I ended up paying nearly $1,000, yet the issue still wasn't fixed. To make matters worse, the mechanic basically shrugged and said, "I don't know what to tell you." Frustrated, desperate, and honestly terrified of being taken advantage of again, I turned to Yelp to find another mechanic. After doing a lot of research, I came across Vu at Chet's European & Japanese Auto Care. The reviews were outstanding, and what stood out most was how many people described him as honest. After my previous experience, honesty was exactly what I was looking for. From the start, Vu was completely different. He took the time to thoroughly diagnose my car, spending a day and a half investigating the issue. Throughout the entire process, he kept me informed and communicated every step of the way. Rather than rushing to a conclusion, he wanted to make sure he covered all the bases before saying the problem was solved. He even encouraged me to continue testing the car and told me to bring it back if I experienced any more issues. What impressed me most was his integrity. After all the time he spent diagnosing my vehicle, the root cause turned out to be a relatively minor issue. Despite the extensive diagnostic work, he only charged me for the part and not for the labor. Given my previous experiences with mechanics charging an arm and a leg, I was blown away by his generosity and honesty. Vu is truly one of a kind. Honest mechanics are hard to find these days, and he genuinely cares about helping his customers. If he's ever faced with a problem he can't immediately solve, he'll seek out additional resources and expertise to make sure his customers get the answers they need. I don't write reviews often but Chet's deserves one here…read more I took my 2007 Honda CRV to Chet's (Vu), as I was having steering issues and some noises after recent repair from two different mechanics. Vu took it immediately for a test drive with me in the passenger seat. He could feel the same issue I did. He then put it on the lift and inspected it thoroughly. He wasn't sure of the issue exactly but was transparent in the discussion and thinking. Given the car had been worked on recently by others, I can understand why he would be hesitant to take it on. He noted that "my reputation is more important than one car" or similar, which I understand and respect too, as he said he has been in business for 20 years. He considered his best recommended repair with available information but wasn't pushing it, as it's a pricey repair. Looking to get a second opinion, he then had a different co-worker take another look. The co-worker slid under the car and was able to identify an issue, which was a loose bolt from the prior mechanic. The team right then lifted the car and tightened all the bolts, then took it on a second test drive, and the sounds went away and the steering issue seemed improved. Vu spent about an hour on this work combined with another 15-20 minutes from two or three other people too. After all that, he told me not to pay anything, though I offered! He could have pushed the more expensive repair and I would have very likely gone ahead with it, but he didn't. I need to test drive it further to see how it ddrives, but Vu said if still having issues to come back then to discuss where we go from there. For now, the sounds at least have gone away which is promising! Thank you!!!
