I was at this barber shop a few weeks ago. It was a weekday afternoon, so I was seated immediately. Overall my haircut was OK, but I am not really picky about my haircut anyway. So your mileage may vary. I paid $16 + tip for the haircut. What disappointed me was the fact that the lady who was cutting my hair ended up cutting the skin behind my ear with the straight razor she was using to shave the back of my neck. I wouldn't really care too much if she just owned her mistake. I kept waiting for her to say something. Instead, she tried to cover up, and kept cleaning the cut until it stopped bleeding, hoping I would not realize. Never mentioned me about the cut. read more

I come here frequently after my friend Ryan recommended this barbershop. Yes, there are a bunch of Asian barbers in this shop, but I can absolutely recommend Victor to cut your hair every DAMN time! Victor is thee man when you're looking for a fresh cut and he's normally off Monday and Tuesday just to warn the rest of you in advance! I was going here for a while because the haircuts were decent and the prices were around $20 which is close to what I think a haircut should cost ($30-$40+ is ridiculous). But they are hella rude. Talking smack is one thing, being rude is another. A person would get a haircut and when they leave the barbers would talk shit about them, their haircut choice, or how they didn't tip enough. Also I would wait and they would take people before me that would come out of nowhere, so the list was deceiving. One time, the barber told me there were two people ahead of me. I figured I had an hour to kill and when I came back there were still two people ahead of me. They need to learn how to treat customers. They gave out cookies to customers one time but skipped me in offering some. It was not an enjoyable experience. I would never walk out with that post-haircut rejuvenated feeling. Instead I would feel like I was somehow a nuisance to them. They are not genuine and their haircuts aren't worth it. Do some research and you will find a better place. read more

This rating is for the shop under the new ownership. Although the old shop rates 10 stars, I'm not too crazy about the shop now with the new ownership. Luckily, some of the same barbers are still there. Linda gets a good 5 stars from me for a perfect fade!!! The reason behind my 2 stars... After being a part of this family for yeeears, the atmosphere is no longer the same. I miss the boxing talks with Steve, and the typical conversations that were discussed with the regular conversations. Good talk while getting a good cut... you can't beat that! I went back on a Sunday, not knowing it was under new ownership... and immediately knew something was wrong when I was the first to get a seat --- when it will typically take an hour. :) I never minded the long wait, because I knew I would walk out with a cut that was worth the wait!!! The three barbers I trust to cut my hair are Mai, Josie, and Victor( the order is my preference of barber). A few things to understand before you get frustrated, it is a first come first serve basis, kept track of by a list you have to put your name on upon arrival. You can leave the name of the barber you prefer and wait or you get dealt to the first available barber with no clients waiting. I do not recommend this as I have experienced inconsistencies using other barbers. Names usually get crossed off as they get cut so when you arrive you can get an idea of how long it will take. Haircuts are usually around 30 mins. If there is enough time in between your slot you can leave and come back when it is closer to your turn. Be specific with what it is you have in mind for a hair cut, pictures help. If you feel like there is confusion stop and clarify. Me and my son have been coming here for 6 years and enjoy the service. Follow these general guidelines and you should be pleased as well. read more

This place is actually one of the better barbershops in my life. My goal is to find a barbershop that you can go with your pops with and still be comfortable, great cuts that dont rush but arent turtles either, un-awkward barber, and all under 20 bucks(excluding tip) and this place is the spot! My barber here is ronnie. He is a Chill Ass dude and got to know me real easy. I asked what i wanted, and he went to work. Sometimes tho, he would check his phone for texts, and even answer it during the cut. They have a mirror on the side(only for ronnie) and on the opposing side so you can see how hes doing the cut. They have 2 tvs one on each side which showed food network when i was there. I recommend going around 2 ish because there was basically no people waiting. For the cut it self was nice. I got a 3 all around taper on sides and back. Lines were sharp(though note that he is not afraid to push the line back a little) and the sides of the back were narrow, though you can make them deeper by request. In the end he vacums your hair and puts shaving cream on your hairline and uses the straight blade to make them lines straight and fresh. He asks your name and even asks if he can call you by a nick name! ask for ronnie for zero disappointment! read more

