Would not recommend. Took my vehicle here as I needed a replacement transmission. I was quoted and then ultimately assured that the issue has been resolved. Just days later, I am encountering the same issues I originally had. Wish I would have taken my $3k+ somewhere else where I know my problem would be fixed. My review in 2012 was 5 stars. It is now 1 and would be negative zero if it was on the scale.. For little minor repairs they are ok but for big problematic car problems: !!!!!STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Turns out that Sergio & son are rIp offs and they knew my car had major problems but ripped my off for hundreds of dollars in work that they didn't perform. They take weeks on end of fix things and give moron excuses as to why it take so long to do a job. Papa Sergio leave grease marks all inside of vehicles with no intention of cleaning the marks up. Sloppy just like the office. Ladies, watch it with papa Sergio when he starts trying to call you 'honey'.... he also tries to mask things with ill humor. I've used Sergio's for the past 12+ years. Even though he is out of way for my neighborhood ... he is well worth the drive (or in my case this week ... well worth the tow). I just came back to him after a problem with my radiator (I hadn't seen him in ten yrs), he immediately remembered me and my car, dropped what he was doing and opened the hood ... and diagnosed the problem right on the spot. Amazing service! It is a family-owned business; he is one of the most honest guys I have ever met. Don't let the messy chaotic shop fool you lol ... this guy and his sons are the real deal. My fiancé was with me when I went back to pick up my car today. She asked him about doing an oil change on her Prius. He got inside her car, punched in some type of code .... and told her she did not an oil change just yet. He could've gone ahead and done it - we wouldn't have known any better. I had that dreaded "Service Engine Soon" light go on in my 1999 Plymouth Voyager. Sergio used his computer and was immediately able to decipher the codes to read that engine 1 and 4 were misfiring. He spent a lot of time and checked everything for me. He pointed out to me fresh looking residue of water leakages in the water pump near the engine as well. He guessed correctly that I may have spark plug problems. My spark plugs were old - so I needed to change them anyways. He guessed correctly the injector was broken as well. The "Service Engine" light went away. However, he kept my car for another day to monitor it, as he could still see the engine vibrating a little. He plugged in his computers again and researched the cause. There was a small leak in the gasket - so he had to replace that - and we now could both see the engine not vibrating anymore. I asked him to keep the replaced parts for me to inspect - just to make sure he did change my gaskets, plugs and injector. Those were at least over $500 worth of work, but he gave me a discount (his customer loyalty program). I first went to Sergio over 2 years ago when my electrical system shorted. He was able to determine the problem immediately. At that time, I did not know him, so I decided to get a second opinion from another "Master mechanic". Sergio was much better than the other "Master Mechanic", who spent an hour looking for the problem and then overcharged me for parts. My past experiences has been that Sergio is both friendly and trustworthy. Check out my other reviews - they are all honest as I "tell it like it is". read more

It's ok and safe place to bring your car to fix. It is really difficult to say how much is a decent price to fix the car. At least, for me, it's ok price. Not cheap. Highly recommended! My husband's car wouldn't start, even after we tried to jump it, so we had it towed to Sergio's because their reviews were good. They were super friendly and quickly realized that the problem was that the battery was corroding. They replaced it immediately and we were on our way half an hour later for a reasonable price. I needed to get several scratches in my bumpers fixed (no, none of them my own fault ...) and other shops quoted me rather inordinate prices for what should be a simple paint job. I talked to Sergio and he gave me a rather reasonable quote. Note that it wasn't too precise. I left my rear bumper with him. and didn't hear from him for about a week. So I enquired and was told that they'd already finished painting it. Getting the scratches of the front bumper pained over took another few days. Picked up the car today. The paint job looks fine. Good for the price (yes, the color match is to stock color rather than what a five year old weathered car looks like but the difference is negligible). Yes, it's a bit of a hassle to get the times out of them, but again, the price is lower than at one of the big shops. In summary, you get what you pay for. And if you're willing to humor Sergio and his son for some delays and difficulty to reach them, it's a very good deal. This is the place to go for small cosmetic fixes if your car isn't new and shiny any longer. read more

