I have loved going there at least once a month but did not pay attention to- pricing. Then today I did. A waffle, 4 pieces of bacon, and an iced tea- $40 with just a 20% tip. Bay Cafe is a beloved neighborhood cafe in the Magnolia area. We've been coming here for over 13 years and it hasn't changed a bit. Breakfast is their jam here and it's fun to be eating in an old style restaurant right next to the boats. Kids love the French toast and pancakes, I come here for the Denver scramble and hashbrowns. You aren't going to be blown away by fancy dishes here but the food is plentiful, tasty and the service is kind and friendly. I've been visiting Bay Cafe at Fishermen's Terminal in Seattle for years, largely because of its beautiful bay views, vintage café ambiance, and consistently friendly service. One of the things I've always appreciated is the presence of longtime career servers who have been there for decades--it gives the restaurant a welcoming, established feel. The food has traditionally been good, with generous portions that made it feel like a solid value. My partner and I stopped in today for a quick brunch and noticed that menu prices have increased significantly since our last visit. We also noticed most of the restaurant was empty which was not normal for a Sunday and we quickly learned why... Sandwiches that were previously priced between $16-$18 are now listed around $25-$28. Scrambles and Benedicts, which used to run about $19-$21, are now also in the $25-$28 range. Mimosas, once $6-$7, are now $10. The price increases were consistent across most menu items. While the food was still adequate and we left feeling satisfied, we did notice that portion sizes seemed smaller and the presentation was not quite at the same level we remembered. The overall experience was still pleasant, especially because of the location and warm service, but the price changes were very noticeable. I understand that rising costs and inflation affect restaurants, and adjustments are sometimes necessary. However, the current pricing (close to a 25% increase) makes it harder for us to justify visiting as frequently as we have in the past. We'll likely return on rare occasion for the atmosphere and view, but it will no longer be a regular brunch spot for us. read more

Bay Cafe is a semi-regular breakfast spot in our neighborhood. So, I have a bias towards liking it... and in the past it was good enough to earn my business. The view is great, the food was pretty good, same with the service and the prices reasonable. I went today, after not having gone for a couple of months, and wow! Prices have changed. All of the egg dishes were between $27 and $30. Ooof, that's a lot, but I bit my lip and ordered my usual corned beef hash and eggs. Half of the stingy corned beef was impossibly chewy. It was literally inedible: the potatoes and red peppers were cooked to mush, and besides the three eggs, the portion was a fraction of its former self, which if I am being honest, came as a relief, as I wound up leaving most of the meal on my plate uneaten. It was so disappointing, and with a $30 (plus tax and tip) gut punch to boot, their cash drawer is much larger than my stomach. I won't be going back. Sad :-( read more

The location of this place is really neat. Right next to the marina, most tables have a great view of the boats, and with lots of windows, on a sunny day this place is great. There is also ample parking which is not common for Seattle restaurants. The service was okay. While the staff was friendly, it took a while to be sat, then a while for our waiter to come to our table and then we hardly saw him again and had to flag him down when we needed something. It was busier than I would expect on a Friday afternoon, so I could imagine wait times may be longer on busy weekends. The food was good. I had the seafood benedict to try something new and while I don't think it is something I would go looking for again, it was cooked well and was decent quality overall. The prices here are bit high for what you get compared to other brunch places though. read more

Super packed for brunch. This is a nice upscale diner next to the water. Hashbrowns are freshly made if you're lucky enough to catch them on a new batch and most importantly, they have a lot of my favorite brunch items. Although, not really a brunch item I don't think, I ordered the rare in the wild Monte Cristo sandwich. Also had a cup of coffee which tasted kind of funny to me, but I'll take whatever caffeine I can get. The sandwich was missing the sticky syrup which it very much needed because it was otherwise dry without it. Definitely prefer it over jam and it wasn't powdered with sugar from what I recall. Not really much of a Monte Cristo to be honest. But I still ate it and got full from it. It was pretty large. Would not say this is the best place for a Monte Cristo, but from what I've had, it's a decent place to get a good hashbrown. I think I'll get a standard brunch item next time around. read more

Wait staff isn't very friendly which is off putting. Food was marginal at best. Hash browns are the type that is reconstituted and mine were underdone and cold. I ordered chicken fried steak. However, I am unable to return after the price hike. I don't know if we are now "paying for the view" but charging $6 for a mug of drip coffee is too much. A coffee at Chinook's next door is $4. My omelette is $27 and a waffle and sausage is $25. A side of bacon is $12. The service has always been good to great, especially with the longtime staff there. A lot of seniors go there too, and I'm sure they can no longer afford it either. I am sad that after 20 years we have to break up. read more

