I got the Thai massage as Deep Tissue Massages keep me out of commission for quite a few days which I can't really do for my marathon training. Went in and had Sassy and she was really good. What I find with Serenity is it can be a little hit and miss depending on who you get. I assumed Sassy might have a light touch because she was older but my neck and lower back were really hurting so I just kept mentioning it and told her to go deeper, which she did. I was absolutely crushed when the Thai massage place I've been going to for years (Bahn Sod Thai Massage on Sunset) closed down. Enter Yelp, to the rescue! After perusing the reviews I decided to give Serenity Thai Massage a try: it was in the same price range (actually $5 less!) and had great reviews. Well, fellow Yelpers, you have done me well! I thoroughly enjoyed my massage at Serenity Thai. My MT was strong-handed and creative in her strokes, which might not sound like that big of a deal, but with the number and variety of massages I have had in my life, it is always particularly wonderful to me when someone delights me by being creative and unusual. She was intuitive and spent time on places that most masseuses skip over but I wish they wouldn't: forearms, scalp, the sides of my shins, sacrum/SI joints and upper-side butt ... ^_^ The rooms were clean, organized and private. This place did something new too, which I very much liked: they provided me with an outfit of sorts - over-sized shorts and a vest-shirt. I'm not very modest, but I often get cold at Thai massage places and this helped a lot, she just moved the garments to access whichever area she was working on. A note for anyone who hasn't worn this get up before to save you my embarrassment: wear the top with the opening to the back - I put it on like a vest and she very sweetly corrected me. I also really like the massage oil they used - enough slip to be great but not so oily that I left feeling slimy and gross. They wipe off excess with a warm towel, too. Overall a superior experience, and it far outdid my initial judgment based on the outside of the shop. My only complaint was that two people were loudly arguing (the owners?) in the front throughout my massage, so each time the music got quiet between songs I could sense both my MT's and my discomfort rise. This of course was probably a one-time thing and will certainly not keep me from returning!! They charge $5 less before 2pm ($35 for Thai only, $40 for combo) but do tack on $2 if you use a credit card instead of cash. I don't mind this so much, I'm grateful for the CC option, it's hard to always make sure I have cash on me when I need it! I've often found Thai massage places to be a bit dodgy, but the small Serenity Thai is clean with lovely rooms and nice music. I just finished a 1.5 hr full body massage, pretty much the worst massage experience I've ever had, and I'm dissatisfied enough that I feel like I need to write a review to warn people. DO NOT GET PETE. He didn't get any of my muscle knots, I requested him to press harder during the massage, no change, also he ended the massage 10 mins earlier. Not only I didn't feel the relief from my body, I'm also PISSED, which is the exact opposite one expected when they go do a massage. This was my first stop, and the woman who provided me with a one hour full body massage was very sweet, attentive and worked hard. I could tell she new what she was doing. I liked that this place does provide individual rooms, as not all do. I was in the room furthest back, and the spa music was clashing with the music from the restaurant next door. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. My shoulders and neck had the biggest knots in them that it was getting hard for me to turn my head and I was in constant pain. I tried this place randomly and I was impressed by the prices and how much she tried to work the knots out of my back and help me out. THIS IS THE WORST MASSAGE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED IN MY LIFE. I'd give it zero stars if I could. I went here last night and upon my arrival I should have known better than to pay for their services. The older woman at the front with glasses was rude from the get go. Unfortunately she was also the masseuse who worked on me. All she did was rub the surface of my skin, with very little pressure and a lack of attention to the areas I specifically asked her to help with. If I said it felt good, she would move to a new area, if I asked for more pressure she didn't respond. I was annoyed, frustrated, and felt like she did more damage than good. She also breathed really hard and grunted. At one point, I mentioned that it was cold in the room considering she was lathering me in tiger balm with the A/C on high and she replied, "You're cold, but I'm hot because I'm putting so much energy into this for you". On my way out, she said "Where's my tip? You only paid the bill but no tip?" It was the worst!!! This is NOT what I want from a masseuse whatsoever. This place is terrible. I'm also filing a complaint with the better business bureau, they deserve to be closed. This business should not be allowed to scam people the way they do. I don't care if it's $10, $40 or $100 YOU DO NOT TREAT CUSTOMERS THIS WAY. I had to pee very badly so before the massage I asked this gentlemen who was sitting in the couch if I could use the restroom. He told me no and pointed out the door. I'm a customer here for a massage who needed to use the restroom first but he wouldn't let me. I even called ahead before arriving to have an appointment set for the massage, but they said it wasn't busy and I could just walk in. Even if I wasn't a potential customer, a pregnant woman should be allowed to use the restroom. NEVER coming here and I'm making sure to tell everyone about the horrible service read more
