We expanded our search and came across Maple Shade Bed and Breakfast, and what a lucky find. It was a little over an hour from Manchester, where we spent the day, but well worth the drive. This B & B is set on 85 acres of rolling farm land as far as the eye can see. We pulled in and was greeted by the owner Joanne. She was very welcoming and showed us our room, the Ivory Room on the first floor. We found out she had a last minute cancellation and we were very lucky to get the room. The room has a king bed, very cute and comfortable and plenty of room to unpack. She showed us around and explained that breakfast is between 8:30-9:30 each morning, come whenever you wish. After we settled in we took a walk to the Adirondack chairs overlooking the cornfield and enjoyed a sunset with a bottle of wine we had brought. We slept well and breakfast the next morning was delicious...freshly baked muffins, fresh fruit and made to order omelette and the following day was delicious French toast. Their hospitality is just delightful and we hope to return in the future!

Breathtaking mountain views…read more My family rented two vacation houses at the Wilburton for our large extended family of 25 -- I knew very little about the property before we arrived, so we were taken aback by the sprawling turn-of-the-century mansion and spectacular mountain views as we drove up the driveway. We absolutely never expected the art installations across the grounds -- including 18 x 26-foot Egyptian statues! The art and decor were eclectic and unexpected, and I found them very intriguing. It's definitely not your traditional resort, but that's what we liked about it. And the statues made for an amazing night with smores by the fire pit! The Reunion House was spacious -- we particularly enjoyed the living room, as it gave us enough room to comfortably host the other half of our family (about 25 of us) for a casual birthday party. There was plenty of seating with cozy leather sectionals and two large dining tables that seated about 8-10 people each. My daughter loved playing the piano in the living room, and the rooms downstairs with the daybeds were a great place for the kids to hang out and watch TV together. (The galley kitchen is a little small, but we were aware of this ahead of time because it was mentioned on their website.) We were there during a massive heat wave and all the air conditioners worked very well and kept us cool. Our kids loved the volley ball/badminton area steps away from our house. The outdoor pool is beautiful and it was so wonderful to be able to gather there easily with our whole family. The innkeepers were friendly and helpful. And we enjoyed looking around the mansion as well. There was so much do to in nearby Manchester -- great restaurants and shops, the bookstore is fantastic. We also enjoyed the ropes course and alpine slide at Bromley Mountain. We can't wait to return next year -- we'll be staying at one of the other properties even closer to my extended family's rental house and I'm so excited for its private balconies, jacuzzi tubs, and even more beautiful mountain views!

The grounds are beautiful, serving as an outdoor sculpture garden, perfect for strolling or meditation. The inn is located away from the bustle of Manchester Center, but only a few minutes away from Main Street and the state roads to reach nearby towns. The main house was rented out for the weekend, so we were unable to go inside, but Melissa graciously offered to give us a quick tour when we checked out (contactless, as was the check-in), so we had the opportunity to meet Melissa, as well as the "doggie concierge" Jetson, and sampled some muffins baked on the premises. Top-notch service and hospitality, would love to return in the warmer seasons!

The room was spotless, beautiful, and clean. It had all antique furniture, which was all functional and worked without any signs of decay. The bed was wonderfully made, and nothing was out of place during our stay. The television and air-conditioning worked as intended. I attempted to take a shower mid-Tuesday afternoon. After turning on the hot water, I waited a good few minutes for the hot water to actually heat up. Not really anyone's fault; it just took a while. We were on the third floor of an older building - this was fine. The next morning, when I attempted to shower again, the hot water arrived quicker, but when trying to turn the heat down, it took a while. So, the heat in the shower is slow to respond. The staff were amazing. Justin, who resides on the grounds of the inn, was an awesome person who had answers and kindness to every situation that arose. My wife recently became disabled (getting her to the third floor was a bit of work); Justin asked if we wanted breakfast to be brought to her, instead of her coming down. We declined that, she would want to dine in the main dining hall. He was great with suggestions, super courteous, and overall awesome. When we had breakfast the morning of the 24th, Chad was the gentleman taking our order. He was a great person who regaled us with stories, gave us a good laugh, and made sure our orders were correct (wife is also allergic to dairy). He absolutely made the experience better, even if we were at the very tail end of our stay there. The breakfast was excellent; we both ended up eating a sausage breakfast bowl with salsa, bacon, and eggs (I had cheese on mine). Delicious. This is a clean, professional bed and breakfast that is worth returning to.

