I had a mixed experience at this Sephora location on 6/19. On the positive side, several male associates on the sales floor were friendly, proactive, and checked in to see if I needed assistance, which I appreciated. My frustration was at checkout. I made a purchase of $63.56 during the current promotion where spending $75 earns 500 Beauty Insider points. I specifically asked the female cashier about my points balance and whether I had enough points to redeem a reward. She explained that I would not receive the points from my purchase until a future visit, which was fine. However, she never mentioned that I was only about $12 away from qualifying for the 500-point promotion. The reason this stood out is that I visited Berkeley Sephora location the following day on 6/20 and overheard a cashier proactively telling a customer they were just a few dollars away from the promotion and asking if they wanted to add an item to qualify. Had that same information been shared with me at the SF Embarcadero location I most definitely would have added a small item, especially since I was already planning to purchase a travel-size product from the same brand. I'm not upset about missing the promotion(well, i am a bit perturbed) but I do think associates should consistently inform customers when they are only a few dollars away from earning a significant points bonus, particularly when the customer is already asking questions about their Beauty Insider points. A little more attention at checkout would have made a big difference. Promotions are meant to drive sales, and it's disappointing when customers have to learn about them from another store rather than from the associate completing the transaction. read more

I stand corrected; this is now my favorite Sephora in the city. Reasoning: they modified the online pickup option, so that the greeter is by the door to help and you don't have to wait in line. To be fair, it might have always been that way and the day they made me wait in the main line to pick up might just have been a day they were short on staff. But I digress... Also, it's basically never busy in here anyway. In fact I am giving them 5 stars and crossing my fingers they don't end up closing shop. So much in SF is in flux... And finally, I would just like to add that the staff and security have always been very nice to me, which really does matter a lot. read more

I love Sephora. I visited here today during lunch hour and left so happy! I felt like a teen ager in there trying the makeup. I was looking for full coverage foundation to cover my millions of freckles. The beautiful Trynity helped me very professionally - she had my skin tone analyzed with a feature on her phone, matched me perfectly, applied a sample, and boom! It's done perfectly. BIG Grinch energy! I ordered online for pickup and made it to the store right as they closed at 6:00 as that was the soonest I could make it after work. The employee that answered the door was incredibly rude and irritated that I thought I'd be able to retrieve something I already paid for. 'We're closed - whatever you need, we're closed' It's very clear that the staff packed up early and wanted to leave if the register was closed out exactly at 6:00pm on the dot. I am leaving town and won't be able to come back to that store to pick it up... a real bummer since it was a Christmas gift for a family member. I understand that they want to go home and yes, it was technically 6:01 by the time I got them to come to the door to chat with me. Sorry, Sephora, but I have shopped here way too many times with poor customer service to give you more than 2 stars. No "hello," "how can I help you?" "thank you" or even "goodbye." What was even worse was that there were more staff members than customers and no one was willing to make an effort. The majority of the staff either stood around talking to one another or pretending to mind their own business even though they looked at me when I walked by. Maybe I looked like I was all business and knew what I came for, but still... After reading the other Yelp reviews, I can confirm that my experience was not isolated and this location needs much better employee training and management. They have signs outside advertising, "We belong to something beautiful," so I hope they use this same idea to create a better shopping environment for their customers and for themselves. The only positive was that there was one gentleman who was actually helping a customer and kindly moved out of the way, so I could get by to shop for skincare on the same aisle. terrible customer service. esmae really did not want to help me place online order. the other lady couldn't process my cc and had attitude before finally telling me apple pay down. i was left on my own and i couldn't place order online cuz zip code error happening. why wasn't able to place my order all at once with one person is this ridiculous and then suddenly the credit card apple pay thing doesn't work nobody in the store wants to work there def not trying to help people. just going through the motions collecting a paycheck. Such a strange experience at this Sephora! My coworker was looking for sunscreen and I was recommending one to her but couldn't find it. An associate came over to offer assistance and when I asked her what I was looking for, she immediately tried to sell us on a completely different brand. When she finally finished talking, I simply asked again if she could point me to the direction of the product I was looking for because I wasn't interested in her product. Instead, she went on a rant about how she's worked in skincare in 36 years and knows better than me because I'm young blah blah blah. She ended up never telling me where I could find my product. Lady, the item you're trying to sell us doesn't even list sunscreen as a top ingredient, is meant to actually just be a primer, and is not what I'm looking for. Came in the get my makeup done with Kat. Fabulous experience. She called me prior to my appointment to get a better idea of what I wanted and we both got on the same page, so to speak. She introduced me to some great new products and didn't try to oversell me on anything. My makeup was perfect! This is the only Sephora location I'll go to for all my makeup needs. Unlike the other locations I've experienced, the staff at this location actually seem to enjoy their jobs, are very kind and seem to want to help (not sneak off into other isles when they see you approaching with a question or needing help). Separately, I've had my makeup done here a couple times recently for a shoot, important dinners, and a party. The artists that blessed my face were Lilia, Cole, and Brandon. Oh, and how can I forget Brendissyma (hope I spelled it correctly)! Each one of them are truly talented makeup artists and had me leaving looking AND feeling glamorous. I didn't have a specific makeup look in mind and let them create whatever look they wanted and I'm glad I entrusted them because I've gotten many compliments each time. Had photos taken afterwards and I felt flawless (no filter needed ;-)). Highly recommend this specific location for your makeup needs. read more

