I'm always looking for Mexican food. And, I'm really picky about my Mexican food after living in So. Cal for years. But I have to say that if I'm ever in the mood for my Mexi fix (which is actually pretty often), I will definitely come back here again. I've had much, much worse, living on the East Coast so when I was ready to try this place, I was a little nervous about the outcome. But, I was pleasantly surprised! The tacos were legit Cali taco truck style: simple with just meat, onions and cilantro and I really liked the refried black beans. My only real complaint was that the rice and beans were not nearly as hot as the tacos and that the tacos were sorta oily. But, those ended up being small points because the flavor was really there. I'm super excited for Taco Tuesday and for their brunch that they serve on Sundays! I'll have to go back to try these out. Note: This place is BYOB and parking gets tough at nights on the weekends so it's best to just look for street parking. read more

Been coming here for the past year after a suggestion from a coworker. I used to come here when I lived in manoa and Yudi's deli was here and a cute drive-up coffee shop. Serg's is busy on Friday's and weekends. Parking can be tight but people double park sometimes. I usually get Serg's nachos and the flautas. It's really tasty, albeit oily. I have also had the fish tacos and fish burrito. Kinda wet and the veggies they serve including the shredded lettuce make it soggy. One of best part is BYOB and the salsa bar which includes unlimited limes perfect for the coronas. Flautas are the bomb! Carne asada is tasty when fresh. I thought I had to head back to Diego for some Carne asada fries but they have them here. The nachos are tasty and plentiful. The carnitas is on the oily side but very flavorful. The taste is close to Bueno Nalo from back in the day but just a lil on the oily side. This is my 3rd time here and I thought I try the wings. I thought they were kinda on the pricey side but when I got a glimpse of them now I know why. One piece consists of both the drumette and the wing. They were okay. I still think Vons has the best wings. I always feel like I'm at a carnival everytime I come here. I guess the blaring music and outside seating attributes to this. This place is horrible for time food ordered till the time you get it. I just spent 45 minutes waiting watching people before me and after me get their orders. There's only two cooks and by the looks of all the ticket orders they are not able to handle all the orders and they are not very organized. They also take phone orders which further prolongs the wait time for people ordering in person/dining in. It's not worth it going here. There are much more options with people experienced in how to run a restaurant. I never got my food as I was approaching an hour wait. Ended up getting my money refunded. Came here, well to the pizza part 5 years ago and totally forget where it was when I moved here, pizza was bomb!!! This part though, came today with a friend and OMG! So yummy! The food reminds me of being back home in Chicago and fills you up! They don't skimp the rice either! My friend said since college he'd go to the food truck and loves the sopes, which he got today. We ended up driving past this adorable restaurant and stopping for lunch and I'm so grateful we did! The food was awesome and the atmosphere of the restaurant was so nice. They had music playing and lots of colorful flags hanging down. I got the chicken tostadas and they were SO good! The chips and salsa were also yummy. Honolulu is notorious for horrible Mexican so 5-stars may be slightly generous but I am SO thankful to finally have a Mexican restaurant that I don't dread. The chicken enchilada was delicious as was the rice and beans which is where many of the other restaurants really fall short. The five fresh salsas were tasty. The kitchen was a bit backed up so take advantage of the BYOB because it took ~40 minutes to receive our order. Note: My meal did not look like the photos posted. First time here. Asked for couple of the most popular dish. Got the steak nachos and flauta. The flauta was pretty good. The complaint is the steak on the nachos. It was hardly edible kinda like beef jerky. Just could not eat it. My wife's said the place is "not bad" I said it was "not good". We also had the mama balls. Cheese and sauce was way too salty. Made the return back to Serg's since that one time I came here with my UH friends 5 years ago. Since I could remember, this restaurant has always gotten positive marks for being a pretty decent Mexican food/ taco stop for locals and tourists alike. Thank you to Daniel C for inviting me out to join him and fellow Yelper Nadine C. for Taco Tuesday buddy lunch! Serg's is located in Manoa Valley right off East Manoa Road (right next to the old Japanese school). I was worried about the parking since this restaurant resides in a small space with not too many available stalls in their lot. Luckily, when we arrived around 11:30am it wasn't crowded and parking wasn't an issue. But this may have been due to the fact that taco Tuesday here doesn't start till 4pm when their tacos are $2 each (half off the regular price). I was in the mood to sample, so my order consisted of one of each of their Mexican City tacos: chorizo, pork carnitas, grilled chicken, steak, Chile verde, al pastor, veggie, as well as the fish taco as well. Oh, boy! I got my food pretty quick and all of the tacos were made well, and worth the wait! Meats were juicy and well-seasoned and the even the sautéed veggies I had were tasty as well! The tortillas are little bigger than bite size, so its just the right amount of filling for you to fold and eat without it falling everywhere. Guaranteed I had leftovers for a few days lol. This place needs rolls of paper towels on the table because those thin napkins just didn't cut it when it came to how many times I needed to wipe my greasy taco smeared hands. Also, maybe a suggestion for a water container with cups of water in case customers can't drink the sodas and don't want to pay for bottle water? Overall I really enjoyed the tacos here! Serg's is a great place to grab some Mexican food and hang with friends or take to go. Their establishment is BYOB so that helps to save a few bucks. The prices are pretty reasonable and the food quality is lots of bang for the buck. They can get quite busy on Tuesdays because of Taco Tuesday....$2 tacos. Typical patrons are college students so it can get rowdy/noisy at times but that all adds to the atmosphere. It's not going to be a quiet night out here. One word of note: they informed me they aren't participating in the online ordering via Yelp anymore, but still took my order (after calling to check on it). I'm not sure why, but hey, if the service is still showing up, they have to honor it, right? read more

I have been trying various restaurants to find a Carnitas Burrito that I love and I'm sure glad that I tried out Serg's Mexican Kitchen. The burrito was the best that I've had. So Serg responded back after the customer service experience I had which I previously posted about. He explained their situation at the time along with an apology for my encounter. I'm updating my review based on Serg's rapid compliment back which tells me they/he care about the customer. The carne asada fries were still good and I enjoyed them very much...I did realize after i was done, that the meal quantity was pretty much the same as when they served on the plates. It was a little challenge to keep the toppings from falling on the table or ground, but I guess that could be a good thing. He did invite me back and offered a free lunch which is a nice gesture. We visited this place based on raving reviews, although we have not had good luck with Mexican food here in Honolulu. This place was on our way back from Manoa fall trails, we were hungry and looking forward to a good meal. The service is very friendly. The ladies at the counter were very nice and recommended a few items that were popular. I got fish taco and an al pastor taco. My husband got carne asada burrito. I'm from Southern California so naturally I hold high standards towards all Mexican food. Unfortunately this place weren't anywhere close to my standards. Food is ok (with Hawaii standards, at least). Service was shockingly bad, at least when I went there. The cashier completely ignored us for a full minute, playing on her iPad instead. She then informed us that she was out of pork and steak and salads! She couldn't remember what fish of the day was, so after yelling at the cook for and inquiring, she misprononouced the name of the fish. She was quick to apologize for that, saying "sorry, I don't fucking know my fish". In fact I think she cursed 4 times during the 1-2 it took for us to order and pay. Don't go here.
