I took a Persian Tabriz rug in for cleaning, and ended up buying a new Indian rug for another room. While I was doing home repairs/remodeling of my living room, my designer had purchased a cheap, acrylic rug that was obviously poor quality. In the midst of doing all of this work, I decided I should have my beautiful Persian Tabriz rug (in another room) cleaned after several years of light wear. When I walked into the Serapi showroom, Babak immediately recognized my rug and knew where it was from based on the traditional design. He taught me about my rug-- from Tabriz, who probably made it, how long it took to make, how many women's hands carefully created it...and, of course, what it was worth. As I purchased it from Craigslist from a man who also loved the rug, I had no idea it was worth more than 10 times what I paid for it. Babak's kindness and deep respect for the rugs and the craftsman engendered a deep appreciation myself, such that I feel connected to the place and the women who created my rug. While waiting, I found the perfect wool and bamboo silk, abstract rug for my living room. With very little information and no down payment, Babak offered to send it home with me so I could try it in the room (he did have my $10k rug). He folded the rug up and put it in my trunk, and then let me keep it for weeks without calling me. Of course, I called him that we love the rug and wanted it. Because it was new in the showroom, he hadn't tagged it yet; plus, with the pandemic, he was giving everyone designer, wholesale discounts. When I came back to pickup my rug and pay for the cleaning and new rug, he told me that he had actually quoted me the price of the smaller size. He would abide by his quoted price, he just wanted me to know. He was not putting any pressure on me, there was no guilt. Just very matter of fact...and always, always SO KIND and RESPECTFUL. This may sound very hippie, but my interactions with Babak were not just respectful, but they were sacred. Babak has a sacred respect for the committed artisans, the materials, and the traditions from which these rugs come. And I feel that he is aware of the sacred gift that these works of art represent as they grace the homes of his customers. A connection to a time and place not ruled by mass production and disposable materials. Great selection of rugs, especially modern look that we were looking for. Babak (the owner) is very knowledgeable and very helpful. We went there after visiting some other shops in Palo Alto and Menlo Park. Babak's personality, knowledge, helpfulness, and willingness to work for us and find exactly what we were looking for is what sealed the deal. In addition to his knowledge of rug variety and quality etc... (which he should have), he has a good sense of style and home decor. We sent him a few pictures of the family room area that we were buying the rug for, and after a few days he got back to us with our own pictures overlapped with some rugs of his recommendations. His recommendations matched what we were looking for. Some of the rugs that we liked were well above our budget (which was not low, BTW), but they had a good selection and we ended up buying a piece that we really liked, and that fits our lifestyle perfectly. I have actually grown to love that rug now that we have had it for a few weeks. We went back and bought another round rug for under our Grand piano. This in itself should say something about their customer retention and helpfulness. When buying higher end area rugs, marked prices and discounts that stores advertise can be very deceiving, and is very hard to figure out whether one is getting a decent deal or not. To me, what it comes down to, is the trust you find in the person and the relationship you build. In this case, I could trust the fact that we got a very reasonable price on the pieces that we bought. We will go back to buy another rug for our living room once we have the funds for it. read more

We've purchased 2 rugs from Babak over the last 6 months, and in both cases it has been a fantastic experience. In the first instance, we were looking for an 11x14' rug for our family room. The showroom had an unusually high proportion of rugs that we *really* liked. This was after having gone to the Macy's furniture store and another rug store where we struggled to find anything that we could see putting in our home. We chose two rugs and took them home, both were beautiful but we finally decided a bit beyond our budget. Babak then helped us find the PERFECT rug, which fit our style, our room, and our budget. He ordered it and we received it within about a week. We could not have been happier with it and with Babak's knowledgeable and thoughtful service. In fact, we've had a couple of people comment on how much they love the rug, were amazed at how reasonable the price was for the quality, and they've gone to Serapi to shop for their own rugs. A few weeks later, after hearing my wife rave about the new rug for the 10th time, I went back to buy her a runner for her birthday. Again, was wowed by the selection and had trouble choosing from the great selection of beautiful and high quality rugs... but Babak helped narrow the selection and I made a choice that she was totally delighted with. I inherited some rugs from my mother when she died in 20l4. I didn't know anything about them, so I took them over to Serapi Rug Gallery. I had seen the store when I had stopped in Los Gatos after lunch one day. their rugs are gorgeous. I met Babak's wife Mahdis. She photographed the rugs for me, measured them and gave me information as to how old they might be, what their present value could be.. especially if they were restored. Unfortunately my mother, who died in her late 90s,did not take good care of the rugs. Mahdis suggested several options and we discussed what the best course of action would be to restore them as much as possible. She told me that one of them should not have fringes that they were an" after market " product I followed her suggestion, and one of them is now gracing my dining room and looks wonderful. the 2 others are smaller and have been cleaned and are waiting for a spot in the house. I presently have one rug to be restored which she suggested could be washed and a small fringe added. I am very happy with Serapi and her and Babak's advice. I would never go anywhere else. Thank you for all your help, your patience as I admired your beautiful gallery and all the gorgeous rugs. And the prices are reasonable for the work.. it is time consuming and laborious, but all worth the trouble. The owners are unfailingly patient, helpful and charming. Babek is the most helpful NOT pushy shop owner. He is patient and very willing to bring rugs out to your home for approval. That is very important as it is hard to choose a rug from store displays. I can't compliment Babak, the owner and principle sales person, enough. I grew up on Los Gatos and still visit frequently because my family still lives there. My husband and I fell in love with the rugs we saw through the windows after hours. We went in the next day and bought 3 large rugs for our home in Los Angeles. The prices were very fair and the attention and service we received were exceptional. We were not rushed and there is no hard sell. We took up a lot of time because we were uncertain about some final choices. Babak made a recommendation based on the description of color I gave him. Never having seen our home, he made a spectacular recommendation that enhanced our room far beyond what we could have hoped for. The quality of the rugs, of course, speak for themselves. The selection and range of colors and sizes is impressive. While all rugs were shipped, one arrived with an odd crease in it. I spoke to Babak over the phone about it, and he said the rugs usually relax about 90 days after shipping. When the creased didn't "relax" out of the rug, Babak made arrangements to be in Los Angeles to address the issue in person. Of course he fixed it. We recently needed to get the rugs cleaned. Babak found us a rug company that would do the work for us. We were stunned at the price--about 50% of what we were expecting. The rugs are being returned tomorrow. We are madly in love with the rugs we bought from Babak (they are so beautiful), and the service and care he provided to us are unequaled. We are about to begin a major remodel in our home, and if we need more rugs, we will absolutely be working with him. I won't consider purchasing rugs from anyone else. Babak spent a significant amount of time helping me understand the difference between rugs and also helping me choose the type of rug that would work best in my house. He even drove over to my house on two occasions without charge to roll out several of his fine rugs in order for me to make the best choice.
