I might be too optimistic reviewing after only a few visits, but I have only had good experiences here. Let me clarify. I have an almost 2 year old. It's hard to get him to sit through meals. Although we go out to eat often to get him used to the drill of sitting, eating and waiting, it's nice sometimes to have a place I can finish my meal and drinks in relative peace a quite while he plays. The atmosphere is casual and lovely. I've been here with a groups of 6 and two (and a variety in between) and the service has been attentive, if not a bit slow. I think because they have only one or two people working the place--including getting ice cream or coffee drinks and serving tables the service runs on the slower side. The food has been great. The serendipity salad with grilled steak is wonderful-- I love their vinaigrette and the tomato soup is silky smooth. I guess I would give anyplace that served a good meal that lets my child play in a contained area while I drank a glass of wine with my friend 4 stars. Sorry to be optimistic. read more

The first time I came it was lovely. I was by myself and the food was great, this time it seemed like a different cafe all-together, the food was lackluster, it was noisy and the service took forever!! The only reason it's not a 2 is because of the great experience I had the first time, but I don't know if i'll be back or not. read more

It was one of those nights where no one wanted to cook and we found ourselves in the Magnolia Village in casual attire so we thought we would try out the empty but inviting Serendipity Cafe. I had some kind of turkey sandwich or panini with fries and it was ok, as it was very much a cold sandwich that had been put in a panini press. The sandwich was good it's just that I must have had a different idea of what I was getting than what I received. I will be coming back in the future. read more

Went for brunch not a lot going on in Magnolia. The eggs were delicious good bacon, pancakes were very blah and the maple syrup was just sugar syrup. Service was slow but friendly. And as everyone mentions they have a play area for children so beware of screaming noise level. A bit of a mixed picture with this neighborhood breakfast / brunch spot. The food is decent and plentiful (I like the smoked salmon scramble). The service is a little slow. Our main gripe is the play area. It's great to have this resource for families but the last couple of times we've been in it's been absolutely filthy. The floor was covered in dirt and there were old pieces of French toast discarded with flies buzzing around. Honestly, they need to commit to cleaning this area and the toys daily. It's such a shame to have this space and for families to be completely put off coming because it's so unsanitary. read more

I went to Serendipity for take-out today and I thought it was fantastic. I had the BLT with Avocado and it's the best sandwich I've had since moving to Seattle. Serendipity is a nice liittle cafe located in the heart of Magnolia Village. My wife and I decided to ride our bikes over for breakfast this morning. The service was great and the food was good. Our waitress was attentive, polite and made sure that we were totally stisfied with our dining experience. We will definately go there again. read more

It's just...MEH. We went there because we had a $25 gift card, and not sure if it's worth going back there again. Food was okay and good- First, "FRESH SQUEEZED" lemonade WAS NOT fresh squeezed. I was able to tell it was those concentrated ones, and the price they charged for that ($3.75), I felt like I was cheated. Nachos (with chili) could've been better because there was barely any cheese on it. And they charge $4 to add chili, when it is already a pretty good price for nachos. Beef steak salad- good dressing, but the portion was too small for the price ($14). Turkey burger with sweet potato fries. The fries were good, turkey burger was whatever. Overall, I'd say it's overpriced for what they're giving. I guess because it's a local, private business? The total we paid was $50- I can get better food somewhere else with $50! Didn't get a chance to try their pastries- maybe this place is just better as a cafe. read more

Excellent Cobb salad! Lemonade a bit pricey. Mac and cheese was okay, needed a little something- maybe Beechers cheese or some other smooth white cheddar. My son wants to order the Cobb salad when we go back. The apple cider vinaigrette was light and the salad was not soggy. The fresh greens made this salad great. read more

This is my second favorite local coffee place. A bit more of a drive than Brewhaha, but worth it on that odd afternoon that they are closed, or I find myself in the village itself. I love that this place is local... that makes a lot of difference for me. I've never eaten here, but I might. I like that they have the gelato counter, not that I've had any. I just really like the coffee they serve, and they've always had very nice counter staff. Best coffee in the Village. Maybe once I experience all the other things that they have to offer, I might give them that other star. read more

Three of us went to Serendipity Cafe yesterday to celebrate my Mothers birthday. Wow we hit a jackpot of cuisine. The birthday girl had the Penne pasta with mushrooms and red peppers. Our friend had the Fish taco plate, and I had the Quesadilla with black beans. We all sampled each others and all agreed the food was marvelous. It is a family friendly cafe like other reviewers wrote. The children that were there acted like they had been there before and were very comfortable in the play area in the back. There were other folks who were in the front on computers while eating and drinking who didn't seem to be bothered by the children. We all agreed that we would go back and take other friends with us next time. Very nice. Giving them 4 stars because there is always room to improve. : ) Which we hear may be in the works. read more

My young family has lived in Magnolia for the last 9 years and this is our "go to" spot to meet folks for dinner or brunch. Probably eaten 75+ meals here. Yeah, it's nothing fancy... but the staff has always been friendly and attentive, and the food good. Prices about average. Overall the atmosphere is laid back and very family friendly... their play area is awesome for kids, and there tends to be a small group of children interacting with each other at mealtimes. The food and service is terrible. My husband and I along with our friends have given this place many, many tries and they continue to disappoint. It takes nearly 10 minutes for the servers to even notice you once you are seated and they seem to care very little about pleasing. The food is the worst part of the experience. Instead of having so many items on the menu, they should have fewer that they actually do well. They cater to children but the play area is absolutely disgusting. I wouldn't let my child step foot in there and my other mom friends feel the same way. This place is an epic fail because their concept is so great yet they miss the mark at every turn. I also get the sense that the owners don't care either as I have had terrible service from one of the women who owns this as well.