Walked in at about 520 on a Wednesday. First thing I hear is "awww I wont get to leave early". First timer here and already not feeling welcome. I shouldve left. As for the cut, the the sides/fade looked decent. As should be expected. She ran the #5.5 on top and left that totally uneven. With one side of my head noticeably longer than the other. Unfortunately, my eyesight sucks and they have you facing mirrors that are at least 10 ft away and I didnt notice it until i got home. Had to use my roommates clippers at home. Been going here for 3 months now, I use to drive to Sunnyvale, but way to far. I started going here to save gas, but the price for a hair cut is a little higher then the one I went to before, I use to pay $15 with tip, but here I pay $20 with a $4 tip. Mai iis my barber, she's great. Takes her time to prefect the style you prefer. I usually get a 2 all around with 0 taper all around. I can't complain, because I leave satisfy every time. This would've been a good barber shop they give good cuts except the females make it seem like its a " coffee shop" very flirtatious.the female mai talks too damn much and flirts with every guy that walks in and tell them about her relationship. I been growing my hair for damn near a year. When I show the barber what I want an undercut with a ponytail she assures me she knows how to cut it how I want. Of course five minutes in she's already cut the top of my hair so short that it's already too late to get the haircut I wanted. Pissed me off cuz I showed her a picture and also she assured me twice she knew how to cut it the way I want to. Oh also the time before that another female barber SLICES MY EAR WITH A RAZOR. If you have short hair and always get a skin fade on the side and have $20 of cash lying around I guess come here. One lady with light brown hair was really nice when we walked in (to bad she was already busy). A man offered to cut my husbands hair, but I guess he couldn't cut his hair how he asked so he told this other lady with red ombré hair to cut it. My husband was really indecisive to the suggestions they were giving him and I guess the lady got annoyed and told him to sit down and look for a hair style he'd like online and it didn't take us long to find one. My husband went back to her and explained how he wanted it and she said she was done for the day (which I doubt) and sat in the chair. It was 5:30 and they don't close till 6.... Moral of the story, they got mad because my husband didn't want to cut his hair like how they were suggesting. I get that they can refuse service to anyone, but like if they're being rude but we weren't.. So we just stood up and left, they're rude and really unprofessional. Never going there again. read more

I've been going to this shop way back, since 2007, before it changed the ownership. Though Steve is no longer there, Mai has been always there and has trained up the new barbers on the chairs to style that she has been accustomed too. Their popularity makes the shop real busy, but thanks to the sign in sheet you can just drop in and sign your name and come back when your time cones up! Josie and the uncle with glasses are as reliable as Mai & definitely recommend them if you don't have time to wait for Mai (there's normally a list of 5 people waiting for her. I recommend coming on off hours that are in the morning or mid day.) I recommend this shop to anyone who's looking for a great barber who will take care of you for life. I don't know where I would go if they just left. And you definitely cannot forget that amazing straight razor shave they use to line you up. This review is purely based off the barber Josie. I've been going here for my haircut for about year now, going only to Victor. Today Victor wasn't in, but a woman named Josie was. I asked her to give me a undercut and to take a INCH OFF THE TOP. She finished with my undercut assuming she's was going to trim the top. Instead she puts jell in my hair and says she's finished. I politely asked her if she's going to shorten the top. She proceeded to loudly sigh and told me its too late. I asked if she can cut a little in the back if that's possible. She continued to loudly sigh indicating that she's annoyed after my request. Josie then began forcefully pushing and poke my head forward on 3 occasions out of frustration. Each time rudely snapping at me "saying stop moving your head back" while cutting the back of my hair. With this incident, I was of course upset. I paid for my haircut and left to avoid causing a scene. I've never experience such rude and disrespect given to a paying customer in my life. I wish their manager could witness how Josie treats customers. read more