These reviews here that highlight the crappy customer service are all on par. Every time I go here, I'm always disappointed leaving because the staff is so unhelpful and lazy. Today, a lady (but not a real lady in the sense that she was classy) named Heather really ticked me off. I asked where I could find the Marc Jacobs Daisy mini set because obvs I couldn't locate it on my own in the store and online it said the store was in stock. She said they were out of stock if they didn't have it on the shelves. (But as a regular Sephora shopper, I anticipated her checking the back room or asking around as a back-up but nope, she didn't). I then asked her if she could check the back because online it showed they had it. She said "ok" and proceeded to walk towards the back but turned around 20 seconds later and said "yeah we don't have any." Like cmon, you didn't even look. I tracked down a different person, this time a nice gentleman, and he looked IN THE DRAWERS to find a set hanging out. Now, that is customer service. Too bad it took an unhappy staff member and 10 minutes to complete this shopping experience. Sephora is finally in FiDi - a definite convenience to those who work in the area and don't want to deal with all the craziness of the one in Union Square. I went to the opening and even though it was sheer madness the line moved fast and I was able to get out of there ASAP. However, when I came back multiple times around lunch, it was busy but manageable which was great! I get to stock up on all my skincare/makeup staples and the testers are not disgusting like the one in Union Square. I was having a bad day...spider bite under my eye and just feeling ugly all over. I really needed a little lift. Instead of eating my usual lunch I went into Sephora in EC 2 building where I met Brendyn and Brendyssima who helped me select a foundation shade that gave me a GLOW! A lipstick that turned MY frown upside down and really boosted my self confidence! Make up isn't MAGIC....it can't really make you look like Cindy Crawford...(I'm dating myself here) today it wasn't about the make-up instead it was about the MARVELOUS people who spent time cheering up the little drab Admin! I left with a sample of Gucci perfume that smelled like Summer flowers...a NEW foundation and a POP of color for my lips while I sit tippity tapping on my keyboard... Today after my visit to Sephora I feel more glamorous..ha ha! Everyone at this location made ME feel important and beautiful and I appreciated the excellent customer experience! This location is so small! They don't carry a lot of brands and are always out of stock of the ones they do carry. It is so frustrating, b/c the one on Powell and the one in Walnut Creek (where I live) have everything I need and more! I think it is because of the size of the store that they don't have the capacity to carry everything. Since I am a VIB Rouge member, what is the point of me coming into this store? Whatever I want to buy is always out of stock and they offer to order for me via free shipping - but I already have free shipping as part of my VIB perk. I work nearby this location so I like to come and test out products/grab things during my down time. And as a VIB Rouge, I actually buy A LOT of stuff. And be careful, because, I always open the product to check before buying. and have found some powders with a swipe mark across them. Which is why I was deeply offended when a worker rushed to my side (after no one greeted me at all during my entire visit) when I reached into the drawers to looks for a NARS setting powder. There was none on the shelf, which is no surprise b/c they are always out of stock of everything. And no one was around to help me so I just opened the drawer to look for another one. Then an employee out of nowhere just runs over and basically takes the product from my hand and asks why I am searching through without asking for assistance. If they don't want ppl going into the drawers, then they need to properly restock the shelves or lock them up so ppl can't get into them. I then tell her that I wanted to open it and check it before buying b/c I have found some products with swipe marks on them before. She opened it up and showed it to me - wouldn't hand it back to me until I told her I wanted to buy it. Geesh, I am a VIB Rouge - why would I be damaging products? I love this newest SF location at FiDi. So close to my apt and the train station =) I have taken multiple classes here already (Winged Liner, Perfect Lips, Correct & Conceal Undereye Circles) and I love them all! You get personalized attention from the instructors on what products work best for you (including picking the perfect lip colors and concealer shades for your skin tone). Highly recommend taking classes with any of the instructors here (love every single one of them). A great pick me up to the week (usually offered Tues - Thurs) and so very convenient. Really bad customer experience. Manager on 8/26/19 was incredibly rude, a Hispanic gentleman gave me a hard time while trying to return a lipstick. He was like did you grab the wrong shade or did we give you the wrong shade, in A very accusatory tone. Why did it matter when I was returning after a week of when I bought with the product barely used. All within the parameters of Sephora return policy. You all need better training read more

