It was my first time at Sequoia restaurant and my first impression was what a fabulous restaurant. They have an outside deck overlooking the Potomac river. Too bad we couldn't sit outside because it was raining. Service was excellent. The ambiance was classy yet relaxed . my whole family loved it. Food was not bad either.. my only complaint is that it was my birthday and they didn't sing happy birthday for me when they served me with a complimentary cake , but I saw them sing for other people for their birthdays . however, I can say that I would definitely go there again and enjoy the outside deck when it's not raining. read more

I am so happy that we randomly decided to eat here! The food, drinks, and service was above and beyond my expectations! I ordered the tropical papaya drink and it was sooo good! I got two of them! You recommended this drink 100%! I honestly think that the shareable were the best part of the meal! We got the grilled squid and grilled peppers! The squid was so tender and flavored perfectly! I loved the fresh salad that came with it! Also was a fan of the huge olives! I licked that bowl clean! The squid went perfectly with the grilled peppers! The buffet included an omelet station, waffles, seafood (crab legs, shrimp, mussels, oysters), traditional breakfast items, crab cakes, paella, and more. I visited Sequoia's Sunday Brunch Buffet located at the Washington Harbor Waterfront with a few awesome friends of mine. There is street parking available and plenty of parking garages. The location is picturesque and beautiful. You go down the stairs towards the skating rink and bear left to head to Sequoia's. Once inside, we took the elevator up to divinity. Yes indeed! The inside is well decorated. Just gorgeous! Wall to wall windows, colorful chairs and clean table cloths. The drinks that come with your meal are unlimited that includes seasonal bellini's, mimosa's and bloody mary's. At your leisure, you may enter the double doors into food heaven. You pick up a hot plate on your right and head down the line to pick up your choice of hot food. There is pasta in a chipotle cream sauce, fried chicken, hash brown patties, seafood paella, and a few more things. Then, there are made-to-order tacos, carved prime rib station, seafood on the rocks (oysters, mussels, snow crab legs, old bay shrimp, etc), sushi station, made-to-order crab cakes, made-to-order shrimp cakes, made-to-order eggs benedict station, made-to-order omelette station, made-to-order waffle station, cheeses, so many different types of salad and fruit. But WAIT... there's more! May I present the dessert area! You have your choice of various small cakes, berry parfait, creme brûlée, white chocolate bread pudding, cotton candy (YES A COTTON CANDY MACHINE WAS IN THE BUILDING), and a chocolate fountain. To place in the chocolate fountain you had rice krispies on a stick, marshmallows, fruits and other delicious treats. Hopefully this appeals to you because it sure did to me. The patio setting at Sequoia on a clear Saturday night was beautiful! Our server Jeff was excellent. We shared a couple of appetizers, calamari, flatbread, and salads were wonderful. The crab fried rice is a dish to look out for - quite tasty, but it contains wood ear mushrooms, which I would come to find out can cause intense stomach distress. After feeling quite a bit of pain within a few hours of dinner, I started to look up the ingredients in my meal, and found that wood ear mushrooms have been a root cause of quite a few problems in the past. The symptoms I experienced were consistent with a wood ear mushroom issue. The situation cleared within 48 hours, and the other ingredients in the meal were prepared perfectly. I would go back to Sequoia, and perhaps I'd be more careful in the future. read more

We went this past Sunday around 12 for brunch and I will definitely be going back! We had reservations for 12 and they required 10 out of 12 be there before getting seated. Price: $70/person for brunch. Tax and gratuity not included. Keep in mind it is all you can eat which includes alcohol and desserts. Food: soooo many options and sooo delicious!! Best brunch I've been to. I had sushi, crab legs, mini soft tacos, paella, raw oysters, variety of cheese, pasta, all kinds of fruit, veggies, shrimp, crab cakes which were all delicious and fresh! The fried chicken was a little dry. I was too full to try the omelette station or get any eggs but I'm sure it would've been delicious as well. For dessert I had macarons, creme brûlée, cotton candy (which you can take home), cookies, cheesecake. All delicious. I did not care too much for the fruit tart maybe because there wasn't enough cream in it since they are so small. I can't drink but everyone I went with had drinks and everyone at the table really enjoyed the flavor of the drinks..plus being unlimited you can't beat it! Ambiance: very well lit, there is a gorgeous view and it's pretty much all glass, the restaurant was clean and the noise level was average not too noisy since the ceilings are so high. Parking: The valet