Our whole experience was fantastic. Matt greeted us upon arrival and showed us to our lovely room called "Bill". I was surprised at how spacious and comfortable the room was. The gas fireplace was an added bonus. The shower pressure was fantastic and the bed was firm but comfortable. There was even a cute little balcony. House keeping also did a wonderful job of keeping our room clean and tidy. Breakfast each morning exceed our expectations. I was happy there was a little menu and was told they could pretty much customize anything I'd like. Chad was super personable and always engaged us in good conversation. You could tell how passionate he is about working there. The Inn itself was charming and I enjoyed the Victorian decor. Each day little treats were left in the lobby. The chocolate chip cookies were delicious!! The location was perfect and very walkable to Broadway Street and surrounding areas. We found that a lot of stores were still dog friendly, even during the winter. I definitely recommend The Sacred Spa during your stay. I learned that the owner and his wife also own the spa. The space was stunning and my husband and I had some of the best spa services ever. Overall, I would definitely return for another stay! The customer service was superb. For starters, no one answered the door when we arrived to check in mid-afternoon, and--ONLY because we knew how to do this--we had to track down the innkeeper, Martha, via the back door. (After 7:30 pm, no one is there at all.) When Martha gave us our keys she declared that she had only these two, so we'd better give them back. Nice touch. I know an elevator cannot be installed, but could they not hire a high school kid to answer the door AND drag the luggage upstairs? As for the breakfast, the staff sets specific half-hour intervals for serving and then leaves your dish on the table to get cold if you don't arrive at the first moment. But the meal is not worth it, anyway: the same four mediocre and skimpy choices, offered every single morning; no cold cereal or fruit and muffins left out as an alternative; and we were warned that unless we filled out the breakfast order the night before we would get nothing, as the staff "cannot accommodate walk-ins." For this we paid megabucks???? I won't make this longer by cataloguing how wonderful this place used to be when it had a live-in and enthusiastic manager, but trust me, it was a real gem and everything one could want in a fine B&B. I know it's been sold and all I can figure is that the new owners tried to cut costs...such a shame.

Cute, clean, and quirky, it's minimal on the trappings, but still manages to be warm and welcoming in all the ways that generally matter to how a place feels. I loved the center covered courtyard in this converted "roadside motor hotel," which felt like a communal living room, and also a perfect place to pull out the laptop and get some work done or just hang out and read, including some of the interesting art books made available in the space. That space is a bonus if it rains... you can hear the rain falling on the interior courtyard! Only thing we didn't do that we should have was to grab a bottle a wine from the very nearby wine store, bring it back to the "living room," and enjoy that rain a little more! Past the free coffees and tea, the place is spartan, but by design, in a very clean, crisp, and intentional way. It still fully pulls off "cozy" in all the ways. It definitely feels "design-y,' but without ANY pretention. Coming and going, were always greeted by every staff member with smiles, genuinely making us feel welcome every time we walked through the door. Free parking might be just an off-season perk, but a great one, and we never had an issue even when our late-ish arrival on a Saturday night meant we had to use the (also free!) parking garage adjacent to the hotel. If it's just one or two of you, don't be put off by the Micro Queen! It still gets the job done, as it's still incredible cozy. The biggest benefit is location, location, location! STEPS away from restaurants, shops, and bars, all right on the "main drag." And even given its location, street-facing rooms are very quiet. Could use some more clothes/towel hooks and a place to put a second suitcase, a slightly warmer LED in the bathroom, and even just a recirculating fan in their as well wouldn't be unwelcome. We would have loved to have access to streaming TV. But these are all minor dings on what was a lovely stay, at this unique property that I'd love to see flourish. It was a great home base, and I didn't want to leave. We'll also now be on the lookout for more properties in the Lark portfolio... when we're not back at the Bluebird!

