I had the pleasure of having Stephen color & cut my hair. I had went to another salon before & received an uneven cut & color....so I came in with my hair looking a mess! Stephen and I discussed my hair goals, made a realistic plan based on protecting my hair from further damage & he did an EXCELLENT job. 2/20 Unfortunately changing my review to a 3 instead of 5. I'm currently stranded out of town due to weather (much beyond my control) which resulted in me having to call this morning to cancel a 3pm appointment. I was told if I ever cancel again I will be charged 50% of the service. Yikes! I understand businesses can't be opening themselves up to inconsiderate customers who would routinely schedule and cancel, but I feel like this easily documented weather related emergency is the kind of challenge that unfortunately comes up and can have implications for a business. I won't feel comfortable making another appointment knowing that i'm now responsible for paying 50% if something comes up. I understand the business decision but don't think it will work for me. It's a disappointment for sure. read more

This place is fantastic! LaRee is the best colorist I have ever been too and I've lived in Chicago and NYC.

LaRee and all her staff are very knowledgeable, kind and make everyone feel welcome and beautiful. They are in business to help others look and feel their best, not just make a profit. The products they offer are top notch and services are superior. I've gone to Rachel for microdermabrasion and she makes you feel pampered, not to mention she is a super funny and sweet person! LaRee has turned my hair around in just a few appointments, giving me a more stylish look, with lower maintenance. So I will say that serene does do a nice job cutting hair. The only complaint I have is that serene will send out emails with discounts. This would generally be considered a perk, however, every time I try to call and get the discount on the services offered, there's never an appointment available or they say that discount has already been claimed by someone else. I tried a facial from a Groupon so maybe I didn't get the best service because of that. It was 'fine'. I was given about 7 minutes to change and get prepped, that's way too long. Then after doing a quick look at my skin she left for another 5 minutes to gather the product though I was never asked about what I wanted. I've never had a facial where products aren't in the rooms? When my skin was cleansed it wasn't steamed and there was no extractions which there should have been. When she put the mask on my face she then left the room (I don't know how long the mask sat since I couldn't see the clock with my eyes covered but I'd guess 10 minutes). Then she finished up and I still had 10 minutes left on my appointment to change back into my clothes. So about 30 minutes that she should have been working she spent outside the room. If you never had a facial you wouldn't know that this is not okay. They should give you 3-4 minutes to change, no more than 5 for sure on either side of the appointment. The products should be in the room for them to mix after she discusses your skin with you, the steamer goes on as soon as you are brought in so it is ready when the cleansing begins and extractions are standard to do. Most importantly you are to get a scalp or hand massage, or both while the product works. I guess I got what I paid for because it was a Groupon but if they are trying to get repeat business it was a miss on that. I was disappointed because the other staff I interacted with were super friendly. read more

I purchased a Groupon massage voucher for me and my husband. It's such a great atmosphere and very clean. He told me that his massage therapist didn't make a deep tissue massage as he expected. However my experience was great. Stephane was very professional. She asked which part I would like to skip and which part I would like to focus. She also asked if the temperature of the bed was good and how was the pressure which means she is very careful. I really recommend it for those who wants to relax. read more

Facial and haircut by Emily. She greeted me with a lovely smile and bubbly personality. I thoroughly enjoyed my facial and she did a great job on my hair cut. She understood what I wanted and told me what it would need to get there but she made my hair look great. I liked it at the salon but when I got home and saw I was thrilled. I have been a client of Serene for the past 3yrs and I came to them initially with a botched haircut and horrible coloring job. They had to spend a lot of time fixing other salons years of mistakes for my hair type, face shape and complexion. Their colorists are hands down the most educated I have ever personally experienced! For years salons have told me I couldn't be blonde. My hair would fry off. Later and team made it happen!!! My hair did not "fry off" infect because the process was done correctly with a balayage technique I actually get my hair colored less often!!! They ask the right questions about my normal routines and are very honest with me if my hair will do what I am showing in the pictures or if that girl in the magazine is just wearing a bunch of hair extensions! Nails are a special occasion for my 9 year old and I always feel no one listens to her requests (even if they are crazy) However, after only 5 minutes in Serene - I knew it would be different!