It's rare to find a good mechanic. It's even more rare to find an honest mechanic. Hector Sr and Hector Jr will have you believing in rainbow unicorns after your first visit. My son's car, abused at one too many Midas shops, had smoke coming out of the engine compartment. Three shops and the Jeep dealership said, "Yeah, it's something but we need to charge you an hour labor to tell you what it is, and we won't be able to look at it until after the holidays." Jeep said their first appointment was in a month. Hector Jr. diagnosed the problem -accurately- based on our description. For free. Five hours later, the car was repaired, plus a few hoses and sundry small problems fixed, and fifteen minutes of instruction to my son on how to maintain the car to avoid this problem again in this aging car. "Don't do too much all at once. Get in again in a few months for a complete tuneup, we'll go from there." Real, old fashioned mechanics. I am so grateful that we found these gentlemen...They are true gems! read more

He was straight forward with the diagnosis, length of time to fix the problem and at a fair price. I am not happy with their service and would not recommend anyone to go here. He put the wrong catalytic converter in my honda accord and also did not weld it properly (with all holes in the joint) when he installed the right one too. When I went back to check it again (due to lot of noise), he said everything is ok. So I took my car to muffler shop and they helped me to find out all these issues and get it fixed properly. read more

Sergio has been my family's mechanic for almost 10 years. I left the state in 2006 and having my mom and sisters back in Sunnyvale, with a mechanic like Sergio.. it makes me feel good. He is honest, trustworthy, and a nice guy. Believe me, if I could have him as my mechanic in Tulsa, OK (where i live now) I would. I cannot recommend him enough. Wish there were more stars to give. They are all honest and hard working individuals... with nothing but the customer in mind. I have taken all my cars there, including my stepson and daughter's cars... friends too ! I won't go to this place any more. My car's engine light was on and I took my car to this shop because it's very close to my home and I also got their coupon. They pulled a code for me and said it could be fixed by just reset the computer. They did so and charged me 40 bucks. But only about 1 week later, the engine light turned on again and it didn't accelerate when I stepped on the gas pedal! I managed slowly drive it to their shop because it's really close to my home. This time they said I need a new part. They replaced a small box (with some wire in it) and charged me $180. I would be really happy if they really fixed the problem this time. But, but, just a couple of days later, when I was about to go home at work just before Christmas, the very same problem manifested itself again!!! I was really frustrated and called them if they could tow my car to their shop and get a real fix. They said they didn't have a towing truck and asked me to call the towing company myself. I was left no other option and so called AAA. After I sent my car to their shop, they said they would only come back after the Christmas holiday. So I was left without a car during the whole holiday! I went to their shop right after the holiday. This time they said they needed to send my car to a Nissan dealer. I agreed. A few days later, they called me that actually it's another part that needed a replacement. The Nissan dealer asked for $250. I really didn't trust them any more so I took the Nissan dealer's offer. After it's fixed by the Nissan dealer, I asked Sergio's to install back the part they mis-diagnosed and give me refund. They refused to do so by saying they had disposed the replaced part. So it took me more than $600 and more than 2 weeks without a car and went back and forth to fix a small problem, which even the Nissan dealer only charged $250. I really doubt if these guys are competent doing their job. I will never go to this place any more. read more

had a coolant leak in my bmw 525i. the coolant was leaving huge wet spots on my garage floor every night. it was leaking so heavy, i had to add a gallon of water to the cooling system every 2 days or so. Brought it to Sergio. He found a hose to be a problem, replaced it and charged $250 for the repair. However the car was still having the same problem, it was leaving wet spots on my garage floor every morning and i called Sergio in a week. He asked to bring the car back and after a short inspection said there was nothing wrong with coolant and it was just some AC water. I told him that i was poring water in my coolant extension tank almost every morning. He said, well, then it must be an internal leak and it would be a very expensive repair. I went to another mechanic. He immediately noticed the problem hose that has never been replaced. It costed me another $250 to replace the hose. I haven't had the coolant problem since then. I don't know what's wrong with this place. They either didn't have proper equipment to put some pressure in the cooling system to locate the leak source, or they were just incompetent. In either case it costed me money and I would never recommend this place to my friends. Look anywhere else for an inexpensive honest repair. read more

I've been a regular customer of Sergio's for many years. Agree with everything stated in the first review. Two of Sergio's employees are his sons, and they are both competent. One of them even does automobile painting. Sergio works very hard, has fair pricing, good sense of humor, loves his work, and has always accommodated my schedule. Once my car had a problem which two auto dealers said required a part replacement. It took Sergio three minutes to make it work properly. The part did not need replacing.