I really like this restaurant. They always have great food and service is consistently great, but it's pretty sad to see that they've increased the price so much. Well it's been about 8 years since my last review and I no longer live in the neighborhood, but on a recent visit to Seattle, my husband and I were excited to grab breakfast at an old favorite. Bay Cafe did not disappoint and still lived up to our memories. Bay Cafe does a great job incorporating seafood into delicious breakfast dishes. I had the smoked salmon scramble and my husband had a special that was a fresh fish benedict. As usual, the staff was friendly, the coffee was flowing, and the views are amazing. My Eggs Benedict cost $28.00. My total bill with my coffee was 37.75. I got a slab of soggy potatoes and a benedict with a thick slice of Canadian bacon on a, also, soggy, English muffin. There were 3 tables filled at 10:30 on a Wednesday but otherwise it was extremely quiet. They were nice but no one checked on me once. They also did not bring me my check. They did not refill my coffee at all. When I paid my check I mentioned that I could have used a refill. I was told it was the time of day and they were busy. There were 2 wait staff talking behind the counter and two others who were wandering around the restaurant, a busboy who was also wondering around, a hostess and 3 cooks in the kitchen yucking it up very loudly. To sum it up, service was minimal and reminded me more of a fast food restaurant than a sit down establishment and the food, unfortunately, did not live up to it's very high price. read more

I usually swing by for brunch. Most days it is bustling with customers and the staff are all zipping by. They have a pork chop special and a NY Steak special, from time to time. They also have seafood like snapper, crab Benedict, and some other options if you're into that. They are close to the docks so it's all fresh. Prices can be a bit up but honestly not out of line for Seattle and they have good portion sizes. With that, I can see how they've stayed in business so long. They have a large menu and the space feels like an old school diner with the teal and purple seating. There's not a lot of dust up above so I feel like it's clean too. You see a lot of the same staff but they rotate areas and days so it seems like they hire a lot of people, who've all been there for a long time too. They are only open until 2p, so it's a great little spot to stop in for breakfast, lunch, or a $6.50 mimosa. read more

Mornings here could be described by breaking the word breakfast into two words 1st is "break" : the waiter sat us near the employees break area, which in itself isnt necessarily a bad thing. However the break area consisted of random workers speaking in tones that are not suitable for a quiet breakfast. The cheese atop was at best the lowest quality one can probably purchase. Other than that it was a papery thin egg, rubbery, cold atop of the low quality cheese. It looked as if it had sat in the refrigerator all night and been thrown in a microwave before sitting out to cool prior to the waiter delivering it to us. Second Im going to do a rabbit hole on the hash browns. Umm are they supposed to be cold on the inside? Not sure Ive ever had the experience of tasting coagulated oils in my hash-browns before. My friend and I have eaten here for breakfast twice, and both times we left happy and satisfied. Both times were during a peak breakfast time with no wait and satisfactory service (along with speed). Amazing natural light throughout the restaurant, as well as a fantastic view of the bay no matter where you're seating. If you're looking for a place to take out of towners I suggest you put this on your places to consider list. I'm a big fan of going out for breakfast and they serve it all day, which means sometimes until 2:00 when they might close. It's a pretty cool little spot that seems a little old school or retro with it's red and white color scheme offset with pale blue. It's a very nice alternative to the larger restaurant that is located at Fisherman's Terminal. The staff was all really nice and the options were pretty impressive. One downside for the men, or those who identify as men, the urinals gave off a pretty good"funk" so be prepared and breath with shallow breaths. Good luck. For a generous portion of food, friendly and efficient service, in a no frills atmosphere, I'd recommend this place. (They also found me a seat near an outlet so I could charge my phone. And they have WiFi!) The seafood is fresh since the restaurant is on the bay and you get to boat and bird watch. My ticket was $38.04 before tipping. read more

Pleasantly surprised!! I'd come to go to a neighboring restaurant, but they weren't open yet. I saw a family walking towards the Bay Cafe (which wasn't super visible from where I was) and I thought "maybe there's a place to eat over there," and wah-la! It's nicely lit - mostly natural lighting, at the moment, with the huge wall of windows. Just gorgeous! I was seated immediately, and service has been good - not too much & not too sparse. Food is just fine. Not Michelin-star worthy, but perfect for what I'm looking for. The menu is quite large, though, and it took me awhile to decide what to order (I like having lots of options, so this isn't a complaint). Went here for breakfast around 10am on labor day. For 2 people there was no wait and we sat immediately. They do require masks to enter. This kind of seemed like an older crowd kind of restaurant with many customers seemed to be 50+. Food here was okay. I got the Kings salmon benedict which was a special for that day. The salmon was over cooked and dry. Plus I had a bone in mine. Hash browns weren't seasoned at all. Eggs were poached well. The fruit was nice and fresh, I got oranges, grapes, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. my partner got the chicken friend steak and said it was fine but nothing special. They did have a $5 mimosa special which were very good and had a good balance of champagne to organs juice. Overall it was okay. Designed to cater around the fishing fleet here at Fisherman's Terminal in Seattle, this spot is just to the east of the Chinooks restaurant and located on the dock side of the building. What you will get here is truly an authentic American breakfast like no other. Add to that, they have fresh fish of the day, which goes very well on a salmon Benedict, or other flavors that spill over into the lunch menu. Keep in mind that this place is only open from 6:30 - 2PM daily, so if you are looking for lunch, don't doodle and make sure you get in here while you can. Every type of omelette, Benedict, waffles, pancakes, you name it, they have it, oodles of bacon and sausage will make you want to come back and try them all, which if your lucky you will have the chance.
