We went here for a late lunch on a Sunday. It was a hot & sunny day so the outside tables were mostly vacant. The hostesses were not friendly and acted like they didn't want to seat us...almost as if we weren't good enough to be there. They initially sat us at a table out of the way with no view. When my husband nicely asked if we could move to a better table with a view, he was met with some hostility. After moving, our new waiter and other members of the staff glared at us, and we were deliberately given poor service (and even ignored) by them. All in all, the location and view of the river were fabulous, the food was decent, but the overall service completely sucked! read more

I went on a BeAUTIFUL night & the only reason I'd go back was to enjoy the weather, the view, and the drinks. My meal was pretty horrible, I got fish tacos which were smothered in sour cream, but my bf's calamari wasn't so bad. The service was really great , I could tell they were trying to go above and beyond. I guess if I had to eat here again, I'd do it, but pretty unwillingly. I would be happier grabbing chipotle and coming here after to enjoy the view & the ambiance. read more

I went for Brunch on Sunday and really enjoyed it. I used to go to Tony and Joes but since its closure, this has been a great 2nd. The food was nicely displayed and the choices were many. We ate here for dinner on Friday night and just like before the dinner was nice. The strength of Sequoia is its ambience. A very nice place, classy décor, and a good menu. A nice spot for dinner after a movie at the Georgetown AMC theatre. We had Sunday brunch at Sequoia and the food was wonderful as we expected. We had a grumpy waiter which is par for the course here. However, we were not aware that because it was Georgetown University graduation the price that day was raised to $49.95 per person rather than the stated price on their website and OpenTable.com of $44.95. It's not the $5.00 per person add-on that's irritating (and shame on us for not paying attention when we signed the check -- didn't realize the overage until we looked at our bank statement online), it's that they didn't bother to advertise or make arrangements to state on OpenTable or their website that they have a special event up charge on the day you've made your reservation. read more

I came here for dinner and drinks one evening after work with a couple coworkers. We ordered the lobster guacamole and the charcuterie plate. Both were really good, but a little small on the portion size for the price. The star of the experience was our waiter, Pok. He was very attentive to us and he made sure our water glasses were always full. The entire staff was actually very good. Went for breakfast on a Saturday. Should've known better than to stay when we walked in and there were literally just four other tables with people. Here it is shortly: coffee was lukewarm, the waiter picked the kind of toast we were going to have with asking, the entrees we ordered had ingredients in them that were not on the menu, the ham and cheese (apparently with onion) omelet had zero flavor, and the hash browns were soggy. This place by far has one of the best buffets for brunch. The selection is amazing from fresh sliced prime rib to an eggs Benedict station. Everything is amazingly fresh and the raw bar is superb. Went for Mother's Day, it was a beautiful brunch. The view, the food, the service, etc. all very good. Children loved it: balloons, caricatures, face painting all very cute. Brunch included oyster bar, Bellinis, crab cakes, bread pudding, carving stations, macaroons, etc. my 3 year old thought the chocolate fountain was the greatest thing. :) very family friendly with unlimited cocktails, coffee and juice. The staff was attentive despite the restaurant being full due to all the graduation ceremonies. The excellent seafood lived up to its reputation (though the mojito did not) and had it not been for the mice (yes, more than one) scurrying about it would have been another great meal at Sequoia. Honestly, the mice weren't the problem- it was the fact that the staff seemed unconcerned and certainly not surprised when we called their attention to it. In fact, I asked if they had named the mice since this it clearly is a frequent occurrence. No apologies or effort was made to address the mice which leads me wondering: are their mice in the kitchen too? Quite an expensive dinner for it to be shared with mice scampering under the tables. read more

Wow! This place is really phoning it in during Saturday brunch. Most of the stuff coming from the kitchen is missing ingredients if it is remembered at all. The service is terrible! My husband and I decided we were going to drink instead of eat to get our money's worth because the food is meh. The champagne that came out to us had a bit of orange juice in it. If we wanted that, we would have ordered a mimosa. We spent much of our time here with empty glasses and this brunch is not cheap, y'all. They are really relying on the view, which is very nice. Each time I am in DC visiting family, a Sunday brunch at Sequoia must be on the agenda. Situated on the Georgetown waterfront with sweeping views of the Potomac and the Kennedy Center, it is an elegant restaurant and usually a real treat with the endless brunch and bottomless mimosas. Though beautiful each time I've been, after a six month renovation, the interior is crisp with interesting light fixtures and white table settings with thoughtful pops of color. On this visit, however, the experience was pretty disappointing. The service was dreadfully slow. It took quite a while for a waiter to even come to the table after we were seated, and multiple times throughout our meal we were searching for him to refill waters or mimosas. The food on this trip was also just ok. The sausage gravy was stone cold, the breakfast potatoes undercooked, mac and cheese slightly dry, and crab cakes far too soft. There were redeeming factors in the fried chicken and breakfast standards (waffles, pancakes, bacon, and eggs), and the offerings are so plentiful that it is easy to find other things that are tasty. That said, when you're paying $70+ per person, the expectations are rightfully high. I won't write them off entirely and am sure I'll return on a future DC visit, but I hope things return to the high quality I've experienced on past visits. read more