I've been coming here for at least 10-15 years, but today is my last day. Steve (the owner) was awesome...best barber ever. He was professional, skilled, courteous and most importantly...took his job seriously. Unlike more than half the barbers there now. Ever since he left; this place has slowly descended into chaos. Example? Today I came in, wrote my name on their sign in sheet...sat down and waited and waited and waited some more. I'm a pretty patient person so...1 1/2 hours later I get up look at the sheet...its a total mess. Some of the names are marked off and half of them aren't, so you have no clue when to expect to be called. Then I look around and notice everyone who was there when I got there is gone, and people who got there after me are getting haircuts. A customer should not have to mind the list thats...THEIR job. Extremly unprofessional. Seems like they just call whomever they feel like. Rather then get angry, I just walked out; and am never coming back. Exactly how I wanted to spend 2 1/2 hours (half hour drive each way) of my only day off. Thanks a lot. Keep treating your customers this way and see if your business survives. Farewell Steve. It's too bad. Ronnie has given me a couple of the best haircuts I have ever had. He is always busy with customers waiting. Each haircut requires 20 to 30 minutes. Unable to wait for an hour to an hour and 15 minutes, I scheduled with him to be his first customer Saturday morning at 930. When I got there at exactly 930, he had a customer in his chair and he had a customer waiting ahead of me. Ronnie may give a great haircut, but he doesn't know how to keep his word, I will never return to his barbershop again. read more

I used to come here in high school after my friend referred me to this place. I used to get a haircut from Larry. He was not that great, but back then I didn't really care of my hair. I stopped going for a bit, and just 2 years ago I started to become a regular again every week. My go-to barber is Mai. She is so prestigious at doing tapers so if you want that fresh taper, go to her. I stopped getting tapers and started to get fades, and they come out just as good. I used to be mad picky with my haircuts, but since Mai is so used to my hair, it comes out A1 all the time. I'd advise that going to her may result in a long wait. It's no problem for me since, most of the time, I'm first in the morning. They have implemented a sign in sheet for people who come before opening, so if you come before opening, check the door to see if there is a sign in sheet! Wait times for Mai could be very long, but the wait is worth it. Other barbers can cut as well such as Josie or Victor, whom is very good with fades. All in all, Serra Barbershop will remain my go to shop for as long as I live in Milpitas. Consistency with Mai is always there, and Victor and Josie will never disappoint. read more

from a very angry boyfriend: first off, this place was a great place to go to because of tina and larry. but unfortunately tina left and larry is hit and miss at times even on the days he is supposed to be there (but when not busy he goes home early). yesterday (5/1/13) i came in because i thought larry would be working, but unfortunately he was not ... but one of the barbers said he would be there the next day. so today (5/2/13) i came in and unfortunately again, larry must have gone home early (so either the barber from the day before lied to me or larry left early for the day). so the very very big con. i am a person who is very patient, but i do have a problem when the lack of consideration affects the customer. from the moment i came in, i was led to believe that only a few were ahead of me with one of the barbers (the same barber who told me larry would be there on the present day).(4:40 pm). after the barber finished a child i believe, mai considerately suggested that a senior should take her next even though the senior was waiting for mai. so of course i did not mind because of the considerate move. so then i thought that i was only waiting for 2 more guys (the senior citizen and one other male). after the two had finished, i thought i would be up next, but one of the customers (who was there before me) changed his mind and decided to go for the barber i was waiting for since mai was busy (very very annoying but i could not do anything about it because he was there before me). so instead of mai (or any of the other fucking barbers) to refer me to the barber that was not busy, they completely ignored me and the barber who wasn't busy decided to take a customer who came way way after me. these barbers need to realize that customers come in there, to take time away from having dinner, or doing other errands. knowing the fact that i had been there 2 days straight with no haircut is just upsetting. i know i am just one customer but jezzz fucking christ, have some consideration. i know barbers like mai have her favorites and notice others who could use a little consideration, but since i am not one of them she and the other barbers just completely denied me from any little consideration. after waiting an hour and 45ish minutes (around 6:30 pm) with no haircut ... yeah as a customer you get a little frustrated. hopefully the fucking owner can use the surveillance cameras to good use to see what the fuck i"m talking about. time to go to a new barber ... thanks larry and tina. sm fucking h!!!! read more