I stopped in today on my way home from work and NO one greeted me as I entered. Even as wandered the store with various items in my hand, no one offered me a basket, no one asked me if I needed any help. I went in to buy skincare items, but since no one was around to answer questions, I gave up and just got a face mask. The sales associates were all too busy talking to each other to check in with the few customers they had in store. The worst part was getting to the cash wrap, where there was NO LINE, and the cashier is too busy talking on the walkie to even acknowledge me. I said hello and he answered the PERSON ON THE WALKIE, not me. I was the one to say thank you, have a great day and he didn't respond. What horrible customer service. How close this Sephora is to my office is both a good thing and a bad thing! I love the convenient location. The store is a good size but a tad smaller than some of the other ones around the Bay Area. However, this store is typically not as packed so the customer service is one of the best I've experienced! Unlike other stores where I've generally been ignored unless I get someone's attention, I get asked multiple times if I need help at this location. I've been super into skincare lately and I'm very pleased with the selection of skincare products at this store, taking up almost an entire side of the store. I've had some free time after work this month and have been signing up for their free beauty classes. Jessica and Elisia have been teaching these classes and they're great! Super friendly, helpful, and I've been learning a lot. Definitely feel free to drop by for classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6pm because all of the classes I've been at were not full. read more

I love Sephora! I'm a marketing and brand exec, and this is truly one of my fav brands.... and I've always found their customer service to be fantastic, but their Embarcadero store is the worst. Not one person asked me if I needed help and I wandered around for a good hour. I waited in a giant checkout line, finally get to the cashier..she was not only a sour puss, but she practically whispered and with the music so dang loud in this store I had to ask her to repeat herself at least 3 times. I spent $260 and the cashier never said thank you. She started talking to the cashier next to her after she handed me my receipt and bag. I guess I was "dismissed"..... Extremely disappointed in this staff at this location.... they need to take a lesson out of the Union Street store playbook. read more

On the same boat with the other reviews, customer service is terrible! As soon as I step into every other Sephora THIS IS THE TYPICAL EXPERIENCE: 1. I am greeted at the entrance by an employee 2. I am asked multiple times if I need assistance or have questions about the products and am given a name in case I do have questions 3. If I have anything in my hand I am offered a basket 4. Cashier is super patient when I am trying to decide what I want to use my VIP points for 5. I am greeted on my way out and thanked for "coming to Sephora" This location did an amazing job at doing the complete opposite! I have gone in a few times since I work nearby and have gotten the same terrible treatment! I am surprised that their corporate office didn't hand pick the employees at a location where it is filled with business professionals and tourist that are aware or do not notice the skewed prices (yes....even the McDonalds in this area charges more for their food to meet the cost of rising rent). All this said, I should also add that I am not your typical nightmare customer (been on the sales side before and know what it's like to deal with assholes) so I get it, when you are tired of dealing with attitude and over privileged clients regularly it's hard to pick your day up....but guess what?! This is still your job and there is no need to take it out on everyone! This kind of shitty behavior from every single employee, every single time I come in is unacceptable. read more