My stay at Bluebird Spa City Motor Lodge in August 2026 was one of the worst hotel stays I have…read moreexperienced. First, the positive--the staff was friendly. They were not always as helpful or forthcoming as I would have preferred, but at least they were friendly. The motel is also within walking distance of at least one museum and park, as well as lots of good-quality restaurants. So that was a plus. Now for the bad: 1. Check-in: Check-in was scheduled for 4 p.m. We got there around 2:45 and were told our room would be available in about 15-20 minutes. We returned around 3:30. It was not ready then, and we were again told it would be ready soon. However, it was not ready until about 4:30. While they were under no obligation to provide early check-in, they should have given us accurate information. In addition, no explanation or apology was given for the delayed check-in. 2. Parking: We were charged for parking without this being disclosed beforehand, and much of the parking was in a lot in another building. As best I could tell, the website was silent on whether parking was provided, so I should have asked, and they should have disclosed the charge up front. When I raised this at the front desk, I basically got a shrug and a "sorry." Also, since one point of a "Motor Lodge" is that you can drive up to your room and park, it seems incongruous that you would (a) have to pay to park and (b) have to park in a garage in another building. 3. Cleaning chemicals: The room really stank of cleaning chemicals. It gave my wife and me headaches and triggered what I think was an asthma attack that lasted over a week. While we could open a window, there were no screens, so this was not a good option, especially when we left the room. It still smelled of cleaning chemicals later that evening when we got back from dinner, although the smell had somewhat dissipated by the following day. (In anticipation of a response that I should have mentioned this to management, I would say that the people I spoke to were not helpful. It didn't seem like they had any spare rooms, since they could not get ours ready on time, and I had no confidence that they would give us a room that didn't have the same issue.) 4. Noise: The roof in the atrium was really loud, as was our room. Someone (I think Staff) told me the reason for the noise in the atrium was that it had a plastic roof and that the noise was caused by the wind. I'm not sure if that was the issue in the room, which sounded like it had a broken refrigerator running. 5. Wi-Fi: The Wi-Fi was horrible. I could connect, but I never got a decent signal, so it was not usable. I tried this on multiple devices, including wiping out the prior connection and starting over. Although some hotels give you a welcome screen where you need to accept their terms and conditions to get the Wi-Fi to work, nothing like this popped up. 6. Room amenities: The place has cheap plastic cups in the washroom. Considering how much they charge, they should use something nicer, such as real glass. The water pressure in the shower was also pretty weak. 7. Coffee: The first morning I stayed there, they had two nearly empty carafes of coffee and no hot coffee. This was about 7 or 7:30 a.m. Attention to detail, folks! They did have a carafe of decaf, but I didn't try that. 8. 4:30 a.m. wake-up: I received a text around 4:30 a.m. welcoming me to the motel. Apparently, this was a system error, but it was annoying, especially given the other issues. 9. No spa and no bluebirds--only kidding about that being an issue.

Peace Be Still served our purposes, providing two nights' comfortable and restful sleep. Easy to find and locate. Nothing fancy, it's an older roadside motel. Blue tarp covering a sizable portion of the roof doesn't inspire confidence upon pulling up to the place, but that didn't cause any problems. As for our room, the plumbing worked, the electricity worked, the AC worked (warm summer season stay), the mini refrigerator worked, and the staff was friendly, personable, and professional. No bugs, no insects, no creepy-crawlies, no smells, no odors, no mold, no mildew. No problems or issues! Rates were reasonable. It's not a five-star facility, or even a four-star, but it is what it is and makes no pretenses about it. If we wanted to be picky and overly critical, there was no microwave in the room, my wife thought the beds were a little too soft (they were okay with me), and she also found the water not to her liking either in taste or smell (it's well water; geeez, remember, you're out in the country! she's a city girl). Overall, we were happy and satisfied with our stay at the Peace Be Still Motor Inn. Thank you for your hospitality!

I did order the sandwich without spinach, and we added a side of the breakfast potatoes as well. Loved the cozy B&B atmosphere of the dining room and all staff were very friendly and attentive.