is $25 or you can park in the garage right next to it for $13 and they do not validate the parking. Service: our service seemed Ok, however they did not seem to be on top of their game filling up the nonalcoholic drinks and not enough napkins. I guess for some staying on top of the alcoholic drinks is more important LOL. Bottom line, I would go back for sure. I might get a good workout in prior to make sure I'm extra hungry I am still giving this place five stars because I do think the food was amazing and just the ambience was very nice! It would be great if they ran promos here and there but perhaps they don't need it because they are so busy.. I was beyond disappointed with my Easter brunch experience here. The only reason I'm giving this so many stars is because our server, Sing (or Singh?) was phenomenal. His positivity was infectious, he made sure our glasses were always full, and he never left empty plates on our table. I came to Sequoia for brunch last October for my mom's birthday and it was probably the best brunch experience I've ever had. For approximately $60/person, Sequoia offered an unlimited brunch (food and drinks) for 2 hours. I've posted photos of some of the food we got in October. The experience was so great, my family decided to come back for brunch despite the upcharge for Easter. To my enormous disappointment, the Easter brunch was buffet style. While the increased charge was communicated to me when I made the reservation, the buffet was not - and according to the waiters, the buffet was just brought back that week so it's odd that this change was never brought up until we sat down. Had we known, we absolutely would NOT have come here for brunch. We paid more per person for a worse experience! Sequoia has great food but that was totally lost in the buffet experience. For starters, social distancing is impossible in a room with people milling about in whatever order they feel like. Second, different food is at different stations so while I'm waiting in line for one station, the food on my plate is getting soggy and cold. Not a single dish remained hot by the time I sat down at my table so everything I ate was always lukewarm - not a great time. Third, while I agree that Americans need more exercise in general, navigating the restaurant tables and other customers to walk back and forth to my table with full hands while in heels is not the time I want to be getting that exercise in. Fourth, the salad station used the 3 same bowls for every salad people asked for, which meant that dressings were mixed and ingredients were left over. Finally, there was a live worm wriggling on my plate. A waitress walked past me while I was freaking out and took the plate IMMEDIATELY - I didn't even have a chance to pull out my phone and take a photo. I watched her inspect my plate (which had oysters on it - I had already eaten 2 oysters and the crab legs on the plate by this point) and speak to the manager immediately. He came right over to explain why worms existed. Sir - no animal should ever be moving on my plate!!! No matter what! He said that these worms are normal when oysters are soooo fresh and they had just shucked them so that's why the worm was there. No, that oyster was not just shucked because there is a huge pile sitting behind the raw bar station already shucked, just waiting to be put on plates. Also, I buy oysters from farmers markets all the time and I have yet to see a worm. This restaurant should reconsider their source for oysters and take the time to clean them! I shudder to think of how many people accidentally ate a worm on Easter morning. Honestly, I didn't eat anything after that plate so I definitely did not receive $100 worth of a food or an experience on a special holiday. Also, my meal was not comped at any percent and I tipped Sing 20% cash. I sincerely hope management reconsiders this buffet option. Sequoia used to be my top spot for recommendations for family brunches or upscale brunch but if buffet continues, there's absolutely no reason to come back here for brunch. Brunch only: First time eating at sequoia, me and my family were catching a last minute brunch after the Endgame. Very underwhelming experience for people to always brag about it. While it isn't costly, (children under 6 eat free, 6-12 half) I could still spend less and eat good at farmers fishers bakers next door. The kids enjoyed it though, especially the dessert area and you can't beat bottomless. I probably would not return, unless it was with children. Not horrible just nothing that stood out to me. Man oh man. I think I've found my new favorite restaurant in DC. I went yesterday for dinner and started with the frozen mule and the calamari. The frozen mule was just the right amount of sweet and strong and the calamari was super fresh and breaded just right. I ordered the clam pasta as my entree and while I wish that there were more clams in the dish, it still gets 5 stars. Amazing flavor, especially if you love garlic, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. It wasn't super crowded so I was able to pick a seat outside right in direct sight of the water so that made the ambiance!! I look forward to trying their brunch in the near future. read more