Came here recently with a group of friends and had horrible service. We got seated and had to wait at least 30 minutes before our waitress even showed up to take our drink orders, then another 30 before they came and were able to order dinner. When the food arrived, they had the incorrect order for one of the people in our group and the rest of us had finished eating before his correct meal arrived. Further, someone else ordered a medium-well burger and received essentially an uncooked burger. Was finally able to flag a manager who definitely agreed that the burger was uncooked and immediately offered free dessert or drinks and comped our friends meal, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, because it had taken so long to get our food, we didn't have time to partake in the free dessert and drinks. Only redeeming quality was the waterfront views. For what you pay, you would expect better service and the food was just ok. Overall, would not recommend. read more

Our decision to go to Sequoia was last minute because my wife was running late and we missed our original reservation time at another place. We decided to go to Sequoia b/c it was close to the Kennedy Center and it had outdoor seating and was right on the water. I was a little concerned b/c it only rated 3/5 stars on Yelp, but it turned out to be a great decision! It seems like kind of a touristy place b/c of where it's located (Washington Harbour), but my wife and I were very impressed with our meals. She had the Chilean Sea Bass (one of her favorites) and I had the ribeye (one of my favorites) and they were both cooked perfectly and delicious. Hers was very tender (but not raw in the middle), and mine was cooked to a perfect medium rare and incredibly flavorful. Now, it was a bit pricey ($50 for my steak, about $35 for her sea bass), but, as a I said, it was cooked perfectly. All in all, a very enjoyable dining experience. read more

The attentive and friendly service, the delicious food quality, the surprisingly good champagne and the great views- worth every cent! A+! Service was bad, lots of empty water glasses. The server was a good dude but felt like he was in over his head. The calamari tasted awful, very rubbery and artificial taste. Sequoia comes off as a fine dining establishment and the ambiance is spot on but the food and service is pretty bad. Ordered the spaghetti entree and it was pretty good but very inconsistent temperatures of the sauce noodles and meatballs. It makes me wonder how the food was cooked/prepped. On to the worst part... out of 8 people 7 of us had a bad case of stomach bug or something (psa- i am not a doctor) which gave us powdery liquid poop. Im not blaming sequoia directly and it could have been something else but just stating what occurred. The powdery liquid poop was not fun to deal with. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE! Absolutely terrible customer service! When we got seated, the waiter didn't even come by and introduce himself or ask if we wanted anything to drink, on his first appearance to the table he just brings us waters with ice and before I could say I don't drink cold water with ice, I wanted to order an actual drink he literally just gave us water then left. I then ask someone else working there if they can open up an umbrella near our table because it's scorching heat. He then says no and then just leaves. We Waited over 50 minutes because that original waiter never came back to give us menu, bread, NOTHING! Finally I call someone over and say we'd like to eat because we're starving and we need menus. And then at that point we decide to not order 2 appetizers and just go straight into ordering entrees because we're starving. Food then took forever to arrive too. Note: they also have 2 hour limit notes on the table which is absurd because we waited almost an hour just to have the waiter give us a menu! And then ended up skipping out on ordering dessert because at that point we're pretty fed up and just wanted to leave and the waiter didn't even ask if we wanted the dessert menu. I refuse to willingly ask for another menu. My date still for some reason left a nice heft tip for the waiter (idk why) but truly terrible service! Sequoia really missed out on paying customers wanting drinks, appetizers and dessert simply due to not even providing menus or asking! It's so interesting that when we were there it wasn't even busy so I'm truly confused as to where on earth the waiter even was! read more

