of all the Sephoras I've been to, this had to be the WORST I've ever been to in terms of customer service...even the original ones in France. Americans ruder than the French? wtf? :p I jest, I jest! (sort of) Even my husband couldn't get help for some of the mens' products they had. He had some questions, but no one would even give him the time of day...it's not like we were scruffy looking, either. We were going to buy some stuff, but ended up going to Valley Fair and going to that Sephora instead. Pissy, gossipy, lazy sales people aside, I loved the selection they had there - it was awesome! It seemed like it was a fairly busy location (I know, it's stanford, so of course it will be busy!) but they do their best to stay well stocked.