There are a few reason that I took my beloved coworker who's visiting from UK: 1) It's got the outdoor deck, 2) it's close enough to Rosslyn where we work, 3) Georgetown is a great location. We got there on a Thursday at 6pm and sat at dining area on the outside. The hostess really was pointing us to the bar area but we actually wanted to sit down and have a nice meal. We were sat pretty quickly so that was good. I got the cucumber gin drink and my friend got a mocktail. The scene was absolutely beautiful that evening and the sunset was breathtaking, my coworker was appreciative of the restaurant. However, my drink was NOT GOOD. It was super weak, full of ice and not at all worth $15. I drank a few sips and mentioned to our waiter, he immediately took it back which was very nice. He came out 10 minutes later and apologized, he said the new mix was a bit weak and the have notified the bar manager. The second try of the drink was stronger but I still didn't love the flavor. I went with a glass of wine after that. For food, I got the blackened salmon with corn mashed potato and side salad with chutney. It was really delicious especially the crispy outside of the salmon. My friend got the seared scallops which also looked delicious. Overall, I will come for fancy food and good scenery. If you haven't been before it's ins great location right on the waterfront in Georgetown. This was my first time attending their Sunday brunch and I couldn't have been more impressed. There are so many food stations. The food is amazing and there is literally something for everyone. The service great and the restaurant was exceptionally clean. Our waiter was on top of everything. I came in with reservations as a group of 5 for Sunday brunch. We had reservations. But we were still sat about 20 min after our reservation. But they did bring us drinks while we waited. The food in the Sunday brunch was meh. The bacon wasn't really crispy, the Mac and cheese was bland, the crab cakes were flavorless as well. The oysters were also not properly shucked. They were still attached to the shell. The spicy tuna rolls were very good I thought. A good amount of spice to it and not just a ton of rice. I also liked the waffles and the array of cheese. I didn't get any of the shrimp or crab legs. My dinning partners did and enjoyed them but were disappointed they were on ice. The dessert was my favorite part and I am not a desert person. They had a chocolate fountain, ok but played out a bit. They had excellent cream brûlée. They also had like a denser beignet type thing. I've been to Sequoia's brunch plenty of times and I have always been impressed by the fresh seafood and scenery of the restaurant. However, on Friday afternoon my best friend and I decided to try their lunch/dinner menu. Ehhhh... we should've stuck to brunch. I am a big ahi tuna lover and I also make it at home so I know exactly how I like it. I decided to order the ahi tuna salad with expectations that Sequoia would give me the same brunch vibes that I'm used to... All I can say is I was very disappointed. I came here for my birthday based on all the positive reviews for the Sunday Brunch. I was so excited to come here and lived on Yelp the week before reading reviews and getting tips to prepare. Since there are a million brunch reviews, I'll hit the points that I think people didn't mention: 1.) This place is PACKED! We arrived for our 12pm reservation and when I walked in I was overwhelmed. There were people EVERYWHERE. It's a big space, but every single table was full and there were 20 more people in line waiting for a seat. So even if you have a reservation, be prepared to wait for a table to free up. Also if your plan is to have a quiet intimate meal, then this is not the place to do it. Noise level is definitely on a thousand for the Sunday Brunch. 2.) The area where you get food surprisingly is not crowded, so there was some relief there. However, some of the food was disappointing. For instance, there were crab shells in my crab cakes. If I'm paying $64 per person I don't expect to have to pick out crab shells in the crab cake. The taco meat was also undercooked. Everyone at my table who had a taco commented on it. Otherwise the food was great, but those things are disappointing to experience when paying the price they charge. 3.) Just about everyone in there was celebrating a birthday. They did the birthday cake at just about every table. That tells me this is not a place you come to on the regular. I would only come here for special occasions. 4.) Wear your Sunday's best! People were dressed to impress. Don't come here in sweats and expect not to stand out. This should be obvious though. That's Brunch in DC rule #1! 5.) The dessert station is everything, so make sure you save room for it. The mini creme brûlée was out of this world good. The milkshake was awesome and the papaya cream dessert was even better.