This restaurant used to be so much better. Views are great, but the Sunday Brunch menu is surprisingly limited, and has only one option for vegans. Also, you can pay $25 pp extra if you want unlimited mimosas, etc. Not worth it in our opinion. I had the crab benedict, which was good. It came with home fries, but I would have liked some fruit on the side. My husband had the steak omelet, which came with home fries. Again, some fruit on the side would be nice, as well as some toast. We had to ask for toast, which was extra, and arrived when we were almost finished eating. Our waiter was helpful when he came by, but we had to track him down for more coffee/tea. Atmosphere was loud and too casual - especially for the price point, I would expect a quieter and more upscale atmosphere. And it is comical that they list their calamari from Judith Point, RI....it is Point Judith. I'm from Rhode Island and go to Point Judith every time I'm back there. Check a map and change your menu accordingly. read more

Food is not restaurant quality...I make better dishes at home. Outside has a nice view but the restaurant had music going (not great music) and there were boats docked having political battles with flags waving, music blasting, people getting drunk (I know this part is not the restaurant's fault). The drinks were expensive but tasted as if they contained no alcohol. When we inquired about it, they said the drinks were premixed and that was just the way it is. Premade cocktails? The waiter was...meh...no real customer service there. One good thing...the food did come out fairly quickly. There are select items on the menu that are good like the coconut shrimp and the chicken. My friend said her lobster salad was good too. I had the lobster linguine...not flavorful...and my other friends had the lobster, mussels dish with tomato broth...they said it was bland and did not finish it. This is my second time coming here in about a month (first experience was much better...we were inside, had a much better waiter and had the chicken dish) and I won't be returning. They are fairly busy so people still seem to like the place...it was clean and they did temperature checks and contact tracing forms so that's great! Not worth the money I spent though. read more

What an absolute disappointment! We had reservations for the last night of our family vacation and wish we had gone elsewhere. Our server was very sweet, when she was around, but it took 2.5 hours to get our dinner. Couldn't find a soul to check on our food. Table was set for 7, we were a party of 6 and no one took away the extra place settings or chair so we had an awkward seating arrangement. We looked throughout this cavernous restaurant for a manager, each time that we did she was being scolded by table after table of frustrated diners. Dining room full of unhappy faces. An absolutely awful environment. They need twice the staff. And be warned noise level is deafening. read more

I had been here a few times about 5 years ago when I was a student in DC. Returned this year for July 4th and was stunned at how delicious our food was. A+ charcuterie and cheese plate. Decent wine selection. Tuna taquitos were great. While lobster was decent size but looked like it had been broiled after being boiled so some pieces were pretty dry. Excellent location, great indoor decor and awesome outdoor patio area that is relaxing and charming. Overlooks directly onto the river and walkway ... makes for great people, boat and plane watching. Food has a large selection of wonderful dishes and the drink menu has some pretty fantastic concoctions. Had the lobster guacamole, oysters, crab cake sandwich and lockstep sandwich. All were wonderfully delicious. Only drawback was the completely absurd and hilariously stupid $4 charge for additional tortilla chips for the guac. Honestly, the fact that the place gives minimal chips with the dish then has the audacity to charge for more is bad enough - but $4 for a dish of about 8-10 chips. Just the principle is awful. Would have given them 1 star just for that treatment of customers, but the food was good and the staff polite. Not sure I'd recommend just on basis of the pricing absurdity and clear arrogance of the management/ownership. read more

Went here a couple months ago with my girlfriend. We were escorted to a window table overlooking the River, which was nice. However the ambiance left a LOT to be desired. The overhead flood lights had some kind of circuitry problem and kept getting brighter and dimmer continuously. On top of that, the table had a horrible wobble so that our water sloshed around. And I know at least my chair was broken (the armrests pulled off). We were moved to a different table, unfortunately away from the window this time. The chairs at this one had the same issue. When the waiter came, my girlfriend asked to substitute a side dish and was plainly told no, they couldn't do that. I'm sorry, for a place that touts themselves as being a "fine dining" establishment, and for the price that we were paying, you can sub a stupid side dish. The company was great that night (and continues to be) but I will not go back to Sequoia. It's overpriced for what you get, and the interior needs some serious attention and repair. read more

Sequoia is right at the Washington Harbor in Georgetown, with a view of the Potomac you can't beat. It's a huge restaurant-we made reservations for a Friday night, but it was unnecessary. Also, if you want to sit outside-which you do if the weather is nice-no reservations are required. The food was awesome-everything tasted so unbelieveably fresh. The prices are very high-$100+ for 2 people. But, on a special occasion, it's worth it. My only complaint would be the service. Our waiter was very slow in every aspect. In fact, a couple behind us complained to the manager. Otherwise, an overall excellent experience and highly recommended. read more
