The young staff was friendly, polite, and helpful, offering recommendations that made it easy to decide without spending too much time reviewing the menu. I ordered the BBQ Tater, which was absolutely huge and easily large enough to share. It was flavorful, satisfying, and one of the highlights of the meal. My son enjoyed his pulled pork sandwich, though he felt the cheesy potatoes were just average compared to the rest of the food. The prices were very reasonable and competitive for a BBQ restaurant, especially considering the portion sizes. Low top and patio seating. I came in Tuesday night at around 8:15 and the store was not busy at all. There was one customer and she was already done paying the worker who wasn't taking my order had long brown hair. She was super tall and had tan skin. She basically sat there, giving me dirty looks and after five minutes of not getting my order taken while they're being no one in line someone else helped me. She was a very nice young lady, a little bit shorter and had brown hair with some blonde streaks. Other than that the food was great! I would definitely train that employee better. read more

I popped in for take out for 4 family members and was blown away at the ladies at the front counter. Each were professional, smiling and greeted me the moment I walked in. They were busy yet efficient and helped me pick out their favorites. Everyone enjoyed the food and it was so fresh and flavorful. It was packed nicely with delicious sauces. So I'm actually from Lubbock Texas and was in Durango on vacation with my family. I've eaten barbecue all over Texas including some of the top rated spots like Cooper's, to Eve Mae's right here in Wolfforth, and I have to be honest, I liked Serious Texas barbecue better than any of them. We bought the platter and it had a sample of everything, and most of it was bad. It was dried out. Their sauce is thin and runny can't even taste it. The ribs were skimpy and tough, and really didn't have much flavor. I am from Texas. I know what real Texas barbecue taste like and that was not it. I don't recommend this business. read more

We were on a ski trip to Durango and the kids were tired of the same old same old food so we decided to go ahead and give this place a try despite my better judgment. Coming from Austin the Mecca of Texas BBQ. I knew this was not going to live up to Texas barbecue standards however thought it might be good enough. Really this place is a far cry from any kind of Texas barbecue so just know that going in. It's certainly edible, but is not high standard barbecue by any stretch of the imagination. Aside from the Texas paraphernalia around the restaurant it doesn't seem like they've done a lot of research into real Texas barbecue. All the meat was pretty well overdone and lacked good flavoring. Additionally, they locked any real Texas sides other than their potato salad and they have a coleslaw but everything else was their own version which is OK and that's about what they were OK. Final review is definitely doesn't scratch the surface of Texas barbecue but this place is edible. However, their prices match those of good top quality, barbecue joints back home in Austin. read more

What a great place for BBQ after renting ski equipment next door! Its a usual BBQ restaurant where you order up front and they weigh out meats and pay and enjoy. Lots of delicious smoked meats, tacos, and delicious desserts! Service: Was fast and efficient. I could see this place being very busy at peak hours, but we came for a late lunch and had no trouble ordering and finding seats. Tables were clean and not sticky like some places so thats a big plus for me. Food: 1. Just the meat Brisket 1/2lb {4/5 stars, $9} - Tender and juicy brisket, with just the right amount of fat left on the cut. Some brisket is full of fat and greasy, but this brisket had a delicious smoked flavor and perfect texture. Drinks: 1. Zuberfizz Root beer {5/5 stars, $3?} - Im a big root beer fan and never tried the local I presume, Zuberfizz root beer before. It was very delicious and had a vanilla hint to it. I love Serious Texas Barbecue in Durango. I frequently get food at either location, and service and food have always been excellent...except for this weekend, when I decided to try the drive-through. Service was great, I didn't check my order trusting it would be as excellent as ever, but when I got home and opened up my order, which was half a pound each of pulled pork and brisket, they were grayish in color (not the usual pink and fresh appearance) and a tell-tale texture and flavor that points to them having been packaged well ahead of time, and from the lack of freshness, I'm going to guess it sat in those containers in the fridge at least overnight. I'll never go through the drive through again, for the expense of eating out I expect fresh food, not packed and chilled ahead of time. read more

Texan approved! Stopped in to pick up a couple of Texas Tacos (our go-to) and have been happy and full ever since. The taco has everything you could want in a tortilla; loaded with pulled pork, potatoes, cheese, onions and jalapeños with a little bbq sauce. All the goodness you can hold in your hand and stuff your face. We have been coming here for years and they are consistently good. The place is always clean and the people are friendly. If you are there in the summer you can also enjoy their patio which is covered in beautiful hanging flower baskets. read more

I was hungry I wanted someplace fast, but not fast food. We stopped here and got a turkey sandwich. I love smoked turkey but so rarely see it on a menu. So when I saw it, I jumped right on it. It is an incredibly generous serving of (what looked like hand carved turkey slices. Add on the house made cranberry habenero salsa and chipotle aioli and cheese and you have a large and massively delicious sandwich. I am looking forward to my next trip through Durango. Holy pig barbecue! From all the other reviews we were really looking forward to this place. Have no doubts that if you're looking for excellent barbecue. You must stop here. Everything from the pulled pork to the brisket to the cheesy potatoes to the pecan pie were off the chart. It truly takes a lot for me to give a barbecue joint five stars, but they deserve it.
