This place is the worst. Sign says haircuts $18 and up? But actually it's really $20. Josie gave me the most disappointed look when I handed her a $20. So I left telling her I would come back to give her more. Shouldn't have come back cuz when I told her I thought the haircuts was $18? Mai replied "it says $18 and up." When I came back both Mai and Josie were not cutting hair. Mai took it upon herself to reply to me. Then I asked "what's a $18 haircut?" Mai then replied "that's a 1 guard all around." Lol. Then I said "Binh charged me $18 last time for a haircut." And Mai replied "well he gave u a discount so he could get more customers." Both my last statement and her last statement may have been assumptions. Binh is new to me and I haven't been back in a long time. My first time back with Binh I gave him $23 and the second time $20. I used to come to this place since I was a child and I got my first haircut here from Steve. This used to easily be a 5 star joint from me when he was running things, but unfortunately it's run down a lot since then. After awhile Mai would take me on but always back burner me 2-3 customers and play stupid "They we're here before you, they were on the list" Why have a list when they aren't on it? Been going to this spot for a while, everyone is good and I've always been happy with my haircut. But today was just a bad day I guess. I got a haircut from Josie. Though the cut was good, the experience was bad. From the moment I walked in she already looked like she didn't wanna cut my hair lol. I didn't mind but damn she was rude as fck. Giving me hella attitude when I ask her nicely to do certain things. Mind you I didn't ask her to do crazy shit at all. All I asked was not to thin out my hair and just trim the top. But she was just really angry towards me like I ate her food or some shit. From then on she just rushed to finish my cut. I tipped her and apologized if I offended her in any way (idk if you consider asking nicely an offense) but she never acknowledged my apology and just took the tip. I am writing this review in regards to my boyfriend's experience. He showed the female barber a picture of the haircut he wanted (pretty simple, fade with enough hair at the top). Whoever picked up was super rude and unfriendly- super condescending on the fact that I didn't know that there was no appointments available. I did a walk-in on a Saturday afternoon after looking at some photos shown here on yelp. After being deated, I specifically said to her that I want 1 on the side and back, while keeping the top medium. I also said that most of times I don't put gel/wax, but when I do I'd put my hair up. I had very poor experience at Serra Barber. I got there early to get a cut from Josie and I was the first one there. I put the name on the sign up sheet and was expected to get cut first. Josie showed up 20mins after I got there and looked at the list and basically overlooked the list and went with a person she knew. She said, "I don't know you, I'll get you next." The other person said, "he was here first so he should go." But Josie insisted that she didn't know me and proceeded to help the gentleman after me. After waiting 45mins, I decided to leave as I did not want to put my money towards someone who didn't follow her own process and someone who was flat out rude. This place used to be a little better when they had the other girl. I'm not sure if she's still there. She was pregnant when we were still living in the area. We were around the area again and swung by. Instead of the 1 pregnant girl talking to everyone - both staff and customers.. now you have 2 women just talking to each other non stop. They talk about life, they talk about their personal lives, their dating lives, piercing their own ears, piercing other parts, their family, what their moms want from them, how they're rebellious, and they talk about the customers. Imagine nail shop staff. I know it's a sad comparison but just go with it. Nail staff just talking about you and your younger siblings and how you look and what you want. Saying things like "he doesn't care who cuts his hair so it doesn't matter who takes him and does whatever they want with his hair. He doesn't really speak up or say much at all. He'll just sit there." They take forever to cut hair and it's one thing if it looked like they were designing things or even perfecting it. BUT, one person said she messed up and had to fix it and fixing it messed up again so she just did it slower to fix it better and hopefully it wont be so noticeable. I just can't even believe we ever went here. The music was loud. TVs were on. They were trying to talk over the whole thing. I take it back. They didn't try. They did it. I've been coming here for years and always walk out with a clean fresh fade/cut. All the barbers are skilled at what they do, but my go-to is Mai who has cut my hair so often, she can do my fade and line me up with her eyes closed (but not w/ the straight blade! Lol). Josie & Victor are also highly skilled and can be trusted to cut any style you're looking for. The also have one of the best deals in the Bay Area -- other barber shops charge $30-50 for a cut, but you can get the same quality cut/fade/taper/style etc. for a lot less $$. So when they take care of you and give you a clean, fresh cut... use some of the cash you just saved and show some appreciation with a nice tip! Keep in mind, it's a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis barber shop (no appointments) so wait time can be long at times. But it's worth the wait. read more

So saw the reviews on this place for my fiance to get her haircut, and decided to stop by because they have pretty good reviews. The place is in the little plaza where there's a lot of unopened businesses. I've always seen this place but never stopped by because uhhh I myself wouldn't use the barber haha. Anyways, we get in and immediately we ask for Steve or Mai since they have such great reviews and Steve was there. There was a bit of a line but that's a good sign right? So it's my girl's turn and she sits down and we realized that on Yelp, it says they take credit, but they only do cash, so I make a run across the street to Walgreens, shop around buy some chocolate, take my sweet time, and get there and Steve is still cutting her hair! Wow! they really do take thier time. Usually youre in, and out in under 15 minutes. They used the vaccum like everyone else says and they really pay attention to detail unlike the usual Asian way of . "OH! I'll cut it this way cus' I feel like it and it looks good" I actually liked the haircut alot it was cleeean =) well here's my fiance's review: Steve's a really good barber, he interacts with you and really pays attention to details. I wasn't sure how I wanted my haircut but he showed me alot of pictures of his previous work and was really helpful. They are a mom/pop/niece shop. The funny part was that the wife was saying stuff like "is that a boy or a girl? I wonder if his hair down there looks the same as his head" haha . typical asian ladies gossip and talk so it wasn't a big deal.